Beware of coles insurance
Warning do not use Coles insurance, I have 6 policies with them, after 7 years and have now made my first claim due the water entering my garage during the recent storm.
They said it was because you haven’t cleaned your gutters and poor house design even though it’s 50 years old and perfect condition. I also had to follow up all the time as well, no communication from them.
The water entered my garage from the huge volume of rain nothing to do with my gutters.
Happy to take your money every month but refuse to replace contents. I pay almost $1000 a month in insurance seems I had no cover at all.
So it’s just a charity donation every month.
Beware don’t waste your money. I hope I can save someone else going through this.
Terrible customer service
Asked a simple question over phone, Girl had no idea and had to keep putting me on hold to talk to her manager. got a different answer and a contradicting answer, then on hold got hung up on without answer.
$998 more expensive, asked for refund before cooling off period, refund by check in 10-14 days.
I had put house and contents insurance with coles. $2133 a year, in Tassie, for 300K house and 50k contents. Got a quote a few weeks later through "the motor enthusiasts" - $998 cheaper, same same same but I actually get motor burn-out cover and don't have to pay extra for covering the "removable items".
should have shopped round a little harder....
Rang to cancel within the 30 day cooling off - and was advised that the refund will be via Cheque.. Now, when I set up & paid, I'm sure it was via Direct Debit STRAIGHT from my bank account..
Will not honour legitimate claim
Moved my home and car insurance to Coles last year to save a few dollars. My house suffered damage through the severe storms 2 months ago. Two months and countless phone calls with Coles and they will not fix or cover the damage. And in that 8 weeks it has got worse as left untreated. I concur with the other comments on this thread that they are quick to take your money but buyer beware if you actually need to make a claim. I am switching my home and car policies back to Allianz - happy to pay a little more money to actually have piece of mind am covered
I have my home and car insured with coles, even convinced my children to insure their cars with them. They sound great, very cheap until you make a claim. I have been with them for over 10 years, never made a claim. After a recent storm i got some water damage to carpet in a small room. They rejected my claim as apparently my drain isnt adequate. If that was the case it would happen every time it stormed which it doesnt. I have a $500 excess so it would only have cost them $200 to replace the carpet but instead they deny the claim. I have since...moved all my insurances and my childrens insurance to another more professional company because at the end of the day you cant trust them to look after you if you need to make a claim. Their premiums are cheap but so are they, and their policies arent worth the paper they are written on. Better to pay a little extra for peace of mind because they wont look after you when the time comes. If i had read some reviews i would never have gone near them, pays to do your homework first
Value For Money, but.....claims process is Atrocious!!!
27 emails, a complaint to the Ombudsman and 2 years to get a straight forward claim completed! Highly stressful! No apology or acknowledgment of error. Advice: get everything in writing.
Don't bother with Coles Home and Contents insurance
Don't bother with Coles Home Insurance.
We lodged a claim for water damage which was declined, all good, we had a valley that needed fixing and some tiles to repair. So we spent $5,000 refurbishing our roof. We had a HUGE deluge in Jan and had new storm damage, so we lodged a new claim, knowing that this was done with a refreshed good roof in place,we were positive of a good outcome.
Our new claim was lodged on the 28th of Jan, on the 15th of April I reflected on the lack of email, lack of phone calls and called them. I was told that the...claim was declined (broken tiles apparently) and we did not get a call back because it had NOT YET been scheduled...how long does it take to get a callback on your claim, or even an automated email???? We had not had one word back in nearly 4 months. This was off our mind due to a medical issue in the family, but it should have been on their mind and processing.... as we pay them for the service that we had requested via this claim. Also, as a side item...the roof was refurbished in late 2020 and we had storm damage with the first real deluge in Jan 2021. We have no overhanging trees, what breaks tiles in summer, space junk, or too much sun for the terracotta? How often does a roof need to be refurbished/checked so that you can make a claim???? Don't bother with this company for your insurance. Go somewhere else even if it costs you extra because any money you sink into insurance with this company is just a donation and you won't see any joy from their claims process.
