Miss my J1 Mini – I now have an Galaxy A20 and I could do everything on my J1 Mini with the same efficiency as the A20. Except taking photos of docs to upload, the camera was not up to scratch. The camera worked perfectly for normal pics. Only other issue was battery life after a couple of years use. I am writing this review because I want Samsung to Re-Release… Read more ·  1

the J1 Mini with the necessary updated features because the SIZE of the phone is SO PERFECT. It would sell like hotcakes in my gen due to size.

Good Service – I purchased my Galaxy J1 2016 last year after my previous Samsungs' battery died & I could not replace it. I have been using Samsung phones since 2000 and I intend sticking with them. this is daylight robbery having to pay for a handset - only the telcos know what phones are good for certain areas and they should not be allowed to sell us products that are not suitable without recourse....  Show details

All good – I purchased my Galaxy J1 2016 last year after my previous Samsungs' battery died & I could not replace it. I have been using Samsung phones since 2000 and I intend sticking with them. I only use my MOB for texting, taking photos and calls so have to admit it doesn't get the heavy use like most peoples' phones when accessing the internet.… Read more

Ironically, it's the first 'smart phone' I have owned & I haven't taken advantage of it's capabilities fully. I personally give the camera the 'thumbs up' & have never had a problem with clarity. As far as price point is concerned, I always have a budget for purchases & I invariably buy a earlier model where I find they offer a generous discount. It recharges quickly, looks good & is easy to use & is a good size so I'm very contented with it.

Second one I've had in 2yrs & the new one's doing the exact same thing as it's predecessor – The first one started off very well & as I'd only paid $160 (on special) it was good value for money..5 months after purchasing it began to give me problems. Battery would not last a day despite being used rarely as I'd be at work most of the day..then began the mobile data issues. Dropping out all of the time despite having plenty of credit &… Read more

good coverage in my area. After the problem getting worse & worse i decided to get another one (wasn't able to get refund as I'd lost the receipt)..No longer on special, i paid $200 for a phone that within 6 months, loses internet reception AND phone reception (again, plenty of credit & in a very good coverage area) & the Bluetooth does not work at all!

General operation – This phone has very limited USABLE memory. I am not a big user of a smartphone generally and do not have very many apps but this phone struggles to update, often telling me "not enough storage". I have a memory card also. I can access it but it will not accept some apps. If i dump photos from phone memory it also dumps from the card. There are… Read more

heaps more downsides to this phone, sadly since sniffing through the Internet my problems (and many more ) are common. I intend to formally ask Samsung to replace or credit me for a credible updated phone if not then it is goodbye Android and back to IPhone. ☺

Poor, can't wait to get rid of it!! – Phone constantly puts your calls on hold or just cuts out. Myself and my husband bought one when we arrived in Oz as a cheap option. When holding the phone to your ear it must activate a hold button, despite the screen having a lock. We then started holding the phone in our hand with the speaker on, but the phone still goes on hold mid conversation.  Show details

Perfect Phone! – This phone is neither too big nor too complicated. It is user friendly with very good display. It also has amazing sound quality. The battery is pretty good aswell. The phone itself is very responsive and fast despite being on the cheaper side. The camera quality is also good. If you want a cheap phone, this phone is worth getting.  Show details

not worth buying – purchased ( 2 ) Samsung J1 at Xmas 2016 from big w phones sat in unopened box until 5 mar 2018 that's when we started using them at first they were fine then my partners one kept going flat all the time and sometimes turns off for no reason when fully charged. mine has turned off for no reason at all as well but now mine wont turn on at all and when it does come back on only loads as far as the Samsung galaxy J1 that's it.  Show details

Worst waste of money I have ever encountered – Where does one start? Let's see! I have now had four of these J1-6 phones the first two were from coles. I bought one at the beginning of 2017 from my local Coles store at Elizabeth SA . Within the first two days I was experiencing microphone problems and speaker problems. Where there was a constant echo during calls. I took that first J1-6… Read more

back to Coles whom first tried to argue that the phone was bruised and that it had been damaged after purchase. However after producing my receipt of only two days old and a phone with absolutely no scratches or wear and tear marks on it the manager agreed to exchange it for a new one.

After only one week on this new phone I encountered the same problems again. So back to The store I went this time I insisted on a refund. Which fortunately I was given.

I have been a devoted Samsung product buyer for many years so I chose to put these two phones down to bad product handling.

Not to be defeated I then very stupidly the next day went to my local Aldi store and purchased the very same samsung J1-6 took yet another brand new one of these things Home and opened it up.

Started to straight away experience the same echoing and this time the phone was cutting out half way through calls as well. Back off to Aldi I went. Once again another replacement phone was offered and once again I took the offer.

After all how many of these things can come straight out from the factory / box and be faulty???

You guessed it !! Yet another faulty phone. This time the electronics weren't working properly at all. In fact it was completely non-functional.

I returned to Aldi the very next day.

