Dodo Home Phone

Exceedingly poor – Against my better judgement, but urged by an associate, I secured the services of Dodo for handling my home telephone service. All OK for a few months, but then a loss of dial tone, which I immediately mobile phoned for information. A long story cut short, it took nearly six weeks to restore the line, and despite tales of storms in NW Victoria… Read more
creating telephone problems, which was nonsense, the fault was found to be in an electrical box just one kilometre fro home. All went well for a couple more months, then a storm took the line out again. Tried to phone Dodo, hung on for 15 minutes and 10 seconds litening to repetative music, then hung up. Tried their on-line chat - sorry no operatives are available at this time. Gave up and phoned Telstra at 11.45 am and requested that my home number be ported from Dodo. By 1.15pm I was advised that my service was now with Telstra, and at 8.30p, THAT SAME EVENING, Telstra delivered me a Satellite phone, and by 1.00pm the NEXT DAY, my external telephone line had been replaced and I was back in the land of communication. Dodo is pretty useless, and trying to contact them is a nightmare, beware.
Bullied my 83 year old mother into paying more than she should – My mother is 83 years old and signed a bundle contract with Dodo for her energy, landline and internet. She got rid of her computer a few months ago because she has mild dementia and couldn't manage it anymore. I advised her to ring Dodo and request a cheaper price for her landline since she was no longer using the internet. Dodo did promise her… Read more
a cheaper price over the phone, but when I examined Mum's Dodo invoices she had not received the discounted price. I advised Mum to phone Dodo back and enquire why she was not receiving the promised discount. The woman Mum spoke with refused to honour the discount and my mother was left in tears and extremely distressed after that phone call.
All her invoices are still labeled Your Home Phone And ADSL Tax Invoice and they all charge her an excessive price for what is only a Home Phone service. Mum recently had a fall and was hospitalised so I haven't had time to follow this up.
Mum is in a vulnerable age group and it's both shocking and unacceptable that Dodo would take advantage of this. She's also terrified that she will be without power and a landline if she tries to change providers. At her age she needs uninterrupted services at all times.
Now that she is out of hospital and recovered from her fall I intend to follow this up. I will not allow anyone to take advantage of my mother. Before I published this review I gave Dodo the opportunity to respond to these issues via mediation. I waited over a week and Dodo failed to respond. They are charging my Mum $75 a month for a home phone only, but their current offer for a home phone plan is $40. They are charging my 83 year old mother $35 more a month than their new customers.
Uncontactable – I am trying to instal a landline for our business and the automated phone line says it needs to be done on the website. No matter which contact term I choose, when I press next, I get a 'Page not found'. Incredibly frustrating.

Still going well – We have been with DoDo for quite a few years now. NBN and home line. Good customer service and good connection. As good as Telstra and cheaper.
INCREDIBLE price. high phone cost has gone with the dodo – I was previously paying $40 per month on line rental. JUST LINE RENTAL alone. I live in an area and I can only choose telstra or a telstra reseller. For $29.90 per month I get line rental. for an extra $10 I get unlimited calls (doesn't include 13/1300, but thats okay because no one other telstra reseller includes them). At my mum's address I… Read more
was paying $70 per month to get unlimited local calls and a fix rate national and mobile phones. For $39.90 dodo includes all these calls. So I quickly move my number over to Dodo as well as mum's. In total I save $10/month at my address and over $30 at my mum's address.
I also decided to move over our ADSL too. For an extra $29.90/month we get unlimited data and we don't have to worry about damn on-peak times and off peak times.
Note that Dodo sells their cheap phone plan without the internet bundle so its actually good for those that just want the phone line. Hearing negative reviews about dodo back in the dial-up internet age, I was skeptic about joining them. But after being with them for a year I can say they are REALLY GOOD.
