Have an Asko D5424 dishwasher, purchased October 2018. Has worked ok up till now when the timer appears to be malfunctioning. I selected Eco, it goes for about half an hour then stops and reverts back to start again. Same thing happens when I select the glasses setting. Any idea what the problem is and, more importantly, if it's economically fixable? About to ditch it as I can't find anyone to have a look at the machine.

My dishwasher use to open once the cycle had finished.. went on holidays and was turned off for 5 weeks now once the cycle finished door doesn't automatically open.

Neither of my Asko dishwashers opened at the end of the cycle. It is some years ago but I think there was a clip or button on the door that opened the dishwasher to unlock it. Have you tried phoning th Asko help line? From memory there was a clip or something in about the middle on the top of the front that opened.

All good. A screw had come out a little to stop it opening after the cycle..

Hello there we have this model It’s only a year old and during this year was barely used. Note pretty much brand new The 2 ‘wands’ or spraying arms keep getting clogged and I’m continually rewashing dirty dishes Everything is rinsed BTW Is there an effective way to keep these working as they should, they impossible to clean Many thanks !

Carolyn b.
Carolyn b.

I had an ASKO for 12 + years never had this problem. Do you scrape debris off plate with plate scraper before loading.?

To clean remove arms from dishwasher fill with water shake to remove particles causing problem. Repeat if necessary.

Aegir C.
Aegir C.

It’s because of grains, (rice ) etc. you have to rinse, just have to. My kids did this to me 10 times or so, before my sense of humour failed, now they don’t do it.

Catherine Jane T.

Absolutely we rinse but the arms are the issue as it seems almost impossible to get any tiny particles out of them.

I had the same problem. Cleaned filters, multiple times, had electrician twice. Gave it away to young friend to pull apart, in the end and bought a different brand due to bad reports of current model Askos. Mine was 12 1/2 yrs old ...second Asko I have owned. Disappointing but I had excellent use from both ASKOS .

Hi, I have a Asko D5424, apart from a few other issues as described by other people in this forum, after using it for a few months, some wash programs become not available. When i press the PROG button, these items are not selectable(the currently selected indicator does not stop at it): Daily Wash, Eco Wash, Rinse&Hold. Please help me get them back. Thank you.

Would like to have a troubleshooting sheet to try to see what is wrong before I call an agent to fix the problem... The problem is that when I turn it on it just makes a loud whirring sound. Have had it switched off until the machine is cool but tried again and still the same problem. Where (if there is a fault and the machine displays a number or letters) it is now just a red square displaying nothing. Thankyou and I hope someone can help. My rinse cycle would always be 8 minutes but just of late every time I select the rinse cycle it brings up 26 minutes in the display. What do I have to do to revert it back to the correct 8 minutes?

Moisture trapped in the display panel, start stop button not responding.

Lina Soares

Try to use the drier a few times and when completed leave the door Open it may dry the moisture up.

Blade38

Answer to resolve this has been given in my review. In summay, use a hair dryer to blow hot air at front and back of start stop button. If that works put on a clear sticky tape overthe same start stop button to prevent water/moisture from entering the gap between the button and front door.

No, it's not from overfilling. We have tried half full, liquid and tablet detergents.

I have an ASKO D5424 with f12 fault , have checked inlet water flow and removed and tested inlet water valve in the machine( opens when power applied) . Is there anything else to check easily? Thanks Keith

Quickpig

Hi, Try changing the water inlet mode from flow to timed. There appears to be an issue with the flow meter on some models. I assume Asko have included this programming function as a quick fix. external link

Remove F12 Error on ASKO D5424 1- Check that the machine is switched on. Otherwise switch on the main power switch (I/0). Wait until the LCD display lights up before the next step. 2- Within 5 seconds, press (PROG) when hearing a beep, and then press (START), and keep them pressed for 5 seconds. Three items blinking around (PROG) key, indicate that the service menu is activated. When the service menu is opened the most recent of the error messages are shown. In order to keep the last error message in the display, release (START) first, otherwise, the next step in the service menu is activated. All error messages are erased by a total reset. The service menu is closed by turning off the power to the machine. 3- Press the button (START) to navigate the menu system step by step. 4- Press the button (PROG) to scroll between settings. Press (START) to save the setting and continue to the next menu step. 5- The first menu step is (d:xx) in which xx is a number, don't change anything, and by pressing (START) going to the next menu step. 6- Press (PROG) several times and select L:0 7- Press (START) at the last step of the menu to close the service menu and save the most recent settings.

If it is not clear please refer to the above document from Quickpig on page 28

Our Asko D5424 starts a cycle but about 10-20mins into the cycle it stops and the timer reverts back to the complete cycle time. Water is left in the bottom. No error code is displayed. Filters are clean and hoses clear. It has happened all of a sudden. Dishwasher is about 5 yrs old and until now hasn't missed a beat. Can anyone help?

