 AI reviews summary

Feedback for Holloway Removals & Storage indicates a sharp divide in customer experience. While many users report efficient, professional service from specific onsite teams, a significant volume of reviews reveals critical failures in logistics, billing transparency, and post-service dispute resolution.

Pros
Exceptional Onsite Staff: Numerous users highlight specific team members (e.g., Maria, Ananda, Paul, and Daniel) for being polite, hardworking, and resourceful in difficult moving conditions.
Efficient Packing Services: The specialised packing teams are frequently praised for their speed, organisation, and ability to handle sentimental or fragile items with care.
Effective Communication (Sales Phase): The initial quoting and booking process is often described as smooth, with sales representatives providing helpful video walkthroughs and clear initial contact.
Flexibility with Difficult Access: Several reviews note the team's ability to navigate narrow streets, steep stairs, and high-rise apartments successfully.
Cons
Billing and Quote Discrepancies: There are frequent reports of final invoices significantly exceeding quotes due to hidden travel fees, unexpected surcharges, and "back to base" charges that were not clearly disclosed.
Inconsistent Pace and Delays: Multiple users complain about movers working "painfully slow" to inflate hourly costs, arriving hours or days late, or failing to show up at the confirmed time.
Negligent Handling and Damage: Recurring reports describe catastrophic damage to furniture and property, including mould in storage containers, broken electronics, and filthy marks on upholstery.
Poor Dispute Resolution: Customers consistently flag a lack of accountability from management, describing being "ghosted" when seeking compensation or receiving insulting settlement offers for damaged goods.
Verdict

The quality of service appears highly dependent on the specific crew assigned, with experiences ranging from seamless and professional to logistically disastrous. Prospective customers should be wary of the hourly billing model and should demand a comprehensive written breakdown of all travel and "call-out" fees to avoid significant post-move price hikes.

A big thank you to Martyn B, Anju and team at Holloway! My mum recommended Holloway to me and I can say that my experience was also great. Moving isn't easy but with this team I could not have been happier. Two trucks, 6 modules for a large 4 bedroom home with 4 team on site. The rates were competitive for pick up, storage and return and there… Read more ·  1

was nothing damaged or broken whilst in storage for a year. Easy monthly payment for storage made it easy to budget. The pick up went very smoothly 12 months ago and the delivery was also seamless. It was efficient and the delivery team were wiry and strong! No bumps or damage to my house either. Not one. Each item was placed exactly where I wanted in the home. I was also provided brilliant support from Martyn B at the office in preparation for the return of my goods. I would use them with confidence again.

5 Karl  · On time for pick up and delivery Great care taken with our furniture. No damage to anything travelling from Victoria to Western Australia
5 JRA  · Great experience! Friendly staff, flexible about your moving circumstances and they care about your things. Fully recommend.
5 Natalie P  · Very good experience with packers Maria, Emylin & Ananda. They were friendly & efficient.
1 EdW  · Do not recommend. Apartment move, storage. Overpriced, unreliable, bad communication.
5 Steph  · Paul and Daniel were fantastic! They were both methodical, careful and efficient
5 David  · The team were punctual, were good communicators and careful with the furniture and the place we moved out of and into. I would recommend them.

A delicate move back in of remaining bulky heavy furniture onto freshly restored floorboards of a small Queenslander with a narrow corridor. Would not recommend this company, changed dates and times consistently, called an hour before business close and advised they could not pick up our belongings and eventually came after 7:30pm. Admitted Negligence, Ruined Belongings, and Predatory Tactics – AVOID HOLLOWAY *** If I could give zero stars, I would. We trusted Holloway Removals & Storage to store our belongings for nine months. Instead of an exciting move-in day to our new home, Holloway delivered a complete nightmare. Admitted Negligence: When they opened our container,… Read more

we were hit with an overwhelming stench of mould. The shipping container had a large hole in the side. Management later admitted they caused this hole while carelessly moving containers in their yard, leaving our possessions exposed to the elements for months without checking.

Catastrophic Damage: Black mould and water destroyed over $20,000 worth of our property. Mattresses, sofas, antique furniture, and irreplaceable sentimental items (like framed art and a handmade wooden flute) were completely ruined. Cardboard boxes were so rotten that our KitchenAid fell straight through the bottom and smashed. We had to send half a truckload straight back.

