Very disappointed – I bought this machine as I wanted better crema than my De Longhi coffee machine was able to give me. In the adverts, this one looked perfect and it… Read more

makes several sizes too. First couple of cups were awful….bitter and hardly any crema, just large bubbles. So I called customer service and the agent got me to do a factory reset. The first cup did look a bit better, more crema and smaller bubbles but then it went back to a very thin layer of large bubbles….not crema. I’m very disappointed because I only bought the machine for that…..now I’m stuck with a subscription of $50 a month for a year. What a waste!

Don’t do it - just walk away – Had the machine for 2 months. It worked great and I honestly thought it was money well spent. But just like the last 2 smaller pod machines, this has… Read more

proven to be a “I will stick to the Breville” scenario. The machine has developed a leak and nothing works. The white light just stays on. I can’t take it back as I won it as a prize. No receipt and no idea where it’s from. If there was a service dealer I could call without trying to sell me a new one that would be awesome.

Sadly this is now the 2nd machine, after Breville replaced the 1st under warranty, that had constantly blocked steam wand screen. Present one froze… Read more

on ‘descale now’ screen after being descaled, and could do nothing with it. Now sent off for repair, and so we wait for who knows how long. Never again would we buy Breville. The de Longhi machine lasted 10 years.

else uses it. The milk frother has stopped working despite being cleaned regularly and halfway through a second cleaning cycle, the machine stopped working altogether. The orange cleaning light just continues flashing and the others including the power buttons no longer light up so the machine can’t be used at all now. The worst part of this is the very poor customer service I have received from DeLonghi. The woman on the phone didn’t ask me questions about how I use the machine, she told me it would last based on how I looked after it. A very defensive approach. She is wrong. I told her under the law and due to the major failure, actually two major failures in such a short time and the poor reviews I’ve read, I want a full refund. I don’t want to go through this again as I have no doubt I will. Despite my repeated requests for a refund, she continued to insist the unit would be repaired and a refund was not an option. So I clearly reiterated under the law what my rights are and they finally agreed to advise me of their assessment prior to repairing it. I was told a courier would collect the unit today but they never came. DeLonghi insisted the courier had been but this is a lie. I work from home and my office looks onto the front porch where the parcel is still sitting. Don’t buy this flimsy machine! I’ve also been told the assessment process could take up to 30 days! DeLonghi’s service is not worth the trouble. They don’t care one bit. I will proceed with a full refund and then buy a Creatista by Breville. I have read these are far superior to the Delonghi units as they have steel componentry whereas DeLonghi uses plastic, the technology is more robust and the milk container self clears after each use while Delonghis can never be fully cleaned due to design flaws.

I bought the DeLonghi Nespresso Vertuo Pop Solo coffee machine during Black Friday sales, but didn’t unbox it until a few weeks later. I had to use… Read more

the guides on the Nespresso website to learn how to use it, because there are no instructions on its use included – just a safety first guide, warranty paperwork, and the cardboard with instructions to scan the QR code to learn how to use the machine. We’ve never owned a coffee machine before. Once you choose the type of machine you own on the website, it takes you through things in logical order – unboxing the machine, priming the machine, coffee selection, how to make your first coffee. It conveniently comes with a range of different types of coffees for you to try. There’s a quiz you can do to figure out which coffee will work for you based on your preferences. I was very confused however, as the video for the Vertuo Pop machine very clearly says that there is a thing called an Aeroccino at around the 1minute 5 second mark – describing it as “your best friend for making café quality coffee at home”. There wasn’t one of these in the box. I know this because I literally unboxed the machine as I watched the video!

So I rang the Nespresso help line. They advised the Aeroccino is not included with the Vertuo Pop Solo machine, it needs to be purchased separately (at $109 RRP). Do I feel gaslighted by a multinational company? Yep, sure do. Perhaps they should shoot another video that is just for the Vertuo Pop Solo.

There is also nothing that I’ve found on the website that explains what different things on the machine mean, like when the button on top is blinking red. Being gentle with the machine is also not required – if you’re gentle you won’t be able to turn it from lock/unlock.

I would have preferred to have an actual instruction manual that I can read and refer to rather than having to rewatch a video multiple times/read the video transcript. Anyway, after about 4 coffees I have finally figured out how to make a coffee properly without it being a) cold when it was supposed to be hot and b) not overflowing the mug. Even the largest mugs we own are only just big enough to hold the amount of coffee that the larger coffee pods produce – we have to tip some of the coffee out in order to fit in milk. Don’t be fooled into thinking you can’t make a latte because you don’t have the Aeroccino! There is a Swedish multinational with more vowels than consonants in its four letter name, that sells a milk frother for less that $2. Yep, $1.75 gets you a milk frother. Just chuck your milk in the microwave for 40 seconds, froth away and pour into your coffee.

It’s also not until you watch the care and maintenance video on the website that you learn about when your machine needs descaling – it will blink 3 times orange before steady white. Apparently this will need doing around the 6 to 12 month mark.

As usual, with everything these days, you can get it to be a 'smart' machine; I'm not into technology so haven't set it up to do that.
