5 Simon  · Great fridge, easy choice – Great product, works as expected. Quiet and stainless steel is relatively easy to keep clean.
2 Morag  · The fridge freezes food – Started freezing food in the fridge after 4y use. 4 years is not long enough for $1790
4 judithonline34  · Great fridge – I an really happy with this fridge. So far so good and I've had it for a few months now

Like the fridge, but reassembling it after cleaning is IMPOSSIBLE! Looks good, works well, is nice and quiet. BUT, if you take anything out of it and then try to reassemble? A nightmare. Yes, there are videos and instructions. The videos are poor… Read more

quality, too fast and ignore or skip over essential bits. A power failure happened while I was away and the freezer had to be taken apart to clean. I discovered later that F&P ‘do not recommend’ that you do this. What you are supposed to do when you have a freezer part full of tomato gunk that defrosted, ran everywhere inside and then refrozen is ignored. I had to finally get a technician in at considerable expense to do it, after I and others had spent enormous time and effort trying to follow the skimpy instructions. I am now stuck again, dammit, after the veggie containers needed to be thoroughly cleaned. I simply canNOT figure out how to get 2 little plastic clips back and into their places and nothing will work until or unless I do. It’s enough to make me buy a new fridge and no, I won’t be buying F&P again. Pity, I was a long term customer until this fridge. Terrible.

Follow-up  · I remain extremely disappointed (and shocked) at how gobsmackingly complicated it is to reassemble things with this fridge after quite ordinary events. IT should NOT take literally hours to reassemble the vegetable bins, because of the baffling design of the shelf! One should NOT have to eventually get a technician out at great expense to… Read more

This would have to be the worst fridge I have ever bought over the past 40 years – I bought this fridge in 2021 and now it is out of warranty. This will be my first negative review of anything but this fridge is terrible and I think people should know. The front of the fridge needs to be cleaned every day without doubt. And now even though it is cleaned every day it has weird marks on it that wont move. After 2 years of having… Read more

problems with the water purifier and after having bought several replacements at approx 100d a piece- all of them failed and that is when the technician came and finally replaced it for free.( apparently a fault from their end- not that they told me beforehand) And when I asked the tech guy about so many flies getting into my fridge even when we are not at home he thought that was ridiculous. I have an open style home but I've never had this problem in 30 years. I think the seals are dodgy. The temp switch inside the fridge is so dodgy its hard to know what to set it to, and it is in such a bad position that it often gets knocked and so we end up with frozen food all the time. The fridge doors are an absolute nightmare. I am constantly having to get out of bed because somebody has accidentally left the damn doors open. You basically have to push them with some force to close them or the alarm will sound. The icemaker is so slow we have needed to buy ice making containers because we are constantly running out. I guess overall I would say this fridge is the worst. Actually in the first year some huge part in the back of the fridge was replaced as well but luckily it was under warranty.

Don’t be fooled by looks – It’s a great looking fridge with great storage and space. We installed it in Dec 2021 and now it looks awful. It scratches and dings very easily. The surface is soft so you’re can’t wear rings and can’t stay in a thorough way. The dings were made by a soft plastic duster. I contacted F&P and they eventually got back to me stating there is nothing they can do. We were warned by winnings about this fridge but we loved the look of it. Show details

Ongoing Issues with Water & Ice dispenser. Really bad customer service!! – I brought this fridge in July from Harvey Norman for $1899. The water and ice dispenser worked for about a month. Over the next month and a half they both gradually lost water pressure, taking several minutes to fill a glass of water, and making tiny ice cubes. I contacted customer service a number of times via email without response. Finally I… Read more

had enough and decided to call, wait on hold just to organise a service. Sent out a service technician, who told me the filter was faulty and that the issue was now fixed.

Less than 2 weeks after the service, again the fridges ice and water dispensers began loosing water pressure. I again sent a number of emails, one with a letter asking for a response within 10 business days, as advised by consumer affairs, again no response to my email or letter as is required under consumer law. Despite fisher & paykel failing to respond to my emails on a number of occasions, with simply no response they failed to explain why this has happened and keeps happening.

