surgery, and in the current cost-of-living climate every dollar matters. Due to personal circumstances, I do not feel comfortable asking my mother to return the funds as it was her birthday this weekend and I was unable to fly out due to being sick. I’m not going to now ask her for money?

I was also disappointed with the response I received from your representative, who appeared to take little accountability for the error and offered no meaningful assistance or resolution.

My family has been with Westfund for approximately 15 years, however this experience has seriously impacted our confidence in the company and has led us to discuss cancelling our policy.

 Follow-up  · Everything was fixed without any troubles. Since this episode wife's surgery has gone really well and Westfund was tremendous with their service. I could not recommend them highly enough.

A couple of years ago I looked into finding cheaper health insurance. After much research I chose Westfund. The service has been brilliant and I'm happy with my cover. Why would you sign up for health insurance with any other company? Westfund are not for profit, so they are not there to make money like some of the other big funds. This means that if they have a surplus of funds, due to more members staying healthy, they actually give back to their members. This year it was to waive excess fees on day surgery. Like all insurances you need to investigate the specifics of how you are likely going to use the fund. A 4.6 star review here is great, but let's be honest, this is about money in your pocket, and talking to lovely people of the phone is meaningless if it's costing you a small fortune and returns next to nothing (as they do for me). $5000 per year in premiums, then had to cover over $3000 in out of pockets for a pretty routine surgery and am now only getting a measly $30 back on my physio. I have since contact other insurers with the exact item codes and could have saved myself over $2000 in out of pockets and been getting $60 back on my physio whilst paying about the same premium. That's kind of what you expect from your health insurer right!!!

Health insurance is a scam and Westfund is no better than any other provider. They call themselves not for profit but I guess that just means their executive take bigger pay cheques or they are so badly run their operating expenses are higher. Profit obviously doesn't go back to the members because premiums are much the same as the rest of the market and benefits paid (at least to me) is below comparable providers.

several staff being rude and condescending over the phone or email. It took escalating the case to their complaint team to finally get a manager to call and sort the whole thing in minutes.

It's worth 1 star, but I'll give +1 star for the manager, who was apologetic, seemed genuine when she said she would review the case and retrain her managers, and followed up when she said she would.

If the onboarding process is so bad, I'm worried about the process when we raise a claim.

Not recommended.

AVOID!!! BUGGY Payment System! – Got a physical letter informing me that I have a dishonoured payment on 11 Oct 2024 even though Westfund has SUCCESSFULLY deducted my bank account on 01 Oct 2024. (See picture for proof.) Even worse, according to the payment history (see picture), the dishonoured payment is meant for the membership period FROM 01/11/2024 TO 01/10/2024. In other… Read more

words, the period is from November TO October, which is BACKWARDS in time!

As if that's not wrong enough, Westfund also displays that my membership has been paid up to 01 October 2024 even though the payment history says that I have paid up to 01 November 2024.

I have now received a physical letter informing me that next month Westfund will charge me double!

UPDATE:

Turns out there's an unsuccessful payment way back 3 months ago and the system was so slow that it just detected it.

Still, the messaging that I have received is p*ss poor. The dishonoured payment notices that I received in the letter and on my online account (see picture) do not mention in which month the dishonoured payment happened. This is PAYMENT system we're talking about! Do NOT halfbutt your messaging!

We have been with Westfund for 45 years starting as a young family with five children and now as age pensioners. The fund is a not for profit health fund and have proven to be honest in honouring that. Westfund cares for the individual with caring and accurate advice when required. and app setup, which was a fantastic, high-touch experience. I enjoyed website and they have a functional, responsive email contact.unlike other funds who you cannot email! The Challenges: Access & Convenience Care Centre Proximity: A major downside is that Westfund’s own Dental and Optical Care Centres are over a two-hour drive away and road is being repaired by rms. This makes those specific features nearly impossible to use. I definitely should have checked care centre for dental and optical locations before joining ! Limited Hours: While the weekday service is top-tier, the call centre closes before 4:00 PM and is unavailable on weekends. Without a local office nearby, a Saturday/Sunday phone option (similar to HCF) would be a huge help. App Improvements: The app is a bit basic. I’d love to see more features, such as: Faster transfer certificate processing. Easier "Claim Estimates." The ability to perform cover reviews digitally without needing to call. Final Verdict I was referred by a current member and I can see why they are highly rated—the staff are truly "tops." Real service! However, if you live far from a Care Centre, you have to be prepared maybe to manage everything via the app or phone and we can't use their gap proof features for dental and optical. Also don't know if cover dangerous or sports check the pds. They paid my mum's claims without query I'm very happy to be back with a quality trustworthy health fund

Been with Westfund for over 40 years - absolutely never had one issue with the fund as far as claiming for services and believe me there has been a lot of claims. Their website is very easy to navigate and staff are very helpful, friendly and well informed. Any insurance is expensive until it is needed. We have been with Westfund for over 20 years. Unfortunatly we have needed to claim several times on major surgeries, we have never encountered any problems with claiming. I have, honestly, no doubt that without health insurance I would not be alive to write this. The public system as good as it is,… Read more ·  1

would not have found my problems in time. Unless you have the funds to pay for the medical/hospital bills yourself, insurance as expensive as it is can be a financial saviour, or in my case a life saver as well.

Excellent service and quick to pay claims . I believe Westfund had the lowest increase in comparison to other friends I've spoken too. I did a comparison with an online company and they said don't change you've got excellent cover at a great price. So that was very reassuring . I have been with them for years. I compare every year or twice a year with other funds. Their benefits are the same and their prices are better than the others. I have never dealt with anyone in person. I use the app and a digital card. I find the website and app easy to use, making a claim online is easy and quick. A excellent health fund who we have now been with for 10 years and no way will we change. My partner just had a Knee replacement and all we paid was our $500 excess. lower level of healthcare is appropriate to you. They are the only healthcare fund I have found that has staff who make payment and processing claims feel like the Health insurance actually works.
