Google Nest Wifi

In my network, devices like Fire TV and Sonos would connect to Google Nest WiFi but consistently report “connected, no internet” when Nest was acting as the router. The same devices worked instantly on a basic ISP router, so this isn’t a device issue. Bridge mode is often suggested as a workaround, but Nest mesh does not support… Read more
bridge/access-point mode with multiple nodes — so you either accept broken devices or lose mesh entirely. This isn’t just a configuration quirk; it’s a design limitation. If you have mixed smart devices or expect the router to be tolerant and transparent, this product may not be suitable. I wouldn't trust future models either based on the performance of this one.
Not practical...it drops dead if your internet is gone, you cannot hook it to other nw without brining it down, it happened to me in middle of night, I wanted to connect to phone hot spot but could do it....other issue is battery life is… Read more
unpredictable, I went to holidays with start of 7 days life but then the life dropped to 2 days in just 24 hrs, reason? Too many cars moving around, it is not weather proof and very fragile if drops then it's gone
Follow-up · I use the camera in front and back yard and after 6 months of use it still identifies me as an unfamiliar face.you CANNOT connect it to alternate internet without bringing it down .... imagine doing it in the middle of night when u need it the most. Another drawback is u cannot remotely move it as it is wall mounted, the average charge period per… Read more
Near impossible to set up – Learning to fly a helicopter would be easier than setting this thing up . Follow the prompts on Google home and then nothing will happen except a row of lights . An ipad cannot find it on either blue tooth or wifi . Once working ( I have seen one that works ) its good fun but allow yourself a long weekend to try hacking into the thing before… Read more

Wi-fi points always going off-line – 2 nest devices continually go offline. Unplug power and re-plug and we good for another week. Utterly pathetic system and a waste of money. No manual - nor even a downloadable one. Just pages and pages of web fox-holes that get you nowhere. Totally off Google products Show details
Finally! Excellent Wifi throughout my house – We maybe have more wifi devices than the average home, with around 50+ devices. Includes 2 Google nest displays, 5 Google home speakers, 15 + smart plugs and lamps, a few TV's, computers, tablets, phones, and security cameras. It's a large double story house (with concrete floors), and we have been struggling for years to get good wifi coverage… Read more
throughout. Most frustrating of all, was the need to reboot my router every couple of days, to keep resurrecting the wifi and Internet signal. Wasting time troubleshooting intermittent Internet speed and wifi connections. 2 weeks ago, I purchased a Google nest WiFi 3 pack from JBHIFI... Within an hour or two, I had it up and running. There is now superfast wifi in all corners of my house. I have a fixed wireless internet connection with Pentanet, Perth (60 MBPS download and 10MBPS Upload). Each and every time I run a speed test, I am now getting almost maximum speeds. This is the first time I have had such a reliable connection, without wasting so much time setting it up and managing it... It is real easy. No more drop outs!!!! I cannot recommend the Google Nest Internet hub and access points enough.