I again had to ring the service line, wait on hold and explain everything to another operator. 35 minutes on the phone yesterday for fisher & paykel to tell me that they wont offer me a replacement, or refund for the fridge, the only option they would offer me was to again have it serviced. Apparently the fridge filter wont work because there are large amounts of calcium in my area (First time I have herd this, the fisher & paykel service technician said nothing about calcium, he said the filter was faulty & this was never mentioned in previous phone calls.) When I explained that on the property there are 2 houses and the house in the front has the same fridge, but the single door, brought within weeks of each other, and she hasn't experience a problem, they just ignored what I was saying, and said I need a special filter and another service is all they would offer. Without any other options I tried to organise a service which was booked in for Friday.

The next day I received a text saying my part was delayed and they would call me when it was in and then organise a service. I called fisher & paykel again, 40 minutes, to resolve absolutely nothing. Ive been again told to just wait for the service and if this doesn't work then they will discuss other options.

I have contacted them 10 times in the last 2 months, had a brand new fridge already serviced once, and had a working water dispenser and ice maker for a total of maybe 1 month and 2 weeks in the 4 months since purchasing the Fisher & Paykel fridge. The first time I contacted fisher & paykel after the fridge was serviced was on the 4th of November, its the 27th of November today and I have no confirmed date for the new service tech, no issues resolved and am expected to just continue with a $1899 fridge that doesn't do what it was purchased to do and no guarantee that this service will fix it the issue.

Terrible customer service!!

Just an update 16/01/2020 After Harvey Norman replaced the fridge, with no help from fisher and paykel, the problem with the water dispenser was back within 2 weeks. After two failed attempts for a service tech to come out to fix, first time didn’t ring my doorbell or come into my driveway, just called my phone once when it was in another room, the second attempt he didn’t even bother to show up. After waiting 5 hours for a fisher and paykel service tech I then had to wait on hold for over an hour and half to find out the service tech didn’t actually have the part that was meant to have be ordered in, according to fisher and paykel by early December. I was promised a call back today at 10.30- 11am. No one called back. Calling Them at 3pm to be advised there is a 2 hour wait to even speak to customer service. (And trying to organise the service online Doesnt work and advises me my 10km from the cbd address is not In a serviceable area. Finally tried speaking to some one though chat, who finally organised a store credit. This is 4 months of multiple emails, formal letters as advised by consumer affairs, and numerous phone calls that are all roughly 45-1.5 hours long, Fisher and Paykel never got back to me. It was frustrating and upsetting that the company who are ment to provide warranty service so such little regard for their customers.

I ADVISE ANYONE WHO VALUES GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICES TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM FISHER & PAYKEL.

I would like to say Harvey Norman however have been really good, the call back with answers and solutions, listened to the issues and didn’t make me go over the problem everytime I spoke with them, unlike Fisher & Paykel. Just look at this review for example, no one has bothers to contact me to offer support from fisher & paykel. Compar d to companies like Samsung or Electrolux who try and help resolve the negative fridge reviews on this site.

Design and quality let it down – On the surface the fridge looks great and simple to use. BUT it’s in the detail that lets it down. 1. 3 months old in and we had a massive leak which was due to the condenser not being able to self defrost. It is a known fault due the hole in the drip tray not being large enough to let the water ‘mist’ away. Called the service team got it… Read more

fixed. It’s now 9 and fingers crossed still OK

2. The freezer drawer. It has never been smooth and sounds like a train when it’s being opened. The ones in the shop seemed better, but having gone to another few retailers and they all sound like mine. But less obvious in their larger spaces.

