Gotten me a bit inspired – I've always wanted a fancy pants stand mixer, but seeing as I don't really do a huuuge amount of baking had trouble justifying the expense. Well now I'm doing a whole lot more, have even managed to produce some goodies that don't elicit eye-rolls from my teenagers. High accolades indeed. So am making a heap more. Usual stuff like brownies and… Read more
cupcakes. Soooo much easier making gingerbread with this, it used to kill my wrists and my hand mixer was of no use. Meringue is still something I'm trying to master, more research needed. Purely operator inexperience there though.
Christmas gingerbread house is amazing. We could all end up the size of actual houses if I keep going!!
It's quieter than I thought it would be, super easy to attach/detach the mixxy thingos (again, not a huge amount of baking in my history).
I love the handsfree-ness of it. Chuck the stuff in and let her do her magic. Cleans up like a dream.
I did struggle a bit using the guard thing that goes over the top to stop me spraying aerosolised flour all over my kitchen haha
Just loses a star because the melty softening feature didn't really work that well for me. I just gave up and bunged the butter in the microwave. Even the chocolate, went back to my old method of blasting it in 10 second bursts in the microwave.
Quiet, easy clean and smooth setup – Firstly when I saw the details on the mixer, I immediately wanted to try the melt/heat feature. I believe it would be great for making pastries and I was right in thinking so, as it made decent puff pastry with its heating element. The only issue I had was the heating wasn't as fast as I'd like, especially for the price of the product. Prior to… Read more
making cake mixtures etc I always setup appliances or equipment without going to the manual immediately, just to see how much ease it would be to setup. It was very easy to learn how the different mixer heads click on, the cover for spills was simple to attach alongside opening and lowering the mixer to change implements. The only aspect I'd say is disappointing is the lighting. It's quite dim and doesn't really make a huge difference unless you're going to be using the mixer in the dark! Originally we tried fudge brownies and I chose this as I wanted to use the melting option to soften the choc chips within the mixture. It was so quiet and mixed very smoothly. I then attempted to make cupcakes which turned out great! After each use, is where I dread using too many appliances due to the cleaning process. This mixer was great as the mixer implements just washed off without having any nooks to get stuck in. For the cost of product, I think it's a little too much for what this can do. However I have so much more recipes to use this for and I'm so excited as Christmas, my toddlers bday and new year's is coming where I'll be baking all through the holidays. Excited and hope this does well as so far it's input in the baked goods outcome has been positive and most of all great fun to use!
The best kitchen fun you’ll ever have! – Let’s start this review with the basic premise that I usually don’t bake a lot… well I didn’t before I got my new toy but I may have just found a new hobby. I had told my Mother in law that I was getting a Sunbeam Mixmaster. She said she had received one for a wedding present SIXTY YEARS AGO and she was still using it today!!! She loves her old… Read more · 1
school mixmaster. I love mine.
I thought, when I saw the features on it that they’d be a bit gimmicky and probably useless. I figured butter would take a year to soften and chocolate would take a similar period of time to melt. I was so pleasantly wrong! It’s fast! Butter softens in seconds to a minute and chocolate melts even faster. I was like- “no way!” But it does!
I’ve baked biscuits, pavlova and kneaded pizza dough and I’m thrilled with the way they all turned out.
The pizza dough was a bit rough on the machine- to be fair. It comes with a kneading arm so you’re lead to believe that it’s built for it but it struggles.
The dough turned out fine and was kneaded well and my poor old arms were saved from ten minutes of mindless kneading- but the machine walked almost right off the bench and the motor struggled based on the smell of overworked motor parts it was giving off.
It didn’t die though- it kept on kneading and my pizzas were a hit- as usual. I just wouldn’t leave it unattended while kneading for fear it’ll end up walking right off the bench and land on the floor.
I love the light that shines into the bowl so you know what’s going on in there. I love the soften and melt functions. I love the stainless steel bowl and the number of different mixing arms it comes with and I love what it spits out at the other end.
I’ll update you in sixty years time to let you know if it’s been made as sturdy as the Mother in law’s!
