I love my Breville The Rice Box Cooker BRC460 – I bought this rice cooker in 2015 from Billy Guyatts online for $99 including delivery. It's 2021 and I'm still using it. It works very well, cooks me perfect rice every time for my family. It doesn't stick and doesn't leak etc. It switches to warm once the rice is cooked. I wash the rice and add the rice, water and a pinch of salt to the cooker and press go. The Breville rice cooker does all the rest for me. Perfect rice every time and if I get busy and take some time to get back to the cooker, it's switched to warm and my rice is perfect (not burned like it would be on the stove). I love one touch cooking. It does have many settings but I use it just for rice. It never disappoints.

Purchased in for $99.

Doesn't last – Bought this rice cooker last July (2016) to replace my grandfather's that I was using (10+ years old and going strong), and twice now it simply doesn't work without any warning. No flashing C3 or C4 error lights, nothing. Just doesn't work. Received a replacement unit in April 2017 and today, Aug 26 2017, not even 5 months old, and it just doesn't work. I don't even use it frequently, maybe once every 2-3 weeks. Loved it when it worked and found the rice to be cooked just right, hence the gracious 2 stars. Come on Breville, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to get this one right, I mean my grandfather's unit was an inexpensive basic model and the only reason I replaced it was because I got suss about the metal bowl and I wanted a larger capacity for when I have the family over.

When it works it's perfectly fine. It however has an inherent design flaw will always appear after either 2 weeks or 5 years. One day you will get a C3 error which is the lid sensor failure. At the hinge are wires connecting the sensor which have very little give and every time you open the lid (i.e. normal use) these wires stretch and eventually… Read more

break. They could easily provide a longer length or make them stronger but no, they saved 5 cents to ensure this device fails. It's absurd. I had a friend re-solder it and now it works again but if you had to pay for this repair it would be $5 in parts and $95 in labour charges. Sorry Breville but just stop allowing this cop out of a design to continue.

Needs better display options – Purchased to replace older style cooker Pros: - rice comes out perfectly every time (basmati and Jasmine used) - rice does not stick to the bottom like the older rice cooker - larger steam tray allows for dim sum cooking options which is great - very easy to clean and the no stick bowl can just be wiped out and not scrubbed. - detachable cord… Read more

helps when storing the machine and your not in fear of breaking the connecter.

Cons: - is a lot bulkier for storing in your kitchen then other rice cookers - can be a little confusing when turning on with a small and simple 2 digit display. They could of had an option to simply number different cooking options. I had to check the manual as I thought it was just on standby. Confusing and not intuitive, but you get the hang of it after a few uses.

C3 error let’s down this great product – I have always found purchasing Breville products a bit of hit and miss. They have some good ideas but often their products fail due to design faults. Unfortunately this is also true with their ‘the rice box’ rice cooker. I purchased my rice cooker a few years ago and was impressed with how well it cooked rice. I liked the quality of the non stick… Read more

cooking bowl that was easy to clean and I liked the measurements that were printed on the side of the bowl. I also liked how this rice cooker did not rattle on the bench like my previous one. The carry handle is a convenient feature when moving from the cupboard to the bench.

Now to the the things I don’t like about this product. I don’t like to membrane buttons, they have always frustrated me. I also don’t like steaming pork buns and vegetables in the plastic steaming dish because I’m afraid of chemicals leaching from the plastic. Now to the design fault that causes the unforgivable C3 fault. The wire that passes from the base of the unit through the lid hinge stretches and breaks causing the C3 fault that stop this product from working. Replacing the wire is a simple fix if you know what you are doing but a customer shouldn’t have to. If Breville designed this better there would not be so many of these rice cookers prematurely going into landfill

All in all it’s a great product that cooks rice well but the C3 fault lets it down.

An unexpected gift that turned out to be indispensable – For years I managed with a microwave rice cooker, but results were always a bit hit and miss. Eventually I dispensed with it and resorted to buying the pre-cooked "Rice Cups" from the supermarket. In a casual conversation with a relative I mentioned this and to my surprise, at Christmas a large parcel was delivered. It was a Breville "The Rice… Read more

Box". When unpacked I was struck by its size - a bit bulky, but I did like its sleek design.

I figured it would take a couple of goes to get the hang of it but to my amazement my first batch of white rice was absolutely perfect. Brown rice followed - again cooked to perfection. It can also be used as a steamer and comes with some interesting recipes, but so far I have only used it for rice cooking. It does take a bit longer than the microwave cooker, but who cares when you get perfect rice every time. It's easy to clean (a big bonus) and I found a spot for it in the pantry so it doesn't clutter my kitchen bench).

What a great gift - I love it to bits!