3. The leaking water filter housing. 9 months old and its started to leak. So got new filters and still no joy. Reading many online posts this seems to be a common issue regardless of which filter you use. I have booked a service call so let’s see what happens. I will update this post after they have been. Bumpy start with defective fridge – Bumpy start and worth noting that the first fridge was delivered in May in Brisbane – not exactly hot weather. First fridge could not get down to the F&P recommended 4°C. On the factory default setting of 6 lights (midpoint) it got to 6.1°C at the coldest. Changing the setting to the coldest setting of 1 light dropped it to 4.5°C. The freezer… Read more

could get to only -17°C at the factory setting and -19°C on the coldest setting. This would NOT handle a Brisbane summer.

Reported to The Good Guys who logged a complaint with F&P. It took 4 days for them to make contact to arrange for a technician to visit another 8 days later – just as well the fridge was “sort of” working.

Technician couldn’t find a fault and after a few calls they agreed to replace the fridge. Except that they didn’t have stock. It took another 31 days for them to get stock (again just as well it was sort of working), and they delivered the new fridge the next day.

The second fridge is MUCH better and gets to the recommended 3°C on 5 lights (1 colder than the factory setting) and the freezer is fine at 19°C at the factory setting of 6 lights.

The only temperature “issue” I have still is the water dispenser. For those who think that it will dispense cold fridge water, prepare to be disappointed. The coldest I have seen is 11° and generally around 13°C (not exactly fridge-water temperatures), and that is only for the first 600ml, then it slowly goes up to room temperature by 1.4 litres.

Overall the fridge is good. Nicely made and finished, good shelf adjustment, pretty quiet, the handles, shelves, door shelves etc seem to be quite solid and good quality compared to several others we looked at. No problems with dents on the doors (unlike some other reviews), but I haven’t tried bashing them either. The ice maker works OK, but it is a bit slow.

The negatives (apart from the first fridge just not cooling properly) would include the “warm” water from the dispenser, the lack of a $1 egg tray (I kept and modified the old fridge’s tray to fit) and the drawer runners (both fridge & particularly freezer) can be quite rough and noisy. The first fridge seemed to be worse for this than the second one. The freezer main drawer is a bit deep, so it can be like a mini chest freezer digging for things. The other thing to get used to is that the fridge doors don't self-close, even with the fridge tilted back as recommended by F&P - probably too small and too light ?

It looks great & is so quiet! – This fridge purchase was replacing my previous 519L Fisher & Paykel that lasted well over 10 years so I was specifically looking at Fisher & Paykel models. I had planned to buy a different Fisher & Paykel (following the recent CHOICE fridge review list) and a silver or white colour but there was none in stock. This model was in stock and was also… Read more

on the Choice list. I had no plans to have a water/ice dispenser - it needs a water source and connected by a plumber but you don't have to use the water dispenser or ice dispenser, so no rush to have it connected.

It is a very attractive fridge and it is whisper quiet. Inside lights are well placed. Finger marks are more obvious on the black stainless steel than it is on silver finished stainless steel - salesman recommended using a screen cleaner (winner tip!). It does look lovely.

I do like the layout - it feels wider and more shallow than my previous 519L F&P fridge - a good thing (less items are lost!). The freezer space is good but be aware if you use the ice dispenser, it will take up 1/2 of one of the two compartments in the top drawer.

I love how the temperature controls are accessible on the inside/near the front. It has worked perfectly in terms of consistent cooling.

Great fridge with excellent customer service – I've been using this fridge for the past four years and overall I'm quite happy with it. It's spacious, keeps my food fresh, and has a sleek design that fits well with my kitchen decor. However, there are a couple of minor issues that I've noticed. Firstly, there is no egg tray included, which can be a bit inconvenient for storing eggs. Secondly,… Read more

the freezer drawer can be loud when pulling it out, which can be a bit annoying. Despite these issues, I'm still happy with the fridge and would recommend it to others.

One thing that stands out to me about this fridge is Fisher Paykel's customer service. I had an issue with the fridge a while back and they were very helpful in resolving it quickly and efficiently. Fisher Paykel also sent out a local technician to fix the problem on time. Their staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I'm very happy with the fridge and their customer supports.

