Absolute beast of a mower – Have owned this mower for 8 years and it is an absolute beast. Starts first time, every time, has never failed me once. Powerful and gives a perfect cut every time. Show details
always needs to be repaired – when I purchased the mower the idea was supposedly to buy what i thought was quality so it would last me. the use of the mower is very low, as I use my ride's on for 98% of mowing and just tidy up with the Honda around the tight areas the dealer is fairly apathetic to the repairs. just keeps charging as mentioned in some of the reviews it does not… Read more
rev it just idles with occasional increase in revs The mower is in for repairs more than it gets used Frustrating Mower and absolute waste of the extra money spent I still have an old mower a very popular older brand which always has to be brought out as the substitute I have said it many times before but as soon as it is fixed this time it will be sold and i will buy another brand
Fantastic Lawnmower!! – I am gobsmacked on other peoples' reviews! I purchased my first Honda lawnmower in 2018, to replace my rusting Victa lawnmower that I owned for 13 years. You cannot compare the two. The Victa was like a toy in comparison. I have always bought a "cheaper" lawnmower, but this time decided to buy a Honda (more expensive) and it is fantastic. No… Read more
issues whatsoever. After the first oil change after 6 hours of use, I did the next oil change after 50 hours of use, so 3 years and 9 months later. No issues and oil level the same. Going forward I will change the oil a bit sooner, as I noticed a slight increase in power after the oil change. I change the air filter every 2 years that costs $15 for an original, and do a clean in between. I do the oil changes myself - very easy. My block is 1,000 sqm and works great. The spark plug will last ages. I might change the blade myself when needed, or pay to get this done. Some good advice I got from an old timer in the business to get longevity from a lawnmower, is to change the air filter regularly. :-)
Honda Hrn216pkua review – I am disappointed this lawn mower I brought today does not have anyway to increase the revolutions as it seems to operate at idle only. Poor design and it should be modified
The Free Gift, That I want to give back – Avoid. I was given one free, it was taken into be serviced, new spark plugs etc.. with in a week it stopped working again... it was free and bad. Avoid. Show details
Great mower – I have 1/4 acre and maneuvering this mower is not for smaller land sizes. It's cut is brilliant and a perfect size for my purposes. The engine is superb and it starts every time. The grass catcher is the best I have ever had, it is allowed to breathe so fills up and is easy to carry and tip clippings out. Show details
It a ok mower – Brought 2018 - 2019 it's okay it was crap at first kept back firing when I brought it and when it's lower to the ground it back fires serviced it still back fired changed the filter and don't really back fires as much only when it's low The wheel came off lost the washer I don't know why Bag ripped a little bit talk to Honda and they said if… Read more
you don't have the receipt I can't get a replacement bag even know it says life time replacement bag free Hard to push some areas
Great mulching mower - no need to deal with grass cuttings – Nearly didn't buy after reading comments. My old mower (big bob) cost $600 24 years ago so that makes the honda at $700 a cheap mower. Bought the honda for the catcher but found mucking around with a catcher is not for me. Would have got rid of it but for the way it mulches the grass (and leaves) to nothing. It was harder to push than the old… Read more
mower but with a bit tweaking the front wheels turn a lot more freely. If you think mulching is better than catching I definitely recommend this mower.
Great motor crap mower – Brought through bunnings in 2019. This would be the best engine I have ever owned. As for the mower it is too heavy to push, you can't cut the lawn low enough and as far as adjustment for height goes it is useless. Is either way too high and can't go low enough. Have brought a second hand victa so I can cut my lawn down low to remove the spongy… Read more
grass. These mowers may be fine on very level smooth lawns but as I said useless on the average uneven block. They cut and mulch like a champ, start well plenty of power but the mower base lets them down big time
Very disappointed with this Honda mower – Was super excited getting this mower, was keen to get a good brand! Unfortunately I’m pretty disappointed with it and upset I sold my old Victa to buy it. If grass is wet and a bit long it’s a mission to use, very heavy and hard to push. I find it sinks into my grass a lot because it’s so heavy. Doesn’t catch all grass very well either... my… Read more
reason for upgrade was a bigger catcher and deck size. Even mowing half over my last line it doesn’t catch well.
I bypassed the safety engine brake because it’s a pain! Also adjusted governor spring to get more power because it constantly stalls!
And worst of all the cutting height adjustments are too far between, can never get it right, why I let myself purchase a mower that sets heights from 4 different positions is beyond me!
