Very compact SUV F48 X1 – Bought a used 2020 F48 sDrive20i with 53,000km, for the kids. Still had to pay top dollar from the dealership. Compared the specifications and comfort features with the new Japanese, Korean and European equivalents. I took a punt on a BMW X1 poverty pack. Didn't have any added options. The Good - It's a front wheel drive with a turbo. It glides… Read more
up slight inclines really well. You will notice an additional "surge" from the engine, which i have not experienced with any other car. It's a really nice feel because it is not like i am excessively putting my foot down on the accelerator to achieve that "push". Possibly a combination of the turbo and the dual clutch transmission. WAY WAY better than the CVT's. - It has manual seat adjustments, which suits us fine. One less electrical item to worry about in case it goes wrong. - Being a front wheel drive 20i, there is no rear differential, which means less power, but also one less serviceable item to worry about. - Acceptable audio system. Not great for the money. But does the job. - Seat cushioning only good for metropolitan driving.
The Bad - There is no dipstick to check the engine oil. It's all checked electronically. Not good for old school people. - Very noisy interior when driving. This is the first thing i noticed on the test drive. The run-flat tyres are one contributor. The other is the lack of noise insulation front and rear of the vehicle. You will need to pay someone to add insulation to the outside wheel arches and inside the cabin to achieve a quieter ride. - From a stationary position, when changing gears to reverse or drive, there is that surge from the engine. You need to have your foot planted firmly on the brake to limit the movement of the surge. (Very similar to the above mentioned earlier. - Very difficult to see the front of the vehicle, even whilst elevated as an SUV. Difficult to gauge the distance when parking. Japanese and Korean SUV's have slightly better visibility at the front. - Wireless phone charger not big enough for the Apple iPhone Pro Max size. - Plastic rattles from the door trims and handles when opening and closing the door. Which is expected from a poverty pack vehicle.
Overall, a very compact and zippy SUV to get around the city only.
BMW X1 - 2022 – I recently purchased a new BMW X1 2022 from Essendon BMW and had an excellent experience. The salesperson, Nicole,Toni, Louis were very knowledgeable and helpful in finding the perfect car for me. They were very patient and understanding of my needs. The overall process was smooth and stress-free. I also appreciated the thorough explanation of all… Read more
the features and functions of my BMW X1 before I left the dealership. Overall, I highly recommend Essendon BMW dealership to anyone in the market for a new BMW.
Too much of road & tyre noise inside cabin. Defeats the drive – I am surprised to see that none of the owners have noticed the road noise inside the cabin just when crossing 65 KMPH on any road + highways. If you take a drive to GC from City, you are sure to come out deaf due to the amount of road noise inside the cabin. It's a great car, drives great but the noise inside the cabin kills the drive. Absolutely no insulation provided for speeds over 65 kmph. Show details
Very reliable, practical and stylish – 2018 X1 s18i - Stand out car : Use occasionally for general commuting but more significantly for transport to gathering / functions. Kept serviced as per user schedules and by reliable BMW specialists. Not had any mechanical issues reported throughout 3 year period Show details
Practical and Sporty Premium Compact SUV – We were looking a replacement for our trusty Lancer that will fit the requirements for family and at the same time sporty looking one without breaking my wallet. And we found the BMW X1 M Sport 2020, we visited the showroom in Adelaide and had a look at the X1 display. The staff were great and very accomodating and gave us on the spot test drive… Read more
of one of their demo X1s. This model has all the features we need, great interior space including the trunk even with a smaller car dimension from the outside. I love the iDrive which has built in Apple CarPlay, DAB Tuner and Navigation Plus, its far most the easiest Car media I have ever seen. There is wireless charger that fits most latest phones. Ambient Lighting all throughout the car, Panoramic Sunroof. And best of all the engine, its 2 Litre Twin Turbo that has 192hp. Its a car that not only impress you with the badge, its the driving pleasure I enjoy most, accelareation, stability and turning are awesome. Its a comfortable ride and passengers never complain (not with my driving too) and the outside is bearable to nothing. I love it so far specially wife and kids. My daily drive.