Something that everyone needs to worry about is location. I found out that it doesn't matter who you are with, if you're in a terrible location where the infrastructure is terrible than of course you are going to have problems. Before I move to dodo I was with a really good company, but after 6 months my internet starts dropping out. I found out that nearby telstra was doing some work. After many months my internet speed was finally stable and my area was upgraded to ADSL2+. By the time I move to dodo last year I was still enjoying the same infrastructure but with lower price. So I admit I'm enjoying great service with dodo because all possible network issue has been fixed when I was with my last provider. But I'm highlighting a point, if there are issues on the network than it really can't be help by dodo. It will be up to the local guys tending to the issues.
Looking at some of these negative reviews, I just want to remind people that you can't expect the same kind of service at such great prices. Dodo customer service are very polite and they are always nice to me. The waiting on the phone is long. But I've waited on the phone for AAPT, telstra, optus, TPG, Southern cross telco, vodafone, Transact. There is no perfect company. And if there is a problem with the infrastructure thats just unavoidable. You just need to calm down and be nice to the dodo customer rep. All they can do is log the issue.
Best way is to email them or use their live chat.
I guess if your internet is down you're screw. But than I remember before I was with dodo, my internet was out and I had to use my 3G data on my mobile to send an email. But this isn't going to work if some big issue occured and your mobile provider, home phone and internet is out for over 24 hours. This happen to me before, but if you think about it, will being with a different service provider make any differences?
I just thought i'll share my experiences because some of these reviews indicates issues that can occur with any service provider.
Very surprised Happy – Have had great service from DODO by bundling have halved our costs. Always helpful. Have been with them over a year now. Had a few glitches to begin with because we werent familiar with a few things but they helped us sort them out. I was reluctant to swap to them but couldn't justify paying so much to other companies. Pleasantly surprised.
Negative reviews
Product – I went to dodo as they were cheap but now they are the worst wifi is ok but my mobile they took over to which i didntwant taken that was chritmas eve it is now friday whjch they said it would im still no service it has really got me so crankynow they are not in were i livei will have to travel to find them im not happy is there a cooling off period? I want to change services now?
Sales reps lie to get sales – Sales reps give incorrect info to get sales up, send you a totally different set of terms via email afterwards. Not a good company to deal with at all
think twise before sign – dodo..not recomandable... worst service ever I seen. they will give false information when they try to get you sign. no honesty. cant trust them. one of the sales representative gave 90% wrong information to sell the home phone plan. i find out with in a week then I tried to get the information about it but not yet solved. think twise and make… Read more
sure everything is ok before sign any contracts. better ask for cooling of period atleast one month so that we can change if its not working as our wish.

Customer Service Is Poor – We will never recommend Dodo after their poor customer service. Constantly in arguments trying to sort issues. They never called back when they said they would, even though there had been an agreed time. To sort problems, we had to go to a supervisor. From being being billed before we actually moved in and connection issues. No longer have a fixed line and have gone totally mobile for both phone & internet.
so far so good – I have had the internet connected with Dodo for 2 weeks now & all is going well. Streaming videos & web browsing via multiple devices are managed without a problem in the Melbourne metro area.
Put prices up 100% without informing me – These guys are a joke - their $59.90 unlimited internet and home phone has been charged to me for $149.90 and their $16 cellphone is being charged at $66! The only thing they have not put up is the VoIP ph @$4.90, even though I fail to see why I would need a VoIP number if I have a home line and unlimited data? They charge it regardless!
Don't Ever go with them – Worst service ever. Miss information (They do it purposefully) and Hidden charges. I had to call them million times to clarify things. Still my problems are not settled. I will definitely call off the agreement if this continues to happen.

Overcharging and Miss-information – We were told that the $60.90 is made up of $30.00 line rental, $29.90 ADSL, $10 unlimited calls, NOW they are telling me that due to living in Fernvale Qld, we are classed as rural, thus the costs are ADSL $69.90, Line rental $40.00 (-$10) PLUS all calls. last bill was $87.37 NOT HAPPY JAN!!
