I was wondering, not about the car but the accessories. There are some many options but I've limited them down and that left me with a few. I might get Toyota Genuine, ARB or Ironman. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of them and which you would recommend for the Toyota Land Cruiser 70. Thanks Guys!

Hey there, i am 57yo and owned almost every toyota made till now and love them all. I’ve owned a 70 for 10 years now and have purchased, sometimes foolishly almost every accessory made for touring and prospecting in the desert. For the 70 series i can recommend the LRA 85ltr Aux fuel tank, the standard toyota bull and tow bars, an upgraded suspension with no more than a two inch lift together with 275/65 all terrain tires. This will all keep you legal and will have no trouble with insurance should worst happen. You should take a quality air compressor such as the twin unit from ARB & it comes in a kit should you want to use it in other situations. I have found a CB to be useful at times. Toyota brakes are terrible and the twin diaphragm brake booster and braided lines kit is invaluable for much needed stopping power however once you do this you will need to do a lane change test with an engineer for approval. You should take a shovel. Pay attention to your tire pressure’s. All othe accessory items are “nice to have” but not required unless you’re in mountainous muddy country then i would consider a winch, the Runver 13000 fits in the toyota bull bar if you’re patient. Just remember that the lighter you are the better you stop, handle and get good fuel. The standard air filter box clips stretch after about 5-6 years and the dust may make its way in so a new moonlight fabrications s/steel item i know works well to keep the dust out and has a large capacity. So unless you are into deep river crossings and extreme 4wd adventures that list will put you in good stead for most adventures. Get out there and use it! Good luck!

Thanks I will try those accessories when I get the car! Just wondering, because I am most likely to order a 2024 Land Cruiser 76 Series GXL and taking it for a few off road trips. I am totally new to 4wding and have now idea where to 4wd and how to 4wd. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or places I can visit. ❤️❤️❤️

3rd and 4th gear not engaged. Any ideas?

Never had that problem in 1.5 million kilometres and 4 Landcruisers. If everything else is ok suggest you change oil to full synthetic GL 4 or 5 as required for your model. Another possibility is clutch has worn and requires adjustment to enable it to completely disengage.

I have a 2007 vdj76. Unfortunately someone broke in so need to replace passenger door lock. Only have 1 key. It seems cheaper to replace all locks including ignition than to get a passenger lock rekeyed and hVing another main key cut. I have been advised my key has a transponding chip. I didn't think the 70series before 2010 had the transponding chip?

If anyone in the know can confirm or correct me. Thanks

I have a 2012 VDJ troop carrier that has no active codes on scanner , it cranks but won’t start . On crank the fuel rail pressure is only 14000 Kpa , google tells me it should be 300000 kpa , yes it has fuel to injector pump . The vehicle drove into my shed 3 months ago and I went to drive it yesterday and zero , battery new yesterday also , fuses good , I have a feeling this is a simple thing gone wrong any ideas

2011 78 v8 that cranks slowly but is ok with jump start , 2 new batteries I have tried , cleaned one earth/ground cable but can’t find the engine ground, any ideas ? Thx in advance

BBB B.

Question when you jump started it and it cranked over well did you put the jumper cables with both on the battery terminals or one on the battery and one one the engine to earth? If you used the engine as an earth and it cranked well then you definitely have a loose earth, assuming the battery is in good condition. If you used both terminals (battery to battery) and it cranked well your battery/ batteries are suspicious.

I did earth to engine , I looked at a spare starter motor and loom and there is 3 grounds to engine from the loom !!!

Vdj78r team out of fuel now it starts but wont run..?

Shooter

If it starts and runs for a few seconds or even drives for perhaps 30 seconds it’s a fuel starvation problem. You need to put plenty of fuel in the tank. IE. at least 20L+. There is too much air in the lines.

There is a lot of info online for b279a. Clearly in the “electrical fault of some sort” category.

I haven’t even heard of limp mode on a 79 series and I’m not convinced it exists. Certainly neither me nor any one I know has has limp mode appear on that vehicle.

Hi, the gear changes in my 2018 79 series can be a bit clunky sometimes, like the syncro is not working properly but is perfect other times - depends on revs when changing gears.

Is this normal?

Shooter
Shooter

Yes I think it’s normal. I have a 2013 dual cab same gearbox and have experienced the situation u describe. It’s a light truck gearbox not a sport car gearbox. The only times I hear a crunch r if I change too quickly or use too many revs.

Hi guys I have a 2008 79 series single cab turbo v8. My car sometimes won't start it will crank not fire up or fire up then stall within seconds. If i disconnect the battery and re connect most the time does the trick but could sometimes take hours before it fires up and runs. Sometimes when I turn the car off and key is still in the ignition in the off position the 2 efi relays start clicking and sometimes the 2 glow plug relays aswell.. but will stop when I turn the key to on.. even the key out I've also noticed when I put my foot on the brake with the ignition in off the relays start ticking away aswell.. its really annoying I've swapped relays checked battery terminals checked fuses checked ignition switch checked immobiliser sprayed contact cleaner on everything and problem is still there please any help will be much appreciated

Hi ibby. I wish I could help but have no experience with this type of problem. My mates 09 79 series has been to 4 mechanics including 2 very reputable diesel mechanics, for a problem along similar ish" lines as yours but they cant diagnose. It can be so frustrating I understand! Especially when you/we have another mate whom has a old td42 gq that hasn't missed a beat' not one problem in 15 years that he brought for $1500 in bermagui, and we said he was mad to drove 6 hours to get it. He proved us wrong. grrr, goodluck with it mate.

Would a neg 22 on back Rims(being that anything over neg 25 is I heard illegal) help some what on the 70 series track difference rather then nothing at all

Hughesie
Hughesie

It voids the warranty Toyota repack bearings every 20,000 km under the service program. Start mucking around with the track correction and have your wallet ready. I dont have a problem with different tracks but i dont live on the coast with beach driving. Hughesie