Awesome! – I got this mixer after my old hand held one died. I've always wanted a table based mixer so that my hands are free while cooking. Upon opening the box and going through the booklet we realised we were missing the spatula attachment. I emailed both Sunbeam and Product Review and was later told by Sunbeam to take it back to the place I bought it… Read more · 1
as there were no spare parts available at all. Anywhere in the country. A day later I got a reply from the company again offering their photography prop spatula if I wanted it. Something I was super grateful for because in order to thoroughly test the machine and make more than half my recipes (esp for Christmas) I needed to use that spatula piece. Within 2 days I got a courier notification and the piece arrived at my doorstep as predicted in perfect condition.
So, on with the review :)
Things I like: - SUPER fast wipping of eggs, it makes mirangue in next to no time. At least 5 mins faster than any mixer i've ever had. We had ours ready to go in under 3 minutes from start to finish! - Easy to clean - Easy to attach all the little attachments - It kneeds well and evenly and makes great breads -The spatula addition works as desired and really scrapes all the sides and bottom so that any batters are evenly mixed and there are no lumpy bits stuck to the sides of the bowl. - The "melt" and "heat" functions melt cold butter and chocolate extremely well, and evenly. Again- with no lumpy bits and no over cooking of chocolate. - I like that its white and stainless steel, it blends in nicely with our kitchen and isn't ugly to look at. - No annoying cords to fumble over like a hand mixer has and you don't need 2 hands holding the bowl and the mixer to blend cake batters etc. - Dishwasher safe is a massive +. It's so easy and effortless to just throw all the pieces into the dishwasher once i'm done. But similarly too- if I need to re-use parts they all rinse up really quickly and easily ready to be used again. Even super sticky honey based sauces/blends wash off really easily- a lot easier than I was expecting them to and for some reason, easier than my old hand held beaters. - The overall machine even with bowl attached isn't too big or too heavy. Makes it easier and less risky for people like me who need to get it out of a high up cupboard. - The machine comes with all the attachments you'll need -It comes with a great recipe book! The recipes are easy to follow and make great dishes. We did however need to add some water to the foccacia recipe though, the dough was just too firm and not coming together as it should be.(This could be an issue with my sachet yeast though, moreso than the recipe) The rest of the recipes are fantastic and make super yummy food. They're also not overly involved so you get yummy treats without slaving away in the kitchen all day. - I LOVE the little pooring funnely/guard piece that allows you to poor ingredients in while its going without having to stop the machine or try and squeeze the bowl or bottle you're pooring from between the bowl and the machine. The funnel is lovely and wide and allows even stuff like flours to fall into the mixing bowl with ease. - Love that the wisk is a big rounded one that stops food getting stuck inside because the wires are spaced evenly enough apart to allow it out again, this gives a better mixed batter. Even when it has nobbly bits in it eg choc chips and or nuts. - The machine and all parts feel study and well constructed. -The machine part wipes clean very easily. - The buttons on the sides for "melt" and "heat" are easy to use and understand, and the heating function gives an even heat without burning the ingredients in the bowl. - The lever to lift the machine out of the bowl is very easy to use and can be done single handedly. - The bowl part is lovely and deep and a really good size. It allows me to make double batches of things like muffins/cupcakes and brownies etc and doesn't overflow or get food stuck up to the sides (because the spatula park scrapes the whole bowl)
Things that could be better: - Its LOUD on high speeds. - When mixing bread dough, the machine sounded like the motor was working pretty hard. The machines body was moving a lot as it was kneeding. Thankfully though, not enough to make it walk off the bench or anything, but it just sounded like it was working really hard. Compared with what it sounds like when mixing softer ingredients. - The cord could use to be a smidge longer, but I think this is moreso of a "me issue" as I have a large kitchen and its a long distance between power points.
Overall I'm thoroughly impressed with this mixer and will happily reccommend it to all my cooking/baking friends. If anything goes majorly wrong with it, I will also come back and add it to the review. This isn't something I foresee happening though, she's made very well!

Impressive design; making cakes is a dream – First impressions. Packed and presented well in box. Would make for a great gift as well as own purchase. Careful when unpacking as one accessory is packed in the outside of the cardboard shell. We also have a brand name mixer which cost much more and we recommend the Sunbeam Planetary mixer as the first and best choice. At 6 kg it is half the… Read more · 1
weight of some mixers. That and under the front base it's designed for you to reach in and grab it, making it much easier to move. Despite being lighter it feels really well made and a quality build.
The metal finishes are extremely pleasing and the copper accents finish it really well.
