Paint over Rust. Complete write off

I bought a 2011 Toyota Hilux. The description stated the body in good condition. However the entire car had been painted including the chassis, engine, and wheels to cover RUST. The car was a complete write off as every inch was covered in rust. Of course this was not in the photos nor the description and was difficult to see in the viewing. Unfortunately they do not allow you to test drive the car but the engine was working well so I thought it was safe to purchase. When I picked up the car the man driving almost had an accident as the breaks were so bad. I should not have picked up the car but after asking several questions I was assured it was safe to drive. IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I foolishly believed this was a reputable company and would disclose all the issues with the car. However, they covered everything up with paint so the car appeared much better than it was. Unable get the car registered and unable to resale the car, this lesson has cost me over 10,000.00. This company does not have any regulations to adhere too. They do not disclose information they should. They told me they take no responsibility for what they sell yet it is their employees that provide the descriptions and answer your questions. They take advantage of people less knowledgable. I have never written a review in my life but in this case I felt it needed to be told that it's not worth buying anything here.

Their valuation is by a member of 'Australian Association of Jewellery Valuers' which operates from a house. The Association recognised by Fair Trading NSW is 'Jewellers Association of Australia Limited'. If it is too good to be true, it probably is.

a window appeared on my screen informing me i was winning bid auction ended followed a email 17 minutes latter informing me i had bein out bidder ed tryed calling was told some one would call me back never happened called them and got a nice lady but only spoke broken english so not sure what the problem was .called a guy called dave on his mobil who could not explain what was wrong and dident give a stuff. thanks for nothing gary

I bid on a non-reserve tractor and was the winning bidder for a while then another bidder started to up the bidding and then I went as high as I could and the other bidder won. That's the way it Goes I thought!....
But no!
A week or so later the same tractor was in another sale (same vendor-sale part 2) and Grays even emailed me to say I might be interested in bidding on the tractor!
When I rang to ask what was going on the auctioneer straight away suggested nothing illegal or shonky was happening but the purchaser just didn't pay! I questioned why I, as the under bidder wasn't negotiated with, and was informed the vendor wasn't happy with the price either.
Now if the other bidder hadn't outbid me I would have got the tractor at a good price in an non-reserved auction. There is a very large "Grey" area to this auctioneers terms and it all seems tilted towards them.
If you bid at auction you are under contract to pay up! I believe I was a victim of a shill bid - or if not, the Auction house should have come back to me as the under bidder.... after all it was a non-reserved auction.
Not much I can do about it now but ..... Bidder beware!

There are several reason for this e.g. It could be that the buyer is also a reseller or that for one reason or another the buyer was unable to go through with the purchase.No, I don't accept that! It was the same seller ... just part two of a sale a week or so later. As said in my original post the seller wasn't happy with a non- reserved price he achieved on the tractor... the Gray representative told me that on the phone. If the other buyer had no intention of paying then they should not have bid. If they hadn't bid then I would have been the buyer. It says in your terms that once a bid is placed it is under contract and therefore you should have taken action etc etc. I should have been contacted and had the opportunity to purchase at the price the other bidder entered the bidding. It seems very much like shill biding to me! If it's not shill bidding then you have too many plonka bidders that make this type of auction more of a joke than a serious auction and therefore people need to know.

Wrong description, condition of items different very misleading

I purchased these items on what they looked like taking the chance whether they might work or not but not THIS not only are they filthy but broken. I'm hoping they sort it out. They can keep it and give me a refund.

Shifty people cheap products. Never again

Shifty, made 2 mistakes with this company by purchasing 2 different items in 2 different occasions. I first bought floor tiles they’ve looked good when I installed them I and put the grouts on the tiles I’ve noticed tiles changed color , after an investigation I found out these tiles came out of a warehouse that was on fire and due to heat the tiles lost sealer protection and that’s why it obsered the grout color and that was a real fuck up took them court and was a big headache and time consuming that took almost a year chasing my money . My 2nd experience with this cheap shifty company was with a car I bought , false description they say body fair conditions I went to pick up and it was all dent every where on the car that never mentioned or showed on photos . Stay away not worth it , all the crap they got are just not worth money

As for the car you don’t need to be an expert to see the dents on the car and mention is on the description but rather you kno there’s people from other states who can’t make it to inspect and they just take your words for it.