very satisfy – A commute car everyday. Satisfy with its power and interior, would be better if Carplay is available. BMW service package is so affordable, even cheaper than my previous japanese hatch Jazz. Show details

Absolutely love this car – Bought this car December 2020 as a demonstrator with less than 300kms on the clock. Despite this being the entry level to the X series SUV's it is fully loaded with features and tech. The performance is spectacular. Drives beautifully on 19 inch rims with Goodyear Eagle f1assymetric III tires, gives an exception ride. The 7 speed Dual clutch… Read more
provides lightening fast gear changes, and put into sport mode will rocket you from 0 - 100kph in 7.4 secs. The 2.0 litre twin power turbo is an awesome power plant which delivers 141Kw's (190HP, and 280 Nm torque) but yet, very frugal, we are currently getting 7.2 L/100kms city driving. It is very practical with electric tailgate and 505ltrs space in the boot, the rear seats both recline and move forward with a 40-20-40 split, the centre split is great for long items in the boot. There is extra storage under the boot floor as well. These are just a few of the safety tech in this car: Lane departure warning, cruise control with stop/start function, front collision warning pedestrian and cyclist, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, adaptive head lights and the BMW connected services are great. Love this car and recommend it highly.
Sensor problems under 95,000 km – I bought a 2015 BMWX one diesel version and facing problem with the oil indicator which is showing faulty and BMW people said that’s out of the warranty but it’s only 95,000 km so I don’t think it’s a quality product. 95,000 km where is other brand is giving unlimited kilometres for seven years and this is under five years under 95,000 km. called top brands don’t have trust on their quality. And from the beginning to till now it’s only been to BMW for servicing and all the works.
Love it – The one thing I love above all else with this car is the lack of cabin noise. It is so quiet and drives like a dream. Plenty of room and perfect for work and the family. Show details
Lovely small SUV, our family loves it! – We recently purchased a near new BMW X1 25i m sport. We have downgraded from a Ford Territory, which had become too big for us, now we don't have to carry prams (not to mention a petrol guzzler!). Fits a family of four easily. Can get two (large) car seats in the back when needed but is rare we have to use them these days. Pros Excellent on fuel… Read more
A lot of power and really grips the road. Steering feels tight and well controlled. Lovely interior, full leather seats etc. Huge electric panoramic sunroof. Heads up display feature is awesome, predicts speed limits, displays directions etc. Lots of safety features. Boot space is good with even more under boot storage. Lots of cool features! Plenty of legroom in the back. Sat Nav is a standard and good and entertainment system top notch. Comfortable ride.
Cons No blind spot sensor. Front seats probably a little bit small. Not a problem for me. Hubby thinks they're a bit uncomfy but I don't. Run flat tyres - not sure about this one, apparently can make the car a little noisy. I haven't noticed but have read suggestions to change to standard tyres in the future for an even better ride.
I would absolutely recommend the BMW X1 if you're looking in the smallish SUV range. Cars we compared it too were
The Audi Q5 - Lovely but boring. New Volkswagen Tiguan - Nice car but purchasing VW I wasn't sure.
We also tested lower end cars, Ford Escape, Kia Sportage but unfortunately once you've driven a luxury European car there's no going back!
BMW X1 is definitely value for money, very fun to drive and perfect for a family of four for city driving.
2016 X1 18d - best in its class (and price range) – This car has a stunning appearance and the drive is brilliant. Taking into account the price, i.e lower than an X3 and Mercs this is is worth a test drive. Keep in mind that because it is alot cheaper than an X5 it does not have a premium feel like an X5 however it is certainly a better drive than Mazda and Hyundai's similar size vehicles, including top of the range Mazdas which have a similar price tag. Great car – Car hasn't had any problem so far apart from idrive screen shutting off which was easily fixed with the software update, car is very reliable and perfect for daily use. Highly recommend the X1. Show details
Part of the family! – Had the car since 2016. Wife, kids and I loved it then and still love it today! Perfect for getting to places in style and safely. First time BMW and SUV driver. Would recommend. Show details

Amazing car – Amazing car ! We got it at Hornsby BMW I cannot recommend them enough ! Their team is amazing. Just has our first service & their service teams amazing. Had no problems at all with the car. Beautiful to drive & great on fuel. Plenty of room in the boot & backseat Show details
Fantastic Entry Level BMW – A BMW was never on my radar until I looked at a friends X1 and was surprised at how little it cost. Although I have the base model, it has plenty of features. I love the Sports Mode and automatic parking. The only negative is the number of subscription offers available these days to compliment the electronic equipment such as concierge, maps, apple play. Overall, a great car. Show details
Love my Beemer – Just love it. Beautiful to drive, great to passenger. Easy to clean. Great vision, love the sunroof, upgraded and got the M Sports pack so love the leather seats and interior. Fits four adults very comfortably and even the grandchilds baby seat. Have the run flat tyres - which I'm not sure about. Show details
Affordable BMW SUV – The new BMW X1 which has been refreshed is a great value SUV. Much more spacious than it's older model the latest X1 boosts more power, and is about the same size as older BMW X3's. I would recommend buying the top end model and negotiating a better price as it has a lot of included options rather than the lower models. Show details
Best car – I love the overall performance of the car. Minimum noise, great handling. Interior is very modern and the LED screen is big enough. Very huge legroom even in the back rows. I added on the head up display which is a great feature, shows the speed and GPS on the windscreen which makes everything so much safer and easier to read while you are… Read more
driving! Running costs very low as the car runs on diesel and $60 will give me 1000km on freeway. Never regretted, love this car!
