I had one of these kits previously and was very happy with it until my bike was stolen. I bought another one of these kits to build another bike and am 99% sure this was still sold as a 1000W kit at the time I purchased, and Dillenger gave me free shipping too, given my misfortune, which I was grateful for. Anyway, the kit came with an 18A (peak)… Read more

controller, compared to the previous one I had which was 22A (peak), I was told that this was due to the old 22A controllers burning out some motors and having been replaced with the new 18A ones, and I was told that this kit had never been sold as a 1000W kit but rather 500W. I went to double check the website and the NZ site was down for quite a while (the Australian site advertised as 500W), and once the NZ site came back up a week or so later, it was now showing as 500W. I guess that’s the reality now, wish I’d known when I bought. It’s still a good kit, but I find the way the new controllers are set up very annoying, they give a small burst of power initially from stand still, and then there is about a 4 second dead zone, where there is no power until the controller slowly brings on more power. When adding power at speed this actually ends up feeling like the bike is trying to slow down initially to the interim speed, until it slowly starts giving you more power about 6 or so seconds later. Another thing I’d like to see added is an immobiliser, pretty simple add on, but difficult to retrofit, given the plug and play nature of the kit.

Dillenger review: Mixed feelings: premium off road 1000W rear wheel kit – General Overview: 3/5 as of 09-20-2022 I bought the premium off road 1000W rear wheel full kit in August 2022 for $788.00 USD including shipping and taxes. I have been using the kit for roughly 1.5 month, 10+ miles every weekday in Tennessee, on rather flat terrain with a few steep slopes and downhill everyday. Average speed is 23 mph. I got in a… Read more

moderately severe accident because of an e-brake sensors’ failure.

While blasting the assist to max level 9, strongly pedaling in accelerations and uphill, and anticipating stops – stop using the engine – my guess is I could get roughly 15 miles out of the battery. I did not fully empty the battery though. You will probably not be able to keep up with the pedaling speed at max assistance full speed, that is why I only pedal during accelerations and uphill.

Accelerations are definitely faster than cars, so I would say the torque is generous enough, although I do not have points of comparison since it is my first e-bike kit. It will take you up any hill, but significantly more slowly if really steep – you will probably have to pedal. It is just 1kW after all, which is easy to forget given the immediate torque you get from zero speed compared to a combustion engine.

Do not expect any spares in the kit.

On top of that, the disc brake replacement spacer came with a crack, fortunately I have disc brakes so I did not need it.

I do not believe the controller is easily reprogrammable and the display is pretty simple; but it does the job and the kit had a very good price-point.

I do not know yet about the overall durability of the entire kit especially motor+battery, I will try to update this review after a few months of use, if for some reason I do not, feel free to reach out at kevin dot llopart+ebikefollowup at gmail dot com

To conclude, I think the company is genuinely trying to do well, but as far as I am concerned there is room for improvement. Read on for details.

Braking and PAS system: 0/5

The e-brake sensors are flimsy and not reliable. One magnet already came off. As a consequence, after negotiating an aggressive downhill turn and braking, the motor kept spinning -- it should have stopped thanks to the e-brake sensors. Of course I drifted, fell, and got terrible road rash on my arms and my hip. I was in pain and limping with crutches for a week, fortunately I am 31 and healthy and I am 90% recovered as I am typing these lines… At first, I thought it was my fault before realizing it was due to a missing sensor magnet. I have requested a replacement and have been advised by the customer service to buy a new magnet on my own. I suggest that at least you set the PAS to the minimum if the sensors become faulty for you too.

The other sensor started failing a couple weeks after, causing the engine to stop randomly: scary and dangerous. Fortunately I unplugged this sensor as well and it seems that it is not cutting off anymore. I am in the process of trying to get an upgrade for the e-brake part from the customer service; we will see how it goes.

The PAS system is hard to install precisely and I do not really trust its positioning over time. This is not as critical as the ebrake sensors but still I wish the design was better.

Customer Service: 3/5

Reactive but I did not feel very supported as of 9-20-2022 – read previous paragraph. I will update if it changes.

Shipping: 4/5

I wished Dillenger negotiated a better deal for shipping. It was $59 when I bought my kit. Also, I almost got a $36 foreign transaction fee with Bank of America, that I managed to get waived, but Dillenger did not warn me beforehand. Definitely watch out for that!

Price-point: 5/5

Safe travels to you, biker friends!

Great Quality Product – I bought my wife a Dillinger Street Legal Samsung 2.0 conversion kit in the 700c size for her old Specialized bike that she loves. Quality and finish on the kit was top notch. Installation was straightforward, I'd never installed an e-bike kit before and I didn't find it hard, so anyone can do it. If you're in doubt Dillinger has installation… Read more

manuals on their website. I was impressed with the power that a 250 watt kit provides, it is excellent. The Samsung battery is a bonus as its a trusted brand, another reason I chose this kit. It holds its charge for ages and being a 13 amp hour battery has plenty of juice in it. Overall I would recommend this kit to anyone looking at a front hub kit for their bike. It will rejuvenate your bike and you'll want to ride it more I can guarantee that much. Delivery was prompt and the Dillinger team answered any questions i had prior to purchase.

