Poorly manufactured & poor materials – As an honest review firstly I must declare that we do keep our bbq outside, under the vinyl cover that was purchased with the BBQ. After very limited use (probably cooked on it 6 or 8 times at most) our Beefeater Bugg is falling apart. The build quality is absolutely terrible. The powder coat finish around the hotplate edge has bubbled &… Read more
peeled, the chrome handle has bubbled & peeled, the temperature gauge screen is non visible, the locking handle prong has rusted, the thermometer heat gauge doesn't work accurately and the lid has buckled in the heat and doesn’t seal correctly.
The steel plates do cook ok, but again have surface rusts between use and we have to thoroughly clean with mild dishwashing soap hot water prior to use.
If Beefeater were serious about their their product they would replace this and fix the manufacturing & material quality issues.
Overall I give this BBQ a minus 5 stars.
Great addition to my solid fuel BBQ's – Have had a couple of Weber Q's and this is definitely an upgrade. I normally only cook in a Kamado, Weber kettle or a pellet smoker and only bought the bugg for the total fire ban days. It does what it is designed to do and with the 2 separate burners I find it a lot quicker to heat up than the Weber Q Perfect for when I reverse sear a steak. Downside is the dome thermometer is not accurate. Show details
Cooks ok, but clean-up is so fussy compared to a basic flat plate BBQ – I didnt seek out this product, I got it as a promo deal on an expensive louvered pergola. Tried it 3 times and its just not my thing. Its so fussy to clean- the lid gets greasy, food bits drop down into the well under the burners, ditto more grease and baked on residue down there. Have to remove pins to extract the fat catching pan. Otherwise,… Read more
easy to assemble the trolley (cant understand any of the gripes elsewhere about that), a year outside under a cover and it still looks brand new (In Adelaide so not too cold or wet), overall quality seems ok.
Just bought it but already love it!! – Having read some reviews I was a bit hesitant to purchase this Bugg over the Weber however I took the punt and couldn't be happier - we love it!. Looks cute, takes a fraction of the space of larger BBQs, gets hot really quicky (I run it on low most of the time as it has so much grunt for a medium BBQ) so getting a sizzle on is easy, Having two… Read more
burners is a must (You have to buy a large Weber to get this) and it's portable with a small footprint so we'll be using on the boat (anything larger than a Q is not portable). It's a dream to keep clean (porcelain hood is great compared to Weber) with a quick wipe down after cooling so shouldn't have problems with dripping down the hood. The only slight con as some have suggested is the quality of the stand where some of the screws are just into plastic so could pull out with too much weight. But if you construct it carefully and look after it (probably wouldn't wheel it too far with a heavy gas bottle attached) you should be fine. So ... Heaps of grunt, Cute, Portable, Flexible (two burners) and really easy to keep clean .... Look after it and you'll have years of happy BBQing
Works perfect for small party – Maybe it is not as fantastic as the Weber and I haven't tried the Weber myself. For a price relatively cheaper than Weber Q2000, I found this is perfect for our need. I got this on sale as the 2015 model, but the inside already is an improved version with better burner leg design for easier cleaning. Since I didn't cook big roasted beef or pork, I… Read more
didn't have that dripping issue on the lid. The two burner is a must to me, as I can use 1 burner at a time for small family meal or turn both for a party, and the high-quality heavy heating grill and plate out of the box I think much suite our needs than Weber, I can cook onion, octopus, fish on the plate and other things the grill.
I know Weber has their reputable. And I was a little bit hesitant to buy at first, but if you want some options that similar to what I have above, then seriously consider this.
Way too expensive – The colour is attracting and the outcome of food are all okay (ive tried to cook sausages, fish and beef), it’s easy to clean, however, this is much more heavier than I expected, the price is not quite reasonable as i think there’s a lot more better choices with the same price and beware of overcooking as the thing works not very well Show details
Good BBQ but with one downside – This barbecue functions very well. The grill cooks meat and fish well, and in not too much time. However there is one surprise when you buy the product. You would assume that because of its small size it would be quite portable, however it was a lot heavier than my family and I expected. Overall, it is a good BBQ, however it is not as portable as one would assume. Show details
Regret buying – Bought the Beefeater Bug from Harvey Norman less than a year ago. Have had covered in a full length bug cover located in a semi protected area. Anything chromed has badly rusted. Anything rubber has fallen off including the main cover seal and wont go back on. One gas - on / off dial not working properly. Have emailed Beefeater with photos on a… Read more
number of occasions. (Electrolux ). They just don't reply. So, in short - very bad quality unit and warranty also seems like junk too. I got burnt buying this. Wont trust buying things from Harvey Norman again. Thought that they sold quality items and had higher standards.