Very roomy – Legroom is big, engine is zippy and fuel consumption is good, car handling is good and dynamic with its 4wd, perfect for family and with kids. Boot space is plenty, a huge improvement from its previous generation. Car design is huge step up and feels bigger than it actually looks Show details
Truly Relaxing And Quiet – The BMW X1 surprises me every time i drive it. It can be just a quiet little mouse and just cruise around it everyday, but click it into sports mode and it's a little pocket rocket. I get lots of stares, i think mainly due to its daytime running lights and the incredible paint finish that just sparkles in the sunlight. I easily get 750 km per tank… Read more
of fuel in city driving and i think (when i eventually) on a long drive might even crack 1000km. The climate control air con is great as well as all of the audio features. You can plug a USB thumb-drive in with your music and play it through the system. There are 3 power jacks in the car front middle and in the boot area so you can power anything up. The auto up down tailgate (key remote) is very handy especially on wet days. I've found the seats to be very comfortable and love the fact that even the rear passengers can recline their seats. The BMW team at Canterbury BMW even included all servicing for the next 5 years in my deal. I will back for the next one in a couple of years. Who knows maybe an X4.
Most uncomfortable seats, hard ride, poor insulation, no blind spot monitor – Anybody doing a test drive in the F48 series BMW should drive the car for at least one hour. Seats are the worst not just by design (basic seat design look like stolen from a toilet) but becoming very uncomfortable over medium to long distances. No premium here. Sport seats are for very skinny people only. Flat run tyres ensure a harsh ride… Read more
especially on 19 inch if no additive dampers are ordered. Insulation from tyres and engine are also poor. Even innovation package does not include blind spot option, cannot be ordered at all. Even Holden or Koreans offer this safety feature as an option. Start - Stop function is best in class. Engine is economical and delivers good torque. Automatic is excellent. idrive very easy to use. Car design is nice. In summary, in a lot of aspects not a premium car but rather disappointing. I am not a VW fan, disappointed about how they treat customers but from a car perspective, Tiguan Highline with innovation package is a better and cheaper option even with DSG. Audi A3 or MB GLA cannot keep up with Tiguan either.
Beautiful car, let down by lack of Apple car play – The new 2016 X1 is a much improved version of the last. It is a perfect small SUV city car. So far, it's been a very reliable ride. We got complementary 5-year free service which was an added bonus. The innovation and comfort package are an extra $2000 each but I felt were well worth it (make sure you negotiate with the BMW dealers and never pay… Read more
RRP!)
Cons:
The navigation system is a touch laggy. We also found out the car was not compatible with Apple car play and there was no way around it.
The 2016 BMW x1 is an improvement over the previous 2010-2015 BMW x1 (e84) – Review of the 2016 BMW x1 18D THE GOOD Diesel fuel = 800km on a tank around the city Better rear leg room Bigger trunk (boot) Start/stop cut in and more smoothly Base model now with diesel motor (Australia) Fuel economy better than my old 2012 BMW x1 Innovations package is excellent and worth the money Bonnet lenght has reduced… Read more
due the engine layout
New diesel engine is improved over my old 2012 x1 sdrive 20d
Base model price for a diesel as standard is excellent and a cheaper than the out going model, where diesel engine was an option
THE BAD
Runflat tyres, mean you feel deep potholds
Drivers seat needs improvement, not as comfortable as the previous model
Has gone from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive, although it still has nearly the same driving response.