The Best electronic item I bought – Everyone will have different thoughts on this product. I will give my genuine openion on this product. I bought this 3 years ago after i fed up with many mesh products and also wifi extenders (Some are very expensive like netgear night hawk). This is my best buy so farin electronics. not even a single issue since I bought this. I also recommoded… Read more
this to 3 of my frieds and they are also very happy with the product.
Very recently i moved home for some personal reason. During my shifting, Accidentally the main router dropped from above my wardrobe at least 6 feet high. not even a single scratch or any glitch in range or signal. working like charm even after it bounced... i know it sounds crazy but accidents happen.. I thought that will break as it fallen on a hard surface and bounced like a ball hahaha ... lucky me.. anyways.. what I was trying to say is... I was amazed with the quality of this product.
you buy it or not all depends on your personal preference.. but if you are considering mesh.. then i recommond going with this one.
Good luck and have a great day.
Pretty poor for a google product – I purchased this because google products are almost idiot proof to set up And when it comes to modems and wifi technology my scope of skill is pretty minimal So I needed a easy device to set up I have a family of 6 and I'm in a small 4 bedroom single story house Positives Set up was easy as, A small child could set it up It can handle more… Read more
devices connected I do like being able to pause the internet on certain devices I use the priority device function (I feel it works but it might be placebo)
Negatives I still experience disconnects and speed drops in the areas I wanted to fix (with the hub being next or very close to devices) I've reset/factory reset/turned off/updated/moved Hubs around Devices connect to the hub they find first, So if its the one on the other side of the house tough luck The hubs continually go off-line with no loss of power, I have to physically unplug them from the walk to get them to power on again It will tell me the internet has dropped out via the home app and won't work on my phone But other devices (and nbn box) still have internet connections The interface isn't very good Information is hard to find
Finally, stable WiFi – Between Phillips hue lights, a smart remote hub device, the TV, laptops, phones and tablets, in our household we have a lot of WiFi devices. One of the biggest issues we have is WiFi stability, part of that is bandwidth related and the other part is our signal due to where the modem lives. After trying other cheaper solutions, I bit the bullet… Read more
and finally bought the Google Nest in a two pack bundle. The setup process was straightforward through the Google Home app, within 20 minutes I had the entire house covered with strong WiFi.
The value-add of this is the speakers function as Google assistant capable speakers. If you own any Google Home devices, you can ask them to play music or other commands you would with a conventional smart speaker.
Worth keeping in mind is the Google Nest functions as a router, not a modem. In my use case I am on FTTP NBN, so I could run it straight into the NBN box without the need for a modem. Don't overlook this.
My only regret is not buying this sooner. Not only did it fix the signal issue, but everyone is a lot happier they're not fighting for bandwidth to load Netflix and check emails.
Positive reviews
This is excellent – I changed to fibre to the premises and was having all sorts of problems but this fixed the issue. I found slightly difficult to set up but once it was shown to me I realised how easy it was Show details
Really enjoying having a “hey Google” point act as a router. Nice! – Well, I needed this to deal with a recent issue having too many clients on my router. I chose a light system without a hub so my router needed more clients than it would allow. I purchased the Nest Mesh Wifi system and plugged it into my modem (You still need a modem). I get comparable speeds but not precisely what I got before. I pay for… Read more
100Mb/s down and 40Mb/s up. But it seems to be just the ticket as I have over 50 clients on my mesh system.
I loved the idea of using a Google point as a hub and that was a big selling point. I now also just bought a Google Nest Hub and loving it. There is a benefit to having both HomeKit and Google Home, they’re both great in their own way.
Another huge plus for me was the app that controls everything. I really hate having to hardwire my laptop into a modem and the app was pretty much instantaneous.
I would recommend this mesh system. Get more access points than you think you need. Worth it.
What a revelation! – I now get my full bandwidth of speed in every room across 3 levels. Easy to set up using Google home and you can manage your mesh wifi any time you want. Pausing access to devices is great to control access for children. Show details
Negative reviews
Works ok (not great), but setup is excruciating and buggy – Works adequately for the most part, but is a nightmare to set up. The app tries to do everything for you and doesn't let you manually handle anything. The problem is the app is hopelessly incapable and messes up the setup over and over to the point where the primary router unit won't work. Your only recourse is to do a factor reset and start… Read more
again... 10 or more times until you get lucky and make it through a whole setup without an error. Then you have to do it again for each individual mesh point.
I will never be buying another Google networking product.
Ok at start then went bad – Brought 3 years ago and since start of this year kept dropping out while gaming And thought it was the internet company they said the Google nest might be bad replacement with tp link mesh nest and works amazing No drop out disappointed in Google I think paid $600 - $700 with 4 Show details

Product ineffective if you change your modem – Optus issued a new modem and I was on the phone with Google for 2 hours troubleshooting trying to reconnect the Google nest to the new router. Was then told to send it back to Google (the 1 google router plus 2 add ons)for a replacement. Google sent me back just an add on…. Emailed and explained what happened . pictures of the nest I sent, proof of purchase etc. 5 emails later and 6 weeks and still it’s under investigation.
Product only useful for initial set up and after service is aweful. Would not recommend this product.

Easy to use - terrible reliability – I have a Nest system with router and 4 access points. Set up is a breeze and the family controls are very good. However, it is incredibly unreliable. Originally it was OK, but it is significantly degrading with age. These are only 2 years old. Typically now I have multiple drop outs per day requiring full system reboot. One of the access points… Read more
completely died last week. As informed consumers we expect greater reliability and durability for this kind of product.
Nice product but – This router (and the wifi points too) regularly need restarting. Google has helped with trying to fix it and they have even replaced it, but I still have the same issue. I like the features but I can't recommend it.
25% subscription increase – Owned the Google Nest for a year, and just got hit with a 25% increase from $9 a month to $12 a month subscription just to be able to save video's when I need to. Safe to say I have cancelled the subscription. Stay clear. Show details
DO NOT BUY! FAULTY PRODUCT AND USELESS CUSTOMER SERVICE – My Google Nest Wifi Point keeps disconnecting every now and then since the beginning of this year. Do not fall for "Google" name and look elsewhere if you don't want to waste your time. No more google product for me!
Product will not last long – I have add the 3 pack nest wifi purchased in 2020 August. One of the point has gone bad in a little over 2 years, the team says it is out of warranty. I have an old Cisco modem from 2006 that still works. If you want reliable mesh systems look else where. Show details
Very hard to set up and no tele-support available – I was having problems with my google nest and tried to contact the support through the google home app. and they said it was outside operating hours. This happens all the time. sometimes it worked sometimes it doesn't.
Expensive and need subscription – Batteries are good for weeks however needs to subscribe for better options and goes up the more you want, better buying standard system cheaper and free Show details
Good but very difficult to setup and configure – I've spent hours now trying to set this up and the whole Google Hub experience has been extremely difficult. If you're not tech savvy (particularly In IT networking) then you'll have a very difficult time getting this to work with Google Hub. I believe the technology needs to advance a lot further before this becomes 'great'. Right now I feel it's… Read more
still In very basic stages and needs a lot more work from Google's end. I'm disappointed in them as a company though.