Appalling Customer Service: We were left in an empty apartment with absolutely no furniture—not even a mattress. Instead of offering emergency guidance, our account manager ghosted our calls. We had to rely on family to put us up.

Financial Insult: We paid Holloway $3,733 in storage fees over nine months to destroy our property. While we were displaced, their accounts department had the audacity to send us an invoice for $1,890 for the "delivery" of our ruined goods, and chased us for a final $133 storage fee.

Predatory Ultimatum: Despite admitting fault, they initially offered an insulting $8,500 settlement, backing us into a corner to either take the lowball offer or fight their insurance. After weeks of stress and seeking legal advice, they bumped it to $12k but flat-out refused to refund the $3,733 we paid them in storage fees.

Do not trust Holloway with your belongings. The physical loss was devastating, but their sheer negligence, corporate greed, and refusal to take real accountability are unforgivable.

Avoid Holloway: They break your items and then ghost you. I am beyond frustrated with the service provided by Holloway. What started with a professional pre-inspection by [Name Removed], who promised a successful move for a $270 call-out fee, has devolved into a total nightmare. We are left with: Property Damage: Our lead removalist, [Name… Read more

Removed], photographed our working TV before the move. Post-move, it is dead. Additionally, a rushed bed assembly resulted in the bed collapsing just two days later.

Financial Exploitation: We were overcharged because the job ran past office hours. We were promised a refund for this extra amount, but that promise has been completely ignored.

Zero Accountability: We have spent days chasing a resolution. Every time we call, we are told a "ticket has been raised," yet we receive no emails, no calls, and no progress.

We aren't interested in blaming the individuals on the day—accidents happen. However, the post-service resolution is non-existent. Holloway has taken our money, broken our furniture, and is now effectively ghosting us. This is unprofessional, dishonest, and has caused us immense anxiety.

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR BELONGINGS.

We had an absolutely appalling experience with Holloway Removals & Storage and I would strongly warn against anyone considering using them. Based on the other reviews on this platform, our experience does not appear to be unique. During our move from the eastern beaches in Sydney to Queensland, the Holloway team’s negligence resulted in… Read more

significant damage and loss to our belongings. For example: The back of our three-month-old electric nursing chair (worth over $1,100) was left on the street in Sydney. This was not discovered until our belongings were being unpacked in Queensland. A wool rug worth over $1,200 was completely destroyed due to improper packing. A lamp set costing more than $900 was dropped and shattered. In addition, our fridge was damaged, along with other items from our home. This damage was the direct result of astonishingly poor handling and a complete lack of professional care. Holloway has taken zero responsibility or accountability for what occurred. Throughout our dealings with them, the customer service representative has been dismissive and, at times, borderline aggressive in their handling of our claim. There has been no genuine contrition, no meaningful apology, and no indication that they accept the seriousness of the damage caused. The standard of customer service we have received has been absolutely appalling. After weeks of emails, Holloway finally allowed us to submit a claim for the damage caused to our belongings. However, after submitting a claim for losses exceeding $5,000 (which was supported by photographs and purchase receipts), they responded with a total offer of just $656.81, relying on a so-called “depreciation” calculation. They have attempted to characterise the destruction of multiple high-value items as “minor damage” (even though some of our belongings were left in Sydney or destroyed). What is particularly concerning is that their response also included a request suggesting we consider revisiting or removing any negative reviews if we felt they had treated us fairly. To suggest that this offer represents “fair treatment” is actually offensive. In good faith, we had deliberately held off posting any review while this claim was being assessed, expecting that we would be reasonably compensated for our loss. That expectation has clearly not been met. The combination of negligent handling of our belongings and an equally dismissive, unaccountable response afterward speaks volumes about this company’s standards. We have rejected their offer and are now proceeding with formal complaints through the appropriate channels. If you value your possessions — or even basic professionalism — I would strongly caution against trusting Holloway with your move. The risk is simply not worth it.

100% would recommend Holloway Removals & Storage – I cannot highly recommend Holloway Removals enough! Felipe, Alex, and Hector called me as soon as they left the depot to let me know an ETA. driveway, so we quickly improvised parking across my neighbors garages (which I had cleared with the neighbors) and the boys set off to work.

I've never seen a house get emptied so fast. In the past, I've had removalists take breaks or text the entire day. Not these guys! By 10:00, the boxes were all carefully packed away in the truck (Alex was a whiz with packing the container as full as possible), and we were onto the big pieces of furniture.

