Worth its weight in gold for us – I bought the Ergobaby Performance when my son was 5 weeks old as he would sleep only on me and I couldn't just sit there holding him all day anymore. I chose the Performance as it was summer and it also came with the infant insert. It took a bit of practice putting on but after a while it was very easy and comfortable; the insert helped as it kept… Read more

baby contained, particularly useful when I had to put him down as he would stay snugly enclosed and asleep. Little did I know then that he would sleep in it for all his day naps until he was 6 months! Great way to enable me to get stuff done, keep baby happy and much easier than lugging a pram around. It also helped immensely with his reflux in the early months as it kept him upright. Easy to chuck in the washing machine, insert and all. The little pocket is big enough to keep a phone, keys and card in and the cover is good enough for shade - I did prefer it not completely covering baby's head as he was so young and I could see there was no obstruction. Definitely my number one baby purchase.

The best baby product I have bought, hands down – I've actually come all the way to this site just to write this review because I love this carrier SO much. As a dad I call this my 'secret weapon': whenever my little boy (now 8 weeks) is screaming his head off, I get up like Superman, pop on the Ergobaby, and slip him in there. He's silent within 60 seconds — if not, a little short walking and… Read more ·  2

he's out like a light. The ONLY exception is when he's genuinely hungry (and even then, I can usually get him to sleep).

Words can't express how grateful his mum is for this thing. I have him almost more than her — I work from home and constantly have a sleeping bub strapped to my chest (like right now as I write).

I use this thing way more than the expensive pram we have. I just prefer having my hands free, and there's something special about having the baby on your chest.

The weight distribution isn't bad; if you do it right, 90% of the weight is on your hips (you have to do it up REAL tight). I do get some mild shoulder pain from extended wearing but I think that's an adjustment issue which I'll be able to solve.

I have a Ventus, which apparently is discontinued. But I adore it.

The only real cons I can think of are firstly that it can be a little fiddly (though very doable) to do up the straps behind your back... and secondly, that it's really hot. Like, really hot. And this is supposed to be the coolest model of all. I guess some heat is unavoidable when you have a human being pressed flat against your chest, but I find I cannot use this thing for long unless the weather where I am is below 25C. A part of this may be the infant insert, perhaps it'll be cooler when he's out of that.

Speaking of the infant insert, it's not fiddly at all. I read some reviews saying that it was. My bub loves it; doesn't find it claustrophobic at all. And it's super easy to use — attach it once and don't worry again until you need to take it off for washing.

I highly, highly recommend this carrier. I also own a BabyBjorn one and the difference is night and day. This is just so much more comfortable to wear, and it puts my son to sleep like the other one can only dream of.

I am about to travel to Japan with my son and I fully intend to have him in my Ergo for the majority of the trip. Not even bringing a pram. Seriously, they're that good — you need one.

Definitely would not reccomend – I did my research and came to the conclusion the Ventus was for me as I live in a very warm area and I was planning on using this carrier while I went to some fitness classes and also teaching some mums and bubs classes too. In the shop when trying on it didn't seam too different to the original so I went with it. I cannot wear this for over an… Read more

hour without severe back pain and my hubby gets terribly sore shoulders/back too. Bub also didn't like it. I mean, he would fall asleep in it at first but when he would wake up he would be in a panic screaming. I went to a local baby wearing group where they made sure I was wearing it right and one of the mums gave me the original and it's SO much better. I could wear it for 3+ hours and when bub woke up in it he was relaxed and happy to look around.

I definitely would chose the original over the ventus if I were to try again. I've been in contact with customer service and they were lovely but I'm not sure if there will be anything I can do about this purchase.

Amazing carrier – My ERGO was fabulous from 6 months to about 2yrs old for both my kiddies. Great pockets for phone and keys. I bought the Limited Edition Christie Turlington one from Amazon, and an attachable shoulder bag to match. It has held its condition perfectly, I no longer need it but don't want to sell it as it is so nice. Show details

Easy to adjust – Good instructions came with this product and it was easy for dad to own this product and make it his thing! Infant insert was essential to start with and then we were able to easily transport and take with us everywhere. Felt secure and safe with this baby carrier. Good product!

