DEPOP'S DEEPLY FLAWED SYSTEM IS A HAVEN FOR SCAMMERS! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Despite multiple well known common scams actively happening on their platform targeting both buyers and sellers for years, Depop has done nothing to rectify the situation. Their so-called help centre provides customers with a set drop down menu that fails to cover any of… Read more
these situations and is staffed mostly by bots. Good luck contacting anybody human or managing to avoid the AI loop. Sellers can just withhold items, issue a partial refund (which triggers the Depop platform to mark the transaction as "refunded" with no caveats, and results in closing the transaction so that it is no longer possible to request a refund or raise a job via their resolution centre), then simply delete their accounts and avoid any accountability. Conversely, buyers can simply report an item as damaged or missing and have their full cost refunded with seemingly no evidence required, leaving the seller without their money or their product. Why don't Depop fix these issues? Most people don't bother to pursue with the frustrating and lengthy complaints or refunds process, and that's largely because of how incomprehensible Depop have made it. Maybe they just don't care because they're getting to keep the seller fees. If they're claiming they are unaware then that's even more reason to avoid, because any decent company gives creed to feedback and actively looks to better themselves. I wish I had looked up reviews before getting scammed by a seller on my very first purchase. I will not be shopping on Depop again any time soon.
Bought a supposedly decent leather jacket that was completely torn and damaged and depop refused to refund when escalated. Its a total scam. Never buying again
used to be okay, the only real alternative to selling clothes in australia outside of the convoluted ebay terms, but it has gone downhill: they prioritise the ios app over the android app - staff confirmed vacation mode doesn't exist on android, but it still has a tab for it? can't set vacation mode on desktop either. other navigation options… Read more
lacking on both platforms.
and buyers want everything for under $10 even if it's great quality and an expensive brand.
Depop accused me of counterfeit when my items are handmade. Then they shut me down for having two accounts when i need to have my bags on there own. They hold our sale money for more than ten days. They take boost fees when i did not have boost. They take fees and processing fees i have to pay for post from my pocket because they keep our… Read more
money, they don’t care about scammers and fake offers. They took paypal away in last up date. Because they want to hold our money. If someone would make an app better than depop. I would leave. Every company warns u before shutting u down. But not them. I have $200 in my balance. And they shut my account and i have post in pending to mail.
Depop is a very clunky platform and as much as the selling part is fun. The not being able to edit feedback stars - someone made wrong ones in error. Tracking if made in error, etc. limited payment options. It’s just very mediocre to sell on. They need to really up their game.
Support terrible, buyer purchased an item , cancelled their transaction via paypal after item was sent, depop failed to step in. the buyer took the item and Depop still did nothing about it - as they facilitated the transaction they should take ownership in rectifying this and ensuring sellers trust the platform - will de delisting all items and urge everyone to do the same, Its a scam and easy for people to rip you off!
I got sent an item so damaged it could only go in the bin. Depop refused to communicate on the issue… so don’t expect customer service from depop, especially when they host scam sellers
Avoid!! I was sold a damaged item. I contacted Depop help centre and they advised I needed to pay to ship the item back to the seller and THEN I would be refunded. I did that. It has been 10 days and I have still NOT received the refund from the seller. Depop customer service deemed the case actioned and closed, saying the seller has sent the… Read more
refund. But they have not. There is no protection for buyers. Sellers can sell anything and you can’t do anything about it.
Zero stars. Criminal website. The help centre is more like a group of scammers. No protection for anyone. AVOID!
Absolutely criminal app. EXTORTION by withholding payments in order to get your facial recognition. Withholding payment for over 10 days!!! Don't pay you until product delivery 2 days after.. and then want your ID uploaded and a selfie!!
Customer service is absolutely a joke, there is no accountability for sellers when listing are incorrect. Everything is poor, fees are high. Buy and sell anywhere else but here.
Have sold and bought several clothing items on Depop Australia. Has been fine until Oct 2025, when they decided to change selling terms so that instead of payment going to seller at point of sale, they KEEP the sale money until days after delivery. That means sellers are out of pocket for postage etc. I have never had a problem b4. Clearly this… Read more
gives them access to millions in profits while they HOLD OVER those profits to invest short term at sellers' expense. Will be uninstalling and NEVER using again!!
