Found a lovely person to look after my Health Cover. What a relief.
I have been in a health fund all my life. My Late Father and my Late Mother were all with HCF. For over 60 years which counts for nothing. Over the last 15 years with HCF, I was given wrong information, and one person in particular in the Melbourne call centre who told me to keep checking my email all afternoon, that he would correct my membership. That did not occur and was done on purpose. He caused me great distress checking my email account which was never going to come to me. I switched to HBF, well I went from bad to worse. I have now tra...nsferred to West Fund, and would like to thank the person named Jodie, who performed every one of her promises to me in my membership, call back when stated, and establish my membership transfer with honesty. She works in the Penrith office of West Fund, thank you Jodie for being honest and and proficient in your work.
Today I spoke to a customer service provider about my rebate and changing my payment. She was fantastic! She was quick and easy to talk to as well as reassuring and supportive by giving me advice on what I can do. I don't think I have ever spoken to a customer service representative and felt better after the experience, until today! I can't comment on anything else as I am only new to health insurance but Westfund have a great customer service representative working for them.

My partner and I decided to change our health insurance today and I was lucky enough to be put through to a Westfund employee called Daniel. Not only did he provide me with all the knowledge and information I was looking for, he gave me the best options for me and my partner and made the phone experience for a me a great one. I am looking forward to our future with the Westfund health insurance now thanks to Daniels great service and helpful advise!!!
Used to be good and now - buyer beware!
Used to be good but such a shame they've brought in new measures and BUYER BEWARE! The fund has really gone downhill with sudden money grabbing measures like stopping claims on things previously covered and sneakily removing cover and burying it all in fine print (no more insulin pumps and day surgery excesses waived no more). After cancelling my policy for a better value cover they made it really difficult and then deducted $485 from my account illegally after cancellation. No reason - just took the money which wiped out our account and no ide...a what for. I now await a refund at their leisure. It could take up to 5 days they say. Very long wait times now, poor quality control, inadequate communication and they feel quite comfortable overdrawing my account with a completely illegal transaction and leaving us penniless for the week. Ooopsy... we'll get that $485 back to you when we can. As a single parent this is a horrible and scary situation to be in. STEER CLEAR OF WESTFUND. They don't care anymore. Been with them for years - they used to care but look out for more reviews like this with their new business model. They aren't the fund they were just 6 months ago so disregard old reviews!
Westfund is a great health insurance company
I have always found Westfund staff to be wonderful and so helpful, they make everything so easy and any claims made are dealt with very quickly and efficiently. However the company have now removed the no excess for day surgery and it puts them in comparison with any other health fund. I am to have surgery soon and it is day surgery, I not only have a $3000 gap but a real kick in the guts because I have a $500 excess I am so disappointed about the changes I will be looking to change companies depending on comparisons, the no excess was a huge ...factor in joining Westfund. Surely to go from no excess to $500 in one jump is excessive, health cover for pensioners is becoming a declining luxury especially when your healthy and haven't had to use the fund very much at all.

The staff have always been extremely helpful and advise you on the "best" way forward for you and your benefits for your type of health needs, not pushing the most expensive BUT the most appropriate!
Excellent Service still with Local Office in Wollongong
I switched to Westfund years ago after having been a member of AHM for over 40 years. AHM closed "local Office" having no "face to face" contact having to do things "online" this is no good to older people. Further AHM is "Corporate Business" (part of Medibank Private) and only interested in Profits. Westfund is owned by members, Staff very helpful in local office. further the coverage I get is more competitive in price and better "money for value", as well as excellent coverage in both Hospital and Doctors expenses.
Wonderful staff, very courteous and professional. Great experience all queries handled efficiently and timely. Cannot fault the organisation. Wish I had known about the company many years ago so I could have joined then.
Unauthorised cancellation of my previous health fund
My extras plan is with Bupa. I had initially signed up with Westfund on their extras plan on 6/5, but had decided to cancel the next day 7/5 and remain with Bupa. When I called up to cancel my plan with Westfund, I specifically asked them do not to put through a cancellation request with Bupa as I had decided to stay with Bupa. I also called to check with Bupa afterwards on 7/5 to make sure my extras plan with Bupa is still current.
On 20/5 however, Bupa notified me Westfund has requested cancellation of my extras plan with Bupa. The cancella...tion was not authorised. This has caused a great deal of stress and many hours of my time on the phone with Bupa to get it fixed. Had I not made a call with Bupa on 7/5 to double check, the outcome with Bupa would be detrimental. Update: 2/6 Westfund did took their time to investigate this, and was transparent to share and explain details of what has happened compare to Bupa. If Westfund's version of event was true (and it appears to be based on shared screenshots/document from Westfund's investigation), then it appears Bupa may have implied blame on Westfund for this incident at the start. For this reason, I've revised this review to reflect. Westfund Advantage Pro Extras plan on dental appears to be almost twice as better compare to my Bupa's Your Choice Extras 60 without limiting to my choice of dentist and that was the initial reason I moved to Westfund. Unfortunately when I read the plan's fine print, their acupuncture cover is too inferior ($500/policy) and restrictive to their choice of providers only. Hence I decided to stay with Bupa (for now).
Best private health insurance in Australia
Westfund's premiums are lower than many other health insurers and their payments for treatment are always generous. The staff are unfailingly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Claims are settled quickly. We wouldn't be without Westfund, especially for dental and optical services.
Westfund staff have been unfailingly supportive through a confusing changeover of policy. Every person we have dealt with has been patient, reassuring, helpful and considerate. Your staff are shining stars!
Compare the quality of service not just the price
I had been approached by an independent company to compare my fund (Westfund) to the others. To fo this I needed to know what my fund was called. I rang and spoke to a lovely lady who was so helpful, friendly, professional and knowledgeable that it made me realise that not all funds are the same.
I won't be switching funds.
It is wonderful to talk to a real person, based in Australia. Kirsten was friendly and knowledgeable and assisted me with multiple queries very efficiently. I love being with a NFP for my private medical insurance.
Could not ask more from a Health Fund!
I have now been a member of Westfund for many years and not once have I had reason to complain. My wife and I had multiple surgeries in the past 18 months and everything was taken care of by Westfund quietly and efficiently leaving us with just the worry of getting better. Making claims and getting refunds is as easy as falling off a log and I am more than happy with Westfund and cannot recommend them highly enough.

Not sure but their head office is in NSW and I live in Queensland so I think they might.
