Appalling experience – My experience with Discover Energy is too complicated to relate here, but let me just warn prospective customers: I found this company unreasonable in every way and extremely difficult to deal with. They may be cheaper, but it’s just not worth it. Show details

Shonky – Signed up to their VPP late 2020 after being contacted numerous times by a consultant. Very happy with consumption and feed-in rates until mid 2022 when they advised that consumption rates were to be increased substantially and feed-in rates to be decreased from .25c to as low as .03c. trading my stored electricity and it was only after I had contacted them on numerous occasions that they advised that my particular inverter model was not compatible with their VPP despite their knowing the make, model and even the serial number at inception. Sought compensation for estimated loss of revenue based on my storage capacity, trading rates etc but they rejected my claim. A claim with the energy ombudsman was also unsuccessful as DE refused to provide them with the necessary data to support my claim. Eventually, I had to lodge a claim with Small Claims Tribunal and it was not until a hearing date was set that DE finally agreed to my claim. Interestingly, when I obtained a Company Search as required by Small Claims Tribunal that I discovered that DE is not even a public company but rather a private company similar to ones set up by Mum's and Dads to operate a small business. DO NOT HAVE ANY DEALINGS WITH THIS SHONKY COMPANY

Absolute scam – We had solar installed and were with another company at the time, who slowly offered us less and less until we ultimately had to pay them again, then this mob came along full of promises, offered good rebates on our excess power, and came good on the offers for the first month, now the suns come out and all of a sudden we are back to getting a bill as well as they use this VPP thing and milk our battery flat at 2-3am ? Show details

Shocking Scam – If I could leave a NO Star review I would. My first electricity bill with them was $294. Then they sent me a bill of $1300 for 62 days of usage(same usage). I am shocked. This is by far the most expensive electricity bill I ever received. Stay away from this Company at all cost. Show details

Very disappointed – Advised of peak rate change 22/6/22 to $0.2728. Then I get a bill with peak rate charged at $0.6487!! No advice, nothing. This company is a genuine rip off and as someone else stated, should be subjected to class action. Show details

Totally Unethical and the Worst Energy Company in Australia – I had to give this review one star which Discover Energy do NOT deserve! I signed up for a VPP Solar and battery account. over 6 weeks until I worked out what the problem was. After this was resolved the number of trades dropped although the market price was increasing. For the first three months, I received a credit of approx $30 per month. This then shifted to monthly bills of around $90 and then a bill of over $200 dollars for a month after they increased the kWh charge from $0.16 to a huge $0.64 per kWh! Do NOT sign up with this company they will rip you off. I have now moved to AGL, and while not ideal, as there is no provision for reselling battery power, my monthly bill is now negligible.

Absolutely Unacceptable – Have lived at the same place for almost a year. I have had my electricity set up through Energy Australia who I trust. unreachable. I tried twice on 01/08 and had my housemate call twice today 03/08 to try to correct this as we will NOT be paying, but they can't even man their own phone lines.

Interesting developments – I have asked for a refund …. and I get nothing reimbursed…. Just wandering what is going on.Maybe I should take my loss and move on. This company is a total ripoff – The only thing I can say about this company is it is a total ripoff and I can’t wait Tor one of the legal firms to start a class action against them. The operating system consists of getting you to have solar and a battery then taking the green power out of your battery and on selling it at a higher rate and then charging you for peak power rates… Read more

What a ripped off, price increased 3 time within a month – It’s started with $0.27 per kw then increased to $0.49 then $0.777 then $1.26 per kw within weeks. It took them weeks to released us and moved to different company. My mum had to pay $770 for 20 days before moved. Not very happy customer. Please stay away. Show details

2 weeks to get a pasted reply via email and phone does not get answered – I am with Discover Energy. It started out ok. now increase from about 16 Cent per kw to 55 Cents after Discount. Feed in was 8 Cents now 3 Cents. I am lucky, I can change to (I think any company) a better rate with another company. Pitty I can't tell them because nobody answers the phone. Show details

Will increase rates after you move to them – Moved to this company in March. In May I've had 3 separate rate increases alone. Rates are now multiples of what I signed up for. This would appear to be thir business model. Show details

Doubled Usage Charges and No FIT – Wouldn't bother with these cowboys. Got an email stating our charges were changing and upon inspecting they were literally being doubled. a typo but no, it wasn't. I switched as there are other companies still offering a decent 12c FiT and usage charges are less than half of these new charges. Joke. Only upside is that their customer service is great.

Stay away unless you want a crazy price hike within 2 months of signing up – I have been with many energy providers in the past and this one is the most ridiculous energy provider. They increased the price by 140% within 2 months of signing up and with 5 days notice (I don't even know if that is legal). Don't get fooled with the "initial" rate as it will eventually cost you more than most energy providers out there. STAY AWAY !! Show details

Horrible – Please try someone else. Great to begin with, then they double your rates. If you can’t compete with the big boys don’t bother, leave the poor consumer alone. As much as I like competition, it seems we can only go with a few retailers. Show details

Dont bother, they increase prices by absurd amounts eg 122% over 9 months – Signed up an initally the prices were great. Then a few months later they updated my prices - they were still reasonable so stayed with them. Then they reduced the solar feed in but again they still seemed reasonable. supply charge by 54%. That is over 9 months. You are reading that right, not 22% it is 122% increase in 9 months!

Closed our application on day of moving in – Came across this service provider on Vic Energy compare website. 3 days after signup, on the day of moving in, they closed our application saying they cant offer their own advertised rates which were on our application. Show details

Avoid at all costs – Within 2 weeks of signing up I received a Energy Rate Change notice that dropped my feed in by 6 cents. If you leave anything but a glowing review on Facebook, it simply disappears. Show details

Cant register my VPP because they have cut off that option – I invested $16000 in solar panels and inverter and battery (sungrow) and was told by discover energy I could earn 45c/kwh. They reneged on their offer and to make it worse...don't seem to have that program any more. I can't sign up my plant. No other power company will accept Sungrow products.
