Not happy – I have a DC22 and the motor head died, it wont spin anymore, the rest of the vacuum works well. Is it possible to by a new head. If not i wont be buying a dyson again. After reading the reviews it seems like common issue. Show details

Excellent Customer Service – We purchased this Dyson (our first Dyson) in April 2008, and was amazed at how much dirt was picked up from our floors (quite frightening actually). Everything works as expected, but turbine head brush could be easier to clean hair from. We have had a few issues with it though: 1. The plastic barrel cracking near the handle attachment point… Read more

after having it for nearly 3 years (approx. 1 year out of warranty), and the turbine head seized after about 2.5 years (6 months out of warranty). We contacted Dyson and on both occasions, they replaced the items free of charge even though the vacuum was out of warranty. Each phone call was less than 3 minutes. All they needed was the serial number (registered to us). A+ for customer service.

Not good – Full in 2 minutes, loosing suction power. The motor goes well but you must empty the waste tank after just 2 rooms. Filters too delicate, better to clean 2 or 3 times per month and replace after 6 months. Not satisfied with the brand, the value for money isn’t good. My first and last Dyson.  Show details

Motorhead has failed AGAIN – We have owned several Dysons from the DC01 on-wards - we currently have a DC22, DC54 and a V8 portable. The DC22 was purchased in April 2009 - the motorhead failed in June2015 and we purchased a new one. Now, just as it goes out of the 2 year warranty the replacement head has failed. Dyson refuse to replace it unless I pay them $125. We have 3… Read more

vacuum cleaners in a normal sized house - one for upstairs and one for downstairs, the portable for the quick vacuum around the living area - so guess how much use they get - but after just over 2 years of "an easy life" the head fails again.

We have had a Miele washing machine - used a LOT more each week than the vacuum cleaners - its over 15 years old and it is still working fine.

Guess what make vacuum cleaner we will be buying to replace the DC22 - I would prefer to pay several times the cost of the replacement powerhead and buy a Miele cleaner - bye bye Dyson.

Hose broke, electrocuted me, Dyson couldn't care less – After 12 months of light use, the hose in my vacuum became detached from the wand and there were two wires which, left bare, electrocuted me. I phoned Dyson to alert them of the safety hazard, and the telephone operator said there was nothing they could do as it was out of warranty.

Lousy motorhead – The motorhead started giving issues and it just died. So bought a new motorhead for $150. Used it really carefully. Then the same problem. At times it wont turn on..then it will work. Last week it died again! Nothing to do with my hose contacts and whatever. Just a crappy motorhead design.

Not worth the money – They say you get what you pay for...not in this case. We spent good money on our Dysons and we never expected this. We're currently on our 3rd power head and of course, today, it has failed me again. I live in a new house with no pets, and I must say, I keep my house very clean and I clean my filters regularly. So if its not because I'm miss… Read more

DEAD POWERHEADS – My sister and my wife (on her recommendation) both own DC22s. Both are on our third powerheads - some of which have been replaced by Dyson under warranty - . Not the product I expected ! – My wife insisted we buy a Dyson only because of its reputation. How wrong. We bought the DC22 and all we had was issues with the motorhead. Returned twice to Dyson to be told it was the head and on one occasion they replaced it. The motorhead just stops working and now it is outside warranty. Very dissappointed Dyson. I decided to look at it… Read more

myself and discovered no power goes to the head. There is cable continuaty all along the hose (from base side) all the way to the PCB in motorhead. I looked at the on/off circuitry only to discover it is a RF/wireless board and it operates with 2 x AAA batteries. So the DC22 is operated via a wireless controller. The wireless controller will power on/off the unit but not the motorhead. My gut feeling is the motorhead does not switch on, either because the transmitter or the receiver (located in the base unit) is stuffed. I have not opened the base only because I am fed up with it, and I cant be bothered. Dyson - It seems this is a common problem with the DC22. As another reviewer mentioned, the product should be recalled. Theo. Its size Expensive, unreliable, Service depart has let us down.