Too expensive for what you get – Its average BBQ but too expensive I've seen some cheaper BBQ with same quality but I just fell for looks I guess still a reliable BBQ. BeefEater is little bit expensive in comparison to others. I'm just sharing my opinion here for people who are thinking of buying new BBQ Show details
Not Up To Rivals – Got this as an alternative to the Weber that I really wanted. They were on special. I realised when I was assembling it that the quality wasn't the same. It looks good when set up and it does cook well but it doesn't really feel like its going to last all that long. The metals feel more "alloy" and are lighter weight. Also the accessories such as… Read more
wheels and the tray are a bit cheap. Its OK but if you want a Weber, get a Weber. This isn't as good.
Beefeater bug has a few bugs – Good BBQ as long as you don't move it too much , Wheels seem a bit flimsy when you try to move it especially when you have the gas bottle on the holder , Screws stripped out of the plastic legs on the lower rack not long after using it for awhile , Cooks well with lid down ,not super huge plate but big enough for small family cooking a small… Read more
meal ,
Rubber Seal eventually kept peeling off around hood is hard to put back due to the grease and oil from cooking
Rough edge was exposed after seal feel off
Temperature gauge is a good help for oven type cooking
Very good BBQ – Only bought this 3 weeks ago and have used it nearly every day since. It is a great Size, unlike those huge stainless steel monsters that fill your patio. Awesome temperature control and ease of use make this very desirable. It does lack storage but makes up for it with manuverability. Show details
BBQ not so good! :( – This BBQ burned a spot on the top, gets too hot & seems to over cooks food easily, The burner has developed a hole in it now & will require a repair after only 2 yrs of use. we regret getting this one over the Weber. Had a Weber before they are great! :( Show details

Best BBQ ever used – We store it outside and use a cover with it. Don't have problems with the corrosion some have mentioned. Consistently cooks excellently well and of course I take the credit for all of this :) Absolutely love it and keep it absolutely sparkling clean out of respect for such an awesome piece of kit! Great BBQ, Crap stand – I think the person who engineered the stand was in no way connected to how anybody in the real world actually uses a portable BBQ. Wheels stick and is a complete pain to move around. However from a small BBQ perspective I would rate this a great purchase, gets hot enough when the lid is closed and the knobs to start and choose a temperature can get in the wrong position and takes some working out to fix Otherwise steaks are great! BBQ Great, Stand is questionable – I have had this BBQ for over a year now, I have no had the massive stand issues that others have had. But lets just say its definitely no going to win any engineering awards. As long as you dont plan on moving the BBQ to often you shouldn't have to many problems. Definitely a great BBQ once you learn how to use it, basically need to cook everything on high to get a good sear. Show details
absolute rubbish wouldn't was your money – It's just over 12 months old it's undercover never been wet and only used once. The so called as rack on the bottom has rusted and the handle has blistered . I would understand if I was ocean front and it didn't have a cover on most of the time . It's very windy but that's about all . Contacted costumer service emailed them photos and got… Read more
given the number to order my own that they don't cover rust . At the price of a webber would have thought they would have used better products that could handle being an outside appliance as webber do . So unless you live a mile away from any water and want to use it inside . I would stick to webber as I should have .
BBQ is good, stand is rubbish, customer service leaves a lot to be desired – The BBQ Beefeater BUGG is good and does what you would expect it to do. However, the device is let down by the quality of the stand and that of the Beefeater customer service. We purchased both the BBQ and the stand in late 2014. During assembly of the stand we noticed one of the wheel attachments being a bit dodgy, but we thought we live with… Read more
that as we do not move it around a lot. By mid 2016 significant rust had developed at the base chromed grid that holds the stand together. We raised this with Beefeater in November 2016. A month later they eventually responded asking for more information, photos, etc., all of which we supplied in late December. We were than advised that rust is not covered by warranty and that we could buy a replacement part (~$50 delivered). Dissatisfied with that response, we followed up, but all we got was advice on how to regularly clean the thing (which we did anyway) and that "Tea staining is very common in coastal environments and this is a very fixable". Except we live 10 km inland. And it isn't mere 'tea staining' which should be evident from photos we supplied.
This is not a cheap piece of kit (at least when considering the price). One can expect better quality when shelling out this kind of money for a BBQ.
!!! Update for this review: Today my fifth (or so) contact point with Electrolux informed me that they sent me a replacement part under 'Good will'. Took them a while to get their head around the idea, but eventually came to the party. Respect.
