The sentiment for ahm Health Insurance is highly polarised. While many members praise the exceptional, empathetic, and knowledgeable support provided by individual staff members during phone consultations, a significant segment of users reports extreme frustration with accessibility. Recurring themes include excessive wait times on hold and a digital interface that frequently fails to meet user needs.

ahm is a strong choice for those who value personalised, high-quality customer service once they actually get through to a representative. However, prospective members should be prepared for significant hurdles in reaching support via phone and potentially low reimbursement rates for certain extras.
From the very beginning, Hannah was kind, patient, and genuinely invested in helping me. What stood out the most was that if she wasn’t 100% certain about something, she didn’t just give me a quick answer or brush me off. Instead, she took the time to investigate, sought clarification, and made sure she gave me the correct information. That level… Read more · 1
of care and professionalism is so rare and made such a huge difference to me.
She is an absolute credit to AHM. I would give her 10 stars if I could, but since I can’t, she gets a very well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you so much, Hannah, you truly made such a positive difference, and I’ll never forget how much you helped me.
iSelect determined that ahm Health Insurance offered a more affordable option than my current insurer, Teachers Health. When the iSelect agent requested my personal information, including bank account details, I explained to him that I had not yet decided to sign up with ahm, as I needed time to consider his offer. The agent replied that, by… Read more
providing this information, I was not committing to ahm, and that I had a cooling off period of ten days. Reluctantly, I provided the rest of the information that was requested. At the end of the conversation, I explicitly requested that neither iSelect nor ahm should not contact Teachers Health until after I had confirmed the switch – if, indeed, I did decide to switch health funds. The agent agreed that no such communication would take place until the appropriate time. Subsequently, I decided to stay with Teachers Health. On the next business day, I phoned ahm to invoke the cooling-off period, and the ahm agent cancelled the policy. Later that day, a representative from Teachers Health contacted me to let me know that she knew that I had considered switching to ahm, and that she would happily assist me in making my decision. How did Teachers Health know that I had contacted iSelect? The only possible explanations for this disclosure are that either: 1. iSelect blatantly disregarded my request to refrain from informing Teachers Health that I was considering changing health funds, or: 2. iSelect did not communicate my request to ahm, and ahm informed Teachers Health, without my consent, that I was considering changing health funds.
It goes without saying that I now deeply regret having disclosed my personal details to iSelect and ahm. What other third parties are now privy to this information? In future, I will undertake my own research rather than entrust my personal details to iSelect – a company that is clearly focused more on the commission that it generates from its referrals than on safeguarding the privacy of its clients. Needless to say, ahm, an incompetent and untrustworthy organisation, and with a Product Review rating of just 3.3 stars, is also off my radar.
I emailed both of these companies to express my concerns. After one week, there has been no reply to my emails, but I did receive a lovely welcome letter and membership card from ahm in today’s mail! Inept and bungling are two words that come to mind!

I switched to AHM through compare club. They assured me it would be a great fit for my family after going through a range of questions. It all sounded great, it had no limit for general dental and had a good limit ($1000) for periodontal like our family needed. In reality though it pays almost nothing towards each visit aside from dental check ups… Read more
and glasses. My daughter had a cap put on her tooth today and it paid a whole %16 of the bill. My husband went to the periodontist last week and it was also such a low percentage of the bill paid. Our previous cover with nib had been percentage based that we got 70% of the bills back for extras. The only reason I changed was that I ‘upgraded’ our extras and it rolled over to a new policy that removed our no limit for preventative dental without informing me…
Overall I’m kinda sick of health insurance - if I put away the ridiculous amount I spend on this every week I could easy pay 100% of these bills…
No replies to email. I requested my premiums be paused while I am overseas. Sent the email on the 3/06 it’s now the 9/06 and I’ve been charged my premiums again. Not good enough. I will change providers when I return home. I only just joined 1 month ago. Horrendous start. Show details

Tania, Customer First was quite helpful when there was an issue between AHM and Teachers Health in deciding where the claim should go. Tania helped me in sorting it out, though the amount is lesser than the other. I am with AHM for the last 30 years in Top Cover. Show details · 1
Follow-up · Absolutely disappointing. No one attends to the phone calls.

cover, excess, etc but cannot do it on line.
Called the 1300 number and after going though some lengthy identity process, I am now told I can go online and seek help (tried that, it was bloody useless) so now I am on hold and the expected time waiting is 30 mins!!!!
Even tried to check my cover and excesses but they require procedure codes and when it is happening.
Bloody useless.
Follow-up · It has been over a month now and my partner has had cause to seek a claim due to a smoke inhalation incident at her work but AHM are proclaiming it was a pre existing ailment. checking. Tried to call them and takes so long to speak to someone that I gave up and used their online chat. Again, it takes so long to connect to "an agent" and when I finally get to speak to one, the person takes so long to respond to each message telling that "this is not a livechat". When I finally got fed up and wanted to speak to complaints team, they kept refusing saying that no customer can talk to them direct. I had to push multiple times before finally being told that somebody in complaints will contact. However, they didn't even mention when or how long this will take and I'm still waiting!
Follow-up · Received a call from AHM complains area. Although they ultimately couldn’t do much with my complain, they did compensate me accordingly. Its good to see a health insurer that is willing to do that, so my view of AHM is more positive now.

