Excellent Customer Service – My book arrived damaged so I called customer service. My call was answered almost straight away and a replacement book was arranged within 5 minutes. book….yes it was in a cardboard sleeve, but it was far too big for the book ….needed bubble wrap before carefully placing it in the box. I take such good care of my books, so it left me upset instead of excited.
Website and email confirmation after purchase states 3-5 business days for dispatch of order. Website states it's in stock but apparently it wasn't and they had to order. After placing an order for a book I was after, I had it within a week or so. I've been reading it since it arrived and almost finished it already. Yet again 8 books that are marked as in stock trickle in one at a time over 6 plus weeks. I cannot keep track of what i have paid fir, their commu icatiin is awful, and i MUST remember not to use them in future.

only sourced two of the books and were waiting on suppliers for the other two… why indicate you have them in stock if you don’t? I would have used a different company had they been honest. I sent a reply email indicating my disappointment in the company and that I would never use them again. While they replied with an apology i feel that they are not a company to be trusted. If i could give them zero stars would. Furthermore “customer service” person, [Name Removed], in her response to me used the following condescending terms: “as explained before” and “clearly stated” sounds like the words of a person who is not in the practice of SERVING customers, just insulting them. Valid order with valid address and valid credit card delayed a week to be "verified". WHAT? – What sort of company takes an order with a VALID DEBIT CARD and a VALID ADDRESS and then delays sending the item for a WEEK because it then has to be "verified"? Verified, HOW?!!! Moreover I didn't even find out about this until I wondered what was happening, because their second email went to spam. So what have they been doing for Gmail to think that?
I am very suspicious that this is either a delaying tactic to wait for stock or a cover for falsely advertising stock they don't actually have.
If this order is not fulfilled I will be taking them to VCAT for breach of contract.

im very pleased with the Clara black and white Kobo e reader i purchased from booktopia. it arrived quickly and im enjoying using it. ive had the kindle reader for ten years and prefer the Kobo as i can borrow books via the Libby app which i cannot do on the kindle. the site is easy to use and i have bought books from the booktopia site which belong to me not Amazon/Audible. will be cancelling those subscriptions. When they went out of business they owed me $80 from non delivery of orders and the administrators have no interest in repaying as the amount is small to them. I have no interest in buying from Booktopia now they have changed owners as a result

I have tried contacting Booktopia through their messaging system—since no phone number is available—but have received no response. I’m giving Booktopia one star because they refused to honour a perfectly valid gift card after the business changed ownership. I contacted them expecting a simple resolution, but instead received an email explaining that any gift certificates issued before 3 July 2023 are now “no longer valid” due to administration — and that they’re not offering… Read more
refunds or credit for them either.
In other words, customers who paid real money for gift cards are now left with nothing, and the new owners have chosen not to honour those obligations. Being told to “lodge a claim” through an external form instead of receiving support from the company itself just adds to the frustration — and they never reply.
It’s incredibly disappointing to see a well‑known retailer take this approach. A change in ownership shouldn’t wipe out customers’ money, and it certainly shouldn’t be the customer’s problem to chase compensation through an administrative process.
Based on this experience, I can’t recommend Booktopia and will never spend my money there again unless they reinstate the gift card.
