Had this 42" cut for just over 10 years and put 300 hours on it mowing a 1 acre block. During that time I have replaced a couple of drive belts and a couple of cutter belts ( use gates belts if available), 1 drive belt idler bearing 12 dollars, 1 drive shaft, and 1 cork clutch drive. All the work done by me so not a lot of money spent but quite a… Read more
bit of time. The 25 hp briggs has been trouble free so far and when the mower is running it's as good as any other brand as I believe they all have problems depending on how they are used. They built to a price and some of the engineering could be better but no matter what brand just look at the reviews and you get my drift. If you are going to need to take any brand mower to the seller for maintenance and every time a belt or bearing fails be prepared for a lot of inconvenience and big bills. It's my opinion that you need to be able to do your own, I'm 81 and still manage. If you can't do it yourself save the money and get a mowing guy to come in and do it and let him worry about broken belts and bearing etc.
Absolute waste of money, piece of junk! – My husband bought this 10 months ago for $6500 and we have today had to take it back to the retailer for the 4th time. Breaks down, belt slips off and yesterday part of the metal blades flew out and now it wont cut. We have received a refund though and have gone back to John Deer for and have had no problems their products run like a dream Show details
A lemon – Bought 7 years ago in the belief that it was a robust mower. Use of the mower has largely been spring-summer, very little use through Winter. Issues: (1) After one year it leaked fuel onto the floor of the driving seat area and was repaired under warranty. (2) Maintenance is highly expensive. Just one of the routine services (i.e. a regular… Read more
service that was not initiated by any problem) cost $1100 ! Others were in the high hundreds. (3) A persistent nuisance: the cutting deck would often fail to re-engage after being switched off while the ride on was running. (4) The belt did continually come off until we fixed it ourselves. The belt has not been a problem since. (5) Now, the motor has inexplicably failed despite routine maintenance servicing. We are trying to get a repair done. The replacement motor is likely to cost in the vicinity of $2000 - if we can get one at all. The correct motor is proving very difficult to completely impossible for our service mechanic to source. And it isn't just a straightforward fit; we're told most of the eligible replacement motors have to be modified to some degree to fit. We've verified this information with other suppliers and servicers. What's the go with making genuine parts unavailable after just 7 years !? "Disappointed" is an understatement. This brand shouldn't even be allowed to be sold in this country if the manufacturer doesn't intend to maintain a parts inventory here. I wouldn't go near it again.
Piece of junk – I brought my greenfield mower brand new about 5 years ago in Geelong mower shop,l have had nothing but trouble with it since the day l got it,it now has about 50 hours on it now and has had at least 10 deck drive belts in that time, won’t even gut 3inch high grass with out breaking the belts, been back to dealer more times than l can remember told… Read more
me he had had enough of it and sorry can’t help me anymore and in my opinion got his sale and not interested in solving my problems with mower,$6200 down the drain would not buy from him again and definitely not go near a greenfield again.
