Motor burnout and after repair i was told that the the new rattle in the machine was because of "too much butter" – Bought this as the Breville Scraper mixer motor couldn't handle fondant due to motor burnout. After 18months motor needed replacing - same issue Now its fixed by service agent it rattles Customer service says that the new rattle is because i used "too much butter" so if you want something stronger than butter, buy something else. So not good for buttercream or fondant. Show details
Fix it for this Breville – I had used a Breville Bakery Boss at a friends house, and I loved it. But that was a model from about 5 years ago... and had a metal bowl rather than the glass bowl. I assumed being the Bakery Boss, it would be exactly the same as this new one I purchased online from Billy Guyatts! But the mixing attachments didn’t come close enough to the base… Read more
of the bowl! So it didn’t whip eggs whites, it hardly touched them. But! I took it to the nearest Breville repair shop and they were able to adjust the mixer so the attachments actually mix and whip egg whites properly! Thank goodness there is a fix.

Machine Broken - Warranty fix disaster (terrible customer service) – Bottom line is I wish I spent that little extra and brought a Kitchen Aid! This machine broke and the warranty process has taken nearly 3 months so far (still going). Told it would get fixed, waited weeks before I started to follow up. Then after following up approx 4 times with company fixing it and Breville I was told parts could not be… Read more
secured, so I would get a replacement machine.
Fast forward almost 3 months - no parts to fix machine, no new machine and still no ETA. I would not buy another Breville product as after care is terrible.
A blessing and great value for your money – I’m women that comes from a cake baking and cooking background. Although I don't participate as regularly as they do. I am a housewife that bakes cakes and tiramisus for my family twice a month. But has always used a simple Kmart branded hand mixer until I purchased the Breville bakery bossBEM823. The practical build quality is outstanding. It has… Read more
an automatic lock in place mechanism for the motor tilt head as you lift it. The cylindrical speed dial with led lighting to show the levels as you turn the dial is smooth and contemporary. The timer is good, so you can set a specific time for the motor to run, this way you don’t forget about the batter or cream and it overwhipping into butter or dough. The motor headlight function to illuminate the bowl(glass) is awesome to see what is happening to the mix(no other stand mixer I know advertises this). This mixer comes with a double-sided silicon wedged and plastic based batter beater head, an iron-based K beater, and a multi wired oblong whisker, plus the iron based spiral dough hook. There is a plastic splatter proof shield/ detachable lid, with pourer guide attached. Useful for adding flour and or other ingredients to the bowl and avoiding spillage and mess. From the Breville website you can also order separate components and a useful and lighter aluminium bowl for $ 52. Functional quality: today I made butter cake, and it was soooo good having my hands free to do other things. The 1200 watt motor folded the batter without making a really loud noise (my partner was able to watch a movie during this process) from our open plan kitchen/ dining area. The silicon wedged (scraper) beater scraped away the batter from the walls of the glass bowl excellently, I only had to use a spatula to remove and scrape the batter off the beater head and glass once at the end. It’s such a time saver. The whisker attachment did a great job at whisking 4 eggs and left no watery egg consistency underneath at the base of the bowl. I haven't yet whipped cream, but I have no reservations as to this machines capability after it made me a soft golden brown butter cake in at least half the time I would usually take. When flour was added to the batter, the ability of the scraper head to scrape away mix from the bowl worked even better but a little more friction was seen causing the motor head to vibrate but this was on speed 1, and when I increased the speed the friction was less but there was still a bit of movement in the head of the. This expected, but the force wasn’t enough to move the entire mixer around the bench, so that’s a plus! and with the 1200 watt motor it wasn’t showing signs of overheating. It really did a great job. At this stage from having used the benchtop mixer twice, the machine is hard to fault. Overall i really recommend this mixer for the average household, especially for someone that bakes occasionally like me. All the equipment is super easy to clean. A big plus for this model is the retractable power cord. Even though you must push it into the slot, it's sooo convenient not having excess cord hanging about, it clears up space, it’s safer and at the end you push it all the way in and it disappears from the benchtop. These little additions are what makes me love this machine. The aesthetic nature of it is classy and of solid build, a heavy 11kg with rubber grip at the base for added stability, and a steel chasse with all steel internal mechanics and springs to make it last longer than its competitors. Look forward to creating more savory things to really test that dough hook. Fyi the Breville stand mixer BEM8235 IS THE MODEL BEFORE THIS ONE. I have nothing to compare this to but overseeing my family and their use of the Kitchenaid, I see the Breville bakery boss 823 as a strong competitor. To some people, not having the extra power head for extra attachments( pasta maker, sifter or sausage maker) may be a deal breaker but those attachments are not worth paying the extra $400-500 more especially if the you rarely use them and also can be bought cheaper and separately or from the supermarket readymade.