GraysOnline is a scam!!! Paid $7,300 for a car and have no car

I was a winning bidder for a car I purchased a week ago. I got a phone call stating the payment must be made into an Anz account. I paid the money in full booked a flight from Melbourne to Sydney to pick up the car waited for 2 hours I was told they couldn’t find the cars key and there response was “ we can break into the car” i was in disbelief. I wanted to see the car I went to ask for a visible jacket they would not give me one when other customers were given one they said the car will be arriving that I needed to be patient. I waited till 1:30 pm they said they can’t find the keys that I could fill out a form and ask for a full refund. I got a call from Phillipines customer care telling me they are going to let me know what’s happening I haven’t slept in days and have no car or no money . Tried to put in a dispute for the funds to be transferred but still waiting. I lodged a complaint plaint with consumer affairs still waiting still waiting. Please please don’t purchase anything from these scammers. I have called they over 15 times I can’t even speak to anyone from Australia. When you call the Sydney melbourne branch they put you through to their customers care based in Manila Philippines. I don’t know what to do I’m really frustrated and stressed out. Please don’t do the mistake I did,

Cancelled after approx 10 years as it feels like they just dont care ,hide behind disclaimers and have no empathy for their customers who have been loyal and good payers to their company generating ten's of thousands of dollars to the sales result to probably shareholders .

Graysonline firewall after rubbish product

Purchased refubished smart tv a month ago. It arrived in a filthy state with marked screen. Grays promised a replcement set immediately this one was returned. Now after attempting numerous calls and many emails Graysonline have failed to respond and failed to replace the dodgy set. It was a birthday present. No present and no set. Grays have treated us with contemp and they don't care whatsoever and have failed to keep their word.

Don't buy cars from this auction. They sold me a lemon!!

Purchase a 2014 Holden Barina RS from online auction on Thursday. Apparently had service history. Log Books.

Collected the car on Friday.
Drove 10 mins down the road. Car stopped and over heated.

Tow truck to Holden.
Holden has checked car for last 2 days.

Car has about 10 different problems with it. Possibly $3-4k to fix. :(

Basically, Greys Online purchase the WORST cars, riddles with problems, sell them to us for top dollar then run away washing their hands of the situation.

I will pursue these guys under the AC Laws of 2011 and also report to consumer affairs.

Absolute criminals. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!

Do not buy from Graysonline

Car was bought via online auction and described as good condition without faults-Vic.
Upon driving it out the gate, the engine light came on showing airbag and suspension fault.
Head rests have fallen off and making major squeaking sounds when driving.
Needed to be towed from the gate, and noticed all teeming out from the engine when on the tow truck.
The repair bill has been $6000. Head rests still hang on by a thread seem to have been 'doctored'.
I will never shop there again and am spreading the word thick and fast.

Damaged Car advertised as good condition

The car was listed in VIC as good condition, mentioned nothing about scratches or damages. I can’t do inspection when I live in NSW and I trusted them when the FAQ said that they honestly report the condition of the vehicles.
I bid and won the car, however, the delivered to me was broken damages from accident, the paint has too many scratches. I also realised the photos were animated to hide the scratches and broken damages from the dark angle of the photos.

I contacted Graysonline that the car was advertised in good conditions but it was broken damages from accident. they said the car was sold as is, I should do my own inspection if I have any concerns before bidding. They totally didn’t respond about my complaint the advertised car liar about the damages condition. I didn’t have any concern before bidding but realised the advertising was liar about the major damages when the car delivered to me by Prixcar who noticed the damages straight away in their report.

The pice looked cheap but after admin fees, rego (not include fixing the damages), it is more expensive than buying from dealer. I regret that I trusted them, I will never buy Graysonline again.

Dodgy car from Grays

Just bought a car from Grays and it said that there is service history and I purchased on this basis. Upon receiving the car- there is only half the service history (10 out of 20 services). The brakes are completely defective and it can stop (not sure how this was even driven in the yard)- the brakes and suspension jolt heavily on any application. Pretty pathetic if you ask me as we cannot take for drive.

Arndell site useless as always

Wanted a car picked up from there Arndell site. I sent transport company and they couldn’t start the car. [name removed] said the owner would come and try start the car. This was 3 days ago. Don’t answer calls or emails. Terrible service

Got the clear to have the car picked up. They got the owner out to start the car. They promised me lol ready to go.

The transport company goes out again and Spends one hour there with no help from staff!!! And still doesn’t get the car going. This is a great story for current affair. I’m going to call them. Graysonline your are an absolute joke.

Buyers beware, stay away, no after sales service, big disclaimers, poor quality vendors!

