I had mine converted to natural gas, possible LPG gas experience may be different but won't fix flaws. Had the Crossray for a few years now, replacing my Webber BBQ as I wanted an outdoor kitchen. This was a mistake. Wish I still had my Webber. If you are looking for a BBQ to cook sausages, steak, chops etc or a basic roast a chicken or lamb… Read more
then there are no issues with the BBQ, the only reason it didn't get a 1 star.
The issue is with the burners, if you want to roast something that cannot put on the top rack or you want to use a pot this is the wrong BBQ for you.
The issue is with the burners, since they are horizontal instead of vertical they run half the width of the BBQ. This means as soon as one is alight half the BBQ gets direct heat and you cannot put anything in the middle of the BBQ that wants convection cooking. On a BBQ with virtual burners you can light the outer burners and put what you want to cook in the middle and cook with good heat without direct heat. The only solution with the Crossray is to use the rack, which is limited by size between rack and lid. Tried using 2 burners on one side but gets poor conversion heat. Hard to move my pot from BBQ to oven tonight to try and save it, prompted me to write this review.
Other issues 2 of the 4 rubber stops for the lid failed within 2 weeks. The exposed side of the fridge fads quickly and is an awful colour of black now. As typical of this type of flat pack type of thing, it never goes together as it should. The BBQ is not sealed at the back. So rodents can get easy access to the fat tray (insert spewing emoji) I had to plug mine up with bricks.
Fine for basic BBQ duties but look else where if you have more expectations of using an outdoor kitchen.
We chose this as we wanted a gas BBQ with only hot plates + no grill. This is the only BBQ we found which ticked these boxes. As it uses less gas you can get away with no grill. Is 2 years old + we use 2-3 times a week and is good as new. Show reply
BBQ arrived pretty quickly, however when I went to assemble it I noticed both the castor seats were missing. I contacted Crossray customer support and the lady there didn't even offer an apology and told me I could use the BBQ regardless. I told here the weight of the BBQ rests on the castor seats so I wasn't going to do that. I was told it would… Read more
take 7-10 working days to get the parts to me. A disappointing experience for a BBQ that costs over $2k. Please take note, these BBQ are made and packaged in China. At least with the $400 Bunnings BBQ if something is missing you can go back there and swap it out.
I had invited friends over for a BBQ this long weekend but will instead show them a BBQ in pieces and tell them not to buy a Crossray.

This is the most powerful BBQ I have ever owned!! It allows you char grill steaks to absolute perfection and then not mentioned is the higher rack position for resting meat or for baking through with less intensity. The quality of the frame and hood is extremely good and sturdy not like the cr^p you see in the big chain stores these days. Show details · 1
Excellent bbq! Got the outdoor kitchen with double fridge and sink, but it’s the bbq that’s so good.. it cooks hot and fast for steaks but can slow it down for rotisserie porchetta which I’ve done a couple of times and literally could not mess it up (used a meater thermometer to cook perfectly)..I haven’t really learned to get the best out of it yet but it still surpasses any previous bbq and well exceeds my expectations! Best gas BBQ I have ever owned. East / West burner layout facilitates easy indirect grilling . I can do three whole spatchcocked chickens or a bunch of chicken wings on the top grate indirect with only the two front burners lit. It is also a searing monster for that perfect crust on steaks . The extreme heat capability of this unit is your… Read more · 1
friend for good grilling however with great power also comes responsibility . Make sure to clean this grill and the grease tray thoroughly after every cook if you plan to fire it up on all 4 burners otherwise you will end up with a fat fire . I removed the burner retaining brackets on mine so I can pull the burners out for easy cleaning . I have absolutely hammered mine in the 5 years that I have owned it , cooking on it up to five times a week , however product support and spare parts availability from Crossray has been excellent. Did I mention that I absolutely love this BBQ ?
Best BBQ ever!!!! – By far the BEST BBQ I’ve ever owned. This thing cooks meat and vegetables with a beautiful char that adds heaps of flavour. Do yourself a favour and buy the rotisserie accessory - Porchetta has the most amazing crunchy skin! The Crossways completely changed the way I BBQ… all seasons. Heats up fast. A breeze to clean (just crank up the heat and… Read more
close the lid). Gas bottle lasts ages. I don’t cook meat indoors anymore! Couldn’t recommend it more. Service is first class and prompt.

