I’ve been using the Kmart Anko 1.7L Kettle for a while now, and I’ve been genuinely surprised by how well it performs for such an inexpensive… Read more
appliance. At first glance, it presents itself with a clean, minimalist design that blends into the kitchen without trying too hard, and in day‑to‑day use it has proven to be far more capable than its price point would suggest.
In terms of functionality, it heats water quickly and with a level of quietness that I honestly didn’t expect. The noise level is low enough that I can hold a conversation nearby without feeling like I need to pause mid‑sentence. The illuminated water window is a small but thoughtful touch, making it easy to check the fill level at a glance, and the 1.7‑litre capacity is more than enough for multiple cups without feeling bulky or cumbersome.
What has impressed me most is its consistency. It has handled regular daily use without any signs of strain, and the build quality feels sturdier than many other budget kettles I’ve owned in the past. The base connection is straightforward, the handle feels secure, and the overall balance of the kettle makes it comfortable to pour even when full.
While it’s undeniably a simple appliance, it performs its core task with a kind of quiet reliability that I’ve come to appreciate. It doesn’t pretend to be a premium designer kettle, but it also doesn’t behave like a cheap throwaway item. Instead, it sits comfortably in that sweet spot where practicality, affordability, and decent build quality meet.
For anyone looking for a no‑nonsense kettle that does exactly what it promises — and does it well — the Kmart Anko 1.7L Kettle is a surprisingly solid choice. It’s an example of how a basic household item, when designed thoughtfully, can exceed expectations without exceeding the budg

Kmart 1.5L Clear Variable Temperature Kettle

Good features and great value – This kettle is replacing an old $39 Kogan 2L variable temp cordless glass LED lit kettle that was Kogan's second attempt at sending me a fully… Read more
functional kettle. Kogan was very quick to send a replacement and that last Kogan kettle did last almost 5 years until a flash and puff of smoke signalled a final boil.
On shopping around once more, it seemed most brands with similar features were around $100 and often more, but Kmart's glass offering was an exception. Compared to the previous Kogan's tiny buttons and LEDs, the temperature selector is easy to use, has a convenient lid opening switch and no beeps - the Kogan kettle beeped at every opportunity, usually twice, which became very annoying.
This Kmart kettle's LED ring only lights up blue, signalling a boil in progress. The old Kogan kettle did have a selection of LED colours to indicate various temperatures - more useful at a glance than the faint glow from a button on this kettle.
A not-so-obvious but clever feature is a plastic disc embedded in the steel lid. When the kettle has just boiled and the lid too hot to comfortably close, the plastic disc remains cool. Placing the kettle onto the base can be fiddly in some models, but this kettle settles easily onto the base. The handle is angled to be a comfortable hold even when full.
With hard water, even with a PuraTap filter, the Kogan kettle needed fortnightly cleans for calcium buildup to maintain a shiny element. After 2 months of use, this Kmart model shows no sign yet of any buildup.
One minor annoyance only solved today was a cleaning suggestion. The instructions mention removing and cleaning the steel mesh filter concealed in the spout but fail to mention how. This appeared to have a release tab awkwardly placed inside the kettle, but no amount of pressing in or pulling out allowed the filter assembly to come free. Today I tried once more and discovered the filter mesh slides out sideways leaving the plastic filter frame behind in the spout.
The 10 page instruction booklet is predominately multiple warnings about the risks involved with hot water and electricity - something that could be condensed into two lines.
Assuming this kettle isn't as failure-prone as some reviewers suggest, then it's a welcome addition to the kitchen and excellent bang-per-buck.

more. If you have a household of coffee/tea drinkers and a baby, this extra 10-15 second per boil will drive you insane.
I returned the first one as I thought it might have been just that one and like the LEDs that changed colour as the water temperature rose, but the second one did the same - eventually swapped it out for a plain old stainless steal and bingo - normal boil.
