I am interested in purchasing a 2 or 3 yr old st1300 & wondering if you have to be well off financially to own one especially when it comes to valve adjustments by Honda. Can someone please help?

Ralston. I've had my Honda for almost 2 years and valves haven't needed any attention. It's only had fluid and filter changes. Honda mechanic could advise on prices.

Roiston. My 2 part answer 1; A Honda fan & multiple model owner owner since 1965, I did my dough on a 'brand new' 2010 ST 1300 Bought in 2010 for a heavily discounted $19,000, and dumped privately for $13,000 with only 8000kms on the clock a year later. (Still, more than any dealer would me pay me ) My advice; Check the date of manufacture. I doubt you'll find a 2 year old ST 1300 today. Last Model made was I think, 2010. 2012 registered maybe but not 2012 made. ST s' were 'Run-out' by Honda and discounted to its' dealers for just $10,000 in 2013, to get rid of the last of them out of the Honda Australia warehouse. They seem to be trading privately again ( or at least asking ) prices, of around $10,000 to $12,500. However in 2013 the last 'new' ones in dealerships were retailed for just $16,000 a $10,00 price slash in a 12 month period ! You can check the 'New Model prices in the back of some 2010 to 2013 Australian motorcycle mag's to check this fact. e.g. Road Rider etc.

Part 2. I initially thought it a good enough ride. One long road trip included a 700km day. Seat was O.K for distance, pillion happy enough too. But I found that it leaned and wandered disturbingly in a strong cross wind. Hated the monotonous sewing machine sound of its engine. However, if you must, it might be okay value if you find a spotless, low klms example with Genuine Top Box & Panniers, for say $12,000. I'd spend a little more and buy a lot more. A BMW R 1200 RT. This more prestigious bike has current styling & colors, better resale. Is a tourer with better road holding, cornering, 'more grounded' lower centre of gravity feel that handles and sounds like a big tourer should. The RT has all the features and technology Honda has, and much more. I understand the best RT model is 2012/13 the last before the water / Air cooled latest offering. But don't take my word for it Roiston, go test ride one & be impressed & better off financially in the long run. Good luck.

I was lucky enough to g e t a 2014 st1300 in white from a guy who bought it at the auction. I traced it back to the Springwood Police station in Brisbane in Nov 2018 had it just over a year now with no issues at all appart from a set of disk pads.. a couple sets of tires over 40.000km each and servicing oh I replaced the battery when I bought her. She had 82.000km when I bought her now she has over 160.000km and still runs like new.. I have put a top box on her a set of 5 inch led drive lights changed the headlight bulbs to less as did the brake bulbs and put in a 1000w stereo.. so she booms along in more ways than one. Happy with my daily ride.. I've taken her to Melbourne.. Sydney.. done the mountains the Blue ones and all around south east QLD and Northern NSW would I buy another one s#### yeah.. Why oh why did Hond stop making them..