Motor failed – 330 hours and the motor just gave up the ghost, it started dieseling huge quantities of black smoke, I didn't try and fix it, I just bought a new Kohler Show details
Great Mower for Rough Terrain, 20 Years Old & Still Steaming Along! – Greenfield made a great ride on mower 20 years ago, it cut through grass 4 foot high, the front of the mower would lift up and cut through the grass at its own pace, but it always got the job done! The Honda 12 or 13 HP motor just keeps on going and has never let us down and has been well worth paying the extra money at the time! My only issue… Read more
with the older Greenfield Ride On Mowers is the drive train! When a belt breaks or if we get it serviced, we always seem to have troble with the mechanics who work on the mower for us. At the start we had a Greenfield dealer work on the mower with no problems, they stopped their delivery service, so we tried the local mower shop, it was a total disaster, they put on a new "V" belt, but they also put the clutch on back to front so the mower wouldn't go up the smallest of inclines (not Greenfields fault), long story cut short, we went to the nearest Greenfield dealer (35 km's away) he fixed the problem and told us the clutch was fitted back to front! So we went their for the next service, they did the same thing as the last guy, the clutch was refitted the wrong way! We are now on our fouth or fifth mechanic, who still has trouble every now and them with the same issue of the clutch, depending on the mechanics or apprentices they have working on the mower. Greenfield made a great mower, but trying to find a competent person to be able to consistantly repair the mower and to be able to use it immediately after the initial service is quite rare, we still have problems. Once again this is not Greenfields problem! However, they manufacture a product which apparently isn't as straight forward as other manufacturers drive train products maybe. We are in the market to replace our old Greenfield mower (we are still going to keep it as a spare, it would be hard to part with it, its part of the family now). My concern with buying a new Greenfield mower, is do they still use the same drive train as we have? There is no way I want a mower with the same problems we have faced where mechanics struggle to consistantly service and repair the mower and hope it works when it is delivered back to us, We don't live in the middle if know where, we live in Macclesfield Victoria in the Yarra Ranges. I want to buy an Australian ride on mower, 20 years ago we paid $5,000 for the Greenfield mower, I am happy to pay $9,000 - $10,000 for my next mower, but I don't feel confident in buying a Greenfield or a Cox ride on mower at the moment looking at the problems they both face, it breaks my heart to have to look else where!
Yellow Piece of Garbage – This is my first ride on mower which I bought for serviving 2 acres of land. Every time I use it it costs me money in repairs or it will not even want to start. I have spent literally $1000s on this piece of junk and warn anyone against purchasing a Greenfield. An absolute piece of garbage. Show details
Terrible mower. Terrible customer service – Purchased new 42 inch cut ride after reading many reviews it is the worst thing I purchased. I want my money back. has have to had 4 temporary repairs to the throttle cable whilst waiting over 18 months for GreenField to supply a new throttle cable assembly with constant phone calls with either no return calls or promises that a new cable will be available soon.
Does GreenField have any idea how long it takes to mow 2 acres with a 15 year old Honda push mower that by the way still starts first time every time. I have lost count of the number of times I've had to mow by hand whilst my $7000 mower is in the shop again getting temporarily fixed.
Oh and the add also said that a grass catcher is available for the 42 inch fast when in fact it's not. Another reason they should give me a refund. I'm sick and tired of raking grass.
My mower only has 50 hours on the clock and when it does start it doesn't even give a nice finish to the lawn. Please save yourself some money and get something else.
GreenField give my money back.
Don’t buy a new Greenfield! – I bought what I thought was the best mower for the money to mow 3 acres. What a joke.....constantly breaking cutting (8) & drive (3) belts, had all the cutting deck pulleys replace twice, had a fire on the deck when another pulley ran dry & overheated, now a 3rd rebuild of the drive coming up. I rarely get more than 2 cuts out of this heap of garbage before something else goes wrong. Show details

Nice mower, happy with the Greenfield – I bought the toughest mower I could find, still no match for my jumping rocks. It has performed well for over two years considering the abuse. The 5 acre block was originally covered in 3 foot high tussock grass. It made short work of that but I did it in stages and let the mower relax between beers. Easy to maintain. I did have to adjust… Read more
choke/throttle cable on the carby after 10 hours use as it stretched a little and wouldn't start. 5 min job. A handbrake warning light would be nice.
It tends to lift the rocks out of the ground and chew them up. The mower blade plate tabs then bend up causing the blades to hit the deck. Two shifters will bend the tabs back, so it is not too bad compared to the others. I might take it to a shop with a lift soon as it is hard going to get under the deck and line the two plate tabs up evenly. No steel deck option available when I purchased so there is not much left of the aluminium one. I have cleared 3 acres of the jumping rocks, I just hope the deck survives before the other 2 acres are cleared.
I have had no problems with the belts (I check and de-grass after each heavy use) and have never cleaned the deck as I only mow when it is dry. 110 hours use now. Easy to steer and forward/reverse is best in class. The 25HP does use more petrol though, I think the 17hp would have been enough but I am a HP guy.
