Overall sentiment regarding eBay is mixed, with a notable volume of frustration concerning customer support and dispute resolution. While some users report positive transaction experiences, others highlight difficulties with shipping times, seller reliability, and navigating platform policies outside the standard guarantee window.
Whether you are a buyer or a seller, eBay is not the place to be. They are near impossible to reach to get customer service with endless loops with AI chatbots. If you need help as a buyer the liveagents will promise things and then refuse to give what they promised. If you are a seller, they provide little to no support especially with… Read more
Chargebacks. Even if you as a seller get defrauded they just shrug and say you aren't covered. I use to sell a lot with eBay, but I've since moved my inventory elsewhere. I'm tired of how they treat you, I'm tired of the constant pressure to 'advertise' at ridiculous rates of 12% plus of your gross takings. I'm sick of the fees on postage. Everything about eBay is below standard and you'll be lucky if it doesn't glitch on a daily basis. My advice is sell and buy elsewhere.
Returned items over 3 weeks ago. eBay's own returns page still states: "Australia Post scanned your item, so we're processing your refund. Your refund was issued on [date] and will take 3–5 business days to process." As of today, after two follow ups with Chat agents promising the same "3–5 business days" for a refund, but still no refund received a further 5 business days later. Show details
Thinking of selling on eBay to earn some money? Think again. 2 weeks prior to this review, I have listed an item and sold it in a relatively short time, item shipped the next day, delivered and all seemed OK. Now over $660 of mine are sitting with eBay Australia who ensured I may never get it. I have been eBay client for over 25 years and have a… Read more
impeccable star record. Some time ago, when this large corporation made very unfavourable changes affecting sellers, I stopped selling on eBay. Recent events led me back to sell one item on eBay. However, I cannot get paid because I am unable to change my payout banking details. eBay insists on getting my full OLD banking details before approving the change, therefore keeping my money indefinitely. As this account was closed (from memory) decades ago, I no longer have any of those details. This seems like a scam and a behemoth of a corporation like eBay is getting away with it. I wander what bonuses their legal advisor got to come up with this scheme. My advice is: avoid dealing with eBay like a plague. Despite being fortunate having 2 university degrees and being actively involved in computer User Interface Design, I had to use AI to help me to navigate through the eBay red-tape maize. "Spoke" via a type chat with 2 eBay agent to no avail, despite being identified via an SMS message and a code to my mobile phone.

Unable to leave feedback eBay Australia – Purchased two faulty bags from eBay on 7 Sep 22, left negative feedback for the vendor imart-au, eBay removed my negative feedback for NOT reason. Show details
Very bad customer service – I recently sold a GPU on eBay the seller decided to return it claiming it's faulty I told eBay I took a video straight B4 sending it showing that it works and took another one after I received it and yet they charged me $66 between fees and postage and simply told me to relist it like I'm ever gonna use eBay again Show details

I have been a regular and keen user of eBay for 24 years. I have recommended it to others. I can no longer do that. Ebay has now made some very dubious changes and, in my view, is indulging in false advertising with its "Free to sell" campaign. Their campaign is based on a process change such that there is no longer a charge to *list*an item… Read more
for sale. However, a mandatory charge is added to the cost for the buyer for 'protection' and eBay still take a commission, which is unreasonably large. So, it is NOT 'Free to Sell' only free to list - not the same thing at all. - I consider that to be misleading advertising.
A major change has been made in that eBay has now brought all payments in-house so that buyers now pay eBay (previously the buyer paid the seller directly) and eBay pays the seller once the item has been confirmed as received and as advertised. On the surface this may seem reasonable. Not only is their no alternative option to this but what's worse is that *now eBay requires a seller to provide bank account login details* in order to receive payment once an item sells. No alternative is offered and, if my experience is common, the company is not prepared to discuss the issue but simply continually sends emails that you must complete this process.