Grouse as – Recently purchased the Bugg and it was only supposed to be for occasional use when having a few extra people over, It"s ended up being the main BBQ. The 1/2 grill 1/2 hotplate is way better than the all grill on the old BBQ. With the dual burners and controls, and along with a bit more oomf, it's a much more versatile unit. The controls do take a little getting used to when turning it off but I highly recommend it. Show details
One of the best barbecues on the market – It's an ideal BBQ half grill half plate I love my bbq and find it very easy to use and it does a great job on steaks sausages chicken you name it I would not be without it I would have no hesitation in recommending a bug BBQ very good for the price Show details
Too many annoying features – The handle (metal) gets hot when cooking witht the lid down, needing caution when grabbing. Ridiculous lighting system that is opposite rotation left to right. Little rubber stoppers to support the lid when closing fell off the first day and never to be seen again. Didn't buy stand after reading other reviews. Cooks well enough and with the… Read more
two hotplates makes cleaning relatively easy to clean.
Got a beter deal than a Webber but may have been better off paying more!
Looks good but far from good – Trolley as with all the reviews is cheap rubbish which took way too long to assemble plus a breakage of some part. Cooking quality - doesn't sear the meat well, the heat is just too low. It's a waste buying great quality meat when you just can't cook it well. You can't use the cover without taking off the side trays. Completely. This really… Read more
annoys me but if it cooked well, I probably wouldn't care so much.
Very disappointed. It is cheap and nasty!!!

Good BBQ but let down by very poor build quality, design and customer service. Avoid! – Bought my BUGG one month ago. Here is my candid review: - BBQ itself works well - hot, smokes just enough, food tastes great. HOWEVER.. - The trolley/stand (if you buy it) is a NIGHTMARE to put together. It's almost as if they deliberately tried to make it as difficult to assemble as possible. It's also very flimsy. The hook for the gas… Read more
bottle struggles to hold the gas bottle. I suspect it will snap any day now. It's all cheap plastic.
- The drip tray is tiny and extremely difficult to remove each time you need to clean it. You have to remove the 'ridiculously-hard-to-remove' lock bolt (which is done by simply yanking as hard as you possibly can).
- As mentioned above, the lock bolt, which holds the BBQ to the trolley, is extremely hard to remove and insert (yank to remove, hit with the palm of your hand to put back in).
- Here's the worst part - In just one month, I am already onto my THIRD grill plate!!! The first one cracked due to heat!! Yes, it cracked due to heat!! The second one, which Electrolux (who own Beefeater) sent me to replace it, was cracked upon arrival!!! So I've ordered another one, but have little faith in this product now. The grill plates are obviously VERY cheaply made. And without the plates, the BBQ is useless.
- Electrolux/Beefeater customer service is very generic and handled by switchboard staff who really don't care about you or the success of the product. And you'll be on hold for 10 minutes minimum when you phone. Furthermore, my follow-up email of disappointment was met with the most generic response one could possibly receive.
They have made a cheap product, and they simply don't care. It's a shame, because the BBQ component itself is good. But the plates, the trolley, the lock bolt, and the customer service you receive when the plates break - are all very poor.
I will be very likely be going back to Masters to get a refund and buy a Weber.
Overall decent unit – This is a decent unit for a relatively affordable bbq, it has plenty of heat so you can sear steaks and get nice crispy chicken skin etc and it's also very efficient on gas. I've had none of the issues reported here regarding heat control and I didn't waste my money on the stand after reading so many negative reviews all over the Web why beefeater… Read more
won't update the design is beyond me as they're loosing sales. The unit itself comes ready to use other than one optional handle which is great if you don't want to spend half a day assembling a unit.
The negatives I've experienced are the stupid drip tray with the need to remove the rod to clean it which always ends up in grease all over the table, the things a nightmare to clean, even with narrow brushes and sprays it's just a royal pain I've given up trying to keep it like new and now just use over cleaner and a combination of wire brush and narrow plastic brushes and then run the whole thing under a hot shower....it's easier to clean the bath afterwards than cleaning the BBQ outside. No doubt this will shorten it's life but I can't spend hours cleaning it as I use it 5 or more days a week in the warmer seasons. It's already down to bare metal around the top and the text as scrubbed off all over.
The other complaint I have is the ridiculous position of the gas knobs, I have to reach over flames to adjust them as they're at the back of the unit, not all of us have metres of room around our cooking areas.
Would I buy another.... Maybe, but I'd look closely at the l Webber equivalents next time to see if they're easier to clean, at least their nobs are accessible.