Now i know why they paint them yellow, because their lemons – The only good thing in this mower is the Kawasaki v-twin the rest of it, i.e. the drive system pullies & discs, don't bother having to replace corks I had to replace the whole thing at a cost of well over $600.00 and I did the work myself and the mower only had around 90hrs. The paint is rubbish, no under coat just yellow paint on bare metal, I… Read more
know this because the yellow started peeling of and the underneath of the paint sample was yellow no undercoat. The, and my worst nightmare is the catcher, I get showered with dirt etc. because the holes are too big, I spoke to a rep regarding my problems, he agreed the catcher is rubbish but cant do anything about it because "the old man designed it". I could go on but that's enough bar saying I would never by another greenfield product again. Oh 1 more thing, the people at wilsons mower centre in maryborough were on the whole mostly very rude to deal with after the initial purchase. My mower is not mentioned above it is a fast cut 16-34 with Kawasaki v twin & catcher & front blade .$6479.00 good dollars down the drain. has any of the design team ever heard of hydrostatic drive and light weight mesh catchers.
Greenfield deluxe quality mower – Good quality mower, 7 th Greenfield in 36 years of living on acreage. took Greenfield 10 years to fix these problems. Good re sale value, I sold my old Fast cut 34" which was in good cond. for $3000.00 on Gumtree. These mowers are good quality, and will last , if you look after them and service them regulary. Remember they are a lawn mower not an 80HP tractor and slasher.

UNRELIABLE: Greenfield Deluxe Fastcut 25 Hp 42" Cut – My 30 year old Bolens 18Hp V-twin 42" cut is more reliable than its replacement, the "Flagship" of the Greenfield armarda, 25 HP Fastcut Deluxe 42" cut. As per other Product Review's of this lawn tractor, it spends more time having both drive belt and cutting belt being replaced, than actually out doing work! been pushing their mowers too hard. Not the case. Only asking mine to cut 2.0 acres of lawn, as I have a 75 hp tractor and slasher for the heavy duty stuff.
PROS;
Build quality is terrific, seat very comfortable for a tall person, what a terrific canary yellow paint job! This mower just looked so special in the dealer's show room.
Very powerful 25HP V-twin motor, perhaps it just has too much torque for the belts???
Australian made, so spare parts availability for years to come.
CONS:
Currently under 50 hours on the clock and 3 drive belts and 3 cutting belts later. Engineering an issue. Product Recall required ???
This mower creates a Mallee dust storm every time it is used. The exhaust from the twin mufflers is directed downward by the bumper bar protecting them from damage. Start off with clean overalls and come off the mower after 2.0 hours looking like I have been on the Dakar Rally.
Fuel tank is too small for a V-Twin 25 HP motor. Easy to run out of fuel.
Hand brake is behind the driver's legs, and easily forgotten. No warning light like a car / tractor.
DISAPPOINTMENTS:
Christmas 2016 I received a Genuine Greenfield "Grader Blade" for this mower. Within 10 minutes use after fitment, I realized there was a problem. Contacted Greenfield and received very prompt customer service. The Grader Blade DOES NOT FIT the 42" cut model because Greenfield extended the chassis by 75mm or so to take the 42" mower deck. We received a refund in full for the grader blade from the dealer, just the inconvenience of fitting and unfitting the part and damage to the brake peddle and rubber ( rubber replaced for free ).
RECOMMENDATION:
Bad investment (RRP $7,000+ ); Unreliable due to premature belt perishing.
Do not purchase this Flagship 42" cut from Greenfield.
ADDENDUM:
I have now imported Gates Blade Runner belts from the USA. Drive Belt: 6652BR and Cutting Belt: 6599BR. The drive belt is marginally shorter and the adjustment pulley is now sitting at midway adjustment rather than nearly at full adjustment, so there is now more tension on the automatic adjustment spring. After 5 hours of operations the belt is not showing any signs of perishing, and the hydrostatic foot control is also more responsive (able to go very slowly if I want to).
