I am absolutely HORRIFIED by the quality of this "washing machine". I bought this with the sole intent of washing my clothes. Just imagine my absolute SHOCK when I opened the washing machine door to find out my clothes were torn to SHREDS. I will NEVER buy from this washing machine brand EVER. AGAIN. Show details

Reliable washing machine – I bought this machine specifically for its quick wash function which is only 30 minutes. Its a great time saver and washes well. Easy to use dial for selecting the program want. I especially like the drum clean function which washes the machine through as super hot cycle. Great value for money and simple to operate. Would definitely buy and fisher and paykel washing machine in the future, this one hasn't let me down yet. Show details

Not so quick nor smart – Got mine 4 years ago and wouldn’t recommend washing towels or bedsheets unsupervised. It will try to balance the weight by slowly spinning. Instead of stopping and provide an error code after a few tries like my previous F&P top loader does, it just rebalances until you manually stop it! Few times when I set the timer , it was still revaluing… Read more

after a couple of hours! The section for softener fills up with water or sometimes still left with 1/2 the softener after the wash. Would change back to top loader once this one dies.

Rusted out after two years – Extremely disappointed with this machine. It's only three years old and has serious rust and metal peeling issues on one side. Sitting beside a wall, we didn't notice until we were moving house and now we've been told it's outside the two year warranty. I would expect a washing machine to last more than two or three years. Feel like they should last ten! Especially at this price point. Very poor build quality. Show details

Good washer, wish I'd bought a bigger one though – I have had good luck with Fisher Paykel appliances and this continues that good trend. It works fine for washing clothes 2-3 times a week. Amazingly quiet, I have it on some thick foam washing machine feet and I don't even hear it when I'm just one wall away. It's also very stable, you can leave things on top of the washing machine and they don't… Read more

fall off during the cycle. Cleaning it is very easy, it's got a drum clean cycle which takes just under 1 hour, and the pump filter is easy to access at the lower right behind a panel.

This "J" model has a single inlet hose for cold water and an internal water heater, so it can do hot cycles up to 90 degrees. No need for hot water supply.

One complaint: When washing towels and other large heavy items, it's easy for the drum to become unbalanced on the spin cycle. This results in the spin taking an extremely long time (hours) to complete, as the clothes eventually dry and become light enough to spin. I solve this by only washing 2 towels at a time, using the Quick 30 minute program. If you wash 4 big towels at once then you'll be pulling out two wet towels so the other two can spin. This overall problem of unbalanced spin is what leads to the inaccurate 8-12 minute timer that other reviews complain about. So I wish I had bought the heavier 8.5kg washer, I assume that would spin heavier loads easier.

Poor post-purchase support – I've had a Fisher & Paykel for 3 years and was working well up till now. The power board is broken. It costs $400 to purchase that part which is half the cost of it's original purchase. I gave F&P a call, with a wait time of 45 mins so I chose the call back option. They call me and then advise I need to go through to the care centre as they only… Read more

have a phone number for the technician booking centre. That's another 10-15 minute wait on hold. The customer care agent took some details, put me on hold without telling me and then surprise surprise, I got disconnected. That's ok right, because I've given them all my details and they'll call me back. No chance. I call back and the wait time is now an hour. Just so they can call me back and put me through the care centre which is more waiting time. It's all good reviewing a product when you first purchase it, and the machine runs smoothly (of course, because it's new). But when something goes wrong, you want to ensure that they have strong customer service. An epic fail from F&P. Bing Lee are trying to assist because I'm out of options and done with calling and waiting for an hour each time.

Since this post, I have been able to get a hold of a Fisher and Paykel account manager who apologised for their bad service. They have since fixed my machine (it took 3 weeks) at no cost as a gesture. They replaced the power board and the machine has been working beautifully. However, I went through allot of trouble and wasted time for this outcome.

