After more than 20 years using MYOB, we've finally made the decision to move to Xero.

Frankly, MYOB feels like a product that belongs in the 1990s — or better yet, in the bin.

At $165 per month, it should be vastly better than it is. The reporting is poorly formatted, comparing historical periods is clunky, and the inability to seamlessly work across financial years in many situations is incredibly frustrating.

Progress invoicing is another major weakness. There is no intuitive, streamlined way to manage staged billing, and in truth, there seems to be no seamless way to do much of anything. Almost every task feels more complicated than it needs to be.

After two decades of putting up with the limitations, we've finally reached the point where the cost, inefficiency and frustration simply outweigh the pain of changing systems.

Here's hoping the next 20 years are a little less painful.