Old trike gets new lease of life – As we get older some things get harder to do so we often stop doing them, this was the case for my wife and her trike. I continually heard that the hills in the area were becoming harder to get up and riding was becoming more of a task than an enjoyment. I had seen electric bikes getting around and after a quick search on the internet I found the… Read more

Dillinger’s web page with kits for existing bikes and thus the project started.

I contacted Dillinger’s to see if the kit could be fitted to a trike, their staff were very helpful and pointed me in the right direction (I needed a front wheel drive due to the pedal mechanism used on trikes). So I went to Dillinger’s on the Gold Coast to pick up the kit and received some more help from the technician that day.

With the kit in hand I returned home to undertake the installation. The kit had everything I needed except brackets to fit the battery (the instructions indicated to use the drink bottle holder screws but the trike did not have any so I made up a couple to secure battery holder no drama fitting to the frame behind the seat well out of the way of rider). Everything else fitted like it was designed for this trike specifically. Once it was all fitted to the trike battery charged it was time for test run. All worked as if had always had an electric motor. The wife now has no issue with those hills and is back using it like she once did. Very happy with the upgrade. I would recommend this product to anyone especially if your getting a bit older and just need that little bit of help on the harder climbs. Or if you are a little unfit and need some help to get started this will give you assistance to get up the hills or keep pushing into that head wind. It gets you out and about which is a good thing.

Thanks Dillinger’s

Two Great Kits transformed our old Giants – My wife and I were looking at the idea of electric bikes as we live in a fairly hilly area and weren't using our old Hybrid Giant bikes much because of this. We were reluctant to simply ditch our old bikes as they were still both in good condition and we liked them. This led me to look at electric kits and ultimately after several emails and a… Read more

couple of telephone conversations with Iris from Dillenger to buy two Dillenger kits. I bought the Street Legal Samsung front hub kit for my wife and the Premium Off Road kit for myself. With a little patience both kits were installed without complication. I had never installed an electric kit before but with some prompt and thorough email backup from Dillenger support, reference to the online kit-specific manuals and a some youtube install guides it was a trouble free process. The kits are also of good quality and colour coded which makes things simple and stress free. We have now done approximately 200klms on each bike and they're brilliant. Mine goes up and down gravel bush trails effortlessly and my wife is similarly impressed with the versatility and capacity of hers. Ordered a torque arm for my wife's bike and as with the kits themselves despatch and delivery was secure and prompt. Travel distance on single charge is impressive for both bikes. I regularly do a 25klm bush track/cycleway, up hill, down dale round trip and arrive home with 3 of 5 bars still showing on the battery charger readout. We have not started either of our cars since the installations were completed. Very impressed with everything and anticipate great long term enjoyment from these products. Definitely recommended.

Disappointing due to bad quality – I was very enthusiastic about getting a Dillenger Premium Off-Road Conversion Kit for my Gazelle bicycle. rear wheel as a spare). From the start the motor made a scraping noise and it turned out that the electric motor was faulty for which a replacement was sent. Again I had the replacement motor fitted by a the same certified E-bike mechanic. I also noticed from the start that the spokes were very loose and after a few weeks 2 were broken , giving the wheel a little wobble. Not long after that another 4 spokes snapped and by now I was unable to ride the bike. Since I only use my bike for riding on Bike paths and food paths and not doing any off road tracking, you can understand my disappointment, I brought the wheel to a specialist in bicycle wheels and was advised not only to replace all the spokes but also the rim. The quality of the spokes, rim and spoke configuration was well below standards. The combination of the powerful motor and the extra weight of 8.5Kg do require a well constructed rear wheel. The total of the extra costs adds up to about $500. In conclusion, you get what you pay for is so true. The cheap offered priced (product from China) has to come from somewhere. The product is very disappointing but the after sales service from Dillenger Australia was very positive so far

Good follow-up support – I had some problems with the motor overheating initially which is the OEM's shortcoming not Dillinger's. this review, something I rarely do. It has lived up to all the claims about speed and range. It has cut more than 20 minutes off my 22 km daily commute, giving me more than 40 precious extra minutes a day with my family, and for that I am truely grateful. I was not sure at first whether buying from Dillenger was the right choice, when I could not get a reliable answer to a technical but simple question about sprocket pitch from a company that sells themselves as engineers. I decided to take a punt in any case and have no regrets. Great product, good service. If I have any criticism perhaps they could make some improvement in the area of detail product knowledge, but overwhelmingly this purchase has been a positive experience. Thanks

refund to buy the correct part elsewhere as they don't sell it, Dillenger refused, store credit only. There reason, they don't fit them to the motor I had which they told me before ordering, so they "could not have known it would not fit", basically your problem not ours, I didn't ask them to fit it, just if it was compatible and they indicated it was, untrue they could not have known, they just could not be bothered to check. being the only distributor for the product in Australia they could have found out, question I first asked, I later contacted the manufacturer in Czech Republic and got a reply with the info required in 10mins, would think a return and refund would not be such a big deal, the part is no use to me but still perfect for their next customer that could use it and they keep a potential future customer happy, not so, interesting trend with negative reviews for this company, 16 terrible from 35 reviews is not good, says a lot, mine makes 17, if you have an issue after the sale, don't expect much help, Pay Pal saw it differently and forced the refund.

