Great Service
1000's of books to choose from & a very easy website to purchase & order from. Fast delivery. Show detailsBooktopia sucks
I wish I had read other reviews before making such large purchases. I made a large pre-order consisting of 10 books. The first book I received had faulty printing, they issued me another copy relatively quickly and even though it was frustrating, I gave them the benefit of the doubt as they resolved the issue rather quickly and drama free; however the other pre-ordered books in my order have been released at other shops and "delayed" at Booktopia. I've had to chase them up, as there is no communication and I've had to organize refunds for two b... Read moreooks now, one by one and purchase them elsewhere. I'm at the point now that I am just going to refund my whole order and make the purchase from Amazon. It seems Booktopia for whatever reason, can't seem to organize themselves to have their orders shipped on time, and other companies are beating them to the punch. Very disappointing.Book in stock still isn't delivered and no up date as to when the book will arrive is available
I ordered Java all in one as it was in stock May 6th. Now Booktopia are telling me the book will be sent in 15 to 18 working days. It is now 29 working days and I can't get any information on when the book will be sent to me. I need this book for my course. The automated chat bot is useless, it requires you to enter the same identifying information multiple times and still can't answer when my book will be sent to me. The bot also can't put me through to a human being without asking for the same information it already has in the chat. Show detailsFlawed
I ordered a book from booktopia on 9/5/24 I understood at the time that it was going to take up to 35 days. But after 50 days and still no word from them I contacted them through live chat and communicated with a robot who told me that it ships in 35 days and do I have any other questions? I requested to speak to a real person. Eventually I got to speak to a lovely courteous person who was very helpful and apologised for the delay and it would take a further 30 days as they were having issues getting stock of this book. I was asked if I would ... Read morelike a store credit or a refund and I requested a refund. I received the refund the following day and then placed an order elsewhere. The book was $17 cheaper and arrived two days later. It is sad to see a company go down as fast as booktopia has. I have dealt with them previously with no issues but it seems that they advertise books on their website then try and source them with some difficulties at times, which then has customers waiting far too long. If they keep running their business like this it won’t be too long before they don’t have a business. Sorry booktopia my advice to people is to purchase elsewhere. And how does that make you feel?
I have ordered a book on 12/6 and today I was told it is due to arrive on 9/7.Why does it take so long to send out a book?
Frustratingly slow service given you are not advised of the slow service when ordering. Show details
Do they check their messages at all?
I have messaged them four times over the past two weeks trying to get an update on my order, which I placed on May 10. Its now almost July and I have not received any response at all. Do they even check messages? Two to Three months to receive order for a kids book. No updates sent
I ordered 2 books on May 23rd for my son. We were not advised of the delay to the order until after the order was completed. My son was upset that the books for his birthday would take 3 weeks for one and 4 weeks for the other to arrive. It's now 6 weeks later and neither books have arrived. No emails have been sent from Booktopia to advise delay. On waiting online for 40mins to speak to customer service they advised - sorry it's going to be another month. 2 months to receive a book!! Apparently the average waiting time is 35 business days. More directly - 7 weeks. That is my last order with Booktopia. Show detailsRefund doesn't get my time back
Bought an eTextbook to use for my studies as I needed it immediately and like the speech function. Wasn't an easy access but did OK until it just disappeared from my "Library". I contacted Booktopia through call and live chat, call just hung up on me after the half hour wait, and the livechat was unavailable for a while. Eventually after half a day of trying to access my book Livechat informed me they were having technical issues with no ETA on when I could access my eText. They offered me a refund but nothing will get that day of study back. I'll just order through Amazon next time.Efficiency plus!
The service was efficient and a lot quicker than I expected. Top marks to Booktopia! Show detailsMisleading ETAs and absolutely no communication
I had ordered 4 books on the 4th March and almost right from the start, I regretted not choosing Blackwell's instead. Two books I had ordered that read as 'in stock' sat as 'waiting to be picked' for almost a week I had to email, and eventually ring them, about this before they told me they'd flag it for their distribution team and it was finally shipped. Of the books that I did get, because the paperback wasn't wrapped in the shipping box, it did end up coming to me quite a bit dog-eared and the hardcover (alongside it's flimsy paper dustjacke... Read moret) did arrive unscathed. Not a major complaint, but even Amazon does a better job of packing books. My major complaint is the other books I had ordered, neither of which I was advised at time of ordering were in stock. However, I did not worry because they had an ETA for me during ordering and an updated one once my order had been processed. Being accustomed to the frequent updates and stock transparency of Blackwell's, I had naively assumed this would be accurate. One book said it would ship 7-10 business days after the order date, the other 15-18 days, with the order date being March 4th. As of writing on the 22nd of June, neither of them have turned up, my attempts to communicate with them regarding the remaining books on this order have been met with silence. I did get an update on ONE of the books back in April informing me that their supplier would have them in stock on the 27-28th of May. Almost a month later, still no update and still no shipment of the books. The other book, with the promised 7-10 day shipping time, has had zero updates since I ordered it. I emailed enquiring about the remaining books last week. Now five working days later, I have had ZERO communication nor have I had any response about this. Now I am just waiting for them to respond to my request to cancel this order; I fear I'll run into the same wall of silence. Oh well, if it's not them cancelling the order, it will be my card company. Just for contrast, I ordered both of these books from Blackwell's as a gift for someone else, both were hardcover versions (which are somewhat rare). They were very transparent about lead times, they told me it was out of print but could still be sourced, they gave me updates without prompting, especially whenever the ETA changed whilst always giving me the option of cancelling if it I thought it too long. I ended up getting it in 5 weeks. It just astounds me how pathetic it is that a company based in Australia is somehow MONTHS behind one based in the UK (Blackwell's). Just because they're locally owned, doesn't mean they're not a horrible business. It pains me to say this because I do want to support local business but I would recommend avoiding this business at all costs. It's pretty clear that the regard they have for their customer is non-existent, contempt for their customers is probably more accurate.Terrible
No communication whatsoever when there is a query or issue and items take months before they even ship. Go elsewhere and it's available and ships in no time. And I'm paying postage when other sellers offer free postage?!Great way to buy good books online and get them quickly
I always find Booktopia reliable, there's a huge selection across all genres and the books are always well packaged and sent promptly. Show detailsSlow and unreliable
Here in Australia we joke about how slow our postal service is but Booktopia take it to another level.I placed an order for a book in March. Apparently it's out of stock. "No worries," I thought, "I'm in no rush, I'll just wait." Three months later and there's no progress on my order whatsoever. Honestly I'd forgotten about it until my partner brought it up. Went back through my emails and no updates at all, just promotional spam. Forget it. Order cancelled, refund will probably take days.

