There is no clear way to check my hospital cover on the website—nothing seems to work. I’ve tried multiple times over the past couple of weeks, but I haven’t received any response. Messaging, calling, and emailing have all been unsuccessful. I’ve been paying for this insurance for 3 years, and this is the first time I’ve actually needed it. Refund on over $4000 was less than I pay them a fortnight! – AHM is a disgusting SCAM. Had eye surgery costing over $4000, AHM paid me less than I pay them a fortnight, what's the point?. AHM is supposed to only have you pay the hospital excess once in 12 months, but it is based on the anniversary of when you took out your policy, which is only really known to AHM. excess, my anniversary was in April, I had another surgery in November, at admissions boom AHM made me pay the excess again within 12 months.

When I raised these issues with AHM I was met with excuses, the lady even laughed at me!. I raised a complaint and their "Customer Advocate" [Name Removed] (no surname) sent me a generic email full of excuses blaming the government, the doctor, me! for not calling every surgeon in the country to see who would do my highly specialised procedure for $600?. AHM took absolutely no responsibility for their GREED provided no return phone number or email. When I responded I got an email telling me AHM doesn't reply to emails, completely impersonal.

If you call AHM and ask them which surgeons will do a procedure under the no-GAP or within the thresholds of AHM they will tell you they can't give you medical advice. It's not medical advice, its member advice. AHM puts the onus on you and finds any excuse not to provide a refund

With AHM you have worse odds than going to a casino, the house always wins!.

operation was performed by a dental surgeon, not a 'medical practitioner'. I asked for an example of a medical practitioner that would remove wisdom teeth and the only example they could provide was a plastic surgeon; however, my hospital cover clearly states that it does not cover 'Plastic and reconstructive surgery' even if 'medically necessary'. In the end, I managed to get approx. 20% of the surgeon's bill covered by claiming the surgery as normal teeth extractions. I could have done this without the expensive hospital cover upgrade recommended to me by ahm agents. I tried to lodge feedback to ahm about the confusing and seemingly conflicting information in the basic hospital cover; however, they don't really seem to have a complaints system. I tried calling to leave feedback but any agent I speak to wants to argue with me that the policy is very clear. After this experience I plan to cancel my ahm private insurance; however, I wanted to leave feedback...or maybe just a warning...that ahm hospital cover is expensive and seemingly redundant when it comes to dental work done in a hospital.

Called the 1300 number and after going though some lengthy identity process, I am now told I can go online and seek help (tried that, it was bloody useless) so now I am on hold and the expected time waiting is 30 mins!!!!

Even tried to check my cover and excesses but they require procedure codes and when it is happening.

Bloody useless.

checking. Tried to call them and takes so long to speak to someone that I gave up and used their online chat. Again, it takes so long to connect to "an agent" and when I finally get to speak to one, the person takes so long to respond to each message telling that "this is not a livechat". When I finally got fed up and wanted to speak to complaints team, they kept refusing saying that no customer can talk to them direct. I had to push multiple times before finally being told that somebody in complaints will contact. However, they didn't even mention when or how long this will take and I'm still waiting!

 Follow-up  · Received a call from AHM complains area. Although they ultimately couldn’t do much with my complain, they did compensate me accordingly. Its good to see a health insurer that is willing to do that, so my view of AHM is more positive now.

a Silver Plus Core coverage with far more benefits for a less weekly cost. That raised concerns for me about how loyal ahm members were being looked after and whether the group is prioritising profit over member value.

I raised a formal complaint and received a polite response, but ultimately no goodwill or acknowledgment of the value gap. So I chose not to stay within the ahm–Medibank group and instead switched to another fund, who offered better coverage and far higher returns on claims at a very competitive price.

Posting this simply to encourage others: review your cover regularly, even if you’ve been with your fund for years. Loyalty doesn’t always mean you’re getting the best value, and sometimes the differences between products inside the same corporate group can be much larger than people realise.

Hope this helps someone else before they spend years overpaying as I did.

‘fine print’ as I believed I was being placed in a comparable policy as I had with AHM.

Early 2025 I required a full shoulder replacement and it was then I noticed that my plan was for ‘shoulder reconstruction’ not ‘shoulder replacement’. I’m m not a medical professional but apparently there’s a difference. I immediately contacted HCF and raised my plan. However, because it was a pre existing condition I was required to wait the 12-month waiting period despite my previous length of membership. My injury was severe and required immediate surgery but would not be able to be performed until March 2026.

I contacted AHM and spoke to Melody from the Customer Team and explained my situation and informed her I was changing back to AHM immediately as they would honour all waiting periods imposed by HCF. Melody could not have been more helpful and I asked her if it was possible, that due to my previous loyalty to AHM, the waiting period might be waived. She informed me she would try and speak to senior officers to see what could be done. She kept me up to date with our new policy and several days later informed that that due to my previous loyalty they would, on this occasion only, waive the 12 month waiting period so I was clear to have my shoulder surgery.

I was completely relieved, as to pay for the operation would have been well in excess of $40,000. In short, there was a reason I was with AHM for such a lengthy period and that’s because they were there when I needed them and I had never had any problems. I’ve also learnt, beware of 3rd party involvements if you are transferring health funds.

have gone above and beyond where I would assume most competitors would not.

My surgery date was pushed forward and I didn’t realise the new date was not covered due to my waiting period not ending for another couple of weeks. I found out I was not covered the day before my surgery and called AHM in a panic. I spent some time on the phone with them as they tried to find a solution for me. They decided to give me an exemption due to being close to the end of my waiting period and provide cover for my surgery. They did not have to do this for me, there was no benefit for them and I’m so grateful as postponing would have been a nightmare. Overall a great experience.

I am with AHM from 2018. I never had any dispute with them. They were extra helpful during Covid and continued to maintain their trust and care. I called Laura to upgrade my policy and she showed lots of patience to explain the policy and also asked me for any issues that needs to be addressed.