Difficult start, ok since – It took 6 months for my mother to be connected to NBN and phone with Dodo. Absolute nightmare. One after another, the service person would find what the hold up was and vow to fix it, with no result. At last, it was found that because - I had originally signed up, paid up and then withdrew because what I agreed to was not the same on paper. A… Read more
salesperson rang and talked it over and we made a new start, including transferring the money I'd paid across to the new plan (and received refunded extra). so it eventually was found that my order had not been activated because I should have gotten full refund and paid for new order!
Another problem was following the order of the installation. We would get this after this, and then the technician would ring for an appointment etc. I ended up walking the village looking to see if there were any little boxes on any units, because there should have been one apparently, but no, the village has one box somewhere for everyone. What a disaster. I had started in February, to get her set up before I left the country, but it didn't connect for 6 months because of the poor systems they seem to have in place. Traumatic.
However, since connection, money has been taken automatically for the service and no real issues. Good rates, so glad I persevered for my mother because other plans are more than she needs to spend. There is now a Dodo representative in town, so it could have improved. It surely would want to.
Sucking your money dry – Dodo make you ring them on a 13 number and then charge you for the call. What a bunch of money hungry ratbags. So every time a customer rings them to inquire about their own service that they are already paying for they slug you 74 cents. Never ever use Dodo unless you like being cheated.
Mmmmm – I had the same experiences with these guys for two years Matt. Planning of changing supplier as soon as the current account is up in two months. They are good at shifting posts to get your money.
Seems they did the old bait and switch on me. Fools! – They said that I needed to have a landline with them to get ADSL2+ so I switched over to them and then they said that there was no ADSL available. Lying scumbags. Then they also changed how much they charged for the landline. At first it was $30 with Local, National and Moblile calls included- then it became $40. Then it became $50- but $40 only … Read more
if I signed up for 2 years. Every time you talk to someone you get a different answer. Its the classic bait and switch. Their website said that there was ADSL2+ available to my house- that's the only reason I went with them in the first place. The fool on the phone said "just because our website says we can give you ADSL that does not mean you can actually get ADSL to your house" WTH is this!!!! They seem to have a dishonest system since other reviews match my own.
dodo is Terrible – dodo lost my phone number did not port my number. I asked for another no. dodo said one to two days nine days later I don't heave a line. what can I do about it. also can I cancel my two year plan. please help. today I rang dodo to asked when will I get a new number dodo dos not now when.
Lies and more lies. Still no active NBN – Don't go near dodo. I have been lied to and misled so many times by dodo and still have no active connection yet I'm being billed for the service. I would like Dodo to come and remove their hardware from my home. Telecommunications ombudsman and legal action is my next course of action.

Lost my phone number – This company is a con. Stay clear. I have had the same phone number for 28 years thanks to dodo I now have no phone number pigs pigs pigs do not take phone calls from this company you will be sorry.
Frauds, theft and scammers that provide a horrible service – STAY AWAY! Cons: Ever since I have gone to dodo the pyramid scheme, our home phone barley works, has no dialtone or says "service is not connected, call your service provider" I have spent hours on the phone with dodos Filipino call centre who just do not care about you or your service. The internet is also with dodo too and its crap! Slow all… Read more
the time. Dodo did however sent a technician to fix it and he was really really nice, got the phone working 90% of the time instead of 10%. It should work all the time because I pay for it. But it gets better! He stuffed my internet up! Now the internet is less than 200 kilobytes per second and in the morning till about mid day its dialup speed (aka unusable 40 kilobytes per second and time to use my 4g hotspot).
Pros:
Cheap cheap cheap. However if you have a technical problem (which you will, because the service is crap) you're stuffed. 2 years of hell with this fraud pyramid scheme company.