Washer that does it's job! – We have used a few brands of washing machine in the past, this is our 2nd front loader, the first front loader was a LG, that is terribly made and designed, it vibrates so hard that the whole machines moves by itself, and the rubber seal gets moldy within a year, we have to get rid of the LG before it's life span, and we almost lost faith on front… Read more

loaders.

We had good experience with F&P top loader in the past, so we replace the LG with F&P quicksmart. Nearly a year now, and it still runs like new, it does not move by itself, the noise level is acceptable. The rubber seal is still clean, we use quick 30 mode almost exclusively, cold water & fastest spin setting, yet to have clothes wear-out problem.

Machine is also easy to clean, we have used self clean feature once, with a recipe found online(baking soda + vinegar), surprised it actually get rid of the build up of dirty clothes smell.

We are happy with this washer, the build quality and design is great, and it does our simple washing task without any issues!

Glad my boat doesn't leak like this machine – Over all we think that its a great machine that washes very well except that it started leaking 3 years after we bought it. Had Fisher and Paykel out twice to fix it at our expense, and was told they can't fix it. Was told that its a design fault and not a broken part. I would never purchase this brand again. Sadly we feel we have no choice but to buy another machine as the leaks are getting much worse. Show details

Wish I hadn’t bought – Ok for normal clothes washing, but the spin cycle for washing bed linens or sometimes delicates is terrible, will spin for ever, have to take out items and spin them a few at a time to dry. Wish I had read the reviews before purchase, this is the worst washing machine I have ever owned. I will be glad once it breaks down so I have a good excuse to buy another brand. Show details

2 year 2 weeks and needs help – Love my machine and worked well until warranty finished. Now awaiting service. Let say after 80mins holding for a service call and still no answer I clicked the call back option and still haven’t had a call back! Disappointed with Fisher & Paykel customer centre - beyond a joke. How can a company run this way? Will update review once we have a response but I would stay away from all F&P items due to their customer service call centre!!!! Show details

Need clothes washed, it works well – The machines on the market all seem to have features aimed at families with loads of washing. Pros: Clean results, fast, reliable, easy-to-use, and very low noise! Compared to my previous washing machines, it is simply the quietest and produces less vibration, so it's really good!

Cons: Not easy to clean, quite expensive compared to its rivals

But overall, it's a pretty reliable and good washing machine.

Inaccurate timer – The machine overall is fine but I feel it lacks less user control than my old top loader, which I only sold due to laundry reconfiguration. The timer is always incorrect. Eg. it showed 11 minutes remaining on spin cycle with no countdown for 8 minutes (I stood and timed it) so there is no way of seeing how long you have to wait for the washing to… Read more

finish...if you need to leave the house for example. If the cycle is interrupted to go straight to spin it increases the amount of time left from whatever was showing on the time remaining gauge. There is no option between a wash of @ 30 minutes to 1 hour and 10 minutes. If you stop it manually from the longer time to the shorter time it sometimes just stays on the longer time anyway....unless you turn the whole machine off and reprogram it.

I can't fault it – With my 33 year old top load Simpson (purchased 15-8-1986) leaking water I scoured the Internet and found complaints about late model top load machines and the advantages of a front loader so I decided it was time for change – and what a change it was! clothes the Quick wash at 30 minutes is quick, efficient and I cant believe how clean the clothes become with a minimum amount of water used compared to my old machine. This model heats the water if a hot wash is required but a cold wash suits me as does the variable spin speeds. For an aged person it is very easy to program, displays the time to completion and sitting on a timber stand is easy to load/unload

Now if it will only last half as long as my former machine I will be more than happy

wash does a good job for day to day washing.

Cons

Doesn't remember favourite/most used settings. Defaults to 2.5hr wash.

Can't tip washing from basket into the machine like top loader

Door is in the way being in a corner it opens the wrong side in my laundry

Clothes not spun as dry as my top loader.

If you are used to top loaders they are very regimented in cycles. Trying to make sense of what this machine is doing will drive you mad. Stops and starts a lot.