always look for reasons not to pay
My 92 year old mother had Coles House and contents insurance and never missed a paymnet, and had never made a claim. Regardless of her good record and being a low risk customer, Coles increased her premium by 26% last year and when we submitted a claim after a recent storm event resulting in water damage to her plaster ceiling, they declined the claim as they said that the cracked tiles were from previous foot traffic on her roof. How on earth would they know if there was or wasnt foot traffic on her roof from prior years? Given that her claim...was only small [and her excess was $750], so it would have only cost them a small amount to fund the difference to repair and repaint her lounge room ceiling. What a miserable grinch-like organisation they are. We will be cancelling her policy and going with a fairminded insurer and raising our concern with the Ombudsman. Our family has numerous properties with several other insurance companies and they have always been fair and reasonible whenever a claim might be questionable.....but not Coles. My advice is, do your homework and try other more professional companies first.
Agreed to pay then changed mind
]coles agresd to claim. Had mould manager etc.Theyre 2star builders wouldn't come to Ballarat. Covit. 6 months later through are claim out. Policy therfore worthless. Cancelled all policys and now with competent insurer
These guys are a complete ripoff obviously leaking roof claimed not maintained when I had waterproofed area less than 4 months prior cancellation was immediately there assessment guy said no problems
An insurance that actually paid the claim!
In the storms last year, our laserlite awning (a very $$$ custom job) covering the deck got beaten up with holes in it due to the hail, as well as a roof that had various leaks and caused leaking in the kitchen.
Called Coles thinking expecting the worst, but Coles did well.
It took a while though (there were a lot of storm claims).
Coles did not approve any roof repairs (as that should have been covered by maintenance apparently).
But they sent out their guys for the awning repairs, and they knew exactly what material we had, and replaced it...
DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT INSURING WITH COLES
Had a roof leak as a result of a very severe storm (colorbond roof), plaster gave way and is quite damaged. Make safe came out within hours of me instigating a claim and thought they had stopped the leak on the roof, commenting what great condition the roof was in, next day rained again and roof still leaking, assessor came out said don't bother getting make safe to come out again as it will be fixed under insurance, them promptly filed a report and rejected my claim saying the roof was not maintained properly! 2 issues : roof STILL leaking alt...hough Coles said they would get make safe to come back and haven't (thunder storms due today) and what is the recommended protocol for roof maintenance : once a year, every 5 years every decade...ever at all!! No one seems to have an answer however my roof has failed as per the assessor although it was cleaned by a professional 4 years ago to remove moss etc and he reported no issues with it - I shudder to think what would happen if my house was ever totally written off for some reason - I now have a leaking roof, damaged plaster and a need to find a competent insurance company, quickly
I am the Lucky one
My house was flooded in ankle deep water in Feb 20 from storm, I rang the night of the flood and reported it, I was put in accomodation from the next day, (stayed with family member night of flood) it took seven months before I could move back into my home, really no ones fault it took this long as Covid 19 hit us all so caused some hold ups. Coles were good all the way through, with building and contents, why I am saying I was lucky, both neighbours on either side of me with other well known Insurance Companies, where not so lucky with no work...started on their properties until 7 months after the flood and from what they have been told they wont be back home until around Easter 2021 so they will have been in hardship for 14months from time of the flood until they are able to live back in their home again, so I am one happy customer. Thank you Coles.
Cole's Insurances for both Home & Contents were cheaper than anyone else - I have checked everyone else. and Cole's cover and service was excellent and couldn't be matched. It was easy to set up so I strongly suggest if you're looking for insurance cover, give Cole's a try. You won't be disappointed.
Better off with no insurance than with Coles Home Insurance
Had home and contents since 2015 with Coles and 0 claims.
Contacted them on the 7th November as my neighbor's pool had been slowly flooding my side yard and corroding my septic tank. I only realized what was happening a few weeks ago after my sewer tank started shorting out.
Called Coles and said it was an emergency as without pump pushing waste into main sewer lines the waste would come back up the pipes into my home.
They organized an assessor immediately who in turn organized a plumber and electrician who quoted the repairs then told me to ...