What I do like: looks pretty cool, big fuel tank, I like the pull cord being easily accessible.
Hoping to resell soon and get something better.
Good mulching and cutting mower that deals with most situations – I've had mine for almost 4 years now and know it back to front. It mulches nicely and is up to cutting our tough, thick kikuyu couch even when it's been left to grow long. The deck is solid and the motor sufficiently strong. It's always started first or second pull and the only gripe I have is with the height settings. Lowest is ok if you have a… Read more
dead flat lawn bowls type of lawn. the next height setting up is about an inch too high for what I want, and I rarely need to go to anything higher.
All in all I'm pleased with it and glad to have spent a few hundred more over the cheaper brands out there.
Entry level commercial grade mower – This mower is awesome. Sturdy, powerful, reliable and well designed. I'm a professional gardener and this is a tool for the gardener who cuts a lot of domestic lawns and some commercial premises under 500 square meters (you'd need the walk behind powered wheel version after this). Most negative comments could addressed by reading the manual… Read more
properly. Namely: 1. Really long grass should only be cut by 1/3 of it's length then left a week and repeat cut. This mower has proved powerful enough to cut long damp grass if it's at max cutting height. 2. The wheels are independently adjustable rather than one lever to do all wheels. The manual suggests that if you've got a lawn covered with fallen leaves you Jack the front wheels up, leave the back ones down and mulch the leaves into the lawn. This couldn't be done if all wheels moved with one lever. Because this mower cuts up the grass really fine with the two blade system (like a bi-plane) it can really pack in the grass to the grass catcher. This allows more mowing between empties; very efficient. Lastly at first I wondered why the engine stopped every time the throttle lever was fully released (why no idle?). This is probably a safety feature or fuel saving, either way it starts back up first time with a quick pull on the starter, simple and effective. Change the oil and air filter as per the manual and the spark plug every 2 years and this excellent mower will last a lifetime.
Cutting height issue – Bought this mower as I trust the Honda brand, have only had it a few weeks but so far it starts first time, is reasonably quiet and it cuts the lawn nicely. I don't think the motor is under powered as some others have found. Everything is good except the cutting height adjustments, the lowest height is too low and the next height up is too high, I… Read more
am going to have to try and add another height myself or see if I can lower the blade height slightly.

Worst mower I've ever used – If your grass is perfectly dry and not very long then this mower will do an OK job - but so will any mower. If there is a hint of moisture or your grass is actually of a length that needs cutting then this mower will do a lousy job. The engine is underpowered and always seems to be struggling. It is difficult to push, the bars are at the wrong… Read more
height and angle and it is heavy and cumbersome. It will not properly cut or catch any grass that is even slightly damp, but clogs and leaves more grass on the lawn than in the catcher. Mine had to go back to the dealer within two weeks because it wouldn't run and it's needed its fuel system pulled apart and cleaned multiple times. My previous mower was a simple mulcher with a cheap Chinese motor, and it was ten times the mower that this bit of junk is.
The best mower – Purchased from bunnings started it up and tested it out it rips through high grass like butter my old commercial rover could not do what the honda does and it's a domestic mower same as the commercial they have the same engine was looking at a commercial honda but opted to buy the 700 dollar mower does the same job Show details
Piece of crap – Ive bought honda products for many years, motorbikes whippersnippers generators etc ive read a few comments about this model I just wish I had reviewed the comments before I bought it. As ive always trusted honda to be a very good brand that has never let me down however I am very disappointed that Honda has produced a model like this. It does… Read more
the most poor quality cut, hard to push, does not cut low enough and the front guard bites in the grass. We live in an area where we don't get a lot of rain but for the average persons lawn to mow I would not recommend this mower to be suitable in my opinion. I am highly disappointed that Honda has produced such a piece of equipment as far as I am concerned in my opinion they should all be recalled as this model is giving Honda a bad name after many years of producing good products. I am very disappointed in this model. However the rest of my Honda products I have found to be of a very high standard.
I enjoy doing my lawn now – I have purchased other brands before and they got the job done but nothing like this does. This mower gives a nice even cut without leaving the grass blotchy / patchy if you know what I mean. It also fills the catcher to nearly 90%, others are flat out reaching 70% before dropping clumps behind the mower. (Please note if you are going to mow… Read more
wet grass EVERY mower will clog up, have to be a little doppy to mower long wet grass anyway ay?!?!).