A carrier that really has performance – It was for the second baby, so we had other brands before. The Ergobaby range was around when we had our first, or maybe we didn't see it. Anyway, it was better than our previous carriers. Really confortable and nice on the shoulders. My back didn't feel much tension. But, the best tester is my baby. She loves it. Falls asleep in it everytime.  Show reply

A comfortable, practical and secure baby carrier! – Purchased the ergobaby performance carrier for our second child after trying other brands and styles with bub #1. Such a shame that we didn't try the Ergobaby sooner as it is far superior to the others we had tried. to position front, back or on the hip and suitable for children up to about 20kg. It's come in so handy for travel, and even when we're lugging big suitcases around, you hardly notice you're wearing the ergobaby! I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a comfortable, safe, and versatile baby carrier.

Great mesh design but bub unhappy – I love the ergobaby performance ventus as it's so airy for hot climate. Unfortunately the top of the carrier and between straps where baby's face is so claustrophobic and narrow my 6 month old boy who's actually tall enough to have his head above the carrier cried the moment I put him in. the carrier. Wish ergobaby will make it wider here and option to fold down the edge supporting neck for smaller babies so they are not totally covered. Also front facing outward would be great! I love it but it's the only carrier which made bb cried. So I opted for ergo 360. Great product but really hot for tropics. If only you have mesh material.

Worth the money! – We bought this after a couple of months using a pram and I use it most days. It's great to pop the baby in and walk to the shops for a quick trip or if you're running errands. I sometimes use it if she's grumbly and I have to do housework. You can put the baby in it and do the washing and the washing up with your hands free. If the baby… Read more

doesn't want to go to sleep you can put them in it and walk around and in no time at all they'll be asleep. Honestly, I use it way more than the pram which is heavy and hard to assemble and get in and out of the house and car. We bought this one, especially because it was made with the mesh fabric and it really breathes. Living in Brisbane and it being over 30 most days for half of the year, we needed a carrier that would breathe and not be too hot. Ergobaby carriers put the weight onto your hips rather than drag down your shoulders. If it does feel like your shoulders are being pulled down it usually means the baby is not sitting in it correctly or it's too tight or too loose around the shoulders or hips. Just do some adjusting and it should feel more comfortable. The sunshade is good if it's really sunny or raining and can protect the baby a bit. There's also a pocket you can put keys, cards, phone etc in. So far I've only used it in the front position as my baby is 8 months. I've never tried the hip position or the back position at this stage. I've been meaning to review it for ages because I really love this carrier and would recommend it to any new parent.

Good carrier infant insert is trouble – I read a few reviews and spoke to.some friends and their comments were spot on. The carrier is good, supportive etc but given.how fiddly the infant insert is, probably best for bubs 3/4 months upwards. Also, the clips are pretty stiff and I really struggle with the one across the shoulders, you need elastic arms for sure.

Where is the pouch? – I have used the original for the first few weeks when my son was born., borrowed from a friend. think a pouch would have compromised the main purpose of the carrier (ie being light).

An earlier comment mention a pouch, but this is only for the rain/sun cover, a really tiny one... That's a shame!

Life saver! Must have baby product! – This is truly a life saver! Initially, it was a bit difficult to put it on, but with more practise, it will just be a breeze. Our Bub is 2.5 months old now. We used to spend 1 to 1.5 hours to try to put her to sleep at night until one night, I decided to try the ergobaby performance. Within 20 mins, she fell asleep and what amazing was that when I… Read more ·  1

took her off the carrier, she stayed asleep. So I just simply wrap her and put her into bed. Now we only need 5-10 minutes to carry her before she falls asleep while watching TV or doing our normal bedtime routine as you can get your two hands free. The downside would be that it can get pretty hot in warm days and is a bit tricky and uncomfortable for both you and Bub when you sit down as the waist belt can stuck between Bub's bum and your leg. Bub always starts to move when I sit down. It's no biggie though.

Great for Dad, not Mum's preferred carrier. Good features & comfort (by Dad) – This is our pram - we don't use the wheeled variety! It makes life so much easier - who cares about steps, narrow doorways, getting on buses - with an Ergo, you have free hands all the time. It has been a life saver at 3am, carrying restless kids around the block. We're now up to baby number 2 and carry her in it often; however number 1 still… Read more

wants to ride in it (at 15kg) every now and then - which is not a big problem.

Pros: easy to use;

+ child is nice and close and definitely comfy;

+ very easy to take off (easier than putting on);

+ easy to clean (machine washable);

+ light weight.

