Hi all, May sound like a silly question. But I'm trying to figure out..... The exact location of the car is told to me when? If I'm landing at Coolanagatta airport, do I look around on website for cars closest to airport then get myself in an uber or taxi to the exact car location? Thank you in advance-Rookie!
Hi Danni! Thank you so much for showing your interest in joining Car Next Door. Not a silly question at all! The car's exact location is provided via the Car Next Door app 15 minutes before the trip starts. The location you'll see when booking a car may not be exactly where the car is, but it will get you close. You may search for cars near the airport and if the car is a little way away from you, you might consider getting public transport as you have mentioned.

Just grab a taxi or Uber
Run away from car next door. Long term, more money loss to car next door than taxis.
I used Car Next Door for some time now and it honestly works smooth. I had some issues but the guy I spoke to said I needed to update my app, and it worked fine after that.
Run for the hills
If they take your credit card number at the point of renting, then why do they do a Credit check and put a black mark on your Credit file. By way of example (pre-Covid) if I went on an overseas trip and stayed at multiple hotels I would give them all my credit card details upfront. Not once in literally years of travel have I ever had a hotel do a credit check, it is the same thing. You can not give the argument that I might trash the car, my argument is that you are trashing my credit file. When I walk into a supermarket they do not do a credit check, when I bid at an auction for something or a house auction, they do not do a credit check. If my account is fully paid in advance with credit card details then how is Car Next Door providing credit, and if so then are they licensed to provide credit, if they are not licensed then how can they put a black mark on my credit file. If you are licensed what is your Australian Credit License details with ASIC.
As an observation I honestly get the concept, but for ease I will go with a mainstream rental company next time.
We run a credit check on all applicants, and you agreed to it by checking a box on the application form. This box is not ticked by default - you have to choose to click it in order to continue with the application. In the following FAQ we advise that to be eligible, you must have a satisfactory credit history (we'll do a credit check during your sign-up). external link
We comply with the consumer credit reporting laws when exchanging credit information with credit reporting bodies. You can find more detail in our privacy and credit reporting policy: external link
Managing a community car-sharing network is a little different to corporate car-hire. We need to ensure we're renting out owners' cars to the right people, so we run several checks to assess security and credit eligibility. We also provide credit to use our service. You pay booking fees and time costs upfront and incur distance and tolls up until the end of your trip. You pay for your final trip costs at the end of your trip. We comply with the consumer credit reporting laws when exchanging credit information with credit reporting bodies. You can find more detail in our privacy and credit reporting policy: external link .
If you are providing credit, then what is your Australian Credit License details with ASIC ?
Hi Karen, we're sorry if we are not able to provide that to you now, please check our external link . This policy sets out how we manage your personal information (as defined under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (“Privacy Act”) (“Personal Information”) and other information; and your credit information and credit eligibility information. This policy is our credit reporting policy for the purposes of Part IIIA of the Privacy Act. If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, contact us at support@carnextdoor.com.au or on 1300 611 342. Our full contact details are available on our website (https://www.carnextdoor.com.au/about-us/contact-us).
That is Ok I am delighted to wait, if you can not provide that information, when can you provide that information ? Again I ask a simple question. If you are providing credit, then what is your Australian Credit License details with ASIC ?
How can you put a mark on a credit file if you are not licensed by ASIC ? I have looked at your policies and there is absolutely nothing in your Corporate information about being a Credit provider.
Car next door is a scam. Don’t even bother talking to them.
I agree, one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Other genuine companies would attempt to fix their mistakes. I highly suspect that every 5 star review is a fake review, good companies do not have so many and so uniform bad comments.
I agree with you Karen! It’s the most dangerous form of scamming too! Because it’s neighbourhood sharing. Car next door wasn’t like this when I first used it. But once car next door screws your trip up and you need a refund. They start to accuse you , you owe them money. My bank confirmed car next door is scamming too!!
I have just signed up and I found the process quick and easy. I was approved withing 30 minutes, if that. But after reading these reviews, I'm not sure I want to use the service. I think I will delete my information and account. I'm disappointed to read those reviews.
I won’t be using again
So not a question obviously
Do not go near them.
Thank you Debra, and the other reviewers. I backed out and went with Go-Get, a much better choice!
Product Review is generally where people with a gripe come to complain. Car Next Door sees 25,000 bookings a month, and when the numbers are that big, there will be things that don't turn out as some expect.
People who were caught out because they didn't check the instructions or whose experience wasn't perfect often turn to Product Review to post. People with bookings that run smoothly typically don't post here to say that everything worked as expected.
You'll see that strong brands like Airbnb (1.5 stars), Uber (1.3 stars), and Bunnings (2.2 stars) have lower ratings than Car Next Door.
