DeLonghi Lattissima Premium EN720M

If you are willing to hack it, it can be better than a Latissima Pro from usability's point of view – I am happy with the taste of coffee from either Latissima Premium or Pro. But no one would argue that the Latissima Premium sucks in usability. Its milk container is difficult to clean, its raised-up drip grids severely restricted the sizes of cups to use and its water tank is hard to take out and put back. In short, it is an over-engineered… Read more
machine. The good news is, lots of the parts can be thrown away without affecting its functionality.
1) The drip grids
This were the first parts I got rid of. I detached them from the water container then took out the two stainless steel bars at the bottom of the machine so that I could cut off the useless intruded plastic part that was extended from the bottom of the machine. By doing so, I freed up the space and was able to use any sizes of cups.
2) Hot water nozzle
I bought a silicone tube to extend the how water nozzle so that I can use any shorter cup.
3) Milk container
I kept the black top part of the milk container but got rid of the container itself. I picked up a big stainless cup that is much easier to clean. I added a silicone tube on the milk spout so that the milk froth can reach any shorter cup. I replaced the original Cappuccino/Latte Macchiato tube with a longer silicone tube so that it would reach the bottom of a taller/bigger milk container.
4) Water container and drip tray
I just throw them away. I used a flashlight to observed how the machine sucked water from the water container and figured out that all I needed to do was to lower down the black plastic tube (that sucks water from the water container) and added a long silicone tube on it so that it would be able to suck water from a water container outside. I then added an auto shut off valve in that water container so that I won't need to refill drinking water into the water container anymore.
So far a great coffee making machine – Only had a few weeks but very happy with consistent results, hot coffee. To get the best results, I recommend you purchase genuine Nespresso capsules. Compatible capsules work OK, but the taste isn't as great, crema on most non genuine is very poor and pour is slower, much slower on some. Show 2 replies
Great Machine – We have used this model for 32 months, I small gliche was covered by warranty. They sent us a replacement machine for the duration of 7 days. A really nice touch... Need to use the top cup warmer to get hotter coffee. Fully Auto with indicators for low water, bin full and for cleaning. Holds a lot of water and it quick primes when empty Quick and easy coffee, the capsule grades ex Italy are the very best. Have not found anything. Show reply
DeLonghi Lattissima Premium - Will help keep the repairers of this machne in business!! – I would steer well clear of this machine. I purchased this machine 2 years ago and I have had it back to be repaired at least 8 or 9 times during ths time. The first problem was the milk was always cold or luke warm at best. I was provided with a restricter whch made it a bit better, but I then kept having the milk dispensper break down and has… Read more
been replaced at least 4 or 5 times. This is not a cheap machine at circa $1,000 Rec Retail, so you should not expect to have it serviced every few months and you should at least get hot coffee. The most recent repair seems to have fixed the problem.....so far, but it's only been a month. It now produces relatively hot coffee without the use of the restirctor.
On the upside, when it is working, it actually does make good coffeeand is pretty easy to use and minimal cleaning up afterwards. The staff at Nesspresso have been relatively helpful in gettng it fixed each time under warranty, however, I would choose another machine if I had my time over. Can make good coffee when it actually works Very unreliable, cold to luke warm coffee
Looks good and makes a great coffee – Like all things new you have to learn how to use it first. Having been through that stage we are very satisfied with the overal functionality of the machine. It's very easy to look after and the coffee pod varieties are great. Warming your cups up first helps to keep the coffee hotter. compact size and easy to use
Great coffee at the push of a button – Once setup this machine makes great coffee. In order to get it working properly, the cups have to be heated, and the coffee/milk amounts should be setup for your cup size, and the frother set to halfway. But once setup- it's really easy to get a good cup I coffee everytime. For best results using the milk jug, press the clean button before… Read more
an after use. The first time is to get the area hot and primed. The second is to make sure it's clean.
The amount of froth is adjustable, from a flat white to a really foamy latte style. I will say that on the lowest setting, the milk is not to my liking and is a little on the cool side - which is why I think there are a few reviews on here saying it makes 'cold coffee'. The best all round result for a flat white coffee is to have it set to half way. This gives a good balance between milk foam and temperature. Incidentally, setting the foam setting to maximum produces very hot milk.
Aside from this drawback, once you have everything set right - the coffee is great.
I have owned another Nespresso machine (see my other review) and I'm not sure if the milk from the auto frother is as good as from the aerrocinno, but the auto frother it is definitely easier to use and clean.
The cup warmer is a little on the cool side I think, but I always use hot water to heat the cups anyway, and just store the cups on top, so I'm ok with this.
I'm not sure how people could say it's hard to program... you just hold in the button till the amount of milk or coffee is right, and then release and the new level is set automatically.
All in all I am happy with it. Easy to use and clean, compact. Milk frother is a bit finicky, cup warmer needs to be hotter.
Terrible – The pushy dubious sales man from one of the leading retailers , gave me half an hour sales pitch on the benefits without explaining in detail on the machine, when I asked questions about the machine , he told me to read the manual as he seemed to have little product knowledge of the machine. I told him that I wanted something equivalent of… Read more
barrista coffee I buy from the shops every day with little maitenence , I was directed to this machine.
When I took the machine back to the store, they sent it away and took them a week to get it tested and sent back to the store I was supposed to pick it up from, they acknowledged that they reset the machine so the timer wouldn't switch off after half hour when set on the two our standby mode.
But the milk frother coming out luke warm, could not be adjusted. I was lucky to negotiate a full refund as I only had the machine for two days. .
