Check Your Bill

BE WARNED!! THIS IS A SCAM!! Do not give them any information. Check your Bill and Unique Offer/s are both scams! They are pushy and will not take no for an answer. They use actual info from legitimate energy providers - mostly Alinta, but some Energy Australia as well to try and trick you into a false sense of security. Hang up!

Is CheckYourBill or UniqueOffer a scam??? I received this call from a guy called Walter from Unique Offer. His background sound very noisy as if he is from Indian call centre. on0.28 and 0.88. I said I need time to go through and he can called me in afternoon. Later in afternoon, he did call me again and requested my address. As I not comfortable to give out address, I just said I will try to find NMI for him. So far he had been patiently waited around while I take my time to find the invoice from Energy Australia. Once I found the invoice, I read out NMI then he read out my address from his end which I didn't expect. Yes, silly me. So he guide me through the rate and everything seems fine and I think I am kind of happy with it, he then said will pass on to a consultant to close the deal. Before he forwarded me to the consultant, I asked what information do you need to close the deal. He mentioned he needs name, email address, driving license, medicare card and so on. I said I am concerned with my privacy information and need more them to think about it. He started to be impatient with me and the attitude started to be hostile. I told him that don't I have the right to be concerned with my privacy information. Then he slightly sounds better a bit. I started to ask which company you from and he said Unique Offer. I said I cannot see it on website. Then he mentioned the company website is www.checkyourbill.com.au and there are privacy policy and Terms there that I could read on. He also mentioned that they are the partner of Energy Australia. I said thank you and I will get back to you. He suddenly get agitated that the credit will goes to others. I said if I am still interested, I will call the 1300 numbers on the website and look for Walter. He still concerned the credit will go to others and asked me to read them now and he can wait patiently on phone. I declined and indicated I am a slow reader and need much longer time to go through it. He keep pushing to call in an hour which I declined. I said I will give him a call tomorrow and his attitude started to change and become more rude and putting more pressure and more pushy. He keep saying his concern is credit goes to others. I re-iterate that I will call the 1300 numbers and look for Walter from CC5 and you will get the credit if I still interested. He declined and keep saying to call me which makes me suspicious if this is a scam call. I said if you are really the Walter from this company, then you should not be concerned. Later On, I hung up.

Then I called Energy Australia to check if this company is really their partner and Energy Australia did confirm. so I gave Energy Australia the feedback that their third party supplier is rude and abusive and they should consider a partner which is respectful to their potential clients.

that they can steal money from you.

They call you from a scam centre in India using a spoofed number that your mobile phone reports as coming from within Australia. They keep notes on each person they call and try to get you to reveal information about what company you are with for electricity, broadband etc. and what plan you are on and then they claim they can save you money. In actual fact they are trying to get enough information from you to steal money from your bank account.

In my case they already knew from information I’d revealed from past conversations (when I was relatively naïve) that I was with AGL for gas and electricity and didn’t want to change. The guy who spoke to me tried to get me to reveal what plan I was on with AGL so he could quote lower rates than I was currently paying. When I didn’t reveal my plan he quoted rates that he could get me that were actually higher than the rates I was currently paying with AGL. He then put me on hold while he switched me to one of his ‘supervisors’ and instead of holding I hung up.

The next day the same scammer rang using the same spoofed number and wanted to resume from where we left off the previous day. When I told him I knew he was a scammer he launched into vigorous denials and I hung up. I then blocked the number so if they tried to call again they would need to use another spoofed number.

Possible a scam? – Today people from the same company called my wife about 6 times offering discounts on our electricity bill. I told her it was a scam because my name was listed as the account holder and not her.

Frustrating and Disruptive – Over the past two days, I have received a total of 11 calls from a company called "check my bill." Each time they call, I ask them to remove my number from their list and stop contacting me, but despite my repeated requests, they continue to call. It's become incredibly frustrating and disruptive. I am doing my best to be patient, but their refusal to honor my request is becoming unacceptable.
