Didnt get to the move. Over the phone we were told we were looking at about $6000 due to Canberra to Newcastle move. Requested a quote. When quoter was over an hour late, we rang to chase up. We were given quoter's number for us to chase up. When he finally arrived he was accompanied by a young girl who looked like his girlfriend. She looked as though she had just gotten out of bed. It was 2pm. Given her appearance, I asked her did she work for CAPITAL, as she walked around my house. Told no, but she helps out quoter on his truck som...etimes. I rang CAPITAL'S office and discussed the unprofessionalism of their employee bringing his girlfriend. The admin person I spoke to couldnt see anything wrong with it, so I asked for manager's name. He refused to give it to me, saying manager would ring me back. No response. I doubt if my complaint was ever passed on to management. After reading the many poor reviews of this company on Product Review, I am so glad we dodged this bullet. In the end got a much better quote and saved heaps as well as peace of mind.
Unprofessional management, beware of hidden costs
Very disappointed. We were charged a $100 call out fee that was never communicated. When I questioned the charge at time to pay the owner basically told me I must have misunderstood. No email or text to confirm booking. When I called to confirm I was basically told "We do 50 moves a week and never miss any". No confirmation was ever sent. Day of the move, movers did call to apologise they'd be late because they'd only learnt about the job the night before and needed to get packing materials. I know moving is a tough job but at times it felt li...ke the movers were dragging their feet. Was told on average a 3 bedroom move takes 5 hours . It ended up taking 7.5 hours. I was told a large truck would be supplied but a small truck was used requiring two loads. We were fairly organised with what we needed moved...primarily large furniture. The team did pack our kitchen which took about 3 hours...it was a small kitchen (total of 8 boxes). We also did a lot of our own moving....all our clothes, electronics and small bits and pieces. The movers themselves were very careful with our furniture and nice enough guys so happy with that but overall would not recommend this company.
Unprofessional, unpleasant experience
Booked for packing and removal, one day each, of a 3-bedroom house to a location that was about a 25 minute drive away. Booking was made 3-4 weeks in advance, and no reminder or confirmation was given closer to the date. Tried unsuccessfully to contact the company during the week before the move to reconfirm. On the first day that was allocated for packing, received a phone call in the morning to say the removalist would arrive in about an hour. About an hour after the first removalist arrived, a second person arrived to assist. The packing wa...s done in an unprofessional manner, e.g. using teeth to tear the packing tape, underpacking heavy boxes then stacking them on top of each other, which resulted in sagging and potential damage to contents. Boxes were taped up in a slipshod manner. Unnecessary packing was done, e.g. individually wrapping up plastic container lids. On the second day, when the actual move was done, the truck was too small to move the contents in one trip. So a second trip was done to move a few items which took up little room in the truck. The interior of the truck looked old, blankets were old and piling, little care was taken in the lifting and packing of items into the truck. Removalists didn't seem adept at navigating furniture around door frames. Furniture was damaged and dented, a mirror was broken, marks were left on floors and walls. Payment was expected without invoice, had to insist that an invoice was provided. Overall, a bad experience and would not use again.
Worst removalist I've ever used.
Turned up an hour late with no explanation or apology. Wouldn't answer the phone which made it more stressful, waiting and wondering. They were rough and careless (damaged several pieces of furniture and walls and doors at my new house), but they were also incredibly slow (paid by the hour, of course). Finally got one hour deducted from the bill, but that was after receiving rude and threatening emails from their Accounts Manager. I was liaising with this person about a reduced payment and one email he sends me says, "........the guys (who did the move) haven't been paid.......they will come to your house tomorrow to discuss". Seriously!