The BBQ you didn't know you had to have – Once you've move to the Crossray there's no going back. Perfect for basic steaks, chops, cevaps ect through to amazing pizzas and of course some of the best gyros. Has the ability to cook super hot and seal in moisture. The Crossray tech burns up drippings before they hit the tray, therefore cleaning is minimal and this burn creates a beautiful smokey flavour. I won't cook on a conventional unit from now on. I have owned this BBQ for only 8 months and all though it cooks excellent it the enamel coated grill plates have already started to rust. I honestly feel like I have looked after the BBQ well, including following their recommended burn-off and clean procedure after each use and avoid using steel cooking utensils on the surface. Despite this the… Read more
rust has come through.
I suspect its the quality of the enamel coating causing initial issue and this has/is now being accelerated being QLD's humid climate. Disappointed by the longevity considering the premium price tag.
Crossray need to consider selling a full stainless steel option as the other surfaces of the grill, including the upper rack and trolley (which are stainless steel) are still in great condition.
UPDATE October 2025 - Replacement grills have been received under warranty which is appreciated. However I don't have a lot of confidence that they will last more much more than 12 months. Comment about need to oil specifically with avocado oil is not mentioned anywhere in the manual....
2ND UPDATE November 2025 - Less than 1 month after new grill plates have arrived under warranty 1 of 3 have already started to rust again (new photos 4 and 5 added). Even used avocado oil (see photo 5) specifically this time as suggested by support. Guessing the coating they apply to these grills is of cheap/poor quality and/or not compatible with the temperatures this BBQ can reach. Really disappointing considering price paid. For anyone reading, since Crossray won't offer stainless steel grill plates to match the rest of the BBQ build, please be aware that there is a company custom making stainless steel plates to fit there BBQ range: https://www.topnotchoutdoors.com.au/products/crossray-280-x-395mm-topnotch-stainless-steel-round-bar-grill

My old Turbo BBQ after 20 years died. I looked many reviews and found that everyone was praising the infra-red side burner. I started to think if it is so good why not buying Infrared BBQ. My research found that there were not many on the market and… Read more · 1
I decided to go with the cheapest option and luckily for me I found an "Australian" made one. Before I commeeted I tried to find reviews but there were not many. I bought the BBQ from Kitchen warehouse. The BBQ arrived in 3 days and was extremely well packed. Despite being advertised that the BBQwas made in Australia, on the box with capital letter was written "made in China". Assambling the trolley took about 3 hours and was a bit complicated. Once the trolley was done the rest was easy. The trolley seems to be made from alluminium, not stainless steel. For me the wheels look funny...I am not sure why they were placed facing outside of the BBQ. They are also extremely hard to lock and unlock. The space under the BBQ is enough for 2 gas bottles but everywhere is written to place only one. So if you don't use for gas bottle it seems to be a dead space. The rest of the BBQ is well made. Sturdy stainless steel hood. However the lights on the knobs seen on previous models are gone. I could not understand why they didn't make the side tables retractable? My old 20 years BBQ had retractable side table and I see that they adverise this on the new model..really? Was it really so hard to include this space saver in all their models? There were also some wires poping out the side of the BBQ. I was concerned about safety but using the BBQ I found this area not to become very hot. Still would be better these cable not to be visible.. Connecting the BBQ was a bit "difficult". The BBQ came supplied with a new gas kit which didn' fit my gas bottle. I wasn't sure whether this was due to the fact that the BBQ was made in China and sent an inquiry to Crossray...they did not respond. I asked Kitchen warehouse and they clarified the matter. I asked them why this was not included in the instruction and why an adaptor was not included...again no answer. So the fallow up process was very disappointing. Cooking was fine. The BBQ produces extreme heat but food tastes great and the learning curve is not steep. You have to just keep a close eye on the cooking because the food can be easily burnt. I found the cleaning process after cooking to be easy. No issues there. In short, the the BBQ is great and I highly recommend it. Yes, there are a few short falls such as lack of lights on hhe knobs, poor design of the trolley and visible cables but once you taste your food you will easy forget about these..just hope these pitfalls will not afect the longevity of the BBQ.
Follow-up · Thank you for the interest. Answers to the questions are below: Infrared cooking any surprises? Yes. The food cooks extremely fast and needs constant supervision. You cannot leave the food and go and do things around the house because the food will burn. The food is very tasty. I think the extreme heat generated changes the taste in good way. We… Read more

