Still going strong as my secondary body – I still use my 50D as my secondary shooting body. For many years it's proven reliable and hasn't caused me any problems at all. I bought the camera from Camera Warehouse over 5 years ago now and no nothing but praise for Canon - even after trying Nikon and Sony for a while. Show details
Still on par with its predecessors today man!!! – This camera is a must have, with a 15.1 Megapixel resolution. It has Magnesium alloy body that is way durable than your plastic 550D,600D,650D cameras. It comes with a high resolution 3 inch LCD. It still a good contender to its predecessors 60D,7D and 6D. Thanks to Magic Lantern," a canon hack that is downloaded and operated to your SD/CF cards",… Read more
it enabled the video capability once impossible with the 50D. Magic Lantern supported, 15.1 Megapixel, high resolution, Magnesium alloy body No video capabilities without Magic Lantern,
Great first SLR camera – I bought my Canon 50d about 2 years ago and have found it great for a first SLR camera. I found it got dirt inside the viewfinder easily, which I had to get professionally cleaned. I love the range of lenses available, and the quality of the photos compared to my normal camera. The quality of images Cost, weight, no video camera
Apalling service for a rare defective example from Canon Australia representatives – I have written about this before. If you buy Canon DSLR, be sure that the particular piece of equipment you buy is in good order. Youll have NO support from Canon Australia. I am an engineer. Even after showed them test results showing that the camera had seriously diminished resolution, they tried to deny there was no fault in the Canon 50D… Read more
body.
They said they had conducted tests and found nothing wrong.
I asked for the st results, but they could not.
They were incompetent and dishonest. Sometimes works well. Inconsistent resolution, awful supplier.
Great Prosumer DSLR – Having a full magnesium housing the 50D feels very solid and sturdy compared to the cheaper 500,550,600d etc. The interface and controls are logical and simple to use which is great for any first time DSLR user. A fiend of mine has a Nikon D90 which seems to take a lot longer to setup and "tune" than the canon. In terms of image quality the… Read more
canon is great in good light with better colour and contrast than the Nikon equivalents. In low light the 50D does not perform so well at higher ISO's, especially compared to the Nikon D90/D7000 which do a great job.
With regard to focus the 50D is just OK. It seems to struggle with focus a little in low light. I tend to use manual focus on most lenses when indoors,or at night time etc.
Other Features
If you are a keen sports shooter than you will find the 6fps burst mode very useful.
The camera also supports live view which can be very useful for portraits and macro photography where it can b difficult to see the actual focus point through the view finder.
The 50D uses Compact flash cards which are more sturdy than SD cards and fairly affordable. Solid quality feel, ease of use, battery life, 16 Megapixel sensor, 6fps burst mode, lIve View auto focus not as good as nikon, noise at high ISO, no video may be a eal breaker for some.
Good – A great camera, perfect for someone wanting to get into photography or as a weekend hobbyist. Had I known how easy it was to use I would have ignored the simple digital cameras and gone straight for this one! I love the option of buying different lenses for it, and makes it an exciting experience all over again, challenging yourself to new and… Read more
inspiring shots. Affordable DSLR, easy to use for a novice. Option of full auto or manual or a bit of both. Instructions for use are clear. A massive range of lenses that suit, and a huge range of other branded lenses that also work beautifully with it. I found the accessories easy to find and purchase also. Weight, not that I have anything decent to compare to as my last was a simple digital camera.
Excellent – 50D is one of the best cameras around in the market currently. However you will need good lens to bring out the best of the camera. Don't bother getting the camera with kits lens, waste of money and you will be disappointed. I recently discovered the camera comes with lens micro-adjustment feature. I wanted to get Sigma 50mm 1.4, however the… Read more
only weakness of this lens is back focus. Canon 50D able to solve this issue with lens micro adjustment. I can shoot beautifully with it now. Picture quality: Super clear and high definition. Rich in colour. Ease of use: Super user friendly and innovative. It took me only 3 months to master all features. Built quality: Superb, feels steady and hardy. Probably not full frame? But I can't be bothered because I always love the "sweet spot" effect from APS camera. Also I'm fine with 50d without video feature. Shooting video with 7D is not as easy as one thought, you need to be very good with manual focus: fast, accurate and skilled.
Excellent – It takes a bit of learning to drive the camers and its features are amazing but you must take the time to sit down and read the book and find out how the features work, its worth it. The start up time is unbeatable and the burst of photos is good... as i say take the time to read the book as some features are a bit tricky to find how or where to… Read more
opperate from, some from the top LCD display some from the back. The flash opperation is quick but has a but of trouble for the photo bursts. But an excelent camera and worth the money What can I say.... excelent all round camera. I baught body only as i had lenses for my 35mm camera. It takes an excelent photo and has brilliant colours on the 3" rear screen The only thing i disliked about the camera was the weight especially when you ad a larger zoom lense.
