A-Van Cruiseliner A/C almost completely ineffective
After 3 months of trying to obtain remedy without success from A-Van themselves and the Retail outlet we bought from, I feel obliged to warn prospective purchasers about the above van.
The Finch underbunk air conditioning unit in this brand new van will test as working, however, the van will not cool. The best I could get (and a professional air con. practitioner) is a one degree cooling in the small internal space. The Finch State representative where we live did not have any solutions either.
After discussion with the two above A/C experts, ...
Brought our Aspire 587 from Nowra had issues with service and rude salesman after purchase .Spoke to guy i brought it from at Rosehill Caravan camping show about a few issues and the bloke couldn't give two crap once he took my money .
I had awning replaced and they squeezed the lighting strip and it wouldn't work . Had dramas booking it in again so went to Penrith dealer and they were awesome fixed it on the spot .Nowra never again Penrith cant recommend highly enough .
We purchased a brand new Owen Avan in 2010. By the time it had completed approximately 4,000 km we could see the road from either side of our bed. Where the walls joined the floor there was a gap around 8 mm on both sides. The lino floor blistered in the warmer weather leaving large bumps on the floor. The shower cubicle cracked where the wall of the shower met the floor of the shower and a hole appeared on one of the shelves in the shower. The L shape divider between the bedroom area and L shape lounge pulled away from the wall. After further ...investigation we noticed screws were missing so nothing much was keeping it attached to the wall. Then to add insult to injury the overhead cupboard above the bed started pulling away from the front part of the van. Screws were missing everywhere. The van was purchased in Tasmania and we were advised by Avan to take it back there to get it repaired. What a joke, we live in South Australia. To sum it up, it was a load of rubbish, slapped together ASAP and pushed out of the factory. Never again will I recommend and Avan.
Avan Nowra appalling
Appalling from start. Ordered from a caravan show listing extras. Paid extra for colours and different packages. Not a cheap investment. We went to Avan Nowra to confirm everything twice and told no need all ok. Dramas started. No contact or updates from them. No returning calls. We constantly called in...no boss not in today etc. 7 months after order we called in. Oh your van is here didn't anyone call? Funny about that...no.
Wrong colour and 4 other defects that we seen. No help no nothing. Oh the colour was discontinued and no one notifie...
It says on the side “proudly made in Australia “ !!
Water condenses on the aluminium roof edge then down the corner spring rotting out the corner timber. The end result is the spring forcing the corner of the van apart.
Timber is untreated in any way to resist water or rot most of the screws , staples are partly or completely rusted away . The timber is made by joining little bits together too cheap to use a decent piece of timber
We love the avan concept but hate the shoddy way it has been made
Nothing much as changed. Avan's after sales service is still appalling.
The previous van to the one we have now was an Aspire 555. The van itself wasn't too bad with problems we encountered being relatively minor issues in the two to three years we owned it however everytime we did need something repaired or even to have the van serviced was a major drama. You would need to phone them a half a dozen times just to get it booked in, phone calls were not returned, emails either no response or very slow response, they would advise you only need to leave van for a couple of days and quite often it could take up to 10 d...ays on one occasion two weeks and on another occasion there were two things to fix and after they advised van was ready to pick we found only one item had been repaired and they had the van for over a week. I recall having a couple of chats with them about their after sales service and it seems they were aware it was not very good and they were working to improve in that area and this was 2014 but by the looks of things here it would seem all they are interested in is selling and after sales is not even on their radar.....still!! I did say after trading that van in i would never buy another Avan. The reason I write this is because my wife and I went to the caravan and camping Supershow Rosehill a few weeks back as we need to trade down to a lighter van for various reasons. We actually ventured into the Avan enclosure and we almost made the decision to buy another Avan but we opted to think about it once i reminded my wife about the last experience. The real shame is they have some really nice looking van's but their craftsmanship and attention to detail and quality is ordinary and as noted in just about every review on this site, and other review sites, their after sales is appalling so i am steering clear of them, pity.
Love the Motorhome, service disgusting
Too many issues about the service at AVAN Adelaide to write about, I don't have the time. The motorhome is great had a few minor warranty issues and trying to have them fixed has been one drama after another. I have reported them to ACCC and consumer affairs after being asked to sign a waiver for them to dodgy something up whilst being covered by warranty. Phoned them seven times today and left two messages without answer or reply. Would I buy another AVAN? No..only because of lack of service.
Heres a copy of the email I have sent Avan about 10 times and followed up with a few calls with no response,
My husband and I have had correspondence with you regarding our van purchased late 2016. Every trip we have taken have had major issues.
1st trip- no water- water tank leaked, pouring water out.-we had to return van for repair
2nd trip- and toilet not operational, light went in bunk side of the van- had to replace fuse. Toilet wiring incorrect.
3rd trip- no power at all- power charger insufficient voltage/amp to charge batt...eries hence flat batteries, charge replaced by avan and fitted by RVGO- they warned us batteries were not wired correctly and were cheap and we would have problems with them. No access to circuits to check power as the side panel could not be extended. RVGo had to cut hole in seat to access wiring.
Prospective Customer, should I or should I not !
My husband and I are considering purchasing the Aspire 563 within the next few weeks, I emailed the Avan's head office asking a few questions about the height of the van because we want to fit it under a carport but as yet have not had a reply, we have spoken to a salesperson at two different dealerships and been given two different answers. There seems to be a LOT of bad reviews about Avan, should we give this company a miss and start to look at another brand, has anyone got anything positive to say about Avan Caravans ! !