My wife and I would like to document the exemplary customer service received today from Ahm Health customer service officer Reene. established an immediate repour with my wife and myself. In all our questions and other dealings with Reene, she displayed an outstanding customer service skill set, was professional, friendly, show empathy to us with our inquiries, and was extremely patience particularly with my wife who has poor hearing. Our interaction with Reene, regarding our multiple in queries was always explained by her in a clear and concise fashion so that we were very easily able, to understand. Before Renne gave us the final information relating to our inquiries, she tripled checked to ensure that we received all the correct and latest information. She went far above and beyond her customer service role.
We believe that Reene is a great credit not only to herself, but she is also an extremely valuable asset to Ahm Health, and they are fortunate to have such a marvelous employee.
Although we have passed on our thoughts to her supervisor Sarah, we believe that Reene should be recognized and highly rewarded by Ahm for her fantastic work ethic.
Reene a job well done, thank you very much and keep up your genuine friendly customer approach when dealing with future Ahm customers. all the best, Paul and Leonie W
I had been with ahm for a long time on their Lite Flexi Bronze Plus policy, paying around $81 per week for hospital and extras. Recently I reviewed my cover and discovered that benefits were far lower than what other funds offer for lower premiums. What surprised me even more was that Medibank and ahm belong to the same group, yet Medibank offers… Read more
a Silver Plus Core coverage with far more benefits for a less weekly cost. That raised concerns for me about how loyal ahm members were being looked after and whether the group is prioritising profit over member value.
I raised a formal complaint and received a polite response, but ultimately no goodwill or acknowledgment of the value gap. So I chose not to stay within the ahm–Medibank group and instead switched to another fund, who offered better coverage and far higher returns on claims at a very competitive price.
Posting this simply to encourage others: review your cover regularly, even if you’ve been with your fund for years. Loyalty doesn’t always mean you’re getting the best value, and sometimes the differences between products inside the same corporate group can be much larger than people realise.
Hope this helps someone else before they spend years overpaying as I did.

In late 2022 I had been with AHM for in excess of 35 years, when I made a change via iSelect to see if there was anything better on the market as the media always suggests. I wanted a ‘like for like’ basis plan as I had been on the top tier of AHM. HCF was suggested and it was a lower monthly fee of about $50-60. Didn’t completely check the… Read more · 1
‘fine print’ as I believed I was being placed in a comparable policy as I had with AHM.
Early 2025 I required a full shoulder replacement and it was then I noticed that my plan was for ‘shoulder reconstruction’ not ‘shoulder replacement’. I’m m not a medical professional but apparently there’s a difference. I immediately contacted HCF and raised my plan. However, because it was a pre existing condition I was required to wait the 12-month waiting period despite my previous length of membership. My injury was severe and required immediate surgery but would not be able to be performed until March 2026.
I contacted AHM and spoke to Melody from the Customer Team and explained my situation and informed her I was changing back to AHM immediately as they would honour all waiting periods imposed by HCF. Melody could not have been more helpful and I asked her if it was possible, that due to my previous loyalty to AHM, the waiting period might be waived. She informed me she would try and speak to senior officers to see what could be done. She kept me up to date with our new policy and several days later informed that that due to my previous loyalty they would, on this occasion only, waive the 12 month waiting period so I was clear to have my shoulder surgery.
I was completely relieved, as to pay for the operation would have been well in excess of $40,000. In short, there was a reason I was with AHM for such a lengthy period and that’s because they were there when I needed them and I had never had any problems. I’ve also learnt, beware of 3rd party involvements if you are transferring health funds.

Health Insurance is a necessity. We have been with AHM for many years & I have been hospitalized on nine occasions (heart/urinary). Wrost health insurance ever, I do not recommend it at all! I had to do a blood test, I've checked my cover and also ask the support team about the refund and they have confirmed that they will cover 85% of the MBS Fee for this exame. I had to pay the blood test in full because there is no AHM Direct billing blood labs and after I sent the Itemized Invoice they repplied saying that this type of service is not covered under your ahm OSHC policy. I mostly like ahm, the app is easy to use, claims are easy and quick to come through, and the staff are pretty lovely when you speak to them. counsellors because mine wasn’t registered with ahm, and ahm were pretty good in dealing with that issue (Amazing even), but now my daughter sees a provisional psychologist, the only option through her school, but provisional psychologists are not recognised by ahm and therefore I cannot claim benefits.. it’s pretty discouraging when trying to care for our own and kids mental health.
Do not use this insurer! I have been a customer for 12 years and have been treated like crap by their customer service, be ready for consistent 1 hour wait times on the phone as it seems they only have 3 people at the desks to save money and not to mention the $600 they had taken from my account without warning, also turns out I’m paying $1100 per… Read more

There is no clear way to check my hospital cover on the website—nothing seems to work. I’ve tried multiple times over the past couple of weeks, but I haven’t received any response. Messaging, calling, and emailing have all been unsuccessful. I’ve been paying for this insurance for 3 years, and this is the first time I’ve actually needed it.