Very poor in many ways – The only thing that's ok is the suction. The telescopic wand on ours failed, though Dyson did replace it for free. We have the non-turbine head. It doesn't oick up all that well, and the head grips the carpet very hard, and so it's a real effort to push and pull it.As a result I just strained my back really badly thro' the effort expended. Quite disappointed especially when it was so expensive – We bought our DC22 a couple of years ago after hearing how much my mother & best friend loved their Dysons (although they have larger slightly older models). From the first day i was disappointed. Our main grioe with it is that the handle or wand is way too short. Being only 5'4" my back kills after cleaning only a couple of rooms from having… Read more

to bend down to do a good enough job. So imagine my husband's frustration being well over 6'.

Its cumbersome, Rolls over all the time, the cord's way too short, its really heavy, heads are difficult to change, emptying it is a pain and the filter and turbo head are always clogged and annoying to clean.

But I mentioned the wand height is by far the most annoying. We even emailed dyson to ask if a longer one could be attached but we're told no.

We've honestly just put up with having to use it as it was so expensive it's not something that can just go out and replace.

I have actually considering purchasing a DC35 but after all if the poor reviews it just goes to show that the more expensive products aren't necessarily the best. Good suction Cumbersome,, back breaking as wand is too short and is very heavy.

Not happy Jan! – It was just out of warranty (2 years 5 months) when the motor blew up. Cost $260 to repair. I've still got a second hand Hoover Celestial about 40 years old that I use in the shed and for the car mats and it's still going strong, you go figure. It worked well for a while. Motor too fragile.

Dead DC22 – Our Dyson DC22 doesn't get much use. Our cleaner vacuums the floor regularly with his own machine, so the Dyson only gets a brief run every few weeks. Despite this light use, the motor now appears to have failed. Shortly after we bought the machine a friend (and former Dyson owner) warned us that the motors are fragile and prone to early failure.… Read more

DC22 Cumbersome and annoying – I bought this as a quick buy in desperation as I thought my old one had died. I did some research and decided on it after reading some reviews, but now after paying a hefty price, wish I hadn't. As my husband has said after helping me numerous times with trying to get the bin emptied....It's a bad design. The bin has been a pain from day one… Read more

trying to empty it, and the bin cover is very flimsy compared to my old one. The head is difficult to get off when I want to vacuum in small places, as well the shaft of the nozzle being too thick to get into some places under cupboards. The only thing I can say in it's favour is the suction strength. We still have our original vacuum cleaner from 10 yrs ago, the DC 05, which I now use mostly for floor vacuuming. I only use the DC22 for carpeted areas. The suction. Cumbersome, awkward, chord too short.

Disappointed. Dysons are over-rated – The demonstration at the store was very convincing. However, the Turbine head does not work well on our hand-tufted wool rug. It keeps pulling the wool out of the rug. The 'one-touch' emptying bin requires me to pull hair and dust stuck on the inside every single time! Very unpleasant and definitely not one-touch. Same with turbine head. Not easy… Read more

to clean hair and dust stuck on head. Our old cheap vacuum cleaner does just as good a job and was easier and more efficient to use. (and I never had to pull any hair out or clean anything).

Also it is not as powerful as I expected, it does not pick up everything in one go. I often have to go over the same spot several times, both on carpet and on tiles.

Lesson learnt is to do your homework before you buy. Do not merely listen to friends and family or salesperson. Check out other brands. Dyson is NOT necessarily the best. Easy to manouvre Inefficient, high maintenance and unhygienic

Bad – A total waste of money. I have used cheaper more efficient cleaners. The machine is heavy and not very user friendly. It is extremely cumbersome to drag around. The motor head is good on carpet but it seems to stop and jam regularly. Not efficient at all on wooden floors. Does not pick up dust and fluff on hard floors.

Good – We've had this for one year now and absolutely love it. It's small size and weight means the carpets actually get cleaned more often. We have since bought the DC31 handheld and the two work really well together for a house with an indoor dog. Compact, lighter than full-size barrel dysons, motorhead is great for pet hair. I agree with previous post - cord is a little short. Motorhead blew with a bang in first two months but service department were very good in replacing the part and servicing the rest of the machine.