Bbq is great and the fridge is nice. I just wish the fridge came with some sort of locking in mechanism as it moves around inside the space when you close the door. Show reply
Customer service was fantastic after a few small warranty issues. Product itself cooks perfect. No flare up like my old traditional gas bbq. Converted to natural gas so the cooking isn't as hot as normal gas but this makes cooking better. I can cook my sausages on the grill rather than the upper rack due to intense heat as an example. Steaks cook perfect and restaurant quality grill marks on my steaks! Show reply

I'm loving it. It cooks so fast but I'm struggling to control it! how do I cook the basics like sausages without them burning on the grill lines? The temps to go to 250+ C within 10 mins and I end up putting the sausages inside on the upper racks and cooking like an oven..I know once I learn to control this it is an absolute weapon! Show reply

I have owned a 4 burner crossray bbq since 2022. I am trying to love it but am struggling despite the overwhelming positive reviews. Unfortunately the negatives are outweighing the positives. Pros: seems well built, looks nice, high heat, great for pizza but limited by size as you have to use the top rack. Cons: The temperature dials don’t really… Read more
control the temperature too well. Low heat and high heat are pretty much the same for me. Does not do ‘low and slow’ very well as it eventually creeps up quite high, In built Temp gauge not great, Tends to burn meat cooked on grills and hot plate (including sausages which need to be cooked on the top rack), Not great access to hot plate and grill when top rack is in play, Not super easy to clean… This Bbq seems to deal well outside

I CANNOT rate the BBQ as I have NOT received it . I purchased an outdoor kitchen bbq online 1 month ago and still nothing !!! and they expect them in any day. For compensation to placate my anger they sent a bbq cover - not much use to me without a bbq ! The Crossray sales staff on the phone are condescending, uninterested to the point of rudeness. Today I asked to speak with the Customer Service Manager, whom I have been dealing with- he is not in, and neither is the Sales Manager - perhaps they are all looking for a new job ! I have been advised today that the missing parts have arrived, and despite my order having a "priority", it will still be several days until it is dispatched.

So far not great – Purchased with natural gas conversion kit that didn't include the required 1.85mm jets for the TCS2, which I also purchased on the same order. Rang Crossray and they don't include them anymore be because the "igniters are upgraded on this model now" and that I should use the provided 1.77mm jets. Both the BBQ compliance plate and natural gas… Read more
conversion kit instructions still refer to this barbeque needing 1.85mm jets. Presumably this means every TCS2 will underperform and not reach the advertised BTU rating because you don't provide the rated jets any more? I haven't even finish connecting up the barbeque and already not a great experience.

