Fisher & Paykel 690L Quad Door RF730Q Series

This is a great product and I would buy again. Despite being Fisher and Paykel and thus thinking it would probably come from Thailand, the carton was clearly labelled ‘made in China’. Despite my initial misgivings, the product is sturdily manufactured. I particularly like the strength of the shelves that slot in the doors and the vege crisper drawers.

I also really love the backlight in the fridge that means we’re never struggling to see wht stuff is at the back of the shel…

Previous reviewers had commented that the water doea not xome out that cold and it’s partially true. BasicLly the water will come out cold but only for a limited quantity and subsequent water coming through the system is only chilled a little.

On advice froma F&P contract mechanic, we (got him to) bypass the internal water filter and i stalled a separate filter outside the home to reduce the risk of leaks in the kitchen - apparently it is often the o ring on the water filter that fails and triggers leaks (this is universal - not make or model specifc)…

2 years in and no worries with our fridge.

The only other thing I would say is the fridge doesn't completely self close, like a single door fridge would. From an engineering perspective this is understandable and forgivable but it does mean you have to train the family to positively shut the fridge and keep one eye on it. I’ve only noted the fridge being left ajar (just) on one occassion…:

I like that I can turn the ice machine off when we go on holidays (one less thing to break/leak).

We have only ever used the bottom two doors as freezers - never used the variable zone in another way. This means we have heaps of freezer space and has alleviated the need fir a seperate cheat deep freezer, which my wofe argues was a waste of space in the house. She’s right of course and this is the excellent compromise!

It is worth noting it is also really easy to clean! Once you know how to take out the crisper drawres… outside is easy clean also, we chose the dark stainless steel exterior which doesnt show finger marks as badly as the light stainless of our previous fridge - And the crisper drawers are well well designed to keep veggies fresh and out of any condensation!

Two last things:

1. we uninstalled one of the main shelves to create more vertixal claerance on the bottom shelf. Only two shelves in the fridge, but the door chelves hold so much its fine. 2. We have a narrow access door into our kitchen so had to remove thee fridge doors to get it in - non-trivial with the water outlet - we got the fridge mechanic in to help with that, and don't regret it. He bypassed the internal water filter while he was there… make sure you check dimensions between fridge and access route!

In summary, the extra space is great. We all drink more water now it’s mostly chilled (we live near Cairns in the tropics so cool water is nice in the heat). I’m a happy man now I can hoard frozen foods (like diary spread on sale, cheap meat, and lots of leftovers). Love using it every day and would buy it again. Well constructed and excellent value for money.