Another F&P for us – After 45 years of marriage we are only onto about our third F&P fridge. The dimensions are perfect as it needed to fit into an existing cavity. VERY BEAUTIFUL FRIDGE – This fridge replaced our previous Fischer & Paykel fridge, which lasted 20 years. Now this is an unbelievable lifespan for a fridge, so I had to stick with the brand, and buy another Fischer & Paykel fridge. This new fridge is of very high quality, and one of the most beautiful fridges on the market. It’s also super quiet. A very big thank you to the manufacturer for producing such an excellent product. Show details ·  1

The fridge works ok, freezer is terrible – The Fridge runs pretty much as it should, although some items freeze if at the back of the fridge such as yoghurt etc. The trouble all starts with the freezer as others have described. The runners constantly freeze up causing the freezer draw to get stuck. Also, the ice dispenser clearly drips water onto the side of the ice bucket (probably what's… Read more

causing the runners to freeze). Also, the ice tends to all freeze together after a short period of time, which also I'm sure caused by dripping water.

I called F&P and they had a local company come and look, they completely replaced the ice making unit/dispenser but still have the same problem. Contacted F&P again but never heard back

Maybe this review might get me somewhere with customer service – After waiting months for our fridge, it finally arrived with a dent/scratch on the side, which the delivery guys pointed out. One week later, the edging of the right door (where the side and the bottom edge meet) broke off.… Read more

Again, I emailed the store. I don't expect a new fridge (although, I'm wondering what might happen with this fridge as it doesn't seem as well made as the one we purchased in 2007) but I've received an email today from some generic email address asking me to basically "raise a claim" (I thought I'd already done that a number of times to the same email address given to me today) and also send the fridge back because "triage only assess fridges when back in the workshop". No advice as to how to get the fridge back or if I'll be getting a fridge to replace (likely not). So, I've got to go without a fridge while they assess? This seems crazy! Hopefully someone from customer service in F&P reads these (likely not) so something appropriate might happen (likely not).

Terrible stainless steel finish – We bought this fridge around a year ago and while the fridge itself works fine the finish is horrendous. No Egg Tray!!! – Having been a Fisher & Paykel customer for all my adult life, I once again turned to them when I recently needed to replace our old Fisher & Paykel refrigerator. We took delivery of our new fridge just two days ago. The first thing that struck me is the overall decline in the quality of Fisher & Paykel products. From their former reputation as… Read more

"high quality" the new fridge carries some of the characteristics and feel of "cheapness". One example was the "missing" egg trays. The manual for the fridge talks about the need to keep eggs in the fridge, so I thought it quite strange that the egg trays were missing.

I called the "Customer Service" line (which in itself is a painful experience) and after several transfers of my call between India and Australia was eventually told that the fridge does not come with egg trays. Thinking that it was very strange that a new fridge would not come with egg trays, I then asked "why"? The response (again after being put on hold for a further 15 minutes), was, and I quote "a marketing decision" and that "there was no real reason". I was told that I could purchase them from "spare parts". So I asked if egg trays were available for this model and was told yes - they are available for purchase.

So for the sake of what would be a $0.90 moulded plastic egg tray, they have taken the marketing decision to not include egg trays with a new refrigerator, and disenfranchised a lifelong Fisher & Paykel customer and advocate. Even if some customers have provided feedback that they did not require egg trays, why would Fisher & Paykel not include them since they are simply placed into the existing shelving?

The decline of a quality brand can take many years, but once the brand reputation is damaged, its stays damaged. I won't be recommending Fisher & Paykel to family or friends any longer.