Not bad – Bought one for $99. Good, clean looking unit out of the box. Hinged to the rear lid closes well, snicks into place with a latch above the control panel. When its released, it doesnt snap back like a bear trap, but rises gently enough on its spring. The seal appears to be silicone, shouldnt perish before the unit has outlived its price. The unit… Read more

is a rounded rectangle thats lower and longer than it is high, but not too wide so bench space wasnt a problem for me. Plus it has a handle that is way more useful than it should be.

Yes, a handle, hinged at the C of G. Yes, i did take it for a test walk. Passed. The use here is one handed retrieval from low storage, and no chance of the usual glass pot lid clattering to the floor. The handle folds away to the back out of sight and does not interfere with operation. It also fold forward and sits within easy reach above the control panel for easy grabbing. Frankly, best feature i think, great job on that one.

Comes with a plastic steamer tray, two plastic paddles, well, ones a spoon really and a cup measure. The cord plugs into the unit and the wall so you can fold it away for tidy storage. The steamer plug in the lid is removable for cleaning. There's a little clear plastic thumb sized...... "thing" included, that seems to slip over a fitting on the left lower back, of which I have not figured out its function. Curious.

EDIT: fit the plastic piece to the side of the unit, then rest your included rice paddle in it, handle down, albeit aligned so the units handle doesn't interfere..... Solved !

The control panel is simplicity itself.... press and go. Done. There's a timer function for steaming.... EDIT: Nope, the timer is for a delayed start, in hours, its not a run timer.

Must admit, I bought this as my old round steamer had lost its lining years ago, time for a change.

Works like it should, get your ratios right and the rice is always perfect. The closed lid seems to trap more moisture than a traditional pot lid type, so be prepared for a little water run off if you keep the rice warm for a few hours and open the lid. The function is automatic up to 24 hours with a count on the digital display, and the rice does not dry out like my other units, unexpected bonus.

The metal tub, non stick, is marked with gradients for conjee (yes, J) and cups.

For $99, not bad, not bad at all.

Good – If Tiger/Zojirushi is available in AU, I would have bought it but the prices are one big deterrent! So far, Breville has been doing a good job (I've used it for about 4 times). Basmati rice are hard to cook and Breville has been doing good. It also has to do with getting familar with the amount of water to be used. I have rate it 4 instead of… Read more

5 purely because of the time taken to cook the rice but other rice cooker may be worse! The bowl is well made and of a good weight. Didn't feel like those cheaper version which feels light and the coating seems like it's not going to withstand constant usage. I cook rice for about 5 times a week.

It certainly looks GOOD on my bench top!

The steaming tray comes in quite handy! But a lot of rice cookers have this as well.

Towards (I think) the last 10 minutes, the LCD will show the time left which is quite handy. You can start cooking process/reheat process since you know the exact time the rice cooker is going to take! The cooking time!

It does have a function for quick cook (for less than 2 cups of rice) but even with quick cook it takes quite long compared to all other rice cookers I have used (Panasonic, Samsung, Tiger) before.

I have timed the cooker and the normal mode of cooking (for 3 cups of rice) takes about 42 minutes and I think (I have not timed it) the quick cook cycle takes about 30 minutes or so.

I should have used a rice cooker sooner – This is so quick and simple to use, we eat a lot of rice so we just add 3 cups of rice 3 cups of water press start and walk away, when it is finished it goes on to a warming cycle. We then remove the perfectly cooked rice either use it with our meal or put it in a container in the fridge. one member of our family likes their rice super fluffy so… Read more

we put theirs in a sieve and pour boiling water through it and fluff it up with a fork. We have tried most of the features and find that they work out as they should, we even steamed dim sims in it perfectly. Cleaning is a breeze and everything that comes with it fits into the steaming basket under the lid, it even has a built in carry handle making it easier to move from the cupboard to the bench. No regrets and a great product, well done Breville!

Great cooker but very slow – The rice cooker is well designed, easy to use with lots of settings. I have had it for nearly three years and running as well as when I first bought it. Easy to clean. The one detractor I find however, it takes at least 40 mins - 1+ hr to cook the rice especially brown.  Show details

Good Quality! – We decided to go with Breville Rice Box because of much good feedback that we heard. Up until now, we are delighted with the Rice Cooker. The Teflon is easy to clean. It can cook two cups of rice for around 30 minutes or less. The lamp indicator also makes us know how long we have been keeping the rice for.  Show details

Quite a good rice cooker – I love it when rice cookers cook rice to perfection every single time with barely any sticking to the bottom. This rice cooker does a perfect job maybe ninety percent of the time, which is still fantastic, but if you are one of those people who want a perfectly reliant rice cooker this is almost exactly what you’re after! I love it, and even on the odd occasion it does stick to the bottom it is never burnt and easily scraped off.  Show details