Good – My long hair does get caught in the motor-head, but the head is well designed to easily disassemble, and remove hair (which is easy to cut away). Not a perfect tool, but gets near a perfect result. I am allergic to dust and get asthma and have never had a reaction when using this cleaner (I always do with other cleaners). My carpets came up cleaner then ever before.Power to machine and motor-head in the handle, great feature.Dust catchment container is easy to empty. The cord is too short I need it to be 5m longer.Wand is too fat and will not fit under furniture.Motor-head is heavy to push around.Dust catchment area is too small, requiring frequent emptying.Hose is very thick and difficult to use and difficult wrap around the cleaner to store. While the machine is not as heavy as the bigger sibling, is still quite heavy, though it is reassuring that it is solidly built.

Pretty good – I picked the DC22 because of it's size. It was lighter and easier to pick up than the larger models. I'm happy with the size and weight. The motorhead has great suction and does a great job on my carpets. The only fault that I can pick is that the canister fills up quickly and emptying it is awkward. located is quite small so when you open the canister over the bin not everything comes out. Usually a big clump of dust remains in the canister. So then I stick my fingers or sticks in there to dislodge and pull the dust out. Not nice. Does a great job on my carpets. Canister is too small and awkward to empty.

Light weight Turbo vacuum – We have had our new Dyson vacuum for several months now and are happy with the light weight as we are an ageing couple. not been disappointed and would recommend it to people who have trouble with the weight of some units and to older people who struggle with huge weighty vacuum's. Reliable and value for money. Smaller size Dyson is full of features and high performance – After a lot of research I chose the DC22 over other Dyson models due to its smaller size and weight. It is much easier to maneuver and carry up and down stairs, than its full size brothers. It still has great features of the larger ones, such as HEPA filters, telescopic hose and multiple heads and tool attachments, just in a smaller package. Just… Read more

like the Dyson reputation claims, the suction is excellent and I am very happy with it so far.

Other reviews have claimed that the smaller sized bin fills up too quickly but I don't see this as a problem - I live in a 3 bedroom 2-storey townhouse and after the cleaning the whole house the bin still didn't look full to me. I have a small child so a fair bit of mess but no pets inside so im not battling with pet hair.In any case, since I have a bad back I would still rather empty the bin more frequently than carry a heavier vacuum around. I have tried the larger DC23 model at a friends Place and there really is a big difference. I also tried out the new DC39 BALL style at the shop which was ok to maneuver but the hose did not wrap around for easy storage. So the DC22 was a great balance of features for me.

The DC22 comes with 2 separate floor heads - the full-size hard floor swivel tool is wonderful on my Timber floorboards and the 2nd (slightly smaller than full size) turbine head rides around hooked on the back of the machine until I need it for my rugs. There is also a crevice/brush combo tool and a smaller "stair" head that looks like it would be good for upholstery too.

It's quite expensive, as all Dysons are, but my last vacuum lasted 10 years so I think worth the money spent. If you are shopping for a Dyson this is equivalent in price to the base model full size eg DC23 multifloor.

The cord, at 5m, is also on the short side but I don't think it's a deal breaker.

Overall I'm really happy with this purchase and think its a great alternative to the big chunky full-size models. Great suction, comes with 2 heads, lighter to carry, smaller to store, telescopic hose Expensive - RRP $799, but I bought much cheaper on sale. Similar price to base model full-size Dyson anyway. Some households (eg with indoor pets) might find the barrels needs frequent emptying.

OK – Bought this after being very happy with the Dyson hand held (awesome). DC 22 not worth the money. I got it on sale for $200 off which took the sting out of it a bit but not much. Terrible – Value for money not worth the hype. They do not seem to last very long & parts are fragile. This is my second one and last bagless machine! My bagged vaccum has lasted longer and has better suction. Easy to vacuum, but does not give a deep clean. Over time bagless machines get very dirty & alot of dirt & bacteria stays within the machine.

Bad – We returned our $900 Dyson DC22 motorhead vaccum after 2 months. The motorhead stops working when hair gets caught around the brushes.
