Ferret 21" cut – I bought it in 2019 it Has been a great mower. The only thing is it could do with a second speed and a little bit more power at times. But I haven't serviced it alot and it keeps on going, starts first go every time. Never changed even a spark plug. The wheels seemed to be flimsy at first, but has not failed in any way. I live on a medium house block and have mowed at least once a fortnight for the last 5 years Show details
Catcher flap problem – Does the job for my small lawn, had to take the catcher off and use the side attachment for it. The flap that you open to attach the catcher on keeps opening up, so everything just blows up onto you. Don’t know how to fix this problem, hopefully someone on here knows. I might just fix it myself with duck tape every time I use it. I can see how it… Read more
maybe heavy for some people but I’m young so I can manage. Good feature is the key start and the cleaning hose adapter for the underside. But the catcher problem is frustrating.
Heaps of torque – Cuts well, don't know what all the complaining is about honestly. There are some design flaws in my opinion, like when you're changing direction with the self propelled function not engaged, if you're not careful you can bump it with your hip or belly. The level selector is flimsy and can jump out, but 30 seconds with a round file to make a… Read more
notch for it to sit in properly took care of that.
Electric start is a nice feature for anyone who suffers back pain.
Catcher is large and we'll designed. It fills properly unlike many on the market.
The wheels are a weak point, but easy enough to replace. It runs well, doesn't break a sweat through thick, luscious green grass and the quality of the cut is excellent.
I look after my tools and am handy enough to maintain them but so far I haven't had to worry with this machine.
electirc start not working pull start only where is start motor – electric start not going only just a click have to use pull start and cannot buy new blades any where tell me where Show details
Self-propelled failed – I have a small lawn but bought this because I love petrol lawnmowers. It is a large and very heavy mower. The self-propelled failed after a few uses. I called Scheppach as they don't want to take any complaints by email. They said it was a known issue and would send you a kit to install. After installing the kit still self propeller didn't work. Scheppach only has three service centres in NSW. Show details
Good value so far – Heavy mower. Works well. Self propelled Drive arm falls out. Show details
Dead in an hour – While it started alright, the cut level kept skipping down to the lowest level due to the intense vibrations. The vibration was bad enough that the screws keeping the front of the mower on unscrewed. Only realised this when it became so loose, the entire front end snapped off. This all happened in just one hour of mowing. Don't buy. Show details
Blows smoke out of exhaust – Blows smoke out of exhaust when on a hill mybe oil into cyl head Show details
ALDI Ferrex 224cc Self Propelled Electric Start Petrol Lawn Mower – Good Price. However heavy to manoeuvre and also heavy to push without self propel, height lever did not go low enough and also appeared flimsy. I have a medium size yard well grassed with a slight incline in the front where I used my self propel regularly. Loved the key start with battery well charged, easy to operate with easy pull start as… Read more
backup. Catcher was more than enough, even became too heavy when filled with grass. My major problem was size of machine, weight for lifting and when self propel failed became very noisy with major vibration which in turn affected the height adjustment lever as it would not stay in place. Warranty of 5 years worthless as no one in my area willing to touch it. Very impressed from Positec Australia who authorised return of machine to Aldi for full refund. Unit was bought 1/10/2021 (9mths).

Self propelled wheels – The drive spline inside the right wheel has worn down to a point the drive sprocket does not engage the wheel to move the mower forward the left side is perfect as you will see in the attachment Show details
terrible mower – mower given to me by brother (i fix mowers as a hobby business) . inintially , i refused to take it. it was the most hideous abomination of a mower i had seen to date. IT looks ridiculous. Just pushing it, it is EXTREMELY cumbersome and unwieldy. it wasnt running, so i thought to take a look. Tedious to work on. will probably end up getting it… Read more
going. Thing belongs in a museum. Or back to the void from where it began. This thing never should of seen the light of day. Absolute disgrace to manufacture and design. I have seen victa 2 stroke go for 40 years. This thing looks like it would last barely 1. DO NOT BUY!!
Ferrex Pro Mower problems – Purchased in September 2021. First problem was the height adjustment not holding its position due to very thin metal on position notch section. Finally had to tie the lever in place with electrical cable to stop it moving. Now the self-propelled drive is not working. Checked with local authorized repair outlets and was told at least 5 weeks delay to inspect and service. What do I do while I'm waiting for the repair ? John Show details
Find out how ALDI Ferrex Ninja 224cc Self Propelled Electric Start Petrol Lawn Mower (Aug 2019, Oct 2020, Sep 2021) compares to other Petrol Lawn Mowers
Know better, choose better.