Absolutely no idea what they are talking about, more trouble and effort than the pricing is worth – While Dodo's pricing is competitive, be aware as soon as you have any sort of technical issue you are really in deep, deep trouble. You discover this the first time you are forced to call them and you join the three ring circus trying to describe the issues to someone who can't understand you, and who you can't understand despite your bravest… Read more
efforts. I don't know how many times I have explained to Dodo staff that we are in a remote area, we have a radio telephone service, the infrastructure is owned by Telstra.. It's not a normal fixed land line service. They just don't get it, they keep insisting our cordless "radio" phones are at fault. Imbeciles!!! Moreover when they claim they have sent a technician to fix a fault they insist you don't have ("it's a billing issue sir...you must speak to Customer Service"...and yet another lengthy wait for no result), and found nothing wrong, you know it's just not true because the property can't be accessed from the main road unless there is someone at the homestead.
can I rate this company 0? please never never ever sign up with them. Trust the review, we are real – I move my apartment and the new area does not have my old internet connection line so I try to connect with Dodo since they have NBN service. The wait of the installation is long but acceptable. The annoying part is when the internet get connected then every one hour it drop. support from DODO and he end up talking from somewhere with very noisy background and does not know what he was talking much. Another annoying thing is, once you sign up with them with internet. You will receive at least 6 call from their company asking to register with other service like electricity and insurance. The sale people is unbelievable. they don't know that they are wasting my time they just keep talking what If my house burn what If my house have thief steal my property. what are you doing ? I am just trying to get INTERNET IN MY APARTMENT why you guys talk so much nonsense. plus they are a true liar. At first they always say no contract no contract... what the f*ck no contract when I cancel my account suddenly tell me that this is under contract and need to surcharge for cancellation fee. okay just charge whatever you want and I don't want to deal with your company anymore.
In conclusion, Everything is very very very suck.
Total bunch of crocs – Do not get dodo signed up, 2 weeks ago told them I had an inactive phone line, they said they would fix that. Got sms on Monday saying that we were connected, so hooked phone and modem up no internet, no dial tone. Tried new line and plug still same so I call the land line from my mobile, it rang on the mobile end but not in the house. I know why… Read more
it's because the line to the house is inactive so I canceled my service and going with Telstra nbn they are better telco.
Messy, very messy – I moved to brooklyn park mid May 2015 Rang dodo to setup my internet and home phone bundle at new home at 20 Apr 2015 Nightmare begin guys: 1. I asked dodo to sign up home phone and ADSL2+ 2. they charged me installation $318, cause they said the property hasn't got any landline installed before 3. 3 week later SMS noticed landline… Read more
installed
4. then i login to my dodo acc, only show home phone stand alone service , no ADSL!!
5. I called CS, they firstly tell me dodo can't supply me ADSL in Brooklyn Park (but the sales person said they can, plus she confirm dodo is the only service provider in that area too), then convince me to keep the landline with dodo and seek for other ISP
6. I was shocked and upsad, but what can i do? so hang up call and try to call TPG to get an offnet internet service. then dodo CS call me back surprisingly, and said they were installed the phone service to different wrong address, and my correct address actually got landline installed and I'm ok to get ADSL as well
7. furthermore, they said they made mistake, my new address actually is landline ready, and the installation only cost me $118 dollars (not $318)
8. but i need to pay $118 installation cost again, they will sign me up a new account. In regards to my previous payment, dodo promised $318 will refund within a week
Today 1/6/15, i tell you what the status is:
1. 25/5/15 SMS received installation completed (both home tel and adsl2+)
2. plug in modem, ADSL done (yahooooo), but connection drop off 20 times a day extremely annoying, I thought it may caused by my old modem problem, so i bought a new modem router, still the same (omg)
3. home tel no dial tone (omg)
4. internet speed can be vary, up to 10mb drop to 0.26mb :(
5. $318 still not refund yet
6. I begin to pay monthly fees, but only receive limited service (broken adsl line and no home tel)
7. they said the landline will be fix by 2/6/15 (tomorrow) will update you guys, but i finger cross is not that easy
8. they said after the landline fixed, the broken ADSL line will be fixed too, i finger cross that too haha
I tell you my feel now, is like kidnap by dodo (signed contract), no service, money paid (extra not refund as well), hopeless, and still have to smile while i call the CS for refund, and smile while calling tech support seeking assistance for my broken ADSL2+ internet connection. I am very regretttttttt
I will update you guys tomorrow, to see how it goes
God bless me!!!
