Used to be a good litter, worth the price jump above supermarket clumping litter but not as expensive as many others. Batches vary in coarseness. The coarser the batch, the less it clumps and the less it controls the smell. I have a sifting tray and i can smell the wee in the next room when sifted is in a sealed drawer and main part is also… Read more

Cat has also started using her sisters blood detection tofu litter box. Guessing she prefers that litter
Time to look for another brand or ditch the sifting litter tray so i can go tofu for both girls
Catsan had been great for a couple of years. For some reason, something changed and the new packets of litter have 0 clumping capacity. I thought that maybe my cats had changed so I changed their little to the cheapest no name supermarket brand. Funnily enough that litter clumped! I now have a couple of boxes of useless Catsan litter in the house.
Buyer beware, this clumping clay litter has been renamed to "Natural Clumping Clay" litter and has the consistency of gravel. After rejecting it initially, I combined it with some of the old fine grain litter, and they are using it. I've trodden on it with bare feet, and it hurts. I will move back to finer grain litter, this litter is too expensive for me not to be totally satisfied with it. Show details

Was an excellent product, but no longer clumps as it used to. Looking around for something better. Update Sep 2025: i have lifted my rating because there seems to have been a return to form recently. The manufacturers need to be more careful about consistent quality. Show details
What is all the fuss about – I don't understand what people are going through with negative catsan experiences. This is the first time using this clay. I have 4 trays for my 3 cats. Easy to clean no smell. My young cat liked it so much she was lying in it before she started using it. I'm happy. Show details
Great Aussie made product – I bought this litter recently as the one I had moved to (Arm & Hammer) has been hard to find of late. I noticed the consistency of the litter (fine grit betonite) is very similar. It also has a fragrance to it as well, which is a bonus. I bought a 7kg bag for $16 at Woolworths to try out and being impressed with the product I searched around and… Read more
found it at Big W in a 15kg box for just $25! Much like the Arm & Hammer litter I was using it is very good at masking odours. So I then compared the price of the 2 brands and a 19kg box of Arm and Hammer is $49. So for $50 I can get 30kg of the Catsan versus $49 for only 19kg of the Arm & Hammer. And another bonus is its made in Australia while the A&H is made in the US. I'll definitely be 'sticking' with it in future.

Be aware of Bentonite in this product causing respiratory issues / health concerns – I used this litter for a long time but noticed my cat developed asthma, which I eventually linked to the dust from this product. After switching to tofu litter, her asthma attacks stopped almost immediately, and I haven't seen an attack in months, confirming the dust was the cause. Additionally, as a long-time user, I observed that the clumping quality was inconsistent across batches—some didn’t clump well, if at all." Show details
Change of formula disappointing – I have been a loyal customer of this cat litter for at least 12 months until the last two purchases. I’ve noticed a difference in the quality of the litter. It is coarser and more like the cheaper versions. The odour is not controlled anywhere near as well as it was with the finer grade a few months ago. I am going to switch to another brand. Catsan Clumping Clay not clumping – Used to use one Tidy Cats 24/7 and one Catsan. TC no longer imported- it was amazing. What are people using now (not crystals) for two big cats please? Show details

Doesn’t clump properly – My husband bought this instead of our usual clumping litter while I was away. It’s terrible. It doesn’t clump properly. When you try to scoop the clump out of the litter tray it just breaks up into tiny little pieces which fall through the scooper and taint the rest of the litter. Show details
What happened? – My only original gripe when purchasing this cat litter was the bad quality packaging it came in, with the handle breaking too easily, yet the litter itself was pretty good. Now the product itself has been modified to "sand" consistency & the price tag has gone up, yet still retaining the same bad quality packaging. No clumping ability at all and I… Read more
literally shovel most of it out when cleaning the cat trays of which I have two. Because it doesnt clump, the stuff ends up stinking as it doesn't absorb the urine. I reckon I could go to my local garden nursery and buy the same thing cheaper...yes sand. Don't buy it, the no name stuff is way cheaper and actually works.
Waste of time & money – I only have 1 indoor cat and the entire back of my house stank of cat urine after 2 days. Even after I removed the clumps and cat poo! Don’t bother. The crystals, however…. Show details