Only negitive to this mower is the 4 separate height adjustments, just don't know why it wouldn't have 1 lever to adjust all four would be a lot easier.
In the yard now I will only buy and use Honda items. They are all quieter (except the chainsaw attachment), less vibration and so easy to start. Little more expensive but well worth it.
I have also purchased :
1. GX25 Honda bent shaft whipper snipper,
2. HHB25 Honda blower,
3. GX25 Motor head with chain saw and Hedge clipper attachments.
Still have to buy :
1. Honda GX35 powered Atom edge cutter. (Picking one up today).
2. Whipper snipper and blower attachment for the motor head so I can get rid of the actual whipper snipper and blower but only to minimize the amount of motors to service.
Hope this helps guys and gals.
Cheers
Best decision ever – I dont normally review, actually this is my first review but what a great product. This mower is amazing from the start, its effortless single soft pull, easy start auto choke systems is so fluid its timeless.. Its 4 stroke 75db engine is so quiet the need for hearing protection is a thing of the past. (Please note this is my opinion only… Read more

There is also no playing with the idle control, it doesnt have one. The torque is so good it idles effortlessly through all grass heights without the need for an idle control and allows for the bow and stern to be adjusted independently, creating the perfect cut.
Its unique twin blade mulch function does away with the need for a bin full of grass as it dices up grass finner than a sous chief and sprinkles these fine nitrogen rich grass particles back in to the lawn.
Its also features a 21inch cutting deck which means less time in the yard compared to previous models owned, something that will save time for the avid gardener.
The only thing this mower is missing is someone to push this well built beast around and the only place I choose to shop is bunnings. The Staff are great and always happy to assist without hesitation and the Honda Rep was super helpfull in making an easy choice.
worst mower i have ever bought – this mower blocks grass in the wet the main problem is the small outlet that goes to the catcher it is now 3yrs old and the motor is stuffed stick to cars honda because you can't make mowers thats for sure i paid top dollar for this mower mainly because of there name Show details
Worst.Mower.Ever. Back to Bunnings for a refund – I'm taking this mower back to Bunnings Manly West for a refund after one mow. - it conks out constantly, there is a design flaw in this mower as the chute to the grass catcher is too narrow, causing the mower to constantly stall. Other annoyances :- The wheels. Seriously expect someone to adjust every wheel for height. The weight is… Read more
ridiculous and there seem to be no bearings in the wheels!
Did I mention it stalls constantly?
This mower is a disgrace to the Honda brand.
Honda - what are you doing??????
not a bad mower would buy again – Have had mine for r roughly 6 months and no regrets, i would use it at least every 2 weeks on either mine or my customers grass most of time i use it on mulch which was what i bought it for and it honestly is awesome to use big 21 inch cut yes it is a heavy unit but seriously if you are fit it shouldn't be an issue unless your using the catcher… Read more · 1
which when full of grass is quiet heavy just use the mulch its easier ! for those that say its underpowered i have had no issue at all, just lift the mower height if your bogging down in long grass, commonsense really . i will say for honda to sell a mower without ball bearing wheels is pathetic, it would have cost another $5 at the most to have done this properly and even the dealer who sold mine in north west Tasmania thought it had the better wheels until i pointed it out in his shop !
doesn't use much fuel at all i spent ages researching and procrastinating and so far i'm very happy for a $700 mower.
Poor choice for my replacement mower – I bought this to replace my 14 year old Honda which had sheared locating pins on the cutting disc. The height adjuster had also cracked. It was the price that drew me in to replace the mower. I suppose you get what you pay for, particularly with Honda prices. How dissapointed was I? It's rubbish compared to my old mower. Where do I begin? Well… Read more
it's extremely hard to push. The mower seems unbalanced or something. Too much weight at the back? I'm not sure.
The blade height adjustment is also a complete joke. I can't believe you need to adjust every friggin wheel height! What's even worse is you either get to low - where it will stall the mower trying to spin the blades into ground; or too high on every other setting! No in between.
Power is a complete joke. I expected to have the same sort of power as my old Honda. It's gutless and obviously not matched well with the 21 inch cutting size. It bogs down very easily. If you want to mulch, you will need to push slower than what the mower lets you anyway.
The clip director is a nice idea, but it constantly gets clogged with grass clippings and mulch. The swing door constantly gets stuck half open due to the mulch not really going where it needs to. For some reason the bag doesn't work too well. It doesnt seem to have enough air flow to let the clippings into it.