Then mother nature set in. At first, it was just a little 5 minute downpour. The boys worked right through this. But just after 11:00 the heavens opened up and you couldn't step outside without getting soaked to the bones. This slowed things down a lot because the boys had to be extra careful on the steps and ramps and take time to dry things off once they reached the truck (wipe the water off the plastic wrap they put on the items).

Around 12:00 I went to see if I could get anything for the boys and I found them in the storage container, rearranging a few items and trying to warm up. They explained they were giving the weather a few minutes to lighten up (which was 100% the correct thing to do). About 10 minutes later, the rain and wind died down a little and the boys were back to their nearly running pace emptying the house of the last few items.

Once the house was empty, they set in on the garage and were making progress when the rain and wind returned. I told the boys to come into the house to warm up and try to let the weather calm down. They wouldn't have any of it and said, "We got this!". With a last 20 minute push, the garage was empty and the move was complete.

The boys were absolute legends. There was never a wasted trip. They saw one of my pieces of Ikea furniture and said, "I don't think this will survive the move assembled." They went on to grab other things while my partner and I disassembled the wardrobe and just as soon as we were done disassembling the thing the boys were grabbing the pieces and taking them to the container. All of our items were handled with the appropriate care (the boys even found a lamp I forgot about and assembled a box to put the shade in, making sure to wrap the bulb). The only casualty of the day was the $20 turntable to our microwave. It was placed in a blanket and there was a miscommunication and the blanket was moved before it could be secured. Considering how many items the boys moved, this is the smallest of inconveniences. I've had more damage done by every other removalist in the past. This was by far the biggest, most complex move I've ever undertaken and the boys absolutely aced it.

Showing the courtesy and professionalism that the boys have, they each asked if they could use the restroom. My restroom is open for anybody to use, but the fact that they asked just showed how they have all the little details covered, which means the big stuff will fall right into place.

My move was from a 3 bedroom into storage (about 80% of the items). I had predicted 6-8 hours based on past experience. Even with the rain, the boys were done in little over 5 hours. I have no doubt this would have been a 4 hour job if the weather had cooperated. If this had been any other company, it could easily have turned into a 10 hour job given the rain and distance to the container from the house. I can't get over how smoothly the whole day went, even with the hurdles.

Follow-up  · 2 years later we had the items delivered to our new apartment. The workers were just as friendly and worked as efficiently as possible to get everything into the new apartment. They were done in less than 2 hours, and that involved a lot of trips in the tiny elevator. All the items were in the state we left them. The only 3 things we did was… Read more

unprofessional in the way they moved things to the truck, had to be constantly asked to wrap things like mattresses or protect furniture, were unable to dismantle anything (we had to do it all ourselves). We complained to head office during the move about what was happening but had only 2 hours refunded (1hour for the lunch break they charged us for). Overall they didn’t help us much on the day we had to get 4 family members to help or we would not have finished on the day. Totally disgusted with the day. Our complaint resulted in a 2 hours refund (one hour which was for the lunch break they took). Completely unacceptable to us. I asked how the came to this outcome but they have not responded.

Professional removalists who are professional every step of the process- from responding to my enquiry with 1 day's notice, to quoting, signing of contract, to giving me an estimated time of pickup, wrapping of furniture including glass cabinets, to delivery into the house in another state. I will use Holloway again.

Follow-up  · All the items were safely delivered. I tried to book Holloway again but due to the timing, it was more pricey than the last time. It is worth booking Back Loads during off season and in the middle of the week when work is quieter.

Their hourly rate charges for domestic removals is a fraud. The crew stalls and waste time so that they can charge more, five hours at $290 per hour in my case. They charge $80 for Toll. They aren't willing to compensate properly for damages.

AVOID! Worst experience I've ever had moving in Sydney. If you are looking for a Sydney Removalist who will do a professional job, not just a professional quote - Look elsewhere, because Holloway Removalist is not it! They only show respect for you in procuring your business, they show Zero respect during the move, zero after it's done and zero… Read more

in dealing with complaints. You and your belongings deserve better than Holloway Removals

They are wonderful in securing your business and will stop at nothing to make you feel ready & prepared. This is where it all stops.