My second Greenfield - tough, reliable & no problems at all – This Greenfield is the 2nd I have owned and I have had no trouble with it at all. I have a 5 acre property with large flat but rough areas to mow. I have no grazing animals so keeping the grass down is an ongoing challenge..I find my Greenfield handles both the rough and the smooth extremely well. Love this mower – After having problems with my old mower, I decided to buy a Greenfield based upon reviews of other users and that it was Australian made. I was lucky to find a used 34 deluxe model on gumtree with a 13hp Honda engine that had about 100 hours on it. I have only put around 60 hours on it but I can tell you that so far I am rapped with it. I mow an… Read more
approx. 1 hectare area with some rough areas and it cuts the grass really well. It is really a pleasure to use. Love the heel/toe drive system and it just does what it is supposed to do without fuss. Feels very solid giving me confidence that this thing is going to last me a long time if I look after it. The steering is nice and light with good feedback and comfortable steering wheel. The Honda engine on mine is also nice and very quiet to the point that you feel you dont really need earmuffs although I use them anyway as my hunting days have left my hearing less than adequate (I recommend you should always use earmuffs anyways). The seat is quality and although the mower seems smaller in overall size/appearance than my old mower, the cockpit position is comfortable for me but a little more sport oriented with legs stretched out a little compared to my old machine that was more tractor/seated upright like. I have not had any problems at all since I have owned it. One small criticism is turning circle is not great on these but this is not really an issue as you get used to the heel/toe drive system and just do an extra 3 point turn here and there. They are on the expensive side compared to other imported models but in my opinion they are well worth it so if you can afford it, buy one and I am sure you will not regret it.
Iv'e had mine for 10 years now! – After owning a few different brands of ride on mowers over the years, for contracting work (3 years) and owning 3 acreage properties over a 26 year period I couldn't see myself using any other brand but a Greenfield I have the superseded model with the Honda 13 hp engine that would be the equivalent to the 34" Deluxe series 17.5 hp available today… Read more
of the same design, less the few extra hp.
This Greenfield is so easy and a pleasure to use. It can handle long thick grass easily up to 3-4 feet on high setting and is an excellent finishing mower that will give you a beautiful clean crisp even finished cut.......not because of the engine but because of the design of Greenfields Deck and cutting system.
To many people complain on here about the engine won't start or the battery went flat or a puncher that has nothing to do with the actual mower itself.
The Toe and Heal drive system is the best system available today...In my opinion, it makes maneuvering back and forth so quick and easy and is practically fool proof compared to hydrostatic drive which is slower to react and costs a bomb when it fails..(which they sometimes do), ground speed is nice and quick (and variable)
I Snapped a drive belt once and just followed the owners manual instructions and replaced it myself with not to much trouble at a cost of about $35
The turning circle isn't as bad as some say but the quick action of the heal and toe drive makes up for that. The Diff lock on the deluxe model is a god sent for hills and slopes and wet ground.
Construction is solid as a rock....All metal bonnet and guards not plastic, Thick alloy cutter deck and a comfortable large seat and light steering.
OK...there not that cheap to buy but you get what you pay for and in this case I see it as Very good value for your money. You will get a good solid, (made for Australian conditions) Machine that will outlast any American/European/Japanese brand, just have a look at the second hand ones for sale on the net, there mostly around 20-30 years old and still going strong! Were as for other imported brands of that age have gone to the scrap heap long before...what dose that tell you! I know because I've owned some of those so called big name brands and they've let me down in Build Quality, Drive system and structural failures, Cut finish and design faults.
So if your looking for a Solid and simple...(less to go wrong) Quality Built, Easy to use Ride On that will last you a long time with not to much that can go wrong, and easy to maintain yourself, THIS IS YOUR MOWER
Just remember to look after it, Keep it clean, change the oil every 6-12 months Clean the air filter every month and change your blades when worn... you will be OK.