10 speeds for mixing and we found they were all useful; from mixing ingredients through to whipping cream. There is an inbuilt light to also make it easy to check what's going on.
Softening butter and melting chocolate both work surprisingly fast and really well. I would set up the mixer while working on other parts of the recipe and it would be done and ready before I knew it. It also wouldn't be overcooked; way different to me putting chocolate in the pot on low and leaving that on (which melted then dried out the chocolate).
Chocolate and cherry cheesecake turned out really well, as the pictures show. To make sure of the results I made two cherry cheesecakes. They were very nice :)
A great feature for packing up is, all the accessories can be stored in the bowl. I recommend taking all accessories out of the mounts and putting them together loose.
The way the head can be locked in the open position is very good.
In summary: - moving it around the kitchen bench is so much easier - great looking design - storage after use is well thought out - does a great job melting chocolate and softening butter - saved some dishes where the softened butter was mixed immediately with other ingredients - we like using it a lot - we would recommend the Sunbeam Heatsoft Planetary Mixer
I do get to keep the review model no matter what I write. So I am very lucky to have been sent such a nice mixer to review. :)

A good mixer with extra (maybe unnecessary additional features) – I was excited to use this mixer, having used a hand mixer my whole baking life. I decided to make a cake that I have made many times before so as to really be able to compare the results. I made a Farmhouse Orange Cake because it requires 2 seperate lots of mixing so I thought it would be a good test. The first thing I usually do is soften… Read more · 1
the butter - normally I do it in the microwave as it has a setting for exactly that. This mixer has that setting so away I went, skipping the microwave step completely. It didn't even take a minute until the butter had softened to where it should be. The overall cake batter seemed to be as smooth as it normally is without the work of the hand mixer. It was nice to be able to start cleaning up while the batter mixed. The only thing I would have preferred is if the bowl was glass. I borrowed a friends mixer once that had a glass bowl and I could look over and see exactly how the mixing was going - with this stainless steel bowl, I kept having to go over and peer in to see what was happening. The second round of mixing was for the icing and it was relatively fast, including softening the butter again and it was nice and smooth. I did notice there is a "dry" spot on the beater attachment that seems to never make contact with the batter (see photos). When the flour went in, it obviously coats everything and I saw that no matter how long I mixed for there is a patch of dry flour stuck on the beater that just never came off. There is also a "Melt" feature which is promoted as being great for melting chocolate. This may be so, but I dont have any recipes that have melted chocolate in the batter and have had a look at a few recipe sites and couldn't find any there either. This means the melted chocolate would be for frostings, ganache etc. I don't really think, after making the cake batter, washing up the bowl and utensils, wiping down the machine etc, that I would be dirtying it again, just to melt some chocolate which is very easily done in either the microwave or in a saucepan on the cooktop, so I think this feature is a bit of a gimmick. I also found it seems to be quite easy to accidently lock the bowl in incorrectly and when I had done that, I had to wait for my husband to come home and use his brute strength to unlock it which might be an issue for some people. Anyway, the cake had turned out the same as it always does without as much effort. The bowl and attachments were easy to wash up. I expect I will be baking even more regularly than I have been now that the tediousness of using a hand mixer is not my only option. Now I have to find a cupboard to keep it in.
UPDATE- so I have had this mixer for a couple of months now and I am enjoying using it. No issues or faults so far and seems to be made well so don't really expect to have any. I do like the butter softening feature as it's a separate step I don't need to do when baking. The chocolate melting feature still doesn't excite me and I haven't found recipe where I would use it - to be completely honest though, I am not a fan of things like chocolate cakes, muffins, brownies etc so my chocolate use in baking would be limited to icing's etc. This means that I would have to dirty my mixer again just to melt chocolate which seems silly when I can easily do it in the microwave.
Overall, I think this is a great machine and I am really impressed by how well the blade scrapes the bowl - it really leaves nothing behind. If you are in the market for a stand mixer, I would recommend having a goof look at this one.
It can melt chocolate! Absolute game changer! – I was lucky enough to win a sunbeam heatsoft planetary mixer and I was immediately impressed by the heat buttons. It can melt butter and chocolate in minutes without having to use the microwave or double boiler! It honestly saved me so much time on washing up and the mixing results were 10/10! My brownie batter came out silky smooth and it is now my new favourite appliance. Show reply