OUR EXPERIENCE: The removalists were determined to go as slow as humanly possible taking small single items one a at a time. They shifted the truck to the rear laneway and insistent in taking large bulky items through narrow staircases (against advice and direction to not do so) - when easy, stepless access was available - they did this to deliberately slow down the move. It also caused significant damage to both our items and the property. (a point we repeatedly told them)

The Customer service agents said they can and will dismantle furniture. They got 2 hours into their move and told us they don't do this - which we then had to do whilst they hang around. They were selective in what they did and didn't dismantle - and when they did, they lost screws and when putting it back together did so without the critical components - and said 'Job Done'

They also packed the truck in such an inefficient way that they stated they needed 2 trips - adding at least another 2 hours - add this to the over 30 toilet breaks, being on their phone the whole time and talking behind our backs in Portuguese (yes, a friend could translate what you were saying).

In total, we had several pieces of furniture ruined, including a fridge, plus damage caused to the property we were leaving. Dealing with customer service agents for compensation is the opposite to when they are trying to secure your business - 3 weeks on - no refunds.

It's easy to look elsewhere - you'll save time, money and stress!

I used Holloway Removals for a recent 2-bedroom apartment move. On the day, the team was excellent. They were on time, professional, friendly, and everything was handled carefully with no damage. locations. However, the final invoice included both the call-out fee and a full hour of travel charged as labour.

In total, I paid $1,538, which included both charges. In my experience with multiple moves, this is the first time I’ve encountered a call-out fee being charged on top of travel time, rather than being included or offset.

Had this been clearly communicated upfront, I likely would have compared other providers, as this pricing structure makes a typical 2-bedroom move significantly more expensive.

Also worth noting: billing is done in 30-minute increments, so even small overruns are charged as a full 30 minutes.

The move itself was well executed, but clearer upfront communication on pricing would have avoided this confusion.

Moved the contents of a large house to our rental with no fuss. They innovated when the first truck wouldn't fit up the driveway due to a tree limb being too low. Their second truck was slightly lower and longer. So they just changed their loading plan and what went into each truck. Happily worked hard all day. Thanks to John, Mathews, Louis and Louis! My first time using them was great, had no complaints and thought we finally found a reliable mover. After last time, I will not use them again. LESS stuff than last time which somehow fit on the same truck size. The first movers actually took time to stack properly and tried hard to fit everything for us and make sure we were happy as they went even though it was a much more tedious job moving from an apartment whereas this job was just flat house access both ends.

They quoted me $277 for the call out fee, only to charge me $370 at the end of the job for it- excuse was "fastest route uses tolls and traffic at the time meant it was 2 hr travel time". That couldn't be caught at booking? Plus the movers took the liberty of driving tolls without telling us or asking us, resulting in another surprise $120 charged to us - excuse was they needed to take it to ensure a "timely arrival and completion of the job" even though we checked both routes ourselves at the time as we were driving too and the time difference was like 5 minutes.

Maybe those two charges don't matter in a world where we get the movers we had the first time but this experience was just bad overall - movers rushed the job, didnt really care to help us get everything we needed on the truck, side-table got damaged, and customer support took almost two weeks to answer for the charges which amounted to basically 'too bad' and no accountability.

Seems to be very hit or miss. I have also just updated my review now to one star after finding my shelves which I hadnt moved since the movers put them inside are wobbly because they were too rough with them and broke something at the base. Something they obviously would have noticed as they handled it but were happy to let me find out later. How do you both get paid for your time but also rush and break things as though you have somewhere better to be?

Moving with Holloway Removals was stressful and expensive. They charged $189/hour, and it took 7.5 hours to move our two-bedroom apartment just three blocks away. The movers themselves were polite, punctual, and careful, but the pace was painfully slow. When I raised this with the operations manager, he blamed “walking from the loading dock to… Read more

the apartment” for the long time to load the truck and said he even had a video of the walk—which he said was around 1.5 minutes. He insisted the job was done “right and within standard time” and implied the building conditions were not standard—what?? This is practically the norm for every fairly new building in Sydney with a loading dock.

At the final property, my husband had to help with unloading, which took 2.5 hours of the total 7.5 hours. Without his help, the bill would have been even higher.

If you are considering Holloway Removals, be aware that the hourly charging model can make the move quite expensive if the pace is slow. Larger companies like Allied usually provide clear upfront estimates of time and cost, which can help avoid surprises.