We recently purchased an Aspire 587-1. The journey from start to finish has been amazing. We purchased through Premier Avan in Osborne Park and their Bunbury office. The Customer Service has been sensational with everyone we have dealt with. No issues with the van to date. It's very well finished, tows well and is light interior making it lovely to be in. Thanks to the team Levi in Osborne Park, Ryan and Mark in Bunbury.
Every time I take my OWEN caravan out another piece falls off it has only done 2000 klm.
This van must be a Friday afternoon job.
The door lock has broken twice, the TV blew up on the second use.
Today I'm putting up the overhead cupboard as it fell off the wall when the screws ripped out of the wall.
Bad workmanship and poor quality control, these are just a few of the problems there are to many to list.
I will never recommend an A van or purchase another ever again.
Considering an Avan? Look elsewhere!!
If you are considering buying an RV from Avan my advice would be to go elsewhere. The local dealer may be ‘helpful and friendly’ but when the chips are down the factory in Pakenham (Melbourne) will leave you dangling when warranty issues arise. In this day and age with the power of social media and consumers being more savvy about researching the product before purchasing I would have expected after sales service to be a priority for Avan but it seems they are more interested is selling an RV than they are in maintaining a happy customer. We p...urchased from Avan ~18 months ago and while the local dealer ‘tries’ to keep us on side the blatant hypocrisy from the factory will guarantee that we do not buy from Avan again and we will certainly inform as many people as we can of the situation. Buying an TV is a big decision for many people and being treated like a fool by the factory staff is not appreciated.
Bad quality and bad services
We bought a brand new 2018 Avan Cruiser 1D and just had our first trip. The refrigerator never worked properly, not cold enough or not cold at all.
The microwave set on fire itself, we couldn't believe the the ring and glass plate inside the microwave burnt and melt. The cabinet door broke and can't close properly, the inside locker dropped off. Worse, you get no reply from Avan (NSW) and people there are hardly reachable. Really don't know what should I do.

Comedy of Errors - AVAN/Golf Savannah 637 purchased new in 2016
*To begin with we have consistently said we love the van however after sales service and warranty is abysmal. We were side swiped by a truck on the Pacific Highway, our insurer referred us to a repairer in Ballina. Repairs were authorised and the entire side was ordered mid June 2018. The side finally arrived on about 11/9/18. Now the fun begins. There was no decal, no kitchen window cut out and no checker plate (supposed to be attached during manufacture (response to this was “well it should have been”, obviously there is little or no quality ...control). Checker plate and decal sent up beginning October, wrong checker plate and misc decal, all wrong. Checker plate arrived today but no decal included. This comedy of errors is into its 6th month with no apologies from Avan to either us or the repairer. The repairer said they needed the van for 2 weeks but because Avan could not manage to despatch all the part together, the van has been in ”dry dock” for nearly 6 weeks. This is our home and we have had to find accommodation (insurance covered this) but still very inconvenient. PS there was a photo attached to the side- the new one, showing what was required eg 2 windows cut out, decal and checker plate. Again no quality control. An exercise in incompetence on the one hand and utter frustration boardering on despair for the owners and repairer.
Bad Workmanship, Customer service almost non existent to the point of totally having complaint ema
I wrote a review on my new Aspire 402, purchased from an Avan dealer south of Brisbane.
In this email I listed a PAGE of bad workmanship, faults etc, including suggestions for a number of improvements.
The email was ignored by that dealer AND head office in Packenham.
Rectification work was consequently carried out by me as this was easier and done to a better standard.
The saga included a unit ( supplied ) later, for this model for the inside of the van did not fit the profile of the van.
Several other items purchased and sent to me were...
Poor quality and design faults
This was our third caravan and the worst, so glad we have another make.
Have a look at the roof, there is no support built into the roof for the air con unit. The roof panel is precambered but you will still have a roof top pool, but don’t worry Avan use a silicon that doesn’t mould. Ask about the tolerances they manufacture to.
The window and door flyscreens WILL fail. Their soft touch flyscreen door and windows concertina along cords which in time will fray and break. You will not be able to use them and the only fix is to replace them with...
Questions & Answers
Has anyone else experienced cracking of the external cladding? We have a sportliner of which we took delivery in October 2019. We have used it twice for a total of fifteen days. There is now cracking/ tearing appearing near three of the four handles.
Take it back under Warranty.
We have barely used our van and so far two extermal compartment clips have failed, screws on domes fallen out, part of furniture fell off, two vents warped, door handle fell off, gas pipe support screw was never affixed and probably more.
Their standards are shocking.
Take it back but check other things too.
Currently looking at a 2010 Avan Liam which appears to be a very well looked after tidy van. I don't know much about a and so any feedback would be great. I've heard spare parts can be very expensive and support is poor. Thanks in advance .Larry.
Service and parts are OK from Penrith but give Nowra a wide birth .
Our van is 2018 we brought it brand new and had 12 months warranty on it .
Fun that At 17 months we noticed the joins in the roof have started to stretch and come apart in hot summer days and the side wall near seat has started to have hair line cracking upto window .
Otherwise we are happy with the Van except should have got a Queen bed not double .
Hi Larry. Don't know about the Liam but the Owen Avan which we brought brand new was rubbish. Slapped together with very little thought going into the design. After six months it was literally falling apart. The correspondence from their Melbourne office was disgusting to say the least.
Shop around, there are better manufacturers out there.
The large spring on the right front side of our 2004 Avan Cruiseliner has sprung out. The wood on the boot walls was rotten. We have fixed the damaged walls but need advice as how to pull the bar in the spring back and secure it. Please explain how to do this.