Fastcut 34 Manjufacturing Quality – I bought a new Greenfield Fastcut 34, deliberate choice based on reviews and my dislike of the dual blade American format. sliced a huge lump out of my finger. I could get NO response from he factory and the dealer said they would order a new cable - 4 to 5 weeks ago! I eventually fitted a wooden throttle lever end with a s=bolt and epoxy resin. Now it appears I have t o remove the tank to get at the throttle tension adjustment. This requires removal of the engine cooling fan cowl. To remove the tank one have to undo a slotted scree just in front of the steering colomn, space available about 80 mm. I had to make a bengt end screw driver. The sc rew was held by a simple bent steel clip into which the screw " cut" a hole. In my opinion as an engineer this whole design if of very inferior standard and suffers from poor QA as well. I will replace the screw with a hex head bolt and Nyloc nut - how simple it could have been with proper engineering design. At $6000 I expected better!. If I could afford it I would trade it on something better designed. Disgraceful Australian Design how will you compete with overseas products with such poor products.
Belt life – Before I bought mine most of my mates recommended Greenfield a few of them complained about breaking belts so I bought a spare set with the mower, I have 225 hours on the mower now with no belt problems, i haven't even needed to adjust themand I have it working in some pretty tough conditions but I think 200 hours is probably reasonable for a… Read more · 1

November 5th 2017 Update: Starter motor
I have 305 hours now the ignition switch failed causing the starter motor to remain engaged and destroy itself, I though I was sharp enough to pick up on something like that but apparrently not. I replaced the switch with something better, $170 dollars for a new starter motor.
The front left wheel bracket on the cutting deck broke off, it was always getting bent it was only a matter of time I just made up a new bracket a bit heavier.
The starter motor was a bit of a disappointment but the rest of it I just put down to rough use

dealer has replaced everything he and his mechanic can think of. They contacted the manufacture to remedy the situation. Numerous moving parts replaced. The dealer takes it to his own home to test. It breaks down again.

Speak with the warranty dept at Greenfield in Brisbane and told another person is dealing with this matter and he is in a meeting (???????????) I I am told this person will contact me. That was a week ago. STILL WAITING. Two emails have also not been responded to.

Greenfield 21/34 – I have been mowing sections of these 5 acres for 18 years. Ground is gentle slope with areas of very thick clump type grass. I never mow until grass is over one foot high. My previous two mowers have been brand name twin rotor deck type mowers. One was 12.5hp 39 inch and the other was 13.5 hp 38 inch. Both of these mowers would mow… Read more
long grass in two or three
passes. Both of these mowers would leave a center
ridge in the mowing path on a single pass. Where
the grass was thick the decks would clog wilth
undischarged grass and the deck drive belt began
slipping, resulting in smoke coming from the belt
friction. Often these mowers would shut down when
the blades came into contact with very dense stands
of clump grass. This caused the need for frequent
re-starting and sometimes flattening the battery. Both
of these mowers would perform well in areas of well maintained grass, which I don't have.
I bought the 21 hp , 34 inch Greenfield riding mower
because I had heard that it could cut long grass. The
single rotor blade speed is higher due to the increased
arc radius. This mower cuts clean in a single pass at a
deck height level of 2 or three. The other mowers both required a deck height of 4 or 5 on first pass. Grass
ejection is better than the two other mowers and thick
grass has not stopped the blade rotor from turning, as happened with the other mowers
In the first hour of mowing the engine would run for
a few minutes and then cut out. It took me a couple
hours to track down the problem. The dealer had
covered the foam air cleaner cover in oil. The Briggs
& Stratton manual for this engine model 330000 states.
DO NOT OIL THE FOAM AIR CLEANER COVER , the
engine had been running way too rich because the
air flow to the engine was blocked by oil on the air
cleaner cover. After cleaning and replacing the air
filter cover the engine ran well.
One thing to watch out for when operating the heel
& toe drive while working in closely spaced trees with
alot of forward & reverse, is to use the left side foot
brake as the the heel & toe brake is not precise in
stopping. I ran into a tree while learning this.
I was impressed by vast improvement in mowing performance. I love this thing.