Starting the mower works well - thank god. Not a complete joke of a mower, but the pull cord doesn't seem to want to retract back in properly. You stand there wriggling it the last 12 inches to make it want to retract the entire length.
The biggest pain in the arse thing about the mower though and this is the reason that I am writing this review is the replacement cost of the microcut twin blade system. I would not expect that I have to pay almost a quarter the price of the mower just to replace the blades!!!! I'm so over Honda after this experience and will go to another brand next time. Which I think will be sooner than later.
Honda! - it's ok to charge exorbitant prices on good quality stuff that lasts. But please don't build cheap junk at a price that gets me the top of the range in most other mower brands.

Complete Rubish – Poor design Twin blades don't pick up grass just chop it very finely and spead it around and blocks narrow rear chute cloggs Catcher bag no air flow catcher will not fill up Very very heavy No throttle bogs down cuts out in thick grass No Customer Service from Honda They claim grass wet or too long This mower is not fit for perpose DO NOT BUY HONDA Anything but a honda overpriced rubbish Show details
Not fit for purpose – We all put in for this as a 70th birthday present for my dad as the old Honda had died. Got a call soon after from my mum saying that dad could not finish the lawn because he could not push it. I assumed that dad was just getting old. Went around to finish the job and discovered that the mower was difficult to push as it was too heavy. There is no… Read more
way that you can use a catcher it's simply to heavy. What's the use of making something that will last 25 years if you cannot push it!. The individual wheel adjustment also makes mowing a pain and even changing the blades requires a torque wrench. It's just not fit for purpose.
Wow!! What a tank with no balls! – I have 3 mowers 1 of them is a honda h196 d the other a victa v160 2 stroke and now hrr216pku. I just recently sold my old school mint condition h 196d in order to get hrr216 and what can I say? Biggest mistake ever!!! My 196d had twice the grunt and my victa puts them all to shame! For a late model honda it's fair priced and you definitely get… Read more
what you pay for nothing!!! It's a tank to push! No wheel bearings and no throttle switch! And final the height adjustment, every stage of height varies in one inch stages!! Piece of junk! And waste of money!! You can keep it honda! Id rather stick to my victa!!!
Hard to push – Just got a Honda HRR216PKU mower. Starts easily. Cuts OK. Very heavy to push. Turns mowing into a heavy workout. Would changing the front wheels to ball bearing wheels help? Are replacement ball Bearing Wheels available? Would better wheels on the front make it easy to push? Advice gratefully accepted.

Not bad but could be better – Only had it a few months and so far am impressed with the ease of starting. The motor is powerful enough if you dont let the grass grow really long. The oil change technique is so simple and so easy. However the mower is very heavy and difficult to push. I'm in my early 50's but 6'2" and 100Kg so not a small bloke but this really gives me a work… Read more · 1
out so I decided to check the lubrication of the wheels as they did not seem to rotate absolutely freely. Whilst the wheel shafts were greased I was very surprised to see that the wheels are not fitted with ball bearings. C'mon Honda what were you thinking! Even cheap old Victa's have ball bearing wheels. Maybe a con to purchase the self propelled versions? I'll see if I can retrofit ball bearing wheels.
Good but not great for the money – After my 25 year old Briggs and Stratton powered Masport finally died I looked for a quality replacement. After many days of online research and visitng stores to look for myself I ended up purchasing the Honda HRR216PKU. After owning this for a few months now there's much to both love and hate. First the good. It starts first pull every… Read more
time. The dual blade system gives a perfect cut and the mulch system works with even the heaviest leaf load on the ground. Handle height is 2 stage adjustable and long enough to provide good control. Oil service is simple and the wide fuel opening means less spills and the engine volume is better than most.
The bad. Its heavy, I'm not a small guy and after a while you know your not pushing a lite-weight. At the time of purchase I didn't realise there wasn't an actual throttle. This series is equipped with a single pull to start lever which controls the start circuit, blade stop safety system and throttle. While this isn't a huge factor, in heavy grass it struggles with no way of increasing rpm. The fiddly 4 corner height adjustment lacks the usual Honda engineered touch. The fabric catcher struggles with dust and needs constant cleaning or it acts as an airlock. Lastly it seems a little heavy on fuel. I'm not unhappy but for $700 its not the polished performance I was looking for.
