Cleaning challenge for Chatsworth looped carpet – We bought Chatsworth loop pile wooldn carpet last year. It looks beautiful, stylish and feels great, but one big challenge that we have not figured yet. It is very different, more so impossible to clean. My kids had a coke and orange juice spill and no matter how much I clean it’s not coming out while stain spread and visible. I got électrodry to… Read more
clean twice without much success. Does it need to be sealed before use ? What’s the advice on cleaning (my colour is cavendish, pretty light)? Tried to get retailer to help but the advice they gave didn’t work either…. The more I clean (with all available materials and pro one from electrodry) the more visible it is. I feel like ripping off the part of it and replacing because stains are driving me crazy.
Great looking carpet – We just love the look and feel of our new wool carpet. Well done HN and Hycraft. Show details
Terrible – We purchased Tatami Twist through our NZ stockist thinking we were buying a durable, eco friendly product that had great non flattening properties and easy stain removal. It looked nice fir a week. Just over a year later with the best possible care (we don't even wear shoes on it) in the world along with a professional clean it's terrible. It… Read more
flattens. Marks are nigh impossible to remove - you think they've gone and they reappear - even when they haven't had time to soak in. So disappointed. This was bought with money given by my dad before he passed. Huge regret to be stuck with it now for years. Not recommended.
Over-promised, under-delivered – We had Godfrey Hirst Tatami Twist carpet installed in the bedrooms and media room of a home we purchased a year ago, replacing carpet that was less than 3 years old because it showed foot prints and vacuum tracking. We selected Tatami Twist - a twist pile wool/bamboo blend - because the manufacturers website states that these carpets are… Read more
"hardwearing and maintain their finish, so ideal for high foot trafficked areas" and "textured finish is less likely to show shadow or tracking"; this carpet was recommended by the retailer. The carpet we purchased is rated 6 stars / extra-heavy duty, supposedly suitable for stairs, and is installed on a premium underlay. With this rating it is supposed to be suitable for up to 5500 foot traffickings per week, ours would be hard pressed to have 10% of that traffic (no children or dogs).
Within the first few months the carpet was showing distinct wear marks and tracking, it looked decidedly shabby, its appearance being significantly worse than that of the carpet in our prior house after 6 years; I raised my concerns with the retailer who referred on to Godfrey Hirst. The Godfrey Hirst rap called in around the 6-month mark, they subsequently issued a report stating that "the carpet is currently performing in a manner consistent with its early age", also stating that cut pile carpet is MORE susceptible to tracking and flattening, directly contradicting claims made in the product spec and on their website. There's been no further follow up by the manufacturer or retailer, all in all a very disappointing experience
Bad chemical smell from the backing – I bought this 100% wool carpet as it is one of the most expensive one in the market, and though this is top brand. We have young kids and want the carpet as natural as possible. Really regret when it's been installed. On the day of installation I have noticed bad chemical smell from it, and installer told me that's NEW CARPET SMELL and would… Read more
disappear after a few days.
however, it's been 3 years, and the smell is still as strong as day one. Luckily, I just changed it on our stairs rather than the whole house. Then I have to install an exhaust fan on top of the stair area to ventilate the bad smell. It' running 24/7, otherwise the disgusting smell will be all over this area.
I found the smell is from the white rubber/latex backing where the piles are stick to. I have a few cut-offs in my garage wishing the smell will dissipate. But no, smell won't go away even in a well ventilated area, like garage.
So never ever waste your money on this. I will install solid wood flooring next time...

Lines in Hycraft Valley Gorge Crevice carpet – Beware of fine print and manufacturing tolerances. 3 adjacent and noticeable lines through whole carpet length was treated as a normal manufacture possibility and manufacturer would not entertain they were a defect. You might be unfavourably surprised at what is seen as unavoidable manufacturing tolerances. Once laid it is too late.

Quality we can feel, practical pattern in pale carpet – We recently laid 3 rooms with GH Hycraft pure wool carpet, replacing a pure wool carpet that had served 35 years and 2 families of boys. The new carpet is a pleasure under bare feet. For a pale carpet it a very practical patterning which hides a multitude of sins. Comfort underfoot, light in the room, AND not vacuuming too often. Delighted. Show reply
Stunning wool carpet – We're renovating our 1940s Californian Bungalow and recently laid Godfrey Hirst Hycraft carpet in our formal lounge, dining, three bedrooms and stairs. It's by far my favourite part of the renno! We went with a grey wool plush pile called 'Pegasus' on 'Ultimate' foam underlay and the comfort factor is off the charts. Your toes sink in like it's… Read more · 1
made of marshmallow. I always knew I wanted the matte/natural finish of wool, but was tossing up between the plush and the chunky loop as I was a bit worried about the foot marks you get with the plush. In the end I'm so glad I went with the plush - the subtle dark and light contrasts across the floor have really grown on me. It pretty much feels like we've turned our house into a luxury hotel. Highly recommended!