Good Looking Fridge, But Noise / Compressor Issues – Had at home in the box from Mar '19 for 3 months due to reno in progress. When finally installed 3 months later were impressed with the stainless steel look, ease of use and practicality of the and French doors, and how well it fit in to our new kitchen design. Sadly this wore off after about 2-3 weeks when the constant noise got to me (I… Read more

suspected compressor running 24/7 - and our reno involved opening up to open plan kitchen/dining/living) and I called F&P support. They sent out a technician who confirmed there was an issue, and it would have to be taken away for repair. It was collected about a week later and a replacement was given to us on loan. It came back repaired around 3 weeks later.

All good until June '20 when the noise returned intermittently, to the point now (July '20) where the compressor appears to be running 24/7 again, and a technician is coming out next week. Lucky there is a 2-year warranty. However if it's taken away for repair again it will definitely be last chance - any further issues I will be chasing a refund or complete replacement with a working unit. It would appear I am not the only one to experience this issue. Very disappointing.

**Update March '21** This sorry saga continues. Feb '21 constant buzz returned - 3rd time now. A buzz when you go to bed and still going when you wake up in the morning is totally unacceptable. (There is a difference between the low hum of normal "active smart" operation and the buzz a unit makes when it's first switched on from warm and needs to work hard to come down to operating temperature. Anyone experiencing this latter sound going constantly should realise it is not normal.)

I reported this latest issue on 24 Feb '21 and requested a replacement fridge based on it being repaired twice before and now the same issue again. I was told this couldn't be done until a technician had checked it first. He would be around on 19 Mar. Seriously? Extremely bad backlog there. Lucky I keep an old spare fridge in the garage. To be fair to the technician who came around he was polite and efficient, as they usually are, as are the support staff on the phone. But a major issue is the technician had no idea of the history of repair, nor his supervisor. It was only when I explained the history that it was agreed the fridge should be replaced.

I appreciate that people are more likely to get on a review site when they have a problem, and this can give the impression of a product having a higher fault rate than it actually has. But, given what I've experienced, a definite area for improvement I can see is for technicians to know the history of the unit they are looking at. Had this been in place they could have recommended replacing the unit after the second fault - which it turns out was caused by a very small leak that caused the gas to escape over several months. The leak is probably too small to locate, so without the technician knowing it had happened before they would have continued a cycle of break and repair until I pointed it out. It's also odd that the support person arranged the technician to check before replacing, yet it seems he was under the impression it was another standard callout.

Anyway, a replacement fridge was delivered 5 days after the technician's visit, so not so bad in that regard. It's going ok so far, so fingers crossed.

Bottom line: Would I consider buying a F&P product again? Unlikely, though they do appear to make a decent effort with communication and customer service (apart from the excessive time to wait for a technician).

** Update March '22 ** One year later and the new fridge has performed without issue. If only they'd replaced it with a new unit at the beginning.

Jury is out – Fridge keeps food cold and frozen OK. Feature wise nothing to complain about. No breakdowns so far. It is compact for a French door, for me that was a plus. prove me wrong in time, and is possibly better than average therefore won't mark it down on this account. What I really didn't like was the weakness of the frame which again could be a symptom of the times. The manual even recommends adjusting the feet to square up the doors which is only possible due to frame weakness. In addition, it is quite noisy for a new fridge which is amplified by small vibrations which is at times enough to 'clink' bottles inside. Mine sits on a very square flat solid timber floor and sounded like a 'chaff cutter' before adjusting the feet. Just tolerable now but in time could become an issue.

Keeps food fresh – We’ve had this for 8 months, and are still impressed with how long it keeps produce fresh, both in the crisper drawers and just in the fridge if we run out of space. fairly easy to organise, but maybe not perfect if you freeze lots of food and can’t keep track of it (the bottom level is a bit deep, so things can get buried under other things). water starts to run really slowly, and when we change the filter this seems to resolve. Good fridge and well made – Fridge replaced an old conventional F&P. Whilst being the same size it does lose space because of the french doors- and those french doors never close by themselves. Apart from that we've had it a year now with zero issues. The fast freeze and bottle chill features get used all the time. Quality is good and nothing has broken - unlike a kelvinator beer fridge bought more recently Show details

