A good product overall – Waters consumption good compare to older models. Machine shakes abnormally at >1200speed rotations. Satisfied overall. Value for money. Noise level needs attention, powerful machine and recommend it. Never trying use it for blankets or similar items though Show details
Solid built, energy & water efficient, just keeps going! – We’ve had this washing machine going on 8 years (and we bought it second hand in the first place). Hasn’t skipped a beat, and would habe been washing on average two loads a day for the past few years. Feels pretty solid and well built (the door latch mechanism looks like it may need replacing in a couple of years. But that’s probably because… Read more · 1
we’ve slammed it shut and yanked it open a couple thousand times by now!)
Relatively low energy and water use given its age.
But wow, people really do like to whine and make a drama in some of these reviews - a 2star review because of an issue with the door handle, despite the rest of the machine works perfectly…really, come on! Seems like some reviewers are more about being vindictive because if failed unrealistiC expectations than about providing honest fair reviews. If you want a flawless product then time to change expectations, but if you want the best product available then go and buy one, not a mid range product that performs exceptionally well. It makes it really hard to choose products and appliances, and reduces the usefulness of websites like this, when the overall ratings get skewed with exaggerated reviews.
Bosch, similarly to Karcher, another German brand went downhill big time. I agree with the other reviews. Two most common issues: rusting and door handle with hinges... OMG people. Seal is no good too. Have replaced plenty of parts. I.e., if sth is wrong with the door then you have to order the whole door for big bucks! Small opening to access… Read more
drum. Where is the German reliability? Nowhere. It is "DESIGN ENGINEERING" so we have to buy it new every couple of years.

Cannot fault this machine – I’ve had this machine for a few weeks now and love it! It has a large selection of wash types covering the most delicate items through to heavy duty cottons and anything in between. There is even a cycle for a mixed wash. Most wash cycles are surprisingly short so there’s no waiting for hours for the cycle to finish. Also a very quiet machine. It… Read more
does leave a little puddle in the rubber seal after each wash but this seems normal with most front loaders and easily wiped out after each wash as recommended in the instruction booklet. Very impressed!
Well made machine as you would expect from Germany and Bosch. Very quiet, very clean and very impressive!! – Bosch make quality items and this is no exception, quite spin cycle, clean colours and bright whites as well as numerous cycles make it a perfect family machine, load capacity is also a huge bonus. Great washing machine but didn’t last as long as I thought – Machine is now 9 yrs 4 mths old. Spent about $200 on repair 2 yrs ago (door). Now engine brushes are gone, would cost another $250. May have had a repair done under extended warranty (can’t remember). Machine is 8kg capacity was expensive at $1600 plus cost of extended warranty. Machine has performed brilliantly but for cost didn’t last as long… Read more · 1
as I thought it would and needed repairs to make it to 9 yrs 4 mths.
We are family of 5 and do 9 plus washes a week.
Will not repair again as door repaired 2 yrs ago not great.
Would have Miele lasted longer? With money spent on repairs would not have cost much more.
Negative reviews
Really expected better – Door handle broke and Bosch service/spare parts were patronising and defensive AND offensive. Hardly a great example of quality service. Poorly engineered as the plastic piece of the door handle that presses up to unlock the door breaks off. Show details
German built, but not built to last – Good Machine to start with, but considering how much we paid for the unit, disappointed in the unit as it is started to rust, in various places after about 7 years. It has door issues where the door does not close to a neat fitting close, you have to slightly lift the door to actually close it correctly. We are now looking at replacing this unit… Read more
and it definitely will not be a Bosch. German built means little now compared to cheaper Samsung's and LG's, which have certainly caught up to the European standard

Was a good machine for the short time it lasted! – Was a good machine that washed well and was very gentle. Had door issues 2 years ago but it sounds like this is a common issue with these machines. We fixed the door myself at a relatively low cost. The machine has not had a hard life with our little family and has only lasted 7 years which is a little disappointing when considering how much we paid for it... I think we'll try our luck with a different brand this time...

Can't complain at all – WAS28440/20. I've had this machine for approximately 8 years. The first 4 in Country WA then 4 in TAS. It has done a minimum of 2 washes a day, seven days a week in those 8 years. It has survived being bounced across Australia in a container with the removalists. Last week the door hinge broke, so we'll order a replacement. As the title says ... Can't complain at all :) Show details · 1
Terrible life span – I had this washing machine for just over 6 years. It was a major expense at the time, costing over $1,600 which is mental for a 8kg washing machine. I bought German build hoping it might be superior. Washing quality has always been very good. But we've had ongoing issues with the door. We had it fixed under warranty once, and then recently it has… Read more
seemed to droop off its hinges so I have to slam it to shut it. That was OK to live with, but it just died, with an error F43 so the motor has gone. I can't believe it only lasted 6 years for the price. I suspect I may have been able to push my consumer rights, as washing machines at that price should last quite a bit longer than that, so it couldn't be considered fit for purpose. But I have two babies and need a washing machine every day. So, I just bit the bullet and bought a new one. Doesn't stop me from writing a review though! I think it's probably a god idea to think twice before buying Bosch - this manufacturer should know how to make things that last - when they fail within a short period of time, you know they have been made deliberately to fail.

