Toyota Camry XV10 (1991-1996)

Greater than the sum of its parts – I wrote a review of a HiAce which would be quite the same for a Camry and going by those experiences I wouldnt hesitate to claim the following review is applicable to any Toyota in that it/they are very economical, efficient, reliable vehicles. The parts are readily available and cheap but dont let the word cheap fool you in terms of quality. They… Read more
are quality parts. The thing is that they are so common so that everyone knows where to get parts and arnt hard to find like some other brands. But getting back to the whole vehicle the Camrys I have had experience with were mid 90s models and for their time and age they were comfortable and handle very well. Great size both small enough outside for traffic and parking and big enough inside for cargo and passengers and I drove a lot. With the right tire pressure and weather conditions I could get just shy of 700km on a single tank. That is pushing every corner and crevice of efficiency, wind direction or none at all, temperature... like I said I drove a lot.. even the gear you are in and the rpms and throwing into neutral down hills etc. But 700km on 1 tank in a Camry is very doable. Arigato Nippon.
Excellent car, good miliage. Worked well on long distance and saved petrol – Used the car to commute in town, reaching kids to school, work, and interstate. Car was used every day. Car was serviced every 6 months. Car needed change of tyres and brakes needed replacement. Show details
Hate my car – I think this car chews fuel and the body is to large for the interior size. I would not recommend this car to any of my friends or family. Always having issues with engine Show details
Amazing economical family sedan – A very cheap second car to purchase, very cost effective on maintenance and parts. Was an easy car to service and like I said parts were very available and cheap. Being the 6 cylinder it had a good amount of grunt and was excellent towing trailers. Would definitely recommend this as a family sedan. Show details
Such a great runaround car, or first car. Safe, practical, and cheap – Yep, it's a 4 door, it's auto, and damn, it's a camry - hell, you can't even brag about it being a camry. It's the poorer cousin, the Apollo! But geez, Toyota know how to build reliability and comfort. I picked up my 1995 Holden Apollo V6 for under $2000 with rego! It has climate A/C, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, ABS, velour… Read more
trim, and 6 speaker stereo. Mine was all original, down to the hub caps and the 90's cassette deck.
Bought a $120 kenwood head unit, and now I have a damn comfy and reliable cruiser, with blue-tooth, hands-free, MP3 etc etc.
Does it handle awesomely? Of course not, it's a 4 door family car. Did it come with a tow bar so I could hitch by bike rack, and go mountain biking? Hells yeah! And the damn thing works! Everything works!
Took it to the mechanics, aside from slightly worn rear shocks (what do you expect) the car runs fantastically! Doesn't burn a drop of oil, and the motor runs fantastically. Testament to the one owner who looked after it.
This proves that if you're looking for a cheap run around, don't go buying anything remotely cool. Some idiot has certainly thrashed the crap out of it. Look for the car owned by a cardigan wearing grand dad, and it'll give you years of trouble free motoring!
Handles great on corners – I bought a toyota paseo1993 1.5 liter engine 3 years ago. Everything works which is surprising for the age of the car. Not a very fast car on a straight line but will surprise drivers with bigger car in the corners. I beaten a 600cc bike with this car once, not because of this car, but because the bike rider is an [censored word removed] I… Read more
suppose. I know that [censored word removed] anyway and I think 2 years down the track he probably could not figure out how he lost that race. The engine displacement is very similar to a toyota starlet except this one has a coupe body. This is my favorite of all the cars I had before. Cheap on parts, rego and insurance great fuel. Fast enough to get you into trouble if you drive like an idiot. You will not win on this car in a straight line. If you have this car, this vehicle shines in the corners than anywhere else. This car will train you to become a good driver. Good luck. Don't crash.
Great Car – 1996 Toyota Camry would have to be one of the most underrated cars ever made. It has a strong 2.2ltr EFI petrol engine, pushing out a bit under 100kw at 4-5000 rpm. The Pro's : Strong Engine 2.2Ltr engine is light on fuel but really punches our power when you put your foot down. All engine components are reliable. My car has done 180000 kms… Read more
and still runs on the factory alternator and starter, no problem. It isnt using much oil, and it is enjoyable to drive. Easy to self-service the engine. Cheap parts as with all japanese cars, and parts are very easy to find and cheap to purchase now. Factory stereo still working after 20 years.
The Con's : No airbags, poor safety rating according to today's standards. It doesnt handle as well as it's rivals such as the Mitsubishi magna. Backdated odometer. Not enough space for rear passengers.
Good – This is a quality built car. I have a 95 Alitse Sport V6. Reliable, quiet, easy to drive, easy to park. The power steering is light, the auto gearbox is smooth. The driver's seat is comfortable and the position is good. All the important controls are easy to reach and where they should be! For a mid size car with plenty of poke the fuel economy is… Read more
fine. There's heaps of leg room and space in the back. Brand reputation. The interior styling. The interior colour (black). The seats in the Sport are nicely shaped and support you well. The rear centre arm rest with cupholders! Very reliable. Very quiet even at 110. The V6 has masses of power for overtaking. Massive boot. Smooth 4 speed auto. The 6CD changer is nice. The styling; I think the later and earlier models are better. The lack of availability of seat covers for the Sport model seats. Why did Toyota specify blanks instead of fog lights on the series 2 Sport?? The driver's seat has electric adjustments. This becomes a problem when two people of different heights share the car. For minor adjustments the power is fine but for big adjustments it's just too slow.