BEWARE SELLERS! Depop takes from your sale, fees plus fees plus fees! ..... so you receive a lot less than you expect. As well as a 10% fee on the sold item, can you believe they also charge a 10% fee on your postage! You do all the preparation and go off to the post office, they do nothing and they charge you 10%. Plus they insist that the… Read more
payments go through Depop payments or PayPal who also take fees before the money goes in your account. And you do not get your payment in to your account until after the item has been delivered.

Purchased "Doc Martens size 6" from Depop seller clauds_alii. Received counterfeit shoes that were actually size 5 (confirmed on box). After purchasing, the seller sent messages claiming they weren't real Doc Martens - attempting to change the sale terms AFTER I'd already paid based on the fraudulent listing. When confronted, she gaslighted me by… Read more
claiming my "non-response" to these post-sale messages meant I agreed to buy fake shoes in the wrong size. When I called out the fraud, she played victim claiming "honest mistake" (listing counterfeits as genuine isn't a mistake), blocked me on Depop to prevent reviews, removed the listing to hide evidence, refused to pay return postage. PayPal refunded me immediately for counterfeit goods. However, Depop's system allowed this seller to list fake branded items, block buyers from leaving warnings, remove sold listings to escape accountability. As an autistic person who relies on accurate product descriptions, this fraud and gaslighting was particularly distressing. WARNING - Avoid seller clauds_alii CONCERN - Depop needs stronger measures against sellers who list counterfeits then block buyers who complain. Currently reporting to NSW Fair Trading and Doc Martens directly.
I have experienced an appalling level of service and professionalism from Depop and their relationship with PayPal. After joining Depop to responsibly sell second-hand and pre-loved clothing, I was shocked to find that PayPal is withholding funds owed to me — despite my providing valid shipping confirmations and proof of delivery for all… Read more
transactions. Depop has refused to assist and continually passes the buck.
Depop is a well-established platform for reselling vintage and branded clothing, with a strong emphasis on circular fashion and community-based commerce. Like many users, I followed the platform’s guidance by promoting my listings, sharing authentic item details, and fulfilling all orders as promised.
However, PayPal has demanded proof of purchase for items that I personally bought more than 8 years ago — a completely unreasonable request, especially for second-hand items. Their refusal to release my funds, even with proof of shipment and delivery, amounts to unjustified withholding of my money.
Worse still, the process of dealing with PayPal’s support team has been frustrating and dehumanising — with robotic, dismissive responses that provide no real assistance or resolution.
I do not recommend using PayPal or Depop for any seller operating on Depop or similar platforms. The experience has been stressful, disheartening, and has undermined the trust I once had in their services.
I have since moved all payment processing to Apple Pay, which has proven to be a far smoother and more reliable alternative — without the unnecessary red tape and aggressive communication style.
PayPal and Depop must seriously review how it supports independent sellers, particularly in the growing resale market, or risk losing more users to modern and transparent platforms.

I have purchased Oroton Harriet tote bag. Item was described as "Medium"buy seller. ( Oroton make only Medium and Mini size) But what I received was MINI. It wasn't Medium size. I was after bigger than Mini which is Medium. I emailed Depop to explain the size description was WRONG. Regardless I have attached several photos to compare the size (… Read more
Medium and Mini), Depop kept saying " Item was as described. The photo was same as you sent".
YES, the photo was the same ( Small or Big, it was the same design of course!) but the SIZE was WRONG!!
There is no buyer protection. ( as lots of people say here in reviews) The case was closed by Depop.
Be careful what you purchase. Once you pay, they don't care any problems after that at all.
"Buyer's protection' seems to be just "A CATCH"
My account recently got banned, and I made a sale the day my account got banned. I contacted customer service what I should do, and they said that as long as I sent the item, I will get my money. I still shipped my item, and informed them that I already sent the item (I made sale on Thursday and shipped it on Tuesday morning). and during the… Read more
afternoon, suddenly, team member [Name Removed] refunded the buyer, without my consent and without checking on my ticket first. I had been chasing them up multiple times, but NO RESPONSE from DEPOP
I lost my money while I did the right thing. I reached out multiple times, sent the invoice, sent the proof.