We reply to each review here as we see an opportunity to educate those thinking about signing up for Car Next Door. Our Help Centre is a great tool for those who have questions and want to ensure their experience is smooth. Take a look here: external link
I honestly wouldn't look too hard here for a balanced view of a particular product or service. I hope that answers your question.
Run away. They tried steal my fuel money on my fuel receipt. Hahahahah this is beyond stupid

So when I book a car with your service, it should be where it will be with 15 minutes notice right? And if some random dude called James sends you a text message saying Please contact James for access to the garage to your phone without any mention of car next door, you expect it might be someone who should have the right to give out your phone number, like a real estate agent you work with... though they would identify themselves and how they got your number. But that’s not how it works at CarNextDoor, right? You just give the customers phone number to the car owner and tell the car owner to sort it out for himself. Is this how the service normally works? You’ve told me as such in an email and sent me the evidence to confirm that this is how you do business. I’d just like to know if this is standard so when/if the topic of CarNextDoor comes up in conversation, I can say , well, it works like this,... they take your money and promise you the car at the time on the day. But that’s where they step off. After that, someone will probably contact you, as they’ve been given your phone number buy CarNextDoor, and tell you who to contact about accessing some garage without identifying themselves as having something to do with car next door. This is how you do things, right? Then, after submitting a complaint, be obviously the whole thing went belly up and there was not car available at the GPS sport with the key safe lock as advised by CarNextDoorr, but two long customer service phone calls, the first telling you to go to a building reception at Breakfree on another street to get the keys as James (who’s James?) has left the keys at reception for you. Reception is a French lady, says,..” Keys? James? I know nothing about such thing?...CarNextDoor customer service again, ... after 10 minutes on hold. Oh, were very sorry sir, that car is not available today. You’d give up with this service there and then and tell all your mates not to go near it. But you guys think you’re doing great and offer a $40 voucher for my (never going to happen) next trip. Then I get messages from CarNextDoor today telling me I was wrong cause some random guy called James, who identified himself only as James or to contact James and no mention of the car hire of CarNextDoor had given him my mobile number outside of the system sent me messages (that you hilariously sent me screenshots of) saying contact James to access garage. Who the heck is James and what garage? I knew, James must be the loading dock manager for the building where I’m having some furniture moved tomorrow. So I contact the building manager. No worries... all going to plans. But how did you... CarNextDoor, get from this complete mess up, that massively inconvenienced me and ended up costing me a lot of money to sort out at the last minute, how, seriously, hoooooooow, do you have the intellectual capacity to think it’s a good idea to try put the fault back on me? It is so beyond rational, never mind good customer service, it’s shocking and hilarious at the same time. How is Car Next Door going to make these random text messages without identification to car renters, light and actually explanatory. How is Car Next Door going to get an in house messaging service in place so that all messages and conversations can be tracked. And how will Car Next Door not take peoples money while providing no service? Some serious questions to answer and some serious soul searching to do. How will you, the brave consumer, try car next door, which is vaguely cheaper than a proper car hire company, be brave enough to take this chance?
So the next thing that happens, I’m not agitated anymore, just so extremely ammused... I get an email out of the blue after 8PM last night, more than two weeks after the complete failed service of CarNextDoor, saying they were sorry but they had to reduce the compensation credit to my account (as if I would ever use this company again) because the owner of the car provided evidence that he told you to call someone about where and how to access the car, which is completely contrary to the protocols and so called security measures car next door uses, a complete breach of my privacy by giving out my phonenumber and then allowing car owners to randomly send instructions on how to get acces to the car without even identifying themselves as having anything to do with CarNextDoor and in anyway in fact. The text message from an unknown number I got (not from CarNextDoor) said, “Call James on this number..... to get access to the garage”. If this what car next door considers responsible behaviour from the owners of the cars and even uses the screenshots against the compensation credit they gave me which I absolutely do not want - I’ll honestly am telling as many people not to use CarNextDoor as my experience with them was so shockingly bad, I just think it’s hilarious. My proper review with the photos as proving is pending approval. I can’t wait to see how Michael at CarNextDoor will try to spin this one. Seriously, anyone considering renting, read the negative reviews, of which there are for too many to risk taking a chance, and save yourself, not only money, but a rediculous amount of frustration from a company that one can only assume is managed by completely incompetent people. A few 1 star reviews for an eBay or Amazon seller and their business is doomes. CarNextDorr has rakced up over 300 one star (terrible) reviews and keeps climbing. I had actually forgotten about the awful experience until they emailed me last night to tell my my compensatoin credit had been reduced. It’s just mind boggling and really quite hillarious at how hopeless this company is.
This is not a question, it’s a rant / complaint. Please don’t start a sentence with ‘SO’.