Although eBay say that this process is *safe & secure*, they use a third party to conduct the bank verification and given the vast number of online frauds, thefts & hacks that are reported, including interference even with government and major corporation computer networks, I don't accept that giving bank details to another company of which I've never heard is reasonable or sensible. In addition, this insistence is not necessary because there are other safe ways to verify a client and provide payment.
So, much to my regret, despite 24 years and a 100% reputation for buying and selling, I can no longer recommend eBay and will no longer sell there and probably not buy there any longer.
Do Not Buy anything from This Seller,as they will STALL YOU with excuses & then after 30days on ebay,NO RECOURSES Still Waiting for goods after nearly 6 months & they will no reply to any messages left on EBAY They OWE me $26.40 & EBAY is Useless
Ebay like to accuse you trying to sell outside ebay, for years we have been listing the exact pick up address on our listing without problems until they have appointed the current ceo for ebay au, constantly false accusations n deleted listing we have posted, we have also lost lot of sales since they deleted our listings, wasting time n energy n lost many sales, stupidity is the only reason how they loved to destroy their ebay sellers!!! I bought an item, a water jet flosser from a seller on eBay. They give only a 30 day period and offer no buyer protection once over 30 days even if the seller has multiple complaints about the seller ripping people off in the same way. AliExpress is a far safer platform and offer better buyer protection. And at least they take action on… Read more
disreputable sellers committing fraud. I did contact the seller who stated it had been lost in the mail. Did offer a refund or to resend. All stated to eBay and they could check the messages. They just no longer care about customers.
Their site made my listings hard to find and delete when I sold them elsewhere. This enables a buyer to buy a product that should of been removed but could not be found. As a result, they charged me higher fees around 23%. They protect the coin sellers selling over graded coins as well. They charged those 23% fees for postage as well to me,… Read more
making the buyer angry at postage costs and making it look like your making profit from postage. Don't sell or buy coins on eBay. eBay has lost my business for life. See the fee break down below. On top of all this they charged me around $27 per month for my eBay shop. Good bye eBay and you will lose many coin buyers and sellers.

I won an auction that ran its complete and full time. The page asked to be reloaded while it determined the winner, it reloaded and said I was the winner. I was very excited to have won the auction. As always I immediately clicked on the pay now link on the page. The page loaded a page of similar items (photographic gear) and not checkout. I was a… Read more
little bewildered at first but went to my eBay and refreshed the page to find no notification saying pay now and the auction not listed under my purchased items. Then I received a text from the seller Akashic -camera, a Japanese based seller saying the item had already been sold and the auction was running by mistake. LIAR. The seller obviously did not like the price the auction concluded for and reneged on his and eBays duty to fulfil the auction terms. I contacted eBay through the "Tell us what you think" link and told them what happened. I highly doubt they could careless and I highly doubt I will hear anything back from them. I replied to the sellers cowardly message and told him he was a coward and a liar.
Also to do with user trust on eBay I left negative feedback for a different seller who thoroughly deserved it (something I rarely ever do) and eBay removed the negative feedback when the seller had a little cry to them about it. I did not use bad language or anything of the sort, I just stated the facts of what the seller had done. I gather from this that eBay abuse their ownership of the platform to protect making them money against all else.
Thought I would give this "sell for free" on ebay after they straight up stole from me last time I used them. Well first sale and already lied and stolen from me. Sale $267 - payout - $183!!! Someone please explain to me, how is nearly $80 taken "FREE" PUK THIS STEALING COMPANY. of course I never hear back from them!!! Show details
I’ve felt this way for a while now, but eBay is an e-commerce platform that protects the seller’s interests far more than the buyer’s (consumer's). Even when the item I ordered never reached me and was delivered to the wrong address, simply because the seller provided a tracking number—even though it was for a wrong delivery—eBay made the refund… Read more
process incredibly complicated and difficult. What I’ve learned and experienced this time is that the platform has so many loopholes. (I won't go into detail to prevent other sellers from copying it, but) if a seller deliberately decides to scam someone, they can easily make free money by exploiting eBay's seller protection policies and system. Furthermore, if a plumbing part I purchased (like a shower hose) starts leaking in less than a year, the seller is completely off the hook as long as they choose to simply ignore my messages. For a seller to be held accountable, the product—which should normally last for years without any issues—would have to fail almost immediately after purchase. Even then, there is still no guarantee that eBay would protect the buyer.