Buyer Beware Dilinger Electric Bikes !!! – Buyer Beware Dilinger Electric Bikes !!! - If you have an issue after purchase kiss your money goodbye!!!! send the battery to them for assessment. I sent a detailed letter with the battery and spent $30 on postage. One week later I received a sternly worded email from [name removed] stating “you are not to send a battery to us unless you contact us first”. They obviously do not communicate to each other as this is exactly what I did.

[name removed] simply stated that the mechanic assessed the battery and it cannot be fixed.

Considering the battery cells are the overwhelming expensive part of the battery I requested the following solutions and the answers from [name removed] are as follows :

Can you replace the BCM at my expense? [name removed] said NO.

Can you order a BCM from the manufacturer? [name removed] said NO.

Can you order a BCM and I will have it installed locally as your mechanic obviously does not have the skills to replace the BCM. [name removed] said NO.

Is the part currently available? [name removed] said NO.

Why is the part unavailable? [name removed] said I don’t know.

Is this part currently obsolete? [name removed] said NO it isn't, a pause, then Yes it is.

The last statement is surprising as Dilinger currently sell that kit on their website.

So frustrating it became comical.

The only option [name removed] reluctantly provided was to go online and find the BCM circuit board myself.

There are only two components to the battery pack, the BCM and Battery cells. Dillinger could have easily informed me that they do not repair or replace the BCM rather than experiencing all of the above and wasting $60 dollars total for postage sending the battery to them.

Dillinger have you send the battery to them at your expense, inform you it is not working by running a multimeter over the socket then state, “NO” we cannot help you. You are then forced to buy a new battery for $500 dollars off their website, what a scam!!! They could clearly state on their website that they do not do any repairs on their kits, they only replace. I would not have sent the battery to Dillinger in the first place or in the first instance not have purchased the product from Dillinger.

Dismayed with [name removed]’s rude and condescending customer service I requested to speak to her supervisor [name removed] and he was disinterested and uncooperative as [name removed] was. He proceeded to hang up the phone as a defeated person who knows their customer service is appalling and they have been exposed.

I managed to get the BCM repaired by an acquaintance with the cost in parts being negligible.

People, I am not here to bash any business that does not deserve it. Dilinger do not communicate with each other in the workplace and have extremely poor, actually appalling customer service. They have no care, do not answer the phone and divert their calls to message bank which in hindsight is a red flag. It takes several days to get a call back if at all as you have to continually call them back. That's the service you get from Dillinger. I should of taken heed to the product reviews I have read here as this is exactly the experience I have received. Once you buy their product you are on your own and if you live interstate forget it.

On their website they state they have an “ever improving after sales service”, that’s a joke, there is no after sales service!!!

I wish I had seen these reviews prior to purchasing their product. I have done my bit here, you have been warned. If you have an issue after purchase kiss your money goodbye!!!!

Amazing Power, some specific suggestions – A Dillinger/Samsung Off-Road wheel is now mounted to my 12 year old Santa Cruz Blur LT, and my bike has become the equivalent of a Range Rover. documentation:

1) In order to fit the unique pedal assist device, you must have 4+mm of bare axle on the crank shaft. My Blur XTR has zero, so I'll be needing to fit a new bottom bracket w/ some bare axle.

2) The tumb operated throttle fits poorly when combined with some brake & shift mechanisms, and in my case, I'm on a search for switching out my Shimano Mega shifters with something less bulky. I hope Dillinger can develop a bar grip throttle (a la motor cycle)... and make it backward compatible.

Supplied wiring is more than sufficient for battery rear-mount on a Blur.

Otherwise, this is hands down the ultimate in biking pleasure, and relatively easy to install.

Very pleased!

I found out what I needed from a combination or their intructions and a few youtube videos to work out how to remove my square taper cranks and bottom bracket. Off road kit – I have the off road kit installed on my Trek and it handles very well off road. The installation was challenging but if was to do another it would be easier the second time around. road riding). And boy did they hit the nail on the head with my conversion kit, satisfies all my needs and more!

Upon purchase they offered to install the kit, but I opted to give it a crack myself, and with the help of their product manuals the installation went fine. I have put heaps of km's on this kit over the past year, both on the street and in the trails in Nerang State Forest, and it has handled everything I've thrown at it. It should be noted the spokes did loosen after a month or two, which is to be expected due to the extra torque and load a motor adds to the wheel. I had a chat with Dillenger and again they offered to tighten the spokes for me, but I have a spoke tool and after a couple initial tighten ups, they've been rock solid ever since.

Again I am really happy with my kit and can't recommend Dillenger enough. The amount of money I must have saved on fuel is crazy, as well as the hours of fun I've had on this thing. Cheers!
