I purchased an AEG T8DHE842B heat-pump dryer in May 2018. At the time it retailed for around $1,800 and was positioned as a premium appliance, so I expected durability and strong after-sales support. In July 2021, the dryer suffered a drum/motor failure and was repaired under warranty. In September 2025, the same fault recurred — the dryer powers… Read more

on, but the drum no longer spins, making the unit unusable.

I contacted AEG to request a repair under Australian Consumer Law, given the recurrence of a fault affecting a core function. The handling of this was disappointing: - Long wait times and inconsistent communication - Being told the issue needed “escalation”, followed by no meaningful callback - Ultimately being offered only a paid out-of-warranty service, on the basis that the manufacturer’s warranty had expired and the unit had already been repaired once

AEG refused to repair the dryer at their cost or offer any meaningful remedy. I escalated the matter externally, but was ultimately left with no resolution.

What’s most frustrating is not just the failure itself, but the lack of accountability for a recurring defect in a premium appliance. A dryer at this price point should reasonably last longer than seven years without repeated motor/drum failures, and I would not have purchased it had I known this would be the outcome.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend AEG if you value long-term reliability.

AEG 8kg Heat Pump Dryer – extremely disappointing. We purchased the matching AEG washer and dryer and have had nothing but problems with both. This review is specifically for the AEG 8000 Series Lavatherm 8kg heat pump dryer. Our first dryer developed a loud knocking noise. It was under warranty, but dealing with AEG was incredibly frustrating.… Read more

The repairer AEG chose (from Newcastle, while we’re on the Central Coast) took over two weeks to attend. He was here for less than five minutes, said parts needed to be ordered, and then left. Another three weeks passed before anything progressed.

During that visit, he pulled out large amounts of lint from around the drum, yet told us it was “fine to keep using.” Concerned about fire risk, my husband contacted AEG directly to ask if they would take responsibility should anything happen. After countless phone calls and chasing, AEG eventually agreed to replace the dryer.

The replacement dryer seemed fine at first — until two weeks after the warranty expired, when it developed the exact same knocking noise.

When I contacted AEG again, I was essentially told too bad, as it was now out of warranty. The only help offered was the phone number of the same Newcastle repairer. AEG made it clear they would have nothing further to do with the issue, despite this being a repeat fault across two machines.

For appliances at this price point, the quality and after-sales support are unacceptable. Even the repair technician commented that he fixes a lot of these and described them as overpriced Electrolux machines.

My advice to anyone considering AEG: don’t. Look at literally any other brand (and yes, that includes avoiding Electrolux as well). I hope this review saves someone else from making the same expensive mistake we did.

Bad product design and even worse technical support. Firstly you have to do some research to find the setting that actually dries clothes, out of the box the machine is set to some type of extra economy mode that simply does not dry clothes, from memory the manual doesn't tell you how to change this setting. That issue aside, the unit ran quite… Read more

well but after about 2 years condensation started building up inside our machine, despite regular cleaning and the unit being in a ventilated area, moisture got into the electrics and starts ghost touching the controls making it almost impossible to finish a cycle. Sometimes requiring opening the machine and manually drying out the visible moisture in screen area. I tried to get replacement parts but the technical support wouldn't assist with the part numbers despite me being a refrigeration mechanic, trying to force a service call. Don't buy these units, find a better quality brand that is designed better and will last longer. Don't bother with their technical support unless the unit is still under warranty.

Terrible – We bought all AEG for our new house build and so far we've had to do 4 warranty fixes. Drier is terrible - it won't work if your load is too small or too big (the range is quite specific) and it takes hours and hours. Lately it's been going until it cuts the power and clothes are still wet so we are waiting for a technician to come out. Show details

Best drier I've ever had! – I love my AEG heat pump drier, I have 4 kids and I hate hanging washing, my washing never ends, so I needed a machine that could handle a large household that will also dry duvets and waterproof protectors with ease. I use my dryer every day and on weekends it runs all day with multiple loads, it dries perfectly every time, you need to use the… Read more

correct settings and spin your clothes out as much as possible for best results, it's the first dryer I've had that doesn't ball up my bedsheets and leave them wet. Of course it takes longer than my old 80s dryer that pumps out hot air and shrinks half your clothes, it's energy efficient, dries on a lower temp, gentile, and preserves your clothes, the best part is drying woollens in the AEG with no concern of them shrinking. I was surprised so many reviews are negative but after reading through I feel most ppl do not use the machine the way it's designed to be used, they put in washing far too wet, use the wrong settings and don't clean out the filters regularly. If you don't mind longer drying times and are prepared to empty filters more regularly then heat pumps are amazing, if you are impatient and don't like maintenance, it's not for you.

Brilliant machine – Took a few loads to really work out how best to use it. Considering its an energy efficient unit, the 3 hour drying time on the ECO setting is expected (those co.plaining about times, forget that it's a high energy efficiency unit that takes longer to fo the job). Very quiet, very efficient and dries perfectly every time. The trick is to spin… Read more

love this dryer – Purchased April 2019, but wasn't sure how to use it effectively so I called customer service, the lady there was awesome, and told me exactly how to dry it the way I required, and boom, queen-size dooners, large loads dry in 2 hours. it was used every second day, it broke down in 2022, I called service, and they were prompt in coming out,… Read more

5 year warranty is a joke – I bought my dryer in April 2020 and used it on a daily basis. At the beginning the dryer worked normally and took about 2 hours to finish a cycle during summer time and 3h in winter. In the past month I noticed it could take up to 5-6 hours to dry a load and the clothes were cold and damp. The drum temperature was very low and there was not much… Read more

water collected in the water tank. I suspected there was a leak in the heat pump and called AEG to send a technician to inspect. The technician told me the filter was all blocked by the clothes fiber and needed a thorough clean. He didn’t change any parts and just reset the default dryness to maximum level. I washed the filter and vacuum cleaned the condenser as told, actually it didn’t make much difference at all. The 5 year warranty is a joke to me, I do not recommend this product to anyone. The product design has a huge flaw - there is no separate filter for the condenser and it gets dusty easily and it’s hard to clean. I’m so fed up with this dryer and bought a different brand with better design and it only takes 1.5 hour to finish a cycle.