If I could go minus 5 I would – Litter doesn’t clump, smells and goes everywhere. Not value for money because I am ending up having to change every few days. I had used this brand in the past with success. I don’t know what has now happened. My cat doesn’t like it also Show details
Worst cat litter ever – This litter is the worst I've ever bought. Clumps fall apart into little clumps. So end up spending longer cleaning the box due to all the "clumps" that have fallen apart. a 7kg bag was lucky to last a week for ONE CAT. Only bought as stores were out of the one I usually get. Absolute waste of money. Coles or Woolies home brand is a million times better than this garbage. Don't waste your money. Show details
Terrible – This litter is in tiny little particles. The urine forms a clump but it breaks apart very easily once you scoop it out so it just ends up back in the litter tray and the litter tray stinks. Also the tiny pieces end up covering your entire house. Do not buy this unless you intend to have an army of robot vacuum cleaner and scented candles in your house. Show details
Not as good as it used to be – In the past this was my favourite cat litter, I had two cats so it was great how it clumped into a ball, was easy to scoop and I didn't need to replace the lot as often compared to other clumping clay litters. I'm not sure what's changed, I only have one cat now but I find it doesn't clump as well, it tends to smell more and it's just not as good.… Read more
I've actually switched to using a completely different type of litter as a result.
I used to be a big fan but not any more unfortunately.
Smells a bit much for my liking – Bought a big bag for economy sake, but this is not as good as Applaws and it travels everywhere. The clumps you can get out only half, rest does not clump and so result is, after a week it smells terrible despite my daily fastidious sifting. Show details
My cats favorite litter – My cats love this litter, so do I. It's so easy for me to scoop out the clumps. Then I Can leave the rest for them. I usually sprinkle in some BiCarb Soda & mix it around & the're happy. Highly economical! Show details
Terrible Product – I bought this Cat Litter from Woolworths and it is a complete waste of money. First of all, my kittens get it all through the room and down the hall. I have to keep sweeping it up. It hurts when walked on as it is like rocky sand. It does not clump and it does not prevent smells as promised on the bag. Do not buy this. It is not worth it. Show details
Doesn't clump and bad odour control – I was recommended this by a friend and he is mad. The litter is terrible. Doesn't clump so can't scoop out pee balls. This makes the litter smell very quickly. Have to replace the whole litter every 2 to 3 days. My usual brand is good. I just add new litter every time I scoop and replace the whole lot every week or so. Show details
absolute garbage – Absolute garbage, thought I try out a new litter brand since my friend recommended it. It is absolutely disgusting and catsan should be ashamed of such a product. My house stink of pure urine with basically no odour control at all. Absolutely dreadful Show details

What's wrong with it now? It used to be good, but no more – It used to be good, but now I"m just wondering what to do about it as it doesn't clump properly - it is mainly just is a soggy mess. It seems to be a larger 'grind' which tracks right through the house now and certainly hurls the feet if there are no shoes on. Why did it have to be changed? It now costs me more because the soggy mess just seems to spread and I would like someone to point me to a better litter. Show details
Cat clumping litter not as good as it used to be! – When I first bought this box in early 2007, it was the only product I bought for some 10 years for my two felines and it was pretty good for most of that time. It’s got to a point now where the product is for most of the time, pretty useless to clump and breaks off into small pieces. Possibly due to the clay particles being so much bigger now… Read more
and possibly because I’ve found superior cat litter products. I’ve just had to give away my last box. It’s not worth buying anymore!
Back to the drawing board – I bought this for the first time recently, and am very disappointed. Looks like sand and stones mixed together and clumps about the same. I have no idea what the product used to be like, but I would avoid this one until they make some much needed improvements. Show details
Fantastic not as good as it was but still great – First thing I will address is the claims by some it don't clump that's ridiculous it does Second thing I will say is it's great it works it's not as good as it was but it is still the best thing on the market by far Show details
Awful – I’ve been buying this clumping (so called) litter for almost 12 years. It used to be excellent but lately it’s SO bad. It now like small pebbles. It’s too big to clump, & too course for my cat to dig into it or cover her business. How can something that was so good become so bad? If you’re trying to save production costs it won’t work because I just won’t waste my money any more. Show details
Useless, – Used to be a great product now does not clump at all. Previously my laundry did not smell at all. Now there is a from vague to strong smell of urine (or worse). Any ideas for an alternative brand that does work? Show details
Tracks everywhere! – This was my 3rd brand and at first I thought it was pretty good. But now I find that it for one, tracks everywhere. ( I have 2 kitties ). 2nd it stinks!. And I have to agree with previous comments that it doesn't clump very well. It crumbles. Now I am trying a European one. Supposed to be the best and costs a lot but if it works it's worth it.
No longer clumps – This product used to work well but it seems Catsan have changed their formula lately because the urine no longer clumps. Instead of clumping, the clay turns into wet sand which can't be scooped up. My cat hates the new formula because she's basically stepping into urine-scented wet sand inside her litter box and she can't cover the scent. I now… Read more
have to completely replace the litter every few days instead of doing the full change on a weekly basis. If the clumping clay no longer clumps, then it's time to shop around for different kitty litter.
Used to be a very good product, but not any more! – I agree with Jocelyn regarding this cat litter. Have used it for many years, but have found this year that the urine doesn't clump anymore and the litter itself, after a couple of weeks, goes into a slightly gluggy mess on the bottom of the litter tray. The company has obviously changed how the litter is now being made; the end result being… Read more
that this product has slipped from a five star product (on my grading) to a one star product...however, the company still charges ever-increasing and exorbitant prices for it. I will now look around for a more suitable product for my cat's litter tray.