I am writing to formally complain about eBay’s handling of my defective item case. I purchased a brand new TaylorMade Qi10 MAX Driver from seller “mega hit japan” on April 4, 2026 for AU $525.50. defect.
When I contacted the seller they refused all responsibility. When I contacted eBay, I was told nothing could be done and was directed to contact my bank.
This is completely unacceptable. eBay’s Money Back Guarantee explicitly covers defective items. A 60-day return window does not override consumer rights regarding defective goods. I have photographic evidence clearly showing the structural failure of this club.
Overnight (June 10 2026) I was out of nowhere charged $4.99 for an ebay plus subscription I cancelled last year and never used! item and is advised the cost of Postage and thereby selects Yes and purchases the item via CC (Debit Card). The Seller recieves the Information and is advised to Pack & Send the item by a certain date. So far all very good. Now we have eBay that takes the Sale Price and Postage and adds these together and this becomes the Total of the Sale (Inflated) Next eBay subtracts approx 9% for Site Placement Fees (ok) Next eBay subtracts an agreed Fee for Ad Promotional Placement (in this case 7%) Going good so far. The item is Sent and Notice is emailed to advised the item has been posted + then another notice is sent to advise the item has been recieved by the Post Dept (Courier Service) + another notice is recieved to say the item has been delivered. Supposedly the Buyer then has 3 days to check the item for breakages or the correct item was sent as was asked for originally. This is now the Complaint side against "eBay" As a Seller eBay allows for a "No Returns Policy" which should alert a Buyer be careful (the old Buyer Beware) Not worth eBay having this Section in the agreements at the start. A Buyer has the right at any time up to 3 months to Return the Purchased item with a FULL REFUND and the Seller has NO Say in this Procedure as eBay just deducts the Price out of the Sellers Account. eBay advises you have 3 days to try working out a compromise with the Buyer and mitigate the Losses but the Buyer doesn't seem to have to comply with this procedure. When this feature is known it's Totally open for a Buyer to abuse the System and in a typical Major Company everything is dealt with in FAQ's - Go here for that - do this by this time to comply - EBay has a section that says "would you like us to Step in on your behalf" - again did you do this, did you give ample time - did you try working things out with the Buyer - But again as from the beginning should the Buyer ignore everything the Seller is totally in the Dark and out of Pocket with not a leg to stand on Pease eBay Sellers if you have experienced this situation Get on Board and add Comments. I have been on eBay as a seller and customer for years. Nothing but the best service if things go wrong. Mostly things go right! Amazing site for buying and selling anything. For me the main issue with ebay.com.au is you have overseas sellers, with very long maximum delivery times, pretending they are from Australia, so when you order a product you receive it 3-4weeks later from a seller that claims they are in only in the next state. This is why you need to buy from… Read more
sellers that have max Estimated delivery date of less than 7-10days, anything longer is an overseas seller. They also have found a way to hide the overseas tracking information before it gets to Australia, so it says nothing for 2 weeks while its traveling overseas.
I recently purchased a 100ml bottle of Christian Dior Eau Sauvage Elixir from this Ebay supplier. It was at a considerable discount to normal retail as one would expect. On opening and trying it, it was immediately obvious that it wasn't the real article, in other words it was fake or counterfeit. The initial notes were faint and faded to nothing after a few moments. Given that Elixir is supposed to be very strong and last for hours this is nothing short of fraud. Efforts to involve Ebay corporate have met with a dismissive nothing that violates their rules response. As for aimer.au-99 the actual supplier, there's no response at all. This is a salutary reminder that the Ebay money back guarantee is meaningless. Even feedback which on this supplier is supposedly 92% positive is no guide and unreliable. Beware of this vendor people.