Love It! – My 1st front loader. Clothes are noticeably cleaner. It is quiet and water and energy efficient. Cycles are longer than top loaders. I wish the drum was bigger. I could fit much more in the top loader even though it was only a 7kg. I'm very happy with the purchase. Show details · 1
What a Lemon – Less than 4 years from a washing machine. Clearly a lemon. So loud sounded like it would explode on spin cycle. The arrogance of Bosch to suggest that I was not taking care. I should wash in greater than 40 degrees, use less powder and wash in 90 degrees once a fortnight. Seriously? Last washing machine I had was for 15 years. What lies. Don't ever put trust in Bosch. BOSCH ½ a star at best – Ok it's out of warranty but I would have expected that it would have lasted a lot longer than it did! Save your money folks! Buy the cheapest machine possible and save your money on the expensive BOSCH as it will probably be made of the same cheap plastic and rubber as the expensive one that I bought! Hmm this is my second Bosch appliance to have died in the last 6 months, I won't buy a Bosch appliance ever again! Show details

Ok for 9 months then had an issue but eventually sorted out by Bosh – The seal split and when the Bosh approved repair man came out told us this was not under warranty. Since he fixed it the noise on the spin cycle is ridiculously loud. Devastated as this is my first front loader after having a top loader. Thought I had done my homework and spent a bit more money thinking made in Germany would be better. Update.… Read more
The Bosh team were fantastic. This model is not made anymore. They replaced it with a new, updated model. Very happy now and I would not hesitate to buy a bosh again. It washes brilliantly and gently and is very quiet and easy to use. I love the dial which lights up and the easy way you can add a prewash cycle.
Door seal gone already – This machine has washed well for my family up until recently. However, the machine is barely three years old and the door seal has already gone - torn and leaking onto the floor. It is extremely expensive to replace the seal. I was not expecting to need to need a pricey repair this soon for what is supposed to be a 'premium' appliance. I'm disappointed in Bosch. Show details

Initially good....now an expensive lemon! – We paid over $1500 for this machine almost four years ago. A big transition for us, as we'd always used top loaders - but we wanted to upgrade to what we thought would be a good, reliable machine. In fairness, the machine has always washed very well and is extremely economical. The spin cycle has always been troublesome, in that it doesn't… Read more
always spin the clothes properly and it is EXTREMELY loud. This is despite the fact that I've never overloaded the machine, I clean the filter regularly and I clean the door & seal after each use. Yesterday, I noticed that the machine was leaking from the front - all over my laundry floor. I also noticed a brown / rust stain in the door seal. Sounds like the bearings and the door seal have had it, at the least.
Bosch customer service were useless. As soon as they heard it's out of warranty, they couldn't wait to get us off the phone. I'm now waiting for a local repairman to come and assess the lemon (our our expense). I won't be buying another Bosch washing machine or appliance. Buyer beware!
Expensive machine that does not last – Have had this machine since march 2011. Cost $1600 at Harvey Norman with extended warranty for four years. I thought l was buying a machine that would last for many years with a young family. Sadly not the case . It was fixed under warranty after 2 years because it would not spin. cannot stand in the laundry. Sounds like it is going to explode. After a technician checked the fault we have been told its the drum bearing. Unfortunately as expected the whole drum needs replacing because you can't get individual parts. Now it is either spend around $700 minimum or purchase a new machine. We had an old Fisher Paykel top loader and it lasted 17 years with minimal repairs.
Obviously price does not reflect quality.
Very disappointed. Cant afford to spend that sort of money every 5 years.

DONT BUY BOSCH. Hopeless, overpriced machine and the worst customer servicer ever – So many things wrong with this machine i dont even know where to start. It takes ages, its noisy, it doesnt spin dry nicely....I can handle all of those things.. its impossible to get out. I havent been able to use my machine since christmas because I cant turn the filter cap to empty it. Upon calling "customer service" (what a joke ..."bare minimum service" would be closer to the truth. after introducing myself and explaining the problem I was told by a lovely robot with an English accent that "Ye its probably stuck because theres something caught in there...so yeah...theres nothing we can do sorry". Oh ok....so I'll just get a new one shall I ???? After I told her I was suprised that thats where she was going to leave it she said "well I dont know what you want from me". "Customer service? Help with a problem with your product?? After sales care??" I said. She proceeded to moan, sigh and 'oh god' her way through the phone call until I asked to speak to a supervisor. I'm quite sure the 'supervisor' was her trying to do a different voice. Bizarre, not helpful and so incredibly rude. Thanks BOSCH....never again.