DODO VOIP service – i have moved home with NBN and decided to go with VOIP as it was cheaper overall. i didn't want to use their modem as we had purchased a good one previously. i had to buy an ATA for my voip service. We can't seem to be getting our phone line working and DODO are useless as they only information about their modems that are configured for VOIP. … Read more
I can never speak to someone in Australia which is frustrating too. we have configured the ATA but can't make or receive calls. so I am paying for line I don't use.
Takes long time to fix faulty line – I have been with dodo for nearly 4 years. This is the first time our home line gets faulty. No dial tone and no internet either. Reported faulty on 8/01/2014 and received a message which says line will be fixed by/on 19/01/2015. 11 days in total with no phone and no internet ! It sucks!
Absolute Rubbish – The connection initially was smooth, but in around a month it started to drop out with Internet, but if you turned Modem off and on it would rectify connection, but then around 4 months ago, it began to drop out at least 8 times a day, I rang them and they told me that I would have to pay $120 for the technician if the fault is on my property, I… Read more
thought this is ridiculous, when the initial install was done by a telstra technician, who in my idea checked for all faults on my property prior to installing line socket, so therefore if the fault is on the property it should have come up, and hence I would have not connected. Then a technician allegedly turned up when I was home, but never knocked, but he left a calling card, saying there was no fault from their end, 10 days later I got a letter from Dodo telling that there had been a fault in the line and network, and it was resolved. But couple months later, same issues, now the latest internet works with drop outs, but with no phone dial tone. Guess what Technician rang phone, it worked, 4hrs layer no phone dial tone again, they want me to pay for him to comeback. I give Dodo this upon me wanting to disconnect they have waived call out fee if fault is on my property, but both times no appointment set by a technician arriving, and last technician said he was outside walked out no one anywhere. So I am done with Dodo and Telstra technicians not giving a stuff, so I will be contacting the Ombudsman to see if I can disconnect with 10 months on my contract. Do not get dodo, its bad service in telecommunications terms, plus they give your number to heaps of telemarketers, had to ask for a silent number. Done with them!
Took six weeks to get the phone going then when I changed my plan – I upgraded my plan for more internet and the phone went off. I put up with six weeks without the phone again. I am so cranky. Dodo dared to tell me that I wasn't being charged for having a home phone - I don't know what their point is - does anyone else? Yes I did pay for the phone calls and a connection fee. How very rude. January 13th 2015 Update:
As a result of not having a functioning phone, I had to switch from Dodo to a real service provider. After more than 4 weeks waiting for the phone to be connected, Dodo would not release the landline number to my new service provider. I had to resort to getting a new number which really annoys me. The phone was up and running within 12 hours. Dodo is rubbish. Try ausbbs!
absolutely magnificent – Hi ive been with Dodo a few years now & wild horses wouldnt get me away.Im on there deluxe phone & also adsl1 internet. Happy with the product sick of the calls – I'm happy with the phone and Internet service. The only thing I cannot stand is the daily sales phone calls. They are constantly calling me about new products and they are extremely pushy if I don't answer they call numerous times a day. Once my contract ends I will not be continuing with them due to this annoying issue.
No Problems – We have been with Dodo a number of years now with no problems we have unlimited broadband and of course the landline I don't know why people are having these problems here in wa they use Optus lines
Dodo - the name says it all! – I have been a long term customer of dodo with the internet, last year when i moved i decided to go with dodo for my land line - what a mistake. Firstly, my home phone line had a fault and we were without a home phone for at least 4 weeks, they graciously gave me free wireless broadband. I had a direct debit agreement with dodo however i never received an invoice (which was to be emailed) even though they were taking money out of my account, when i rang up to complain the feedback was that they couldn't understand why i was so annoyed about not receiving an invoice and after threatening to contact the ombudsman they then sent 4 months of invoices.
I have now changed back to the devil that i know (telstra), however that hasn't stopped dodo in threatening me that i am going to lose my home phone number if i decide to change, that is a load of rubbish, they simply cannot do that.