Do Not Buy AEG Washer, Heat pump dryer…Buy LG or Miele instead! – As with other comments here, the drying cycle takes hours, usually does not fully dry your clothes, and frankly not worth the time or the effort. However, after infrequent use for just over 6 years, the service tech advised that one of the mother boards has broken, but both need to be replaced at a cost above $800. I don't understand all the fuss. Great machine, and amazing warranty coverage – I was surprised to read so many people have issues with this dryer so want to help balance out the feedback, as the feedback on the AEG website is 4.5+ for this machine. Build quality is excellent, interface is excellent, and its whisper quiet. It dries like any other heat pump dryer where items feel slightly damp, but they are good to go. … Read more

Maintenance on a heat pump dryer is also a little more demanding. The lint filter needs to be cleared every time, and I clear the condenser at least once a month also. That way I know it is running optimally. I had a Chinese made 'budget' heat pump dryer previous to the AEG and although the performance was OK, the build quality, noise, materials and general experience is much, much better on the AEG.

We had a failure whilst the unit was within warranty and the AEG team was courteous and easy. I called in the afternoon, and a tech came out the next day. All good.

There would be thousands of this model around the world and I would still say they are worth the investment and would recommend it to friends and family.

More AEG Rubbush – Again - massively oversold as part of a washer dryer combo - clearly the sale person at Good shuts was getting some sort of bonus commission. Delivered and installed by AEG - the doors both open the same side - ridiculous - 3hrs for a drying cycle is just plain stupid - will never buy again - should have bought the Bosch again. A dryer that does not dry – I replaced a 22 year old Miele dryer which had performed brilliantly with an AEG series 8000 about 10 months ago and am extremely disappointed. AEG 8000 Lavertherm T8DHC862B - A Total waste of money – I purchased both your AEG 10kg Washer and Dryers when we recently built our dream home 12 months ago, and I have to say the Dryer is the worst appliance I have ever owned. Of two minds – I purchased the 8000 series in both the washer (LF8C9412A) & dryer (T8DHC862B) from Domayne this year. Having used both products almost on a daily basis, I must admit I'm of two minds on whether to keep it or replace it with my second choice, Miele. ISSUE #1: I've noticed on the first three washes that the wool setting tends to leave streaks of… Read more

laundry powder residue on the garments (but can be brushed off when garment dries). Despite having placed half the amount next few washes, and selected extra rinse, residue was still slightly present. I doubt this would be an issue with a liquid detergent. I do not believe I should have to replace my favourite laundry detergent (Ariel) to suit the washer. ISSUE #2: my laundry is very small that my dryer is placed on top of the washer, separated by a stacker. When I leave the laundry door slightly ajar, I find condensation on the laundry window. Highly likely due to environmental factors, and not product related. We have experienced below 0 temperatures quite a few times this winter, so Issue 2 could be preventable - I could just leave the door opened. In summary, while I would have expected that the products perform better for the steep price tag of $4598, I will give it a few more months' use before my final verdict. Fingers crossed, the products will gradually prove me wrong :)

After explaining I am not, he said the customer service team sent out wrong details. Now, customer service (or lack of) are rude. They send emails and don’t reply back when you ask questions. You’re on hold for 30 minutes plus (can attach call logs if needed) and when they do answer are downright rude. Over AEG. I am actually leaving the washer (which is fine, 10kg) and broken dryer on my nature strip saying ‘free to take’ and going to a proper reliable brand. This cannot be further from the truth, doing laundry is nothing but stressful. Forget getting bed linen dry, it can't even handle one duvet cover. The only thing it is good for is towels but even then it takes hours and hours so forget doing more than one load a day. The perfect partner to my washing machine – Years ago after having a really bad experience with another brand, I had purchased a matching pair of AEG products, a front loader washing machine and condenser dryer. batting an eyelid AEG replaced it with this model. I was one of the first in the country to get this unit and whilst I was upset that it no longer “matched” my washer (they sit side by side and are a focal point in my laundry), I so could not care anymore, it could be bright pink and I would still love it! I have never shrunk anything in this device, there are no small socks for little people that do not exist in this house, no knicker wedgies and no ankle floggers! It gets used constantly and it whirs away next to the washing machine as they churn out dry clean clothes simultaneously (yes I love my washer equally - I only wish she was bigger and I could stuff more in for each load). The high energy star rating means that I can use it whenever I want and as many times as I want without affecting my power bills. I do use my washing line in the warmer months but clothes just feel so soft and cuddly when they come out of the dryer so I prefer to use this.

Pros: • cheap to run due to high 8 star energy rating • clothes are well taken care of, nothing has ever been shrunk • suitable for nearly every fabric (even silk or wool) • easy to use instruction manual • easy on the eye - looks good in the laundry

Cons: • the odd damp patch when drying sheets (I combat this by putting the items back in on manual time drying for 30-40 mins)

Yep that’s it for the cons. Some my say that it is a bit on the expensive side but I am a true believer in you get what you pay for and the quality of this machine and the customer service that AEG provided are most definitely worth it.

If either my washer or dryer were to check out of this world I would not be hesitant in replacing them with other AEG products.
