About The Ordinary
The Ordinary is a brand that offers a range of skincare, haircare, body care, and makeup products. The brand centres science front and centre, and has a mission of bringing effective products to the market at a reasonable price point.
DECIEM, The Ordinary’s parent company, was founded in 2013, and was started by a team specialised in materials chemistry and biochemistry. One of DECIEM's main aims to bring transparency back into the beauty and cosmetics industry, so that consumers can know exactly what’s in their product and why it’s in there.
The Ordinary doesn’t test on animals, and its products are certified vegan by PETA.
The Ordinary skincare
The Ordinary's skincare range includes serums, cleansers, moisturisers, toners, oils, face masks, and solutions. These products target a range of skin concerns, including the signs of aging, textural irregularities, dullness, and dark circles.
Active ingredients found in some of The Ordinary’s most popular skincare products include:
- niacinamide, which minimises the appearance of enlarged pores, prevents moisture loss in the skin, and evens skin tone.
- retinol, which increases cell turnover and the production of collagen, which has the effect of smoothening and brightening the skin.
- hyaluronic acid, which helps skin retain moisture, so that it looks firm and smooth.
- salicylic acid, which reduces inflammation (making it useful for acne-prone skin) and helps the skin shed dead cells.
The Ordinary hair and body care
Body and hair care products offered by The Ordinary include body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and hair and scalp treatments (serums and oils).
The brand’s shampoo contains sulphates, an ingredient that a number of beauty brands have opted to steer clear of when formulating their products, citing that it strips away too much of the hair’s natural moisture. According to The Ordinary, however, when used in small amounts, sulphates are effective at cleansing the scalp without drying out your locks.
The Ordinary makeup
The brand sells makeup primers, concealer, and foundation. The concealer and foundations come in 36 different shades for all skin tones, from light shades to deep, dark shades. These shades are also classified by their undertones (pink, red, and neutral) so that you can find a more exact match for your skin.
I’ve been using The Ordinary Niacinamide for a few weeks and love how it controls oil, minimizes pores, and evens out my skin tone. It’s lightweight, affordable, and really effective with consistent use. Just start slow if you have sensitive skin.

Peptides 1% product is design to target fine lines and skin health. The colour is blue but it does not leave any colour after applied, is very lightweight, contains a great mix of ingredients plus probiotic complex and my favourite skin humectant Hyaluronic acid, read the instructions and do a patch test, I normally use at night time and few drops are enough.

My skin loves it – I didn't like the gel option as I didn't like the texture at first, but this cleanser is easily the best I've ever used. It is affordable, and I notice a difference in my skin almost immediately.
