Motor mechanic and suspension engineer – The engine oil you can trust owned by British petroleum When I got my vx commodore. The owner manual required 10w 30, I looked up castrol recommended was magautac 15w 40w and thought maybe mistake and rang castrol and it was correct the. Car ran fine on it. So repco had castrol edge on special for $ 40 a bottle and it made big… Read more
change in fuel users and was 650..km around town. And 850 km on. Open road and very happy with d products . I have been use from XL , GTX to edge. So there was some bad stories of GTX in 80s. The car dealer were charging the oil at 1500km at make money at when the had run in oil to bed the rings in. So most were use castrol XL as not friction modified oil . So changing oil at 1500 cases the bore of to glaze there bore and use oil because needed friction to brake the motor in right. It was Japanese cars, as manuals told you not sitting on one speed at all times . They were days you had run in, some still do for new types of auto transmission castrol is company that doesn't say one oil sures all as some do. That why most oils don't put friction modified on labels. So read you hand book on year new car or second hand car for right oil specific. As a lot motor are full alloy and not checking oil and coolants weekly, could cost your good bye motor As it happens in 60s with one USA biggest manufacturer and sold to ròver England and serviced for over 40 years. Don't take the risk, the same as your tyres weekly pressure's. I pcl brand gauge made in England, but I don't know if still buy in Australia or who imports them. As we used them for over 25 year with no problems. I got all my family and friends pen type for gifts over 10 years ago pep parts.
Confused! – I've been using this oil in my various Golf GTI's for over 250k kms but am confused why the Repco and Supercheap sites say its not suitable for my car but the Autobarn and Sparesbox sites say that it is suitable. I know it's good and I change it every 5000kms but why the disparity in suitableness? Is it just a marketing ploy to get me to buy the more expensive LL option oil?
No complaints with Castrol Edge, – I drive a 2018 Octavia vRS Sport 2 litre turbo. Unknown to me till I studied the work report, the dealer changed to Castrol Edge 5W-30 at the 30Km (two year) service. Titanium based synthetic and well recommended. Up to 30km the vRS only ever used about 0.6 litre/15Km of the original Penrite oil but now at over 33Km I can't detect any change in… Read more
oil level using the Edge. Is this good or bad? I always understood a car should use a small amount of oil like I got with the Penrite. Regardless I think I'm happy. Performance seems more lively while a recent 200km test in combined conditions, freeway to town in 30C+ with AC running, returned 5.7L/100. Vehicle instrumentation told me AC consumed about 0.4 litres on that trial so the real fuel consumption was about 5.3L/100. Not bad for normal driving and a bit better than with the Penrite.
Great oil for protection – Found this oil to be well above industry standards It has a slightly heavier weight than most 5w30 competitors and stays in grade well over its use Good start up protection Clean synthetic with great hot weather protection and solid total base number TBN to ensure it’s integrity Watch for sales at Repco and Superchesp Very reasonable sub $40… Read more
pricing and once you’ve tried you will be a convert Better suited for multi cam and valve set ups with production years early 2000’s onwards which need oils compatible with catalytic converters and O2 sensors Try it I see it is a worldwide favourite and I trust Castrol engineers !
Amazing oil that I put into my 2016 3.2 litre Ranger – Have owned this car since new and have always run Penrite 5w30 full synthetic oil in it but have always been a little disappointed in the fuel economy. I change the oil & filter every 7000 k and the car has the usual mods, including a remap and 3 inch exhaust. It tares in at 2860 kg so she is heavy. Using the old oil I used to always average 13.8… Read more
litres per 100 kilometres. Now I have gone to this new Castrol A5 oil as it states, it is recommended for rangers and mustangs, my fuel economy is back to 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres. Very happy with those figures.
The synthetic standard – I've been using Castrol Edge Titainium for a number of years in all my cars. I have tried most of the readily available oils from supercheap auto. After a recommendation to try Castrol Edge in my VS SS commodore I was extremely impressed with it's performance. I change every 10,000km and it is clean. I believe it could easily do 15,000km. tip for people wanting to try it but are scared of the high price. "Stock up when there is a sale". Best time of year is around the Bathurst 1000 race.