Worst Move I have ever Done
3 bed house move across 2 suburbs, very stressful move, booked them 2 weeks in advance, got a text the night before at 10:30pm postponing the move, rang the driver in the am - he "kindly" agreed to turn up - late. Truck had no lift or a ramp and one trolley - blokes were were nice, but rough with my furniture and in no hurry. They "forgot" they had to move my piano, were going to get it later with another truck, rang them and stopped them as I found out they were just going back with the same truck and were going to dead lift it on its back t...o get it on the truck - basically no care or responsibility. At end of move got a much higher price from the driver than what I was quoted, rang the office multiple times got another price, not as high as the drivers price, but still more than quoted. Overall a very stressful experience with a number of damaged items. Office very hard to contact and don't care.
Every piece of furniture was damaged
Capital removers turned up late and smelling like weed. They damaged every single piece of furniture they moved. They complained the whole time and then in the end argued and about the price and demanded more money. It was a terrible experience. Do not use them!!!! Find someone else.
A pack of crooks – worst moving experience ever.
I sincerely hope that anybody reading this takes note. Please steer well clear of this dodgy “company”. It’s simply not worth the trouble. In the spirit of good storytelling, I’ll describe our day from hell. To be fair the job started reasonably well. I personally thought they were a bit slow taking our things down to the truck but I’ll happily put that in the category of “first world problems”.
After about an hour, I suddenly heard a commotion outside. One of the movers had gotten into an argument with my neighbour over their use of the fire d...
We needed to move our household items due to conducting significant renovations at our home. We have a 4 bedroom house but with lots of narrow stairways. The Removalists were very professional, friendly, polite and accommodating. We would definitely use them again.
Worst removal experience to date.
Moved from Denman Prospect to Karabar. 3 hours late, severely undersized truck meaning 7 trips in a Ute to finish move. Multiple items damaged including custom artwork. Bad customer service afterwards, submitted complaint, rude response and then nothing. Still no resolution. Absolutely disgusted. Will be lodging with ACCC.
Would not recommend
3 bedroom house with full garage and lots of outdoor furniture.
They arrived 2 hours late in a tiny truck. Progress seemed very slow and in all it took 9 hours and 2 trips for the job to not be completed. They also backed the truck up into 2 trees at the new house and broke a light fitting in our stairwell.
I was also asked to pay immediately at the completion of the job, something that had not been communicated at all prior
A no fuss move with very polite staff
I used Capital Removals for my move on Sunday in Canberra. The access for the move was very tight but the removalists did the job with a smile. The conditions outside were not favourable either with heavy rain but again the 2 removalists did it all with a smile and completed the job in quick timing. Thank you Capital Removals.
We had 10 Heavy/bulky items to move from Braddon to Belconnen, all furniture emptied and prepared for move. List included a 2 seat recliner, medium fridge, front loader washing machine, small Chinese medicine cabinet, queen mattress, low entertainment unit, outdoor bench, Ikea 4 x 4 cube, Ikea island bench and a blanket box.
The move was for a short distance from the city to Belconnen, about a 15 min drive.
We thought maybe 2.5 max 3 hours in total, as the only difficult item was the 2 seat electric recliner, which ended up being able to be dis...
What a great experience!!
We shopped around and chose Capital Removal because the owner on the phone was very polite and accommodating. Some other companies had overseas call centres which is a deterrent. We booked in to move our 5 bedroom house from Curtin to Farrer. On the day of the move we had packed a lot less than we anticipated which made the job for the removalists. I rang the owner a bit stressed to tell him of this and straight away he reassured me this wasn't an issue and that his team on the ground would do it all. We were sent a large truck and 3 men who did everything without even one issue. Moving house is never fun, but the guys at Capital Removal made the experience perfect.
A shocker. Don’t be fooled
As I see it, we were offered a service that did not meet any of the agreed requirements. 5 bedroom house + sheds from Canberra to the coast.
Full uplift of our goods was not provided on the agreed date and full delivery was not provided on the agreed date.
While the service team were polite and friendly, they were never able to arrive or deliver items on time, or even on the newly scheduled times.
They arrived on the day of uplift without enough vehicles to effect a full uplift.
They arrived at the premises on the day of delivery very late, a...