Avoid if you want reliable internet with NBN – Google Customer Service blame everyone else, from ISP (Aussie Broadband), which has a strong signal to the iPhone and MacBook not being compatible and I should change to Android! I would buy if you love the hold music and speaking to customer service people and not getting any improvement. Show details
Woeful. And no manual exists so very hard to troubleshoot – What an appalling product. Only works intermittently. And astonishingly Google decided not to write a manual for the product (how that is legal I will never know). So it is incredibly difficult to try to troubleshoot. Best avoided. Show details
Waste of money Charger cable doesn’t even work – Spent hundreds of dollars on google nest to feel safe when partners away from work. Got just two uses out of the charger cable. Months later and still no cable even after re emailing them with more… Read more
promises they’ll send one. We refuse to buy another one incase that stops working too. I feel ripped off abs soo frustrated as now we have no security for our home. It’s been months now. Waste of money and losing my faith in google. We have numerous products and more I’m extremely frustrated and disappointed.
Advertisement – Hey google, I didn’t bought google nest but i have google display and your advertisements always say “hey google” which my google display catches so please change the advertisement or don’t say hey google in or something. Thank you.
Google Nest Wifi - Mesh Router and 2 Points – I have installed the Google Mesh system in my house and the wifi signal has been improved a lots inside my house! The setup is pretty simple and two Google wifi access points also can play music it is a google assistance device. The internet test speed is also pretty fast but not 5GHz. The Google mesh wifi system can be checked from your mobile remotely. Show details
Not good – I have the google nest wifi and I have speeds of 500 down to 50 up and on main router i was getting the best speeds and on the wifi points I was getting 83.3 up and 44.4 down and I also had issues and dropouts. So I ended up using my old router don’t buy it’s rubbish Show details
Google nest wifi reset – The day we got this the connection was easy plug and play through Google home app on my phone but a week into it I lost connectivity between the 2 other wifi points . company all seem ok on that end so After a factory reset and an hour later they finally meshed. They are great when they work but I have had to factory reset them 3 times now not sure why nobody can give me an answer . But the last week has been great ! fingers crossed it keeps going well . The system is fantastic when it works my father has it ! never had a problem so hope my luck changes .
THis has been great during lockdowns – Works well to extend the wifi in our two storey house. It even works as an intercom between units. Love that we can play music on them in any room as well. Sparked additional purchases of more speakers as quality of sound is great. Comparable to our Bose sound link. Show details
So easy to manage with reliable coverage – Easy to integrate to the NBN installation. Nest can support up to 200 devices, and with my current installation with 65 devices connected, no issues found. Excellent performance, coverage and throughput with the nest routers and two WIFI points. Show details
Great, but – With everything now being smart or having Wi-fi capability I upgraded my modem/router to the mesh system. It works with both 2.4ghz and 5ghz with up to 200 connectable devices. Great! However because the mesh coverage is 'smart' and disperses 'all' frequencies to give the best coverage without overlap or interference and smart enough not to… Read more
compete wot the neighbours wifi, it knocks out my wireless surround sound.
The only way to fix it is to do a 'mesh test' when/if I'm using it so it's not on the same frequency. However once off, the very next day I have crackley speakers and interference again.
Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade my sound system now... spent $500 on the mesh system, excellent stable wifi, now going to cost me 2 new surround sounds.
Brilliant – Bought this system as our wifi was (despite purchasing a booster) dead more than about 10m from the router. We’re now getting blazing fast speeds in areas that were normally dead spots - even on the lower level of the house and outside on our deck. Setup was a breeze too. You can also play music through them and use google assistant but only via… Read more

Works great. Highly recommend it if you're after an all-in-one for a Wi-Fi mesh network plus Google Nest Audio – Have had this model together mixed with a few of the standard Google Wi-Fi units to provide a seamless Wi-Fi mesh network and Google Home solution with the audio features built-in. Great when it works, crap when it doesn’t – Worked well for half a year or so then stopped working... had 4 tech people try to fix to no avail. The common comment was that it’s not uncommon for the Google next to stop working and then really hard to get it working again. Show details
