My heat pump (aka reverse cycle air conditioner) that I rely on to heat the whole house broke down a few weeks ago and I'm waiting on a warranty claim. It's the middle of winter in Tasmania 0-10 degrees, so my neighbour kindly lent me her Dyson AM09. I have an open plan living area, so of course it can't heat the whole kitchen, dining and living… Read more

area, but it can quickly and quietly heat the bedroom or bathroom with the door closed using the oscillation feature. It's portable and lightweight, so easy to move it from room to room with me when required. When I get home to a cold house I move it to the room I'm going to use to warm up, and then put it directly in front of me so I can watch TV in the evenings and be comfortable. It came with a remote control, so I can turn it on and off from bed when I use it in the bedroom. The cat will happily sit in front of it too. I'm looking online to buy one if I can find it on sale, and it's been a real life saver when I had no other heating options. (My neighbour got this one from JB Hi-Fi.)

I placed an order on 04/05/2025 through the Dyson Australia official website for $448, and the product was delivered on 07/05/2025. Unfortunately, upon first use, it displayed an F2 error. I followed the troubleshooting instructions provided, and while it occasionally worked, the issue persisted. I eventually reached out to Dyson Support, and the… Read more

chatbot arranged a repair and provided a barcode for return shipping. I sent the item back on 17/05/2025. However, I have not received any confirmation from Dyson regarding the return. I had to rely on the Australia Post app to confirm that the item was delivered back to Dyson on 20/05/2025.

As of today, I have not received any updates, acknowledgments, or apologies regarding the issue or the return. This has been quite disappointing, especially considering I am still within the 45-day return policy. It raises concerns about the level of support I might receive if a product were to fail outside the warranty period.

I hope this feedback is taken seriously. Based on my experience so far, I feel compelled to leave a 1-star rating due to the product malfunction and the lack of communication and support.

Very satisfied – I purchased my Dyson AM05 in December 2016, after my cat knocked it over not long after purchase it was very noisy.. now after 7.5 years (June 2024) it is still going strong heating. With the original battery in the remote. I have since retired this item and purchased a newer model. HP03BN Show details ·  1

Does what we want it to do! – We've had this model for about 18 months and it's been very useful. When we first bought it we were living in an old draughty split level house. The unit not only cleaned the air in the living areas (we were nearby a highway and lots of dust due to nearby development) but also moved cooled air up to the higher level in summer and warmed us in… Read more

winter. At our newer house it's great for warming us in the theatre room and cleans the air of various cooking smells, even before I've noticed them sometimes! It displays what different pollutants are in the air and works to clean them up. I'd give it 5 stars if it was easier to move around. Seeing some negative reviews I can only say it delivered what we bought it for.

Returned it as it was rubbish – I had high hopes that this was going to be great. I unpacked it, (didn't realise how small it was when I purchased it online) small but hopefully mighty I thought, up onto my drawers to give it some height. Turned it on to full power, stood only a few steps from it and I felt barely anything. Packed it back up and returned it. Very disappointed! Show details

2 down 1 to go – Purchased 3 of these for our new house excepting Dyson quality, sadly it’s not what we’ve got. 1 just stopped working a year after purchase and now the 2nd has done the exact same thing! Now the last one we have to move around the house is starting to play up! Great. Thanks Dyson almost 2K down the drain. Show details

Cold? What cold? – Bought four of these units based on how happy I am with my old but still great Dyson vac. It is Summer at the moment and the nights are either warm or hot. None of the units cool the room or air, even if you turn the fan up to 10. Bitterly disappointed. I am not confident at all that the units will warm a cold bedroom in winter, seeing as how the ‘cool’ doesn’t. Am going to return the units and get my money back, then buy something else. Show details

It’s aesthetically pleasing, but performance underwhelms – Picked one up half price. The build quality is pretty nice and it looks great. In regards to performance though, even the lowest setting is louder than a $20 pedestal fan. On heating mode, it draws about 1300w and does quickly heat a 20m3 room - albeit loudly. My partner and I don’t mind white noise to sleep, but this is something to be mindful… Read more

Hugely Disappointing – I have had this model for a few years now. I understand that it has been superseded and I am not surprised at that. consuming heaps of electricity because it takes so long to reach the set temperature. ( I aim for 21 degrees). I live in an apartment so it is not a huge space to heat. I note this model was recalled but I have not been notified of that. Although replaced by a new model, I’d urge no one to purchase this model either second hand or new ( if there’s still old stock around. Totally unhappy and not recommend.