Cons:

- hard to adjust the back clip;

- the hood isn't well thought out - it doesn't provide great shade - it basically flops on their heads and isn't wide enough to cover both sides;

- difficult to adjust once child is in;

- front pocket is tiny.

- I haven't used a similar carrier - but the BabyBjorn back support looks better - though this is apparently better for the child.

- although it's easy to wash - it would be great to have pads/sections around the child's head where they tend to chew, spew & other fun things that need to be cleaned.

We use the Ergobaby all the time after nearly 3 years - from newborn to toddler - and it is like new. Very durable.

Despite a few minor issues - I'd highly recommend an Ergo Baby.

Couldn't have survived without it! – I used the Ergobaby Performance from when my LO turned about 4mo. It was so much easier to have my hands free when out and about, and sometimes I used it to wear him around the house too. Was perfect for breastfeeding whilst on the move. Ergo was a blessing, especially as he was a 'runner' and found it difficult to stay close when he started walking. He has always been happy in the Ergo and liked being close to mum or dad. Only stopped using it earlier this year when he was about 18m and I was pregnant with next bub. Looking forward to using it again with the next one. Also now considering the Ergo wrap for baby in the earlier months.

Comfy but tricky to put on – I bought a Ventus to use with a slightly older bub (9 months plus) when my babybjorn started to get uncomfortable, and when I wanted a carrier for a back position so we could do some bushwalking. Baby is certainly comfortable in it, and it's pretty comfortable to wear in the front and back positions, so definitely no complaints there. My main… Read more

issue is that in a front position it's near impossible to put on by myself, as I cannot reach around to do up the back latch (even in its lowest setting), and also in the hip position (which bub loves) it is just horribly uncomfortable with the strap digging sharply into my neck. So all up, I'm happy with the ventus because I'm really only after the back carry position, however if I had bought this for a young bub I would have been disappointed, as the flexibility, for me, is not there.

feels so light in it and our 15kg three year old also enjoys being in it. Will be very useful for family trips/walks. My main word of advice would be to try on all the types of ergobaby carrier with the baby in it because the original and the sport model really didn't fit as well. The performance fit both myself and my husband perfectly well. Light weight, durable, looks good Can take a bit of practice to master the back position safely

carry-ons you need to bring on board. Love that's it's lightweight and thinner than other ergos as I need to travel to countries where the weather are hot and humid.

When my second was born we had a really good use out of it. He will always sleep in it when we are out and about and seems to love being in it.

With 2.5 years gap between the 2 kids, i generally take out a pram and ergo, my big one can sleep inside the pram when she's tired and baby in ergo or if she prefers to walk then I can put the baby in the pram. So it's really working well for us.

My only gripe is about the baby insert, it's a bit fiddly for me to put baby in having to lie baby down so it's not so convenient to do that just anywhere. Also it's too thick for my liking as bub was born in summer so i find that it's too hot. So for newborn to 3-4 months i prefer babybjorn in term of ease. But beyond 4 months ergo is a lot more comfy on my back and I will have no back pain carrying him for hour or two. Other than that ergos rock. And now my sick baby is asleep in it. Lightweight, breathable, comfy than other brands Fiddly baby insert

Fantastic, comfy carrier for heavier tots – I am very happy with my recent purchase of the ergo baby performance carrier for my 1 year old. I held off purchasing one as they are expensive. then went on to the baby bjorn style carriers. These were also great but once bub got closer to the 10kg weight, the carriers were uncomfy on my back. Looking back now I would just get the ergo baby which seems to accommodate for older kids!

The ergo baby is great for heavier kids and my 1 year old loves being carted about in it. If you cart them around for hours unfortunately it does get uncomfy on the back but this is by far the best carrier for heavier kids that I've owned. I was hesitant at first spending $160 on a carrier but don't regret it for a second. I only wish I had of gotten one sooner and tried out the newborn insert! It's not always possible to take the pram and this is a great alternative for those situations like large crowds or even to use around the house when bub won't settle. I use mine to get the housework done when bub protests about not being carried!

If possible I would recommend borrowing one off a friend first to see if your bub (& you) enjoy the carriers! I tried on all the different types at the shop and liked the performance the best!

Would recommend to all the mums out there. comfy, bub loves it, pretty easy to use! Is expensive but worth it if used a lot