Overall good quality 5.5 years old still going – Love the design, look and features of this fridge. The compartments and storage is generous. Have had this since April 2014 and it has not failed once. The only issue is the left door flange does now close properly but it can be easily resolved by manually push it as you close the door. I see this is a common issue. Otherwise, highly recommend this fridge. Show details

It is a very quiet & and an efficient fridge / freezer – I have wanted a French door fridge since they first came out .... but if I am honest they are not as useful as the two door upright fridges ,its something that I didnt think of till I had one .The freezer is the same as a box fridge ,so you dont know whats in the bottom till you have to dig for it, the old fridge you could see everything in it… Read more

from the side & it was at eye level.also the doors are not wide so you cant put a lot of big bottles in them.you get 4 lie down bottle holders with the fridge ,but that means you take up a full shelf with bottles ...but I still love it

So far so good. Very quiet fridge – Have had the Fisher Paykel 519L active smart french door fridge for nearly 2 years now after a major reno. Chosen this refrigerator for it's good looks & excellent size. So far so good. Very quiet. The ability to see all things inside of fridge at a quick glance. The side storage is great for quick access to milk and butter, jams & sauces. Excellent refrigerator. Highly recommended. Show details

WARNING - Think before you buy – If you are coming from a traditional 2 door fridge to one of these French Door fridge/freezers Really consider the layout, in my opinion, its a step backwards for the sake of a cool "looking" fridge.... The pull out freezer is so painful to use Its also smaller than most tradition fridges freezers It means you pull the draw into you shins, then… Read more

have to bend down to find things in basically one big bucket.... ewwwwwww

The fridge, Hmmmm 2 doors, so way less door shelf space You are constantly having to open 2 doors, when you managed with 1 door for decades Room for Milk and Bottles is very minimal, and they give you these cheap plastic moulds to lay bottles down... Too many glass shelves... Yes you can take one out, but you will find it hard to stand up taller items....

All the above is just design and form factor you need to consider Not really a fault.... Just a painful step backwards!

The fridge itself is noisier than the 20 year old one its just replaced :( Very sad about that

The doors mark so easy, i'm almost wondering did they go out of their way to find a coating that marks so well.

What is good.... The LED lighting is good It keeps things cold The soft close doors are nice

Not sure i'll have this long, it is simply too loud to be able to sit down and watch TV at night It's annoying to no end.

Very nice fridge – I don't know what other reviewers are experiencing, but this is the quietest fridge I've ever owned, including the previous Fisher & Paykel unit. Love the french doors allowing access for the largest platters and the huge roll out freezer at the bottom. Glass shelves have lots of adjustment options, the light is so good, no dark spots anywhere in… Read more

the fridge. Gets cold very quickly and keeps pretty accurate temperatures. I bought a wireless fridge/freezer digital thermometer and it is within 1-2 degrees of ideal temperature for both the fridge and freezer.

Love the stainless steel finish, matches all our other kitchen appliances.

If I could find one criticism, it would be the auto close. Even after jacking up the front of the fridge, it will not auto close, you still have to give it that final push to close the door. You also have to open both doors to slide out the vegetable crisper drawer, but this is a minor inconvenience.

Very happy with this fridge and would thoroughly recommend it.

Just purchased – Updating review..Stainless steel smudges very easy. Managed to have one of the letters on the front of the fridge fall off after a light wipe down, so now I have a Fisher & Pay el, good look... No egg holder or an accessory to even buy to get one!? Massive over sight by F&P. Quite loud compared to my older (and cheaper) fridge. Double vege/fruit bins are good. Early days but regretting my purchase. Show details

Love it – Absolutely love the automatic ice maker, means never being without ice again. When you take some ice it refills the container. Also having free flowing chilled water from the slim line dispenser is very convenient and doesn’t take up any internal room. Overall nice size fridge for the 3 of us.