h Booktopia. A set of DVDs I ordered some years ago also took an inexcusably long time to arrive, though not this long. I should have learned my lesson then. This is a bad joke. It's 2024 - online shopping is well and truly a part of everyday life. We can get almost anything shipped to us worldwide in days or weeks at the most. Why can't 'Australia's local bookstore' get its act together?I'll use Booktopia again

No pictures appear on the Booktopia website when I open it on my Mac. All the words are there but no illustrations. The site works perfectly on my Android phone, but I don't do commerce on it. I've cleared the cache on my Mac, but no change. Any ideas? I don't have ad blockers or the like. Could it be my anti-virus?
I’m so sorry I can’t answer your question due to being a tech dummy
Hi Noel, thanks for reaching out. I am sorry to hear your having trouble with our website.
It might help if I could take a look at what you are seeing on your end. Would you be able to send us a DM with a screenshot?

How?
When I open the booktopia app on my iPhone 13 I get nothing but a white screen. Any troubleshooting advice? I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app but the same problem persists.

Customer service is shocking! No one returns emails nor does anyone bothers to pick up the phone. I want my money back. Can someone from Booktopia please contact me?
Hi Rosalba, thank you for your patience. As I mentioned in your review, I have just sent an email to try and help resolve this issue for you. If you need help with anything else, please don't hesitate to be in touch.