However this time upon arrival at Aldi I discovered I had lost my receipt.

I now have not a leg to stand on and I Am one hundred and fifty dollars out of pocket. For something that it was painfully obvious was a manufacturing fault. So goodbye Samsung hello Apple iPhone I am protesting with my feet and will now whenever possible repeat my story to anyone who will listen.

I cannot wait to replace this phone – I bought my first Galaxy J1 about 7 weeks ago. At first it was great. It's small but did everything I needed it to. With my 32GB SD card in there I had all the space I needed (internal memory gets used up pretty quick), it was a breeze to set up and overall I liked it. By week 4, it was being fussy with charging. By week 5, I had done a factory… Read more

reset, and it started charging again, but would no longer connect to my computer via USB. By week 6, after trying several more factory resets, re-starting in safe mode, checking for updates - literally everything you can do as a home user - it stopped charging. It would not charge at all. It would not connect to my computer, no matter which of my half dozen USB cables I used.

I don't *need* my phone to do much, but a phone that won't charge is completely useless.

The store I bought it from were great about doing an exchange. This particular phone is, I'm told, the best within the budget I'm currently working in with the basic specs I need. So I decided to just swap it over, assuming that I was unlucky enough to have received a dud phone.

It's now week 7. My new Samsung Galaxy J1 is being fussy with charging. I will not be bothering with Samsung after this. The chances of me getting two of the same phone and both of them being faulty is ridiculously low, and being able to charge is one of those real basic needs.

Unable to make a call without powering it off and back on – This phone is so frustrating - you cannot make a call without having to power it off and then back on. If you just dial the number it will ring once or twice and then goes to call ended. Power it off and back on and it works. Very annoying and wouldn't recommend it to anyone :(  Show details

ridiculous these phones are being sold in regions where they do not work on our networks – terrible companies that are selling these willy nilly..... god for the cities only! dont buy one - telcos should be providing us with technology to use their networks. this is daylight robbery having to pay for a handset - only the telcos know what phones are good for certain areas and they should not be allowed to sell us products that are not suitable without recourse....  Show details

Cheap and small smart phone – If you're looking for something quite cheap and small, this is a good choice. Very easy to navigate. Never had any major problems. Picture quality on photos isn't great, but you have to sacrifice something if you want a neat little phone that fits easily in your pocket. I've had some memory problems which halt updates, but it could also be coz I have a lot of video and things clogging up space.  Show details

It's alright – Had this for about 2 years now. After some long uses, it tends to become laggy and apps would crash. The phone becomes slow sometimes so I would have to hard reset for it to have a decent speed then it would just slow down again after a while. (Been doing this about 5 times now) For it's pricing, it's decent if your priority is to use it for calling which is what I just use it for now.  Show details

Decent – I've have a J1 mini now for a year or so now,and its Decent phone for the price but, there are much better phones on the market. one thing i really can't stand is the camera, like if you want to take a photo of some text on a sheet of paper it will not focus and its just a big blur. It does crash sometimes but its not that bad, all you've got to do is turn it off and back on again and its good as gold.  Show details

Too slow and crashing – Had this phone for about a year and then the battery died. Replaced this and then the phone kept freezing. Took it back as under warranty and they replaced the motherboard. The touch screen is not responsive sometimes and the phone is painfully slow when browsing the net. Phone works ok.  Show details

Great – I got this during the christmas sale for my small child and it's a great phone! It looks stylish and isnt too far behind from the s-series. Although it has lower specs, it can run most games perfectly fine and is more than enough for any kid's needs. The screen is a bit small, but at its price point it's worth it.  Show details

Decent phone for a great value – I bought this phone as an early Christmas present for my mum and she loves it. She didn't need anything top of the range but just wanted a bigger screen for texting so this phone was perfect for that! Bright screen. The size is also comfortable to hold, but we do have small hands  Show details

Good for the price – This phone is perfect for a first phone or a work phone. Yes it doesn't have the best camera or memory space but that should be expected considering the price. It's has all the basic features you need in a phone. I've owned it for over 2 years and dropped it many times and it hasn't broken yet.  Show details

Great value – Good value for the specs. Easy to use for older people. Camera not the best but you get what you pay for. This is a good budget phone. There is plenty off RAM for different programs. The battery is ok if you use it normally. This is not the best phone for gaming though.  Show details

Not bad for the price – Bought two for my mom and dad. When they visit me , simple functions easy to use but if you're belong to a new generation with photos and videos than its not the phone you want as it doesn't have much functions and small ram.means slow functionality. But the oldies loved them.  Show details

Bad build Quality – Bought one a few months back, worked fine for a few weeks till the phone started having charging issues, would think it was charging when it wasn't and refuse to charge most days. Had to get a refund which was hell to do. Aside from that the phone performed fine, nice screen and decent battery.  Show details

Rubbish J1 Samsung – About 12 months ago I purchased the Samsung J1 for my husband. Just recently this has been replaced with another Samsung for my husband.