Love my Crossray bbq! I highly recommend buying one. For some reason I have had trouble with my bbq grills. This has happened twice, I mailed Crossray and they sent me new ones straight away! Their customer service is amazing! Show details · 1
Purchased from a reseller, Tucker BBQs Mona Vale, NSW who were excellent with communication and price. They also offered to take the loads of cardboard. Can't fault customer service from Thermofilm, who quickly responded to an order discrepancy with Crossray product and took immediate action to rectify. Definitely worth taking the time to write this review to highlight exceptional customer service. The BBQ itself is very high quality and easy to clean. Show details · 1
One year on & I still think this is the best BBQ, period. I use it 2-3 times a week for all grilling (lid up) roasting & often use the rotisserie when roasting (lid down). Steaks have the perfect sear wherever they are on the grill with no flareup. The only time the BBQ flares up is with fatty loin chops, easily solved by removing most of the fat.… Read more · 1
The upper grill is perfect for chicken after a quick browning on the main grill. The biggest tribute to this BBQ is that I keep it very clean because I love it!! I did not extend the same courtesy to a Weber Spirit that I was glad to see the back of. The only down side is that the enamel on the grill plates is flaking off.
Loving my Crossray, it cooks neat beautifully, but wish I got around to asking this quicker. My grills and hot plate I purchase has rusted very quickly. Is that normal? Also, any tips on reducing smoke when you are cooking a full BBQ? It seems to be okay when just cooking som snags and a couple of steaks, but anymore than that and the smoke goes crazy. Heats up fast and cooks evenly. Hardly any flare-ups, which is a win, and it’s easy to clean too. Looks sleek and feels solid, not like some of those flimsy ones. Perfect for weekend barbies or a quick midweek cook-up. Show details · 1
Not only is the BBQ amazing the service is above and beyond. ask if this was an issue and the next day received a call to say they had started a warranty claim and the following day was called to say a new grill had been shipped.
To be honest it was a minor fault that wasn't really bothering me I was just concerned it might deteriorate further, but to have it replaced immediately with no hoops to jump through or push back that it was 2 years old is outstanding.
If you are looking for a new BBQ I cannot recommend these highly enough. Takes a little getting used to the different style but once you do you won't go back, especially if you like a good char on your meat that only high heat can give.
If you like a BBQ that can get very hot then this is the one. Cooking fast and hot is great for flavour and juiciness. But it can be kept right down by turning off a burner. Self cleaning by leaving on high for 5 minutes. Solidly built. Show details · 1
Generates a lot of heat ... pub style cooking!! – A while back, I bought the weber BQ and provided a review (https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/weber-family-q-premium-q3200-lpg). it is a bit difficult to control the heat (possibly because I converted to LNG). The option is to turn off one or 2 burners if needing to reduce the heat. Of course there are the challenges with cleaning, etc. but that is not uncommon with BBQs.
Built in 4 burner barbecue – Without a doubt, this is the best barbie I’ve owned. The heat up is super fast and cooking is a breeze. So far it’s been steak and sausages and a roast pork. I did take a little while to get used to controlling the heat but it’s fine now. Seems to use a lot less gas than my previous “ZB” barbecue to cook a big roast. Very happy to recommend infrared cooking. Show details · 1
Crossway Excellence – The Crossway 4 burner BBQ is the very best on the market. Every meal from a sausage to steak and onwards to a Pizza are just cooked to perfection. Added fact is pace of cooking time and massive savings on the Gas. I am not sure how many of my friends are now owners but I seriously recommend this product to everybody. Show reply
Great Product & Exceptional After Sales Service – The 4 burner Crossray bbq outdoor kitchen set has been great. Great BBQ – I use my bbq about 3 times a week as I only eat meat so I load up every square inch of space on it and I’m surprised all meat cooks evenly all over the cooking surface which was unlike my last bbq which only had the back half of useful grilling space. just from the radiant heat. I only clean the insides about once a month so there’s always fat drippings in there. The high heat output means a great sear to lock in the juices. One inch thick steak for two minutes each side gives me medium to medium rare steaks yuuuum. I can’t fault my crossray and would recommend it to any serious carnivores.