last and I highly recommend Greenfield as a good Aussie quality brand. These are well built and strong with heavier gauge steel than some of the other mowers on the market. The single 34 inch cutting disk will cut almost anything in my bush paddock and still do a great job on the lawn. The diff lock gives almost go anywhere traction - I tow a small trailer full of wood up a 20 degree grassy muddy slope with no problems. The heel toe control is easy to use and makes maneuvering around trees and rocks easy. A bit expensive but you are paying for quality, and something that will last.
Excellent – I purchased the Greenfields Deluxe 34" series 19.5hp B&S after considerable research, I nearly went the John Deere X300. expensive to replace. We then discussed the merits of different ride on mower brands, he highly recommended the Greenfields. Consequently, I purchased and I have now completed 5 hours of mowing / slashing. I am a satisfied owner at this stage. Cast alloy high impact 34" deck, chews through and discharges thick grass with relative ease. The locked differential provides the needed traction for steep paddocks. The low centre of gravity gives you the confidence to mow tricky terrain. The clever transmission system provides a reliable, effective forward, slowing, stopping and reversing system, even on steep terrain. When talking to mechanics that work on ride on mowers this robust transmission should also provide a relatively trouble free life in comparison to the sealed Hydrostatic units on most other ride on mowers. This is a solidly built unit from the ground up using decent heavy gauge frame metal, cast alloy deck, corrosion resist galvanised sheet metal body and quality parts. The B & S 19.5hp is a just ok on steep terrain but I would go the 22hp V-Twin. The Fuel tank requires filling too often, a larger tank would make a difference. The rear tyres tread pattern could be a bit more aggressive.
What a disappointment! – What a disappointment! After spending a lot of time reading reviews and speaking to Greenfield owners, I thought that I may have found an answer to my mowing problems. thought for the first four hours at least that I had made the right choice this time. But no, before it reached its first service, 5 hours, I had to replace a guide pulley that simply came apart. It also damaged the drive belt, which eventually needed replacement.
The first 50 hour service cost nearly $200 at which time I complained that it was very hard to start, both cold and hot.
The answer that time was something to do with the blades not disengaging, to which I paid special attention to eliminate any "rubbish" gumming up the works in that area.
It has been back to the workshop, and one onsite visit some 4 times since, with causes stated at various times as being the cut out switch under the seat, to a stiff choke, to some belt, and now they are saying that it is the battery which is causing the problem,(another $80+). We will have to wait and see on that one.

is really uneven. I have accidentally driven over some serious tree roots, animal bones and rocks. My friend tried to help me out and mowed but drove it into a bog (the mower stopped, it sunk down a bit), after pulling it out it still ran fine, thank god! I have had it serviced according to the schedule and put fuel in it, that's it, I have no time to baby it. The point is, its had it tough, its scratched from vegetation, the rubber bit of the shoot is a bit chewed up and it never did look pretty but its doing as I was told - handling steep slopes, cutting the grass well and coping with hazards - no rust and starts easily. After a year the yard is looking less a paddock and much more like a lawn, even though I don't mow it as much as I should. I am giving 4 stars - mostly because I haven't had it long enough to feel I can give it a definitive rating. Cons, the lever that engages the mower blade, sometimes pops out of the 'off' position. It is a bit tight in the leg room department (people over 6 foot would probably struggle a lot) - a holder for a water bottle would be nice for summer. So far - reliable and tough! Tall people might find it a bit squishy, nowhere to put a water bottle.
Excellent – The mower makes a beautiful quick job of my lawn, is a great unit and a pleasure to use, I would buy another one. The diff makes turning easy and doesn't scuff up your lawn like having a fixed axle does, engaging the diff lock enables it to handle the rough a lot better.
Nothing has failed on this mower yet The front left wheel on the cutting deck is mounted with lighter gauge metal than the other three and has a tendency to bend up out the way in the rough, it might be that I am just being too rough with it.
The diff lock can be difficult to disengage, I have found lifting one back wheel off the ground will unload the diff and you can then disengage it, a minor problem.