[name removed] auctions are appalling, I have purchased from many auction companies and never had such bad service, lack of information and misrepresented products ever!
Basically they say they are not responsible for any of the products they sell, yet they get paid to sell it, they blame any problem on the vendor and hide behind a disclaimer that's 10 times longer than the description for the product, the product descriptions are minimal with images of new products when they are selling faulty secondhand products.
Having bought over $1400 of products which were all faulty, when I contacted the office in an email with my concerns all I received was the disclaimer as a reply on more than one occasion!
I purchased various electrical goods including a Samsung phone, tablet, earphones a Surface pro laptop and more anticipating that if they did have a problem, I could pay to have them repaired, however this was not possible as most of the products were from different countries and even repairs are not supported in Australia!
I have also viewed other items that were misrepresented such as a badly hail damaged caravan that didn't mention the damage....
therefore they are scammers that simply do not care about what they sell and it must be said that NO WHERE else in the country can you get away by selling a faulty product and take a premium from the sale without any recourse, there are laws to protect consumers in both the new-retail sector and second hand goods however auctions such as this just have a disclaimer which excludes any form of responsibility.......
I recommend you stay clear and read the other negative comments that all seem to have the same negative experiences and lack of response.

Buyers Beware - Liars Beware

Purchased motor vehicle from Graysonline. Lied about the condition of MV, had a blown turbo, noise coming from engine, engine light on when I picked it up. Mark, scratches and dents everywhere, incredibly obvious but was not described or disclosed in the advert. Said there was a spare key as described - that was a lie too. When I picked up the car, it was undriveable. Had to pay for a TOWIE truck from Wollongong to Campbelltown (freight Depo). They Did not disclose all the obvious problems with it. They lied through their teeth. Paid several thousands of dollars to have a new turbo put it and fix other issues. Do NOT buy off 'GraysonLies'. Tried to address this with their staffing VIC and to peacefully resolve this but they denied anything being wrong with the car when they advertised it. Criminals. Worst customer service ever!

We do not perform any mechanical checks on cars at our warehouse prior to listing. The booking in officer will only try to turn the engine on to confirm whether the car starts or not. We do understand that the car wasn't in the condition that you expected but unfortunately we are unable to assist any further with this situation.You have described many many vehicles in the past and present when there is an obvious noise coming from the motor. When you turned it on, how did you not hear it??? It was so pathetically obvious that I could not drive the car home. I actually pulled over a kilometre after picking it up from the freight depot. As for all the marks, scratches and dents - you always state this in your advert when they are obvious and evident. My car was ridiculously obvious and evident. You've put these on thousands of other car adverts in the past, why not on the car that I purchased? The car advert was completely MISLEADING. Clearly you either INCOMPETENT or this was a massive favour where a (Gray's) 'Mate looking after a mate' and I (innocent buyer) copped the bad car, crap purchase and a horrible experience. Bottom line, you cannot be trusted!

Positive experience with Grays over many years

Grays is an auction house and their descriptions are largely based on information supplied to them. Grays will pass on the vendor's description and maybe test to see if electrical items power on or cars turn over. It is the buyer's job to assess whether the item is worth bidding on, and an inspection is the best way of doing this. If you bid without inspecting, or pay more than you can afford, particularly for a second-hand car where some amount of repairs or maintenance is to be expected, then you could well be inviting disappointment. It's true that you can't take their cars for a test drive, but you can literally spend hours on the lot checking the vehicle over from top to bottom (bring closed-toe shoes!), or even bring an experienced mechanic with you. Looking at the photos in the listing is NOT an inspection. Newish cars are not necessarily fault-free and most cars have known issues that can be quickly found with a Google search, so your physical inspection should take these into account as well.

I bought a Golf 2001 car for my wife from Grays auction with 1 month rego and 75000kms on clock (i believe someone reversed the oddo meter) they cheated the kilometers... i paid around $3200 engine was polished with car shine oil. with in 2 days car battery died, i changed it for $260 i noticed its was loosing cooling water, so i took to workshop. the mechanic said water pump is leaking we have to replace it... and its cost me $800. gearbox stopped working, i called around for gearbox the auto mechanic quote me $1500, and same time central locking stopped working. then i had enough from my car, and i sold it for $500 (I lost $5000 dollars). Graysonline sale faulty cars, my advise is if you are not a auto mechanic don't go to Grays auction. all happened with in 2 months. I have young kids and im broke.

Volkswagen are renounced for producing unreliable cars. You should have gone for a Toyota.

A car I wanted was up for auction and the auction ended but it had no bidders. Is there any way I can buy the car for the starting bid price as it didn’t sell?