Please o not waste your money on this piece of rubbish – Purchased the Bugg because Beefeater are an Australian Company apparently, that was my first mistake they are produced in China. First usage and the seal around the lid came off, next time the rubber retainers on the bottom half of the lid came off. Trolley fell apart within a month, crap materials. managed to repair most of these myself, but… Read more
then ignition system fell apart, I have had less than six months use. This is a shambles of a product and should be removed from sale. Returned to retailer. This doesn't even deserve the one star that I had to give it.
So far so good – I have just read the product reviews with dismay because, as usual, I have already made the purchase. I was a little distressed at some of the negatives so decided I would put it to the test for myself. The assembly of the stand was a bit of a challenge and the instructions are not the easiest to follow, but with a little patience and twice… Read more
reading I had no problems. The packaging was good and everything seemed to fit well. I did have a problem with the solid BBQ plate not fitting, it was too big by a couple of mm, so I took it back to the retailer and they swapped it over from the model on display which mine did fit and the display one fitted mine so all good.
My main concern was the reviews about being too hot so once assembled I conducted my own test, no food involved.
I cranked it up with just the right burner on low and although it warmed up quite quickly it did not exceed 180C over a period of 2 and a half hours which should be either perfect or on the low side for most roasting applications and I still have a full burner and 75% in reserve to tweak it up if needed.
So next time I will be adding the essentials (food) but I am confident it will work out OK
12 months on and still going strong! – Maybe I was one of the lucky ones as I haven't had any of the issues other reviewers have had. I use it at least once and week and it always gets packed in when going away in the caravan. Paint is still good, temp gauge still good and as new. I have cooked everything from damper to roast to bacon and eggs. Yes it does tend to get a bit hot (as per… Read more
some other reviewers) but with a bit of experimenting I managed to get the temp I was after. I also purchased the gourmet plancha plate and it made a HUGH difference in cooking fish and steaks and the like. There are some things I would suggest in an upgrade, I would move the knobs from the back to the front or side or at least change the way they operate as they just don't feel right when turning on and off, but having said that most BBQ's have issues with the knobs and the inside base design is hard to clean. I bought this BBQ over the weber mainly due to the fact I was told you can't cook on a weber with the lid up? if cooking bacon / eggs / sausages / steaks and the like you need to stand over a bbq, lid up and watch it cook while having a drink (well at least I do) I was also looking at the Ziegler & Brown BBQ two things made me go with the Bugg, one price was cheaper and secondly I liked the option of having a full plate (which the gourmet plancha is) so, 12 months on and would I buy it again, yes or maybe I would have a closer look at the Ziegler to see if it covers some of the upgrades I have mentioned. Bottom line, no one complains when I suggest "I will do the cooking on the Bugg"
So Far So Good – I am yet to use the BBQ but so far I am very impressed. For a Portable Barbeque, I found the build quality excellent and the assembly very easy. Unlike the reviewer on September 10th (Ashley), I don't believe I have a high IQ but I'm pretty handy. It took me about 30 minutes to put the stand together once it was un-boxed. It's not entirely… Read more
accurate to say it has 83 parts either! It has 20 parts. The rest are screws and washers etc...One thing that was great is that all the small components such as the screws and the essential allen key came in a sealed and labelled pack. Meaning no missing parts. The circlips that are used to hold the wheels in place, I pushed on with the aid of a flat head screw driver.
The BBQ itself appears very well manufactured. I love the hood mechanism, its got a real feeling of quality. The addition of two little rubber rests on the rim of the BBQ also means it closes softly and quietly. The control knobs are located on the side rear of the BBQ, this may seem odd to some but they are visible and within easy reach. It's only a small BBQ remember. I like that they are out of the way.
All of the other components, grill plates, shelves, burners, handles, thermometer etc. are what I would expect from a Quality 'Portable' BBQ. I also like the fact that you have different plate and grill options as they are reversable. No need to buy extra parts. The drip tray is held in pace by the Locking U-Bolt (which locks the BBQ to the stand) Unlike it was suggested in one post, the U-bolt is easily removed with a good pull. There are no bolts to undo. The only things I think could be improved on are the accessory hooks and the method of wheel attachment. The hooks look and feel cheap (light metal with a fake chrome coating) and the wheels are a bit wobbly. I think the addition of a simple shim between the bracket and wheel will easily fix that. I've owned Weber's and Coleman's and each has their pro's and cons. For me the BUGG is great value for money. I will be using the BBQ in the next few days. So I'll let you know how the cooking and cleanup goes.
