General Tire Grabber HT6
RECOMMENDED!! I replaced the original Falken tyres on my 2024 Subaru Crosstrek with 4 x General Tire Grabber HT6 tyres in the 225/55/R18 size.. The… Read more
Falkens only lasted a low 35,000 klms, which seems to be a common experience on the for these tyres. The Falkens were quite good tyres in all conditions but just did not last.
I opted for the Grabbers when I found out that General Tire is owned by Continental Tyres, which I know from experience to be a very good brand. It was still a bit of a gamble, however, as there seem to be virtually zero reviews for them online.
The General Tire Grabber HT6 is a very satisfactory replacement for the Falkens. The Grabbers have perhaps a little more roll to them when cornering (and I do mean just a little), pointing to slightly softer sidewalls, but in terms of braking in both wet and dry, they seem equivalent to the Falkens. Put it this way, after changing to the Grabbers I have not needed to adjust my driving habits at all to adapt.
Noise levels are on a par with the Falkens, which is too say they are fairly quiet on all but the roughest surfaces.
As to how long they will last, it is too soon to tell, but I hope General Tire's advertising on these tyres is accurate so that I can get over 50,000 klm out of them, if not many more.
As an aside, the value for money, communication, punctuality, service and convenience from Mobile Tyre Shop was very good. No way am I going back to a regular tyre shop in future.
I recommend General Tire Grabber HT6 tyres and Mobile Tyre shop for their great pricing and service.
General Tire Grabber AT3
Great tyre but but don’t wear well – My Navara Black Edition came with General Grabbers 18” AT tyres. They are awesome all round tyres and very quiet on road for ATs but I’ve done 40k… Read more
and I’m 1mm off the wear indicators. I was expecting 50 - 60k but these will need to be changed very soon. I will have to do some research for my next set. I want these again for their all round performance or I put up with loud road noise with something like Coopers ATs and get twice as long out of them.

Before making the purchase, I first researched General Tire, ( Note the U.S. spelling ) and found that the company has been in existence for over a century, and are now part of the Continental A.G. Group. The Alimax’s were designed and engineered in the USA, however I am not sure where they were made. According to the General Tire website their tyres are made in the same factories that manufacture Continental branded tyres.
The tyres are advertised as having an inbuilt wear marker, which appears on the tread of the tyre when it wears down to the minimum safe limit.
The price for the set of General’s was some $400 cheaper than a replacement set of Michelin Pilot Sport 5’s. So that was a plus.
I have now driven over 8,000 kms on the General Altinax’s and the 1st thing I noticed was just how quiet they are, Road noise in almost none existent.
Wet weather grip is good, as good as any tyre made by any of the major well known brands that I have used in the past, and dry weather grip is excellent.
The only point I cannot comment on is tyre life. That will be determined over time.
Would I buy another set of the General Altima GS5 tyres? At that price? Yes. They are great “ bang for the buck.”