My main grievance of this machine was the luke warm milk coming out of the frother. If you choose the machiato setting (latte) three quarters of the coffee is luke warm milk with a third being a coffee shot. Which gave me a luke warm coffee which I could scull in three seconds. the short or long blacks options the coffee was hot it was mainly just the milk coming out which was luke warm.
This is something Delonghi need to fix.
All I wanted was a barrista style coffee which was hot. This product failed on so many levels given the money I payed. My advice is Buyer beware, stay away from this product. Easy to use , easy to clean The Milk frother coming out of the jug comes out luke warm, giving you a luke warm coffee. The Standby timer has three settings , continous, half hour and two hours . When set on two hours the machine turns off after half an hour. The Coffee Capsules have to be ordred and are expensive, much more than coffee beans grounded or ungrounded. You also have to wait a week before you get deliverery. The cup warmer is mild warm I could keep my hands on the machine for a long time, what hope had I had of keeping my glass warm???
I think this machine is fantastic! Unfortunately the sales person didn't do his job by educating… Read more (+2 replies)
Great convienient coffee but get your IT tech to sort it out – We have owned this machine for five months now. On the whole we have found that it makes good coffee but it needed some attention when we first got it out of the box. We are a small office of five staff (we also come and go alot) and a fridge. The sink is down the hall so we did not want something that would need lots of cleaning. In this respect… Read more
the machine is great. The milk container goes back in the fridge when we are done and it is easy to clean by flusing the frother into a paper towel which goes in the bin.
At first the calibration was all over the place. A Machiatto would overflow the shot glass, a cappuccino was just half a glass of milk froth and almost no coffee. So we had to pour over the manual and get this sorted out. But we got it working - but hey, we are an IT company, we work this sort of stuff out for a living.
About a month after we bought it the frother just wouldn't. We cleaned and cleaned but no go. We called DeLonghi and the didn't ask any stupid technical support type questions. They just asked for our address. The next day a new throther turned up and this one has been working fine for four months now. I like that kind of service attitude.
I can't say I've experienced the issue with the milk not being hot enough that others mention, but I an more of a Machiatto drinker (I don't need the calories, just the caffine)so maybe I have just got lucky. Many shops that sell these will demo it so you should be able to try it for yourself before you actually buy.
I wish it had some better timer settings. We ended up buying a timer switch and setting it to run continuously. This way the cups have had time to warm up in the morning, and they stay warm during the day. The two hour timmer is silly. When it turns itself off, you need to reach around to the back of the machine to switch it back on. It always seems to have been off when I wanted a coffee.
On the whole we are happy with our purchase. Works well for a small office. Easy to use. Easy to clean up. A built in timmer would be great.
Love it! Easy to use, easy to clean, looks great! – We bought this machine 2 months ago after having owned a smaller espresso maker for about 5 years. I have to say, we haven't experienced any of the cold coffee troubles that previous people have experienced. Even my friend who likes hot coffee says it is great. It makes better coffee than both of my friends' more expensive fully automatic coffee… Read more
machines and I love being able to choose the flavour and strength of my coffee with the pods.
It has consistently made one great coffee after another and we also use the milk frother for frothy hot chocolates for the kids. Hubby drinks long blacks and I drink milk coffees, sometimes cappuccino, sometimes flat whites and it never misses it's mark. It took a bit to programme the quantities of coffee and milk for each function, but once we got that worked out, it's been brilliant.
Cleaning is a breeze, all the bits just go in the washing up. The milk jug lives in the fridge which means it keeps nice and fresh. We purchased the big sampler box of pods and have enjoyed working out which flavours we like. Delivery of the pods took about 2 days which is totally acceptable. Haven't had anything go wrong with the machine as yet so can't comment on customer service but certainly we are very happy with it.
If you're after a no-fuss, simple coffee machine which produces reliably great coffee than I would highly recommend this machine. Easy to use, looks great on the bench, always produces a great coffee If I had to say something, I would say the water reservoir and empty pod container are not as big as I'd like. Not that it's a problem, it just means they require attention more often.
Cold coffee that was consistently pretty awful – Had this for 2 weeks and are replacing it for something better. While I didn’t find it too hard to use, the results were very underwhelming- cold coffee that was always pretty awful. The clean-up following a latte or cappuccino was a pain as milk container has weird angles that are hard to wipe down. If you want a good coffee the way you want… Read more
it walk past this overpriced unit. Looks pretty good, consistent result Cold coffee, rubbish milk system, difficult to clean properly, not customisable at all
Disappointed – Cold coffee. Love all the features But coffee so cold the kids can scull it down Immediately. Should have opted for the cheaPer Citiz model that my friends have and they have hot coffee. Do love the pods Easy, fun and pods taste good. Cold coffee hat needs a blast in the miCrowave.
Cold Cold Cold – Hated it! would give it ZERO stars if i could.I took it back after Two days, I went through the manual 3 times reading instructions, but I could not get a warm milk based coffee from this machine, considering this costs RRP $999 its absolutely a piece [censored word removed] ! "Shame on you DeLonghi". If you read any review web site, this machine… Read more
cops a flogging. Heed the advice and do not be tempted by this poorly made machine, In hindsight a should have done more research on this machine, I took another reviewers advice and swapped my EN720M for the Citiz w Milk, Halleluiah! 1 million times better, save yourself some cash and get the Citiz, it’s the only good milk based coffee machine in the whole range. To be fair all the models do make exceptional espresso, but if you buy something with all the bells and whistles you should expect them to work. great expresso, no mess capsules cheap plastic fittings, cant make hot or even warm milk based coffee, dosnt really heat the cups to well, small water reservoir,