Initially great now disappointed – I bought my machine in October 2012. The machine is quiet and generally works well. I live in a small apartment with no separate laundry so having a washer/dryer combined provides the best use of space. It also has a water cut off mechanism if something happens which means there is no flooding of the apartment if the machine breaks down. The wash… Read more
cycles work well however it doesn't have a separate spin only cycle which would be good otherwise I have been really happy with my purchase up to date. Bosh has a great reputation which is one of the reasons I decided on the Bosh Washer/Dryer however just 3 years and 3 months from purchase my washer/dryer has completely stopped working. I've been quoted $895 to replace the PCB board plus technicians time plus have been warned that there could be other parts that may be needed after the PCB has been installed and the machine reset. Value for money is very disappointing overall. Having read some prior reviews on Bosh washers on the web I was surprised to see the number of washers that stopped working between 3-5 years with the same issue as mine.
I am now seriously thinking of purchasing a new machine instead if repairing but unfortunately don't think I will be replacing it with another Bosh.

Open door with a knife – Have been using for about 5 years but for 2 of those i have been opening the door of my washing machine with a knife. It was out of warranty so I didn't have the time or money to be arranging a replacement. Still after only a few years of use I would have expected my Bosch to last a bit longer. No real issues with washing. Seems to do the job!

warranty that I purchased . I will never buy bosch again and after reading the many other reviews it is obvious these machines are made cheap and only meant to last whilst under warranty which is unacceptable when you are paying well over $1000 for it.

Safety Switch Keeps Tripping - Faulty Motor – As many others have noted with this washer: 1) It was a very expensive purchase 2) Has not lived up to service life expectations Mine is 5 years old and is now unuseable. It has the very common "trips the house safety switch" issue as soon as it is powered on. The first occurrence of this was mid way through a recent wash cycle. By… Read more
disconnecting the washer drive motor from the wiring harness, the washer now powers up without tripping the safety switch. I have been able to select and run the drain cycle so that I can open the washer and remove the clothes.
Upon inspection of the motor, It is clear why our safety switch is being tripped. The motor has low resistance between the live part of the motor and its metal case. In this state, the motor chassis is essentially electrically live. Installed in a residence without a safety switch, these washers are a safety hazard !
This washer does have some good points. It did do a very good job of cleaning clothes, however at this price, I expected much better.
Many of us writing here, were wooed by supposed Bosch legendary reliability, and many of us paid a price premium for it.
The reality is that these machines are no more reliable than those costing half the price, as many other less expensive brands are also capable of 5 years service life.
A spare motor for this washer is approx $500 (not including install). Considering the other poor user reviews on this model, it is not worth the risk in my opinion. I will put the repair costs towards a new machine. What a shame, that even an expensive machine can become landfill in only 5 years.
This experience is a wake up call for me. You see, these Bosch washers in reality have the same 2 year warranty of cheaper machines. The manufacturer has no expectation that they will last any longer.
Sincerely
Another Dissatisfied Bosch Customer

Cheap build and poor excuses – My machine is under two years and the top has started cracking in both corners, and the bottom part of the machine is bulging out. Bosch is riding on the coat tails of their old reliable reputation, but are the same as any other company using cheap materials and avoiding any responsibility.

Door Wont Open! – Owned for a little over 2 years. I also paid extra to get a Bosch expecting no issues. It definitely has door lock issues. However I am very happy with the way it washes and the variety of cycles and spin options. I am unhappy that it only lasted the warranty time (2 years) and I now have to pay to get the doors fixed.

Good, reliable washing machine – I have had this machine for 4 years now. I am really happy with it. It cleans my clothes really well. The only drawback is the long cycles-about 1 hour 26 mins for an 8kg 40C wash. You can make it shorter by using the 1 hour 60C wash, or the quick 15 min short wash for a few items. My feedback to Bosch is to make the lint plastic screw knob… Read more · 2
out of stronger plastic. My hubby broke it as he was trying to unscrew it resulting in a $150 call out fee, and a part replacement. Being the only time it has had a problem in 4 years, I think this is a good average.. All in all, I would definitely buy a Bosch product again.
Expensive rubbish – This machine is a big, big costly headache. We bought it over a year ago & often it refuses to spin, with or without clothes in it. We've wasted hours adjusting the weight & programmes but still no go. All the extra electricity we've had to use trying to coax it to spin. Have had enough & want money back. It's an expensive dud. Do not buy.

