Stinking Bed & No Customer Service – We purchased an upholstered Queen Bed from DeRucci Alexandria in April 2022 which we were very excited about, due to the comfort and appearance of the bed. However, upon delivery of the bed, we noticed a terrible odour emanating from the wood beneath the bedhead. Customer Service said this was normal for their new beds and wouldn't listen to any of our concerns. After our first night's sleep, my husband awoke after a few hours with breathing difficulties and bouts of coughing. We rang Customer Service who refused to accept that the bed had an issue. We called the store numerous times who said to call the Head Office but everyone was 'passing the buck' and we were put in the 'too hard' basket. We ended up calling a specialist in wood and they said that untreated wood could be toxic and may cause difficulties with breathing etc. He suggested we coated the timber of the bed frame with a non-toxic, odourless paint which we did at an additional cost of $600. The upholsterer agreed that there was a very strong chemical smell coming from the timber. So we then wrote to De Rucci Head Office again with this information, requesting compensation but have still not heard from them. We just want to caution anyone before buying from DeRucci!