Terrible – Spare Parts difficult. Wouldn't start. Twice returned to service rep. Machine too heavy. No advice re adjust self-propel cable, is a common complaint. Lowest cut too high. No fuel tap. Fuel evaporates between uses. Show details
My worst mower ever – I'm 67 and have owned a few mowers and this one is a absolute shocker. Bought this because I have a bad back and the electric start and being self propelled looked good. Before I start my rant this mower is (was) used to mow a medium sized well kept lawn. The plastics used are cheap and brittle, the supposed handle on the front broke off first use… Read more
and both tightening knobs on the handle shattered within the first 2 months. As already stated in other reviews the exit shoot continually clogged, so I had to continually switch the thing off to clear it, but then restarting it when hot was almost impossible which flattened the battery. The drive belt has come off twice, and then yesterday the engine suddenly started reving so high the whole machine vibrated so violently the side shoot cover came flying off and the catcher decided to join in on the fun shaking it's booty despite the fact it was half full. Stopping and trying again later same problem. Why I have persisted with this heap of rubbish for so long only makes me think I'm getting old and loosing it. Oh yeah and the drink holders are useless.
Value for money...but – Good value for money mower but makers were sloppy with a few basics like the height adjustment Slips out of notches when you hit a bump. Lowest notch is ridiculously low and next notch up is Slightly to high for most lawns. Self propel action needs one more speed up at least. Rather heavy to maneuver in tight spaces. Then again if you want a mower that was perfect, you would have to pay at least double price so I am overall happy with it... Show details
Great Mower – It’s a beast of a mower all good so far. Tackeled my sons yard which was overgrown and large. It ate it. Love this mower. Self drive is awesome but you don’t use it always. Self clean function is also great Show details
It is exactly what I expected and great value for money! – looks good Is well made Plenty of cutting power Starts easy Self propelled feature works well at a reasonable pace Good size catcher Hight adjustment good but if I had to suggest any improvements maybe one notch lower would be perfect Show details
Extremely disappointing – First day was perfect. Easy to start, a bit slow self-propelled, neat cut. Second day, started perfectly, great job ... until it wouldn’t self-propel. Can’t be repaired. Aldi refunded without question. Show details
Great mower – Purchased yesterday October 2020. This is a beast of a lawn mower quite heavy 40kg. So easy to start haven’t used the key start function yet but literally one pull and it started. I’m only in my 20’s so watched something I could actually get started as it’s only me and my little boy at home. I did our lawn with ease and was able to just walk with… Read more
the mower up the hill as the self propelled feature did all the hard work. I used with the catcher first which emptied out easy no banging the catcher to remove grass needed. Also tried the mulching attachment which I used for the rest of the yard and it honestly looked like I had used the catcher it. So far so good.
Awesome Specs ... not so great in practice – Original impression of the quality and inclusions was very high - especially at this price point. Assembled, oil added, fuel added, turned the key and it fired right up. Then, I mowed ... It's big and heavy ... but I knew that. There are 2 downward-facing protrusions near the rear of the chassis. These do a great job of catching on grass… Read more
runners and ripping them up. So, after mowing, the lawn is dotted with pieces of debris. (This may not be an issue with couch lawns.)
The rear suspension bar is mounted very low just inside the wheels, meaning ground clearance is just a few millimetres. This means that very slight undulations in the yard surface transform the suspension linkage into a race jack, lifting the rear wheels from the ground. With drive engaged, the wheels just spin in the air and trying to push on is difficult. (This may not be an issue if the surface it table-top flat.)
These issues occurred with the mower set on the third height setting. I imagine that would mean the lowest 2 settings are useless. And, if you use the fourth or higher settings, the issues may not be as apparent.
In summary ... it's like Ferrex designed a mower with all the latest gadgets, but forgot to test it as a mower in the real world and make the appropriate design modifications.

Great value for money – Great value for money. Engine starts first go everytime Self propelled works well. Maybe a touch slow but that's no drama. Feels well designed. Catch entrance is less prone to clogging up with wet grass. Atleast compared to my old mower. 7 year warranty is supported by a local mower store. All spare parts are available through aldi. Part Numbers supplied in hand book. Show details