A gentle heat that can put you to sleep – Attractive, modern with an app that allows you to control the unit remotely. Handy if you’re coming home on a cold night. The unit doesn’t rapidly heat a room nor does it pump out huge amounts of heat however it makes a bedroom cosy at night. The filler is great if you have allergens. I wouldn’t recommend for large open areas. Show details

My experience – I am livid with my hot/cool Dyson purifier. It cost a fortune and the things I’ve experienced shouldn’t happen. I have rung and it’s booked for a return because it hums quite loudly, even when off. Also, the thermostat doesn’t regulate the temperature at all. For the second time this new problem has occurred and I am furious. It’s hot here so I put the fan on. It’s switched to heating on its own and his already hot room at 3:30am that I finally got down to 22 (I woke up and hour ago and checked) got back up to 25. When I checked my app to find out if the baby monitor thermometer was wrong, I saw that the heater was on and it was in fact 25 degrees in his room! How is this possible and what on earth is going on!? This is so incredibly dangerous to have in a baby’s room. I’m livid.

I no longer worry about dropping temperature in kids room – As the winter started to arrive, I was in a hunt for a heater for my kids room as the temperature in that room used to drop to around 17 degrees in Sydney. I looked up Dyson website and their heater was on sale and the best part was that I was able to return the product back to Dyson (within 45 days) if I didn't like it for any reason. I decided… Read more

to give it a go as there was nothing to lose really.

We all know how Dyson products look, so no surprise that the machine was beautiful right out of the box. I setup the heater and it was up and running within minutes from arriving.

First night, I wanted to keep the heater in my room to test it out and see how well it would work in kids room - needless to say that I was impress that it was able to maintain the temperature in the bed room to the set level.

Operation:

I setup the heater to 22 degrees (you can setup between 1 to 37) and after operating for 15-20 mins, the room reached the 22 degrees mark and it went to stand by mode (meant it's no longer taking significant energy). Once it went into the standby mode, it would only come back on when the temperature drops below 22 degrees and stay on for few minutes before returning back to the standby mode. So I noticed that despite leaving the heater on overnight, it was only really on for about hr, hr and a half which is great considering the amount of energy this heater use.

You can also use timer (15 mins to 9 hr) to turn it off automatically but I don't use that feature.

Energy Consumption:

This was my major concern when buying the heater as I didn't want unnecessary expensive bills. It is power consuming device, no question about it but the way was operating meant that even if I was leaving it on overnight, it was only using the maximum power for only 10-20% of the time at night.

When you turn on the heater, it starts with using 2500w for a minute or two before going down and stay stable at around 1700w. Once the room temperature reaches the desire level, the machine goes in the standby mode it takes around 2.67w.

In the past 30 days I have used the heater for 400 hours and it has only used 77.7 kWh in electricity which equates to around $17 with the current electricity price of 22 cents/ kWh. $17 a month to keep the kids room at comfortable level, I am sure any parent would be ok with it.

Pros: - Very easy to keep it clean; - Very safe for kids room as it doesn't get too much hot and there are no blades; - Looks beautiful; - Works as a fan in summer (but I am yet to use it as a fan); - Not as energy hungry as I initially expected.

Cons: - Expensive; - A bit noisy when on full speed fan mode; - Remote is required to use most of the features so you are always looking for a remote as it is very small and easy to misplace (even though you can attach it to the top of the machine as it has inbuilt magnet); - No smart functions which was a big let down considering the cost (so you can't operate using app, Alexa or Google device).

Will I buy this again? - For sure, but mainly for kids room. I currently use this heater with a smart plug mainly to turn it off using my voice.

Not worth the price you pay for it – I bought this primarily as a heater for a bedroom. It works pretty well for the this task and only takes up a very small footprint which is good for me. But there a few issues with it that I don't think are acceptable at the price point. Firstly, when heating, once the room reaches the desired temperature and the heater stops it gently blows cool… Read more

are until such time as the room temperature drops and it starts heating again. Not such a big issue if you're not sitting next to it but at the moment it is under my desk in a small office and when it does this is blows cold air on to my legs, stupid.

Secondly, again when it stops after reaching the desired room temperature, it has a whir sound coming from it because there is some fan still running in there. I assume this is the same fan that causes the cold air to blow out of it. I had tried to sleep with it in a bedroom and when it turns off the whirring is enough to make it hard to fall asleep. Some may not have an issue with it but I don't think the heater should be making noise if it is not actively heating.

Thirdly, there is an electrical hum when it is turned off. If you turn it off via the remote but keep it connected to power it there is a hum which again, if I have it in a bedroom and are trying to sleep, means I have to turn it off at the power point as it is otherwise annoying.

As a heater, for my purposes it does the job. As a fan it is OK, not great. In terms of an overall product it is not worth the money. Not sure what other options there are but surely a heater that doesn't blow cold air when the rooms meets a certain temperature and doesn't make noise like this one does when not operating isn't too much to ask given the price.

Perfect for winter – Overall satisfied with the product, style and design is perfect. Been using this for a year now and happy that we purchased it. Worth the price. I am very sensitive to cold and had to use the heater most of the time around the year because I have asthma. Heating worked wonders.