A Truly Awful Experience
I rang and got a quote for moving out of a share house (not even 2 full rooms of furniture and belongings) and was booked in. At 10pm the night before the move was scheduled I received a text to say that they had been tied up in a large job and would come @ 4pm the next day. 3:55pm the next day I received another text to reschedule AGAIN as they had again misjudged how long other jobs would take. In the end I was forced to find other means to move as I could not wait. This service, or lack thereof, made my move ten times more stressful than it needed to be.
Very smooth and professional process
4 bedroom and large rumpus room, as well as a home office in the granny flat. We moved from Red Hill to Yarralumla. The company was good from start to finish, highly recommended.
A surprise quote increase at time of move
I was luckier than other reviewers, the removal guys were great. They arrived early and were efficient and professional. It took the estimated time. However when they arrived one of the guys called to say that his boss wanted to check it was ok that an extra $110 would be added to the quote because of a third person to help with the move. I hadn’t requested any specific nr of people, I’d been quoted based on the estimated time to move large furniture for a 1 bedroom apartment from Braddon to Phillip. The boss would have known you don’t have many options but to say yes, who can get a removalist last minute. Either the boss is bad at estimating the move time or is a scammer who uses this tactic to get you to book based on original quote
I have used this company in the past, we found them professional. On that occasion we moved next door, no truck required, they only had to move the heavy furniture, dismantled and reassemble a couple of items of furniture. We had 4 people on this occasion and it took about 2 hours. Although they were a little late, it did not make a huge impact. On the day they put a dent into my fridge and after a couple of days we realised they had knicked a piece of our mahogany desk. Too late to do anything.
Despite this we decided to pick this removali...st for our resent move. What a mistake that was. We asked for a quote for packing and moving. We were given a quote that was not cheap, and accepted it as we were happy with our previous move. Firstly, the days of packing I was called and informed that they would not becoming at 1pm as expected, but 4pm. I was also informed that the packing equipment they actually had was totally inadequate and I had to go and purchase most of the boxes and packing material. The estimate of material was also inadequate and I had to go a second time to purchase further material during the packing.
Incompetent & unprofessional - damaged my items, took 8 hours instead of 4
My disappointment at being compelled to give this company as much as 1 star is only exceeded by my exasperation, frustration and disgust at the way this company handled my move.
I moved a small, 3 bedroom house of furnishings (100m2 house) less than 10kms, I estimated that I had 30 metres of belongings (based on previous quotes) and I was advised that I would be provided with 3 men and a truck with an estimated move time of 4 hours.
When I made the booking I advised that I had a Sleep Number bed, I asked if they had experience in moving one...
Terrible customer service - avoid at all costs
I would strongly recommend against using them. The gentlemen who moved my things were nice but they were careless with my belongings, scratched my furniture and my fridge, lost parts of lamps, put a hole in the wall of the apartment I was leaving, took the padlock off the storage unit, got lost on the way to the house but included that time in the final invoice. They at least were reasonable and polite when I raised the issues with them unlike the management. That’s the reason I felt compelled to write this negative review. I passed along my ex...periences to their management via email and have never had such a disgraceful, unprofessional response. I didn’t honestly expect much more than an apology to be honest, but I expected a least a little conciliatory interactions. Instead I was scolded, accused of lying, berated for it being a Sunday (he called me), demanded what I expected from them. Just outright rudeness. I had waived the extra insurance but when I pointed out that the damage had happened during transit which was covered, I was treated to a weak explanation that this means accidents or fire. None of this ‘fine’ print was in the email correspondence or on their website. If you hire someone to do a job, you should expect them to do a reasonable job without having to spend hundreds of dollars on additional insurance. If you hire a painter to paint your ceiling, you don’t have to take insurance out to ensure they don’t paint your car by accident. He finally said he would contact me during business hours before fobbing it off on one of the employees who tried to call me once though I followed up at least three times afterwards. I've not heard from them since! All in all, a very disappointing experience.