Stephen
Stephen

Hi Jenny. Our problems were a little different. The cycle would start (drain and fill with water) and then nothing. The timer would continue to countdown and a slight buzzing sound could be heard from the controller, the tablet would drop. Sometimes it would start again later as normal but generally not. What we found is that if we left the door ajar during the day, never closing it except for a cycle, the machine would work, sometimes for weeks. I assumed maybe moisture was getting into controller/electrics as when the door is shut all day the inside is quite damp/humid. Our timer never reverted. I am guessing when you start the cycle again the machine drains, fills and continues until you have your problem. Sorry I don't know the answer but, having had two of these, getting five years out of one seems about as good as it gets. You could try to not use the machine for a few days (let it dry right out) and see if it then works ... good luck!

Yes, this sounds like my last two Askos. We got about 3 years out of each of them. They are not built like they used to be and I would not recommend them any more. Both our machines had mother board issues.

Hello,

I've had a few problems with my ASKO dishwasher, almost from the day I purchased it. For example, the movable rails on the bottom tray kept falling over, and from time to time, the Finish tablet was not released fully from the chamber and left a sticky mess on the inside of the machine's door. Consequently, I needed to put the machine through another wash cycle. At present, my ASKO dishwasher is just over 2 years old and has suddenly stopped heating the water in the machine. So, the dishes are not washed and the Finish tablet ejects in complete shape when the door is opened. I suspect that the problem may be the thermostat. If so, what would be the cost to fix? Any thoughts on why this has happened to a $1000 plus dishwasher in such a short time?

Matt73
Matt73

Hi, The bottom tray does the same thing on ours sadly. When the wash finishes, are the dishes etc hot? If the dishes aren’t hot, then could be a thermostat or a heater like you suggest I guess. And have you tried just putting the tablet in the cutlery basket or just in the bottom of the dishwasher? If the tablet doesn’t dissolve when you put it in the cutlery basket, then the water probably isn’t hot enough.

No idea on a price to get it fixed. But get a quote before you have it repaired, and weigh that up against buying another brand. I wouldn’t spend $500 fixing an Asko when I could have a brand new Beko or similar brand new for that price.

Anthany E

Hi Matt, thanks. The dishes are definitely cold. As you say, I wanted to get an idea of cost to fix which I now know is anywhere between $150 and $700 depending on what's wrong. Hence I can decide whether to fix or replace. A new Miele is available for less than $1000 but there are other brands at much lower prices. I purchased my dishwasher from the Goodguys and they have been in touch with ASKO concerning Customer Rights protection laws. As a result, I can arrange for a visit by an ASKO technician and if there is a fault with the machine (not caused by user damage I expect) the dishwasher should be fixed free-of-charge. Fingers crossed that this will happen.

We have a brand new asko dishwasher and the last 2 washes the tablet has not dissolved properly. Can you assist as to why this might be happening? Thanks

Matt73
Matt73

Hi, Sorry but I am not really an expert on these. Our Asko does this on the odd occasion and I thought that the cause might be a large plate or tray in the lower rack that is preventing the tablet door from opening.

You could try just dropping the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher. If it still doesn’t dissolve, then the water can’t be getting hot enough.

Hope this helps.

It may be that the holes in the rotating blade(s) are blocked or partially blocked with scraps of food, seed, etc. Remove the rotating blade(s) from the machine and clean it; this will help.

how to change a drain hose on asko D5424?

Blade38
Blade38

I replaced one recently on our 8 year old machine, as follows: (1) purchase the replacement hose from ASKO melb. (2) disconnect all hoses, inlet and drain from sink and cold water system. Switch off and pull out plug. (3) pull machine out from under kitchen bench (4) remove bottom panel at back of machine (5) remove the drain hose by cutting the tab at the machine end to allow the drain hose connection to slide out. (5) fit the newdrain hose. Don't forget the rubber O ring and a bit of tap grease will not hurt. (6) refit the rear bottom cover and push back the machine under the kitchen bench. (7) reconnect the inlet and drain hoses. Plug in mains, switch on and you are ready to go.

Which model is better? The D5424 or the D5436? I have done a "compare" and read reviews.

Does the higher price of the D5436 reflect a better machine? It is hard to tell from reading the specifications. Which specification are actually useful in practice? We have 6 in the family, so does the D5424 hold more? They both say 14 place settings, but the D5424 says for 4+ people.

tropicmerc

Suggest you phone ASKO’s customer service and ask them. My experience is limited to the machine described.

David
David

Not sure what the price difference is between the 2 models nor the specifications. I do know that the D5424 does what it is supposed to do, unless the D5436 puts the dishes away as well??? We were a family of 4, now down to a family of 2. With the handy "rinse between washes" option we do a wash about every 5 days or so. Maybe with a family of 6 you would have to use it a bit more often. Hope this helps

What is the solution to stopping the tablet from dropping out and not dissolving as it did when new.

I am also confused about the compartment next to the tablet compartment?

What is that other compartment for and how to operate it...

Hi Rusty Good question! After years of using the machine I figured out a way! I put my dishwashing table on top of cutlery rack, it gives fantastic was results The tablet is also dissolved ever since i did this, so give it a try!

All the best

Hi Shannon, have you tried switching the machine off from the electricity? This may recalibrate the machine. Our machine wouldn't start! The technician found that a cockroach had got into the power board.