Sellers beware! – Sellers, think carefully before selling on Depop. My selling experience started well but then the Depop bots incorrectly identified some of my genuine items as counterfeit and suspended my account. I appealed and got access back. Same thing happened twice more ..and for the same items! Don't risk selling on Depop, it's a time consuming and… Read more
incredibly frustrating experience if your account is suspended and the replies you'll receive from Depop Help are just copy and pasted...and useless.
DEPOP IS A SCAM WEBSITE – DEPOP should be closed down with how bad it is! DEPOP is a SCAM for sure!!! My first account got suspended claiming the photos were not my own when In fact they were mine! A few years later I make a new account under my married name and My account got suspended for no reason within 24 hours and can’t get in to even find out. Rubbish site would not recommend at all
Real legit items deemed fake based on bots – Don’t use Depop I got banned for selling items they said were fake when they had all legit tags on them, I appeal but the dim witted customer service rep was going off the listings that probably got picked up by bots. Licenced reproduction jerseys shirts are not fake especially when made by well known brands as they are a throwback type jersey but… Read more
no Depop went off the bot listings picked up. Totally fools and turkeys run the site no wonder EBay had stood the test of time plus I was sick of the ridiculous low ball offers lower than eBay and the begging to reduce prices then verbally telling me in a direct message. Yeah not back Depop is the worse selling platform that ever existed if I could give less than one star I would. So real branded items with the legit tags are fake, um ok in what universe Depop, bunch of idiots over there when a dodo bird is smarter than these baffons !!!
Knowingly allow scammers and hacked accounts – I received an email from Depop stating I had posted an item flagged as a scam (I hadn't posted an item at all). I tried to log in but my password had been changed. I contacted Depop immediately and they tried to help me change the password but none of their links worked. I requested they delete the account to prevent people being scammed using my… Read more
name and didn't hear back. When I followed up they repeatedly refused to delete the account because there had been activity within 90 days, despite being aware that the activity was a scam. As of this review, I have made 4 requests for the account to be deleted with no result. BUYER BEWARE, THEY KNOWINGLY ALLOW SCAMMERS.
DO NOT SELL OR SHOP ON DEPOP. Scam – It is pathetic their customer service my account got suspended for spamming??? I find it very weird how that is ever possible with 5 star reviews and great sales. They do not take the time to give you a chance to appeal. They are so strict to the point they monitor the cellphone used to make A account to not make another account. I a surprised they are still going on with this business with the amount of complains.

Please please DO NOT use Depop – My account was suspended on Depop. They claim I was selling a counterfeit designer bag. I took photos and showed proof of purchase to appeal their decision. I also showed proof that it is a genuine authentic handbag. I don't believe they even looked at my photos or read my emails. I've had over 700 sales and all excellent reviews. Please do not… Read more
use Depop. There is something wrong with this platform and the people that designed it. It's not a good business plan & the way they treat the sellers who are earning money for Depop is horrendous and downright disgusting. This platform is going to fail. It's just a matter of time. I spent hundreds of hours putting clothing on Depop and they banned me without proof or even a warning. They made accusations against me in several emails. If I can find a way to take legal action against Depop, I will. There is no business that can get away with treating people like this! Please let your family & friends know NOT to use Depop. The platform is also full of scam artists.
untrustworthy – recently had a terrible experience with this company have gone to consumer Affairs and they intern took this matter seriously and they also looked at this to see reviews they suspended me from my a/c which i wanted closed and told I was a risk to other people and wouldnt delete my data my privatacy has been compremissed and they dont even answer… Read more
anymore I suggest all reviews should be reported to Consumer Affairs and they should be dealt with accordingly
also they are a subsidiary company of ETSY
BEWARE. INCOMPETENT BUSINESS – Had never heard of this mob until I saw a product I wanted to purchase. Joined and purchased. Then Depop had the nerve to start emailing me, accusing me of SPAMMING and that they are closing my account. I responded as I had done nothing of the sort (although frankly didn't care as had made purchase). Depop (Name Removed) responded, arrogantly,… Read more
refusing to provide any further clarity or evidence about their 'final decision'. Dodgy business who I think may actually be a spamming business themselves. BEWARE.
Poor customer service, would not recommend – Went to reopen an old account but kept getting error messages. Opened a service ticket and was told my account was suspended for fraud. I've never used it for anything before, just opened an account about 12 years ago and I suspect someone else has used my phone number on the site. They refused to look into this properly and have blocked me from access.
