My first Hisense Heat Pump Dryer Series 5 HDFS80H, which I originally left a 5-star review for here, suffered a compressor failure in less than 2 years. I replaced it with another Hisense Heat Pump Dryer Series 3 HDFS80HS only because I wanted my laundry appliances to continue matching visually.

The dryer looks more or less similar externally, but the quality difference is immediately noticeable. The build quality is nowhere near the old Series 5 model, which was no longer available for purchase at The Good Guys. Even small things feel cheaper the end-of-cycle chime sounds different, the door is much harder to open, and the control panel and plastics feel like lower-grade material with a duller finish.

In under 12 months, the replacement unit developed an intermittent squeaking/grinding noise during operation. To make matters worse, the customer service experience has been appalling. Instead of helping, they make you feel discouraged from pursuing the issue further whenever they reply with “no fault observed”. I spent around 5 hours going back and forth over emails with Hisense last Thursday, only to contact The Good Guys Concierge and be redirected straight back to Hisense again.

At this point, I seriously question the reliability of these dryers, especially in Australia’s humid subtropical climate (Queensland). If the product cannot reliably handle normal environmental conditions long-term, it should not be marketed as a durable heat pump dryer for Australian homes.

Very disappointing experience overall, especially considering this was already a replacement unit after a major failure.

Follow-up  · I won't change the star rating, my experience with Hisense could have been better. Never again will I buy this brand. How has your experience been since your original review? After some persistence on my part, Hisense sent a technician a week later. He diagnosed a drainage issue requiring new parts (Reminder, Hisense replied - 'no issues identified'). Shortly after, Hisense called to say they wouldn't be repairing it and offered a replacement. I pushed for a full refund instead and bought an 8kg Bosch Series 8. Fingers crossed this one lasts! What caused the first failure? It began making a vibrating, abnormal noise as if it were blocked, despite regular maintenance. It was so noisy we had to keep the laundry room door closed. What type of clothes do you dry? Towels (1–2 times a week) and regular clothing (3–5 loads on rainy weeks). How often do you use it? 1 to 7 times a week.

Purchased in at The Good Guys for $668.

I recently bought the Hisense 8kg Heat Pump Dryer and it’s been a great addition to my apartment. The size is perfect for a smaller laundry space, but it still fits a decent amount of washing. It runs quietly, dries clothes well, and I love that it’s energy efficient. Definitely recommend it if you’re in an apartment or tight on space.