Good reliable washer – I have owned this washer for 5 years now. In that time I have not once had to have any repairs carried out (touch wood!). I have 3 little kids, so it is used daily & sometimes 2-3 loads per day. I love the variety of wash selections & the size capacity. I usually use the Cottons cycle on a 30 degree wash and find this a good all rounder. I… Read more · 1
also love the quietness of the machine. It's so quiet, that I can't even hear it on most days. I also haven't had any problems with wash quality. Certain items that are heavily stained, I would normally soak in my laundry trough with some napisan overnight & then throw through the wash the next day.
My problems with the machine are the alarm at the end of the cycle to let you know it's finished. It goes on and on and on! Sometimes I'm just too busy to get to the machine to turn it off, so I have to put up with its incessant noise which is really annoying. No idea why the manufacturer felt the need to have the alarm beep for so long.
My other problem with the machine is that after the cycle, a small amount of water will rest in the seal of the door. After 5 yrs, I have got quite a bit of staining & every so often, I have to get out some mould cleaner & thoroughly clean the seal, which is a pain. I leave the door open always when not in use, but it never fully dries out. And I've never been one to remember to wipe it out anyway. I also have noticed that it can get a bit of soap build up in the wash & I then usually just do a hot wash with nothing in the machine except a litre or so of vinegar. I use liquid detergent (always half the quantity recommended by the manufacturer as 2 of my children suffer eczema) and I do not use fabric softener.
Overall, I'm very happy with the machine.
Design flaws and other issues – Most people buy a front loader for environmental and cheaper to run issues. 1. However with my Bosch it only connects to the cold tap which means that cheaper more efficient solar hot water cannot be used in the machine. 2. The default water temperature settings are high - 60 degrees - and when I want to cold water wash, again for economic and… Read more
environmental reasons I have to change the temperature - the default setting should be COLD. 3. The front loader does not spin clothes as dry as a top loader which of course takes then longer to dry especially if using a clothes dryer. 4. Water does lodge in the base of the rubber door seal which has to be wiped out after each wash or mould appears (I am in the tropics). 5. Towels etc are hard and scratchy as other reviewers have stated - however I have found that using Canestan (from Coles and Woolworths for around $8.50) will give soft towels. Canestan is an anti fungal and anti bacterial - I have no idea how it helps but I find that it works where fabric softener doesn't. 6. And my biggest gripe is the smell of staleness in the clothes in a very short time. I dry on the line in the sun and I am using the same top quality top loader powder I have always used - I am not alone in this complaint of staleness and I have noticed it in other people's closets and clothes. I wore a T shirt recently that hadn't been worn for several years and which had never been in the Bosch W/M and it still smelled as fresh as when it was washed whereas the ones washed in the Bosch smell stale after about 4 weeks and need to be rewashed before wearing. Washing in hot water does not prevent the staleness smell and it has got to the stage that I empty the water valve before each wash - which doesn't make much difference anyway. It is not a personal hygiene issue and I don't have any medical condition that could cause this problem. I would not recommend Bosch and would not buy another one. Because of these issues I am seriously thinking of buying a new machine even though mine is not very old and is in showroom condition - the only thing holding me back is that I might get a machine that is worse than the one I have as the staleness problem and the design issues are not ones I can test for prior to purchase. I expected that with German technology and expertise that the machine would not have serious design faults and operational deficiencies.

Do not buy!! – I researched this machine extensively after having a Maytag for 14 years. and Bosch. He came and stated it was a blockage. He claimed to fix it and left. It was not fixed. I called him again and waited another 3 weeks for an appointment. He came and stated it needed a part. He ordered it. It took 6 weeks to come. It did not fix the problem. It needed a new powerboard, this was all going to cost me $1400, nearly as much as the machine! I called Bosch and wrote many distressed emails to head office stating how disappointed I was with their German engineering and brand name. After 4 months of back and forth they agreed to pay for the parts and I payed for the labour. They refused to give me a new machine. It has now been twelve months and you guessed it.....It has now happened again. I am bitterly disappointed. I am looking do update my whole kitchen as are two of my sister in-laws and we were looking at Bosch appliances. This will no longer be the case..obviously. I will now also sadly be a co-contributor to landfill as I now have to give up the fight and throw the machine out as it is obviously a dud model. Please do not buy Bosch, especially this model as it has cost me a lot of time and money at the local laundromat as I have a large family of boys :(

should work for more than 3 years. Our old Hoover lasted 10 years. I would therefore expect Bosch to honour their products brand name by fixing this for free even though it is out of warranty by 12 months.
